I went all in and bought the connect for the Ninja V, the shogun connect and even the Zato Connect. It all ended up being a great idea, but not that great in terms of implementation.
So i bought the connect against my better judgement and they seem to have made some adjustmenrs to allow people to use them as single feed streaming boxes. Currently ive got one running for a funeral. Im runnjng audio into a tascam dr70 (which is recording backup.audio, and out to the ninja which is recording a stream of the feed itself. So.far.this system has been trouble free. Time will.tell, but its a small form factor, easily deployable unit Hope more things like this become commonplace.😊
No. I've tried the H4 essential, F3, and F6; none of them will connect... to the connect. You need either a one or blue, or (deprecated and impossible to find) sync. You're also limited to 2 bluetooth connections with the connect (maybe to force you to buy a blue?) although I believe that is 2 connections per connect, so if you are syncing say 3 ninjas with RF you should (I believe) have 2 BT connections per connect. The problem is basically nothing works with the connect over bluetooth. Nikon Z6iii/8/9, and a few other camera bodies, but why would you connect the camera when the camera is already connected to the recorder? The, essentially, complete lack of BT support for the connect with audio recorders renders the system very nearly useless. You need a blue as a duplicate for every connect; so why use the connect at all? Atomos has been dropping the ball on a lot of things, lately, but the connect has very few uses.
Thanks for this video, all the info I needed. I have a question about timecode if you don’t mind. Can you load timecode from a tentacle sync via cable? And if you use an ultra sync blue can you jam the unit from the connect module?
Had/have the same problem with my V+ Pro Kit - have contacted support over and over again about it. My main bugbears with the Connect: - They removed the backup battery that the Sync module had, so you can't hot swap batteries. I've worked around the lack of SDI output by pairing it with a Z-Cam HDMI-SDI NP-F dummy battery. - They called it the Connect which is the same as two set of previous products, the Connect capture card, and the Connect Convert line of converters. Why would you do this? - They really missed a trick by not supporting PoE. I've got a set of BirdDog Backpack NDI converters which have their own issues, but will power themselves and an attached monitor via PoE.
The lack of the backup battery i forgot to include in the video, indeed. That was a real bummer. At least bluetooth is back. PoE could have been handy, but the gear centers around V-mount voltages, so I can see, why they didn't. Then again, Panasonic did it in the BGH-1 and BS1H, so there is no excuse for Atomos really. As for the Z-Cam HDMI-SDI NP-F dummy: that sounds like a great piece of kit. Z-cam is really killing it with their gear. I have their EVF and absolutely love, what they're doing.
Oh. And on the V+ Pro kit support page issue: basically tell them, your V+ is list as Pro kit and they need to convert it into a Ninja V+, so that you can access firmwares again and buy additional software modules.
I'll mention one more HUGE issue I have with NDI on the Connect, and that is NDI transmission of ALL of the audio channels, this is a production tool, not a streaming tool and we need ALL audio streams individually sent from the camera (in my case four from HDMI and an additional two from the 3.5mm Atomos input), plus we also need separate LUT output control.
You saved me some money as I've got 5 or 6 Andycine 1TB drives and they wouldn't have worked with the connect. I'm not going to buy more drives as well as a connect, as I only wanted it for timecode.
If you just want timecode, then the old Sync module is the better choice. Also because you get the backup battery, that lets you hotswap batteries on the Ninja.
@@EmeraldAudiovisual good luck trying to find the old sync module. However I had a thought, with the Andycine if you use the spare screws from the Samsung sad instead of the silver andycine, they might mount flush thus enabling them to be used?
@@BusinessProgrammer I haven't tried that. I do have a few T5 and AndyCine lunchbox cases, that I haven't unpacked yet, so I might try that at some point. As for the old AtomX Sync module: that's a doozy. I didn't realise they discontinued that one. The AtomX SDI module still is being sold. Lucky for me, I do have 2 of the old timecode modules. Not parting with them though.
@@BusinessProgrammer 5mm flathead m3 screws work fine. The lunchbox is very difficult to access, so you need a hook or something to pull it out, but it will work if the flatheads are completely flush (I have personally tested with a ninja ultra and am going to test today with a ninja v+; if I don't update this comment, it works fine on both.)
