Marie Calendar's is, by far, my favorite. The crust is perfection. I sometimes add corn and/or peas just to get more veggies. I never line the crust. 400 degrees and 50 minutes is perfect every time. So easy.
I recently bought Banquet pot pies and after preparing my turkey pie in the air fryer I couldn’t wait to dig in! Opened it and my turkey was gray. I unwillingly took a bite and it tasted like rubber. I spat it out and turned the box over to read the ingredients and they are now using “mechanically separated turkey” so I googled that and after reading I tossed the pie in the trash and tossed the others that were in my freezer. I don’t know if they’ve always used mechanically separated turkey or if this is something new but it didn’t taste anything how I remembered it tasting. I now buy the Marie Calendars. Banquet’s chicken pot pies use chicken roll, all the others use real chicken breast. I think it’s worth the higher price to have a better tasting pot pie 😊
i'm an old, old guy that really misses the Swanson's pot pies that i grew up with and were my go to pot pie until they were discontinued several years ago . . . . . . . .
Love Marie Calendar's pot pies. However, since you compared the Banquet to the Marie's and it is less expensive and less calories that's the win for me.
Marie calendar is 100 times better than the other. Marie's has veggies and better chicken. I get Marie's at Costco every winter. So I have them on hand went we don't want to cook. Just just pop them in the oven. They are very satisfying. Banquet you need to eat 2 or 3 to get filled up and satisfied.
I think you're spot on you can two and maybe three of the banquet over Marie Calendars but Aldis is way to dry for me. My favorite is the banquet beef pot pie and I think the turkey is richer than the chicken and I like it better 😋
We ate these for lunch in the late 1950’s when I was in grade school. We lived < a block from the school. We also ate Swanson tv dinners on metal trays while watching tv. Sadly, they’re no longer around. Turkey was my absolute favorite. Fried chicken too. What a treat!!! As an aside, I’m curious: have you ever heard of something called “decluttering”?
@ Tell me about it. My place gets to where everything is comfortably at hand, then relatives like my sister show up and tsk tsk because it doesn’t look like she thinks it should were it for sale.
@ I’d like your opinion of canned baked beans, which are tasty, nutritious and cheap! B&M used to be #1. They came in a gooey molasses sauce and were sold in glass jars. I didn’t care for them. Then I focused on Campbell’s pork and beans, which I treated as an ingredient and doctored with all sorts of additions. They are good in that way. A blank canvas. Problem was, no matter what, they made me fart. By then, Bush’s was on the rise. I like theirs! I usually only add a little Kraft Original bbq sauce to bring them up to my standards. Best of all, I don’t fart after eating a bowlful. Based on shelf space in WM they seem to dominate the baked bean marketplace.
I grew up on baked beans made from scratch. As an adult, I made them once and they didn’t match my Mom’s. So I never made them again! I only eat them about once a year and when I do, it’s Bush’s.
@@JohnEatsCheap Well, good for you! I have that same problem replicating my Mom’s recipes. They don’t taste the same as when she plunked down a plateful in front of me. I should have mentioned that B&M, which may still be a New England baked bean favorite, has always promoted its brand as Boston style, true to cherished bean town traditions.
This was fun. I think that we get used to a certain brand, and that is what we think of when we think of the dish. More expansive doesn't always mean better.
Haven't tried the Aldi's, so I can't have an opinion on that one. I grew up on Banquet too, and have a special place in my heart for them. Remember Morton's pot pies? I ate them growing up, but hesitantly, because they only had a top crust. They were 3 for a $1.00 back in the 70's. I love Marie Callender's pot pies, probably have been eating them for over 10-15 years. I love the Boston Market pot pies too. They are all chunky white meat. I kind of switch back and forth between them and the Marie Callender's, but if given the choice I'd have to say the Boston Market ones are my favorite.
I'm familiar with all of these but what I found surprising was how much gravy was showing in your M.C. I cook those in a microwave and I find that there is not even gravy for how much crust there is. Like you, I like to turn them upside down too. When I do that and mush up the M.C. it seems like there is way too much crust for how much gravy there is. But when you just poke it from the top and look, it looks like there is plenty. Maybe there is more crust on the bottom and the sides of the pie. This was a silly video but I enjoyed it. Ha.
I love chicken pot pies, and use to eat those pies but, I have found Blake’s pot pie to be the best. I found them at Safeway, target, almost everywhere and the top crust is buttery, flakey 🔥, I pop it off easily and crust up both sides 💚 I hope you can try it some time, best frozen food comfort food 🍗
I had to laugh to see you doing this taste test on the pot pies. My husband...a pot pie fanatic... just tried the Aldi pot pie for the first time this last week and he loved it! He never liked the Marie Callendar ones. But his absolute favorite which is really hard to find these days...but still out there....was Swansons! We would get those on sale for about a dollar too and always bought a ton of them when theyd go on sale. Now that is not taking calories, carbs, pkg weight or anything else into consideration...taste only. I honestly think you would like Swansons the best John....try to find one to try!
@@JohnEatsCheap I haven't either. I remember them though. I remember that Swansons used to cost more than the Banquet ones, and since my brother and I were the only ones that ate pot pies, my mother chose Banquet. (I remember when Banquet had tuna pot pies! I actually enjoyed those! LOL)
I think every guy has had a fair amount of Banquet and they are really good for what they are. I have to try the Bremer ones as I have never had one. I have never had MC either.
My Kroger currently has Banquet pot pies for $1.00 and Marie Callendar is $3.50 (on sale). You can buy three Banquets and still be cheaper than the Marie's and you'd have 21oz of food vs 10oz.
I don't care what they call them, they are NOT pot pies. Pot pie is made in a pot without a bottom crust. They have some kind of topping such as a pie crust or dumplings. These are just meat pies
@@davidgale4604 Those in which a meat filling is encrusted in pastry are called hand pies, right? If they contain tomato sauce, cheese and maybe pepperoni, they’re calzone I believe.
I've had them all but Marie's is hands down the best. I adore pot pies.
They are great!

Agree. I loved their TV dinners! We ate them and pot pies in the 50’s and 60’s.
MC for me, and I eat 'em your way.

Swanson was always my favorite, too. Haven’t seen one in years!
My favorite is Boston market pot pie then Marie Callender. Those small ones are just too small for me.😊
Fun video! Skol from northern Minnesota

Marie Calendar’s and Boston Market make the best pot pies.

Swanson in the foil trays were great! And I’m a little OCD, and decluttering is a very difficult task…😞

Marie calendar is definitely worth the price, the other two are disgusting.
Love pot pie....I'm was a Swanson girl😊
There's no way those Banquet and Aldi's have the meat/protein that Marie C has! I like MC.

I can get you some Marie Callender's for a quarter each.
