I know that this video is old, but my grandmother has this sewing machine and when she passed away they let me have it. I’ve had it for almost 17 years now and never knew how to so never knew how to thread it. Thank you so much for this video
I’m so glad it could help!! I make it a long time ago and I’m happy it still helps people :) my machine from this video still works!! They are pretty awesome machines!! Good luck!
I have an old Singer machine and it's built similar to yours and I was able to completely thread my machine after trying for three hours!!! I was reading the Singer's manual and watching their videos and I just couldn't smoothly and easily thread my machine. Thanks so much for your video. I wish I had found it sooner.

My mom gave me her old machine, taught me how to thread it and I forgot after not using it for a few years 😭 I appreciate this video so much!!! Thank you for helping a different generation 💖
LORDY THANK YOU SO MUCH. IM USING MY GRANNY'S SINGER. SHE PASSED IN 2001. I had NOOOO Idea what I was doing. I did print the original manual. I couldn't see the bar thread guide to save my life. ☺
I recently got a sewing machine (found it in the basement) and it's the exact same one you're using to demonstrate threading in this video! Can't tell you how helpful this is!!! Thank you!
Finally, after forever and a day trying to wind the bobbin, reading the manual, searching everywhere, rage-quitting, then picking it up again I've succeeded thanks to you. Not only that, but your machine looks almost identical to mine! I have a Brother VX1005 and I couldn't find a tutorial specific to that model. Thank you so much again!

Thank you for this demonstration. I've been blessed with one of my mother-in-laws's old sewing machines, Singer Merritt 2118. The other RUclips videos that I've come across are for much newer machines. Your explanation throughout was specific enough for me to follow along with the owner's manual.
received a sewing machine from my mother in law which she bought so many years ago and it doesnt came with the manual. im glad i came across your channel! Thank u, instructions were so clear!
Great tutorial!! I haven't sewn in years and bought a machine at goodwill to start back up but it didn't come with a manual. This was extremely helpful! Thank you!!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. I was just about to take my machine for repairs. I know I need to watch my finance. So I decided to do a search on RUclips, and I found you. Hallelujah!!! My machine is working like new
We have this exact same machine at home, and every year my daughter and I do a sewing project. And then of course we forget how to thread the machine, and refer to this video - thank you so much for making such a clear, logical and straightforward video - cheers! Yes and on our wishlist is a basic cleaning / oiling video from you - love to see it!

Thank you so much for showing both how to thread the machine and how to thread the bobbin. I was threading the bobbin wrong. I just picked this machine up and it was a little different than my other. Thanks for taking the time to do this video to help us. Thank You !
I'm a guy and I found an old Singer sewing machine on the side of the road, too good for landfill so I took it home. It was like new but I gave it a good oil and clean anyway. Great to be able to sew up ripped clothing etc and save money at the same time. Perhaps my life has reached a new level of boring but sewing stuff seems kinda fun!
I just got a new sewing machine. My old Singer is from 1976, so things are different! The instruction manual is almost useless. So, THANK YOU!!!! Now I have a bobbin threaded! Yay! (I took the horizontal and vertical to mean the thread placement, not the spool.)
BY FAR the best tutorial I've seen! I'm a complete sewing newbie that is going to take my mom's old JCPenney 7057 for a spin! You actually made this make sense! Thanks!
Thank you so much for this video. My older neighbor gave me an old singer that she hardly used and I have been wanting to learn how to sew. So glad I found your video, just sad you don't have more =) God Bless you very much.
Great! I own a Capri 20 sewing machine and didn't found anything helpful. Now with your video/tutorial i successfully threaded my machine! Thanks a lot!
Oh my god feeling nostalgic here . Its the same kind of machine I learnt sewing on, for the first time . Summer vacation at grandma's . Never touched another machine again , now is the time to start doing what i loved so much as a girl. What a coincidence 1st video i play has the similar kind i used about 20 years ago. Good tutorial.

Great video. A lifesaver. I was able to get that sewing machine running properly before my wife got home. Would have been ugly if she found out I had wrecked the machine.

This was a great video. U were the first video that popes up under me search and it was perfect. You taught a 15 year old (me) how to set up a sowing machine and I figured out the other half, Hahaha. Thank you so much.
I know I am wayyyyy behind on this (just a tad under 7 years!) but I wanted to say thank you for this video. It is very well explained and well thought out. The fact that you put it so eloquently, and in such a way to make those you are "teaching" feel like you aren't being condescending is just perfect. So thank you so very much. I have had my machine for a long time but never used it because I was clueless about how to do this, and the instructions are horrible. Thank you, now I can start a project I am really exited about :-)
I was given a machine to increase the materials I can play with recently and finally sat down to figure it out. The manual was a touch vague and not super clear... partly because I read it with male eyes instead of reading it. Thank you so much.. I messed up the tension part so everything looked good until I pressed the pedal could not figured out why it was so messed up while testing. This is the first thing to come up when I searched for help. So again thank you for making this video. :)
Thanks, that was helpful. I just inherited a Singer Melody 40, it looks very similar. I have the instruction manual, but it was far easier setting the machine up by following the video. After watching, I sewed my very first project, attaching quick release buckle fastenings to webbing straps, to tie a saddlebag to a motorcycle seat.
Thank you so much for this video! I'm making Christmas presents for my siblings and had no idea how to use the machine. I'm surprised that some good stitching came through before this video because I had it threaded entirely incorrectly! Haha
That's awesome. I have exactly the same machine and was struggling since all videos are with modern machines that already have arrows showing you the way and it was not as simple for me (self-taught beginner). Thanks a lot
Hola 👋 Alguien me puede ayudar no sé nada de inglés alguien que me pueda explicar en español no sé cómo usarla y quiero aprender ? Alguien que me ayude por favor
Oh, and to add on, you have to make sure the bobbin is facing the right direction when you thread the lower thread or it won't thread properly. The thread should be going counter clockwise when you put the bobbin in the holder and it should be relatively easy to slide it into the slot.
I just bought a 1950's trident sewing machine and have no idea what i'm doing but for 20 bucks its cheap to learn on, just buy a cheap one william and that way when your a pro you can get a good one. video's like this help loads, and yes, ignore the potty mouths. thanks for posting