Atomos could be a livestream powerhouse but they are all over the place with their hardware and software...bought the xcast and there lack of options...if they had iso recording for example...people would love it, it doesn't even have chroma key..
Absolutely. But not only BMD, but also Yololiv and Magewell have now outdone them on that. YoloLiv's newest encoder, the YoloBox Ultra now sports ISO recording.
Hi. Thanks for doing this video. The very reason I'm looking into the Atomos Connect product was so I could use the RTMP cast to do 1080p30 to Facebook Live. When you say this feature is useless and you do not recommend this product for this use, are you saying this feature simply will not work, or only the fact you cannot set any custom bitrates ? Has there been any improvements to this functionality with further fimware updates ? I have the latest firmware update on my Ninja V, which includes the new OS now.
Hi so i have the atomos connect and still seeing the bluetooth issue - im on version 11.04.02 Atomos but still seeing this issue. Is there a different way to update the firmware of the connect itself?
Would it be possible to use the Connect module for the ninja v to stream the cameras footage to other devices like phones and tablets on set? Basically to use the connect as a wireless video transmitter on set like the hollyland mars m1 for example? When I‘m shooting and clients want to see the camerafeed on set, a few meters away…is that an option?
With the NDI option, you can send the feed to any device, that can view a NDI feed. That's one of the things, I use it for. On iOS or iPadOS, I use the app "Stream Monitor for NDI HX" to receive said feed. The Connect module and the iPhone or iPad just have to be on the same network.
Thank you for this review. Very helpful. Can the Andycine lunch box version II be used with the connect? I'd have to come up with a solution for the ones I have if not. Thanks again.
I found that if the M3 screws are removed, it'll fit. I'm currently looking for m3 screws that are much thinner. Just that the screw heads are so thick.
@@BootStrapTurnerVideography 5mm M3 flathead screws will work fine. You need a hook or some kind of tool to remove the enclosure once the connect is installed, however, as you will not be able to get it out unless you have very tiny fingers, or you remove the connect.
I just bought it only for it's livestream capabilities... Have you notice audio drift? When i livestream the audio is 8 frames ahead! If i record everything is fine! I've tried connecting an external microphone in the mic port of the atomos to set a delay but there is a problem too! It does record external mic on the ssd but in the livestream only audio coming from the hdmi goes out! Totally frustrating! Is there anyone that can confirm that problem?

I wanted to ask you what device you are using it with (Atomos Ninja V?) do you still have AtomOS 10 on it or have you upgraded to AtomOS 11? I also wanted to buy the Connect, but if this bug is still there after the OS upgrade, it seems pretty useless to me... Atomos looks like, they dont care about users feedback... 😞
Atomos did this wrong in so many ways. :( Atomos experimenting with how to lock down and lock in customers will have a negative impact on customers trust in the brand. Looking into investing in 3 connects for the air glue and ndi, but having seconds thoughts about Atomos as a company in the long run - maby I'd rather put that investment into an alternative way to do this from a brand like Blackmagic.
NDI unfortunately is not supported on BMD, but overall, if your camera supports BMD recorders, the BMD Video Assist 7" 12G is far superior than the Ninjas. The Video Assist 5" 12G unfortunately doesn't have audio-in, so you can't timecode jam it that way. Timecode has to come from the camera via HDMI.
Using Hyperdecks and Ninjas today so we are invested in both. With the price drop of the connect the last days the investment is less of a pain so we are looking into it now. I think your reasoning around the unit was correct, and for the price it is well worth it for the NDI + AirGlu @@EmeraldAudiovisual
Did you even watch your video before posting it? The constant movement on that screen was ANNOYING to the max. How could you ever dream that was important or beneficial to the story and needed to run a full 15 minutes? Don't ever do that again!
You mean the Atomos promo video on the TV in the background ? Yes, I watch my videos end to end, before uploading. I don't find that annoying, but it had other disadvantages for editing. That's how it goes: you try new things ... some work .. some don't.