thank you! I watched a video by someone else who demonstrated how to thread a DC3050-- worst video ever. She didn't go into details. I found your video and was finally able to thread my new machine. You rock! Thank you!
@@DrMaryJoArtEd please don't remove it, even if you update it!! I impulsively bought a Singer HD105 several years ago--didn't use it. Friend borrowed & lost the manual. I'll also add to the person below - thank you - you are a really blessing. Even if we don't make out own clothes, the sewing machine will save money and time in repairing an article of clothing or making our own drapes, etc.
Good job. I noticed a few points to clarify, including, perhaps the model# of the machine. At 0:58, she puts the spool holder on correctly, so it does not matter which way the spool is mounted on the rod. The spool is not intended to spin, so it can be held firmly by the holder. (Only with heavy mono-filament, it might matter which way you mount the spool, in that as the thread leaves the spool, a single twist is imposed, which might aid or detract from the twist imposed by the spinning mechanism under the stitch plate. This issue also applies (again, rarely) when filling a bobbin.) At 1:18, she refers to it as a spindle rather than a rod, implying that the spool should spin, but there is no such need, or the holder would have a thread guide rather than a smooth edge. If the holder were properly positioned against the end of the spool, the thread would never touch the thread retention notches. Correct positioning of the holder, negates all she says from 1:20-1:57. The thread got stuck because she positioned the holder as she incorrectly demonstrates. At 2:21, she should show us that she pushed on the hub of the handwheel, so it pops out of line with the wheel, to disengage the needle drive train, leaving only the bobbin shaft to spin. At 2:48, If you turn the bobbin so the tip of the thread goes out thru the bottom of the bobbin, and rests gently across the top of the shaft, when you press the bobbin down onto the shaft, it is automatically held for you until the bobbin is full and you can trim off the tip that is sticking out, to avoid leaving bits of thread in the delicate bobbin holder under the stitch plate. 3:31, You will get more thread on the bobbin if you can touch the underside of the thread on its way from the capstan guide to the filling bobbin to guide a more even filling of the bobbin. otherwise, the lower side of the bobbin fills first, tripping the shut-off mechanism, and with slippery threads (silk or rayon) it will sometimes slump up, leaving loose loop strands which can tangle during sewing, and cause irregular bottom stitches or even snags. At 3:50, she orients the holder correctly again. At 4:48, she pushes the hand wheel hub (which we cannot see) so it is again aligned, to engage the sewing drive train. Notice that she (without comment) turns the handwheel so the draw arm is about at the top of its range of motion, and the needle is up where you can see the eye and thread it. At 5:12, she mentions and illustrates using two guides that my machine does not have. At 5:29, we lose image just before she pulls the threaded end toward the far side of the machine. It is best if the loose thread goes under the presser foot and away from the intended sewing line so the loose end is not caught in the stitching. At 6:27, she does not show inserting the bobbin into the casing, but when she pulls the thread, the bobbin turns clockwise. I suspect the bobbin case thread control guide mechanism was designed to go counter-clockwise for smoother bobbin thread tension control. Your manual might be specific about yours. At 6:44, she says "turn the wheel toward you", meaning the top of the wheel toward you. At 7:03, both the needle thread and the bobbin thread should go away from you, between the presser foot and the stitching plate (below the foot and above the plate).

all the best!!
I'll also add to the person below - thank you - you are a really blessing. Even if we don't make out own clothes, the sewing machine will save money and time in repairing an article of clothing or making our own drapes, etc.
Dan R. Graham thank you so very much!! Being able to repair your clothing is definitely important and empowering!!
@@maryjorosania-harvie6490 Actually, we have three sewing machines. All Singer, of course. One is a slant needle.
best threading video I've seen so far! Thank you!!
Just bought a singer Merritt 5405 and mine is a bit different but this video definitely helped a lot!
This issue also applies (again, rarely) when filling a bobbin.)
At 1:18, she refers to it as a spindle rather than a rod, implying that the spool should spin, but there is no such need, or the holder would have a thread guide rather than a smooth edge.
Thank you! Been a long time and appreciate the tips. Nice camera work, too.
hey, thanks!! :)
