I bought a second hand copy of this book recommended to me by my psychologist called Dirven to Distraction, and in it there is a line stating: "- they can also be unusually empathetic, intuitive, and compassionate, as if in that tangled brain circuitry there is a special capacity to see into people and situations". The reason I mentioned it was bought second hand was because the previous owner has made notes on some of the pages and that particular passage is underlined with the word 'hope' written next to it!

I definitely feel that having Dyslexia and ADHD has aided me in becoming a digital artist through the power of my super hyper focus, sometimes it is a struggle but soon as the motivation and inspiration is there then there's no boundaries as to where my imagination can take me through art...
So I feel blessed most of the time.

Oh the contrary. I feel more creative and inventive AFTER getting treatment for ADHD and Major Depressive Disorder. I made a birthday card out of old calendars for my sister. It was well executed, enjoyable, spontaneous, opened up my problem solving abilities, didn’t take me as long to complete as I thought diving into the project. I definitely wouldn’t be as creative or enthusiastic if my ADHD wasn’t treated.

That’s awesome! As long as you can access the creativity, suppose it doesn’t matter how you get there!

Was super scarred that that part of myself would be gone with the wind, when it was the opposite for me, that creative side actually came out into something tangible and not stuck in my dream world. I’m still a talker but I feel more engaged and find the person I’m speaking to is just as enthusiastic! I feel better about the condition now knowing there’s help. It makes me want to cry.

I think recognising the positives is a massive thing when on the journey after diagnosis. It literally makes everything make sense. Add my on Instagram if you like Ollie benukb

For sure Ben, it allows you to start problem solving instead of just being overwhelmed

Got my diagnosis yesterday at age 31 and will be starting treatment in 4 weeks. Did you find that you are generally a more positive person now? Constantly gravitating towards the negative and catastrophising has made finding the positives really difficult in life. Feeling optimistic that these dark clouds will lift for the first time!
As for advantages, I’ve always been very creative and innovative. I’d consider that a superpower as it has resulted in some great successes at work when finding new ways to do things and solve problems. Pretty sure it’s the only reason I’m still around as I rarely do the job I’m actually supposed to.

That’s awesome that you have your diagnosis now, congrats! For sure I’ve become more positive person in general since starting the medication - don’t get me wrong - I am still the same me, I still have difficult days and struggle as much as I used to when I get into a downward spiral but overall I am much, much better!

@@ollieedward643 thanks bud. Still on the waiting list to start my titration. Should be about 3 weeks now until I start.
I made it clear to my psychiatrist that I want to start with Elvanse and he seemed pretty accommodating. My GP is not keen on Shared Care at all so I’ll just have to deal with the cost for a while. Ironically my GP referral for psychiatric assessment 3 years ago was rejected so you can see how ‘supportive’ they are!

@@craigmitchinson let me know how you’re getting on once you start - and if at any point you need someone to talk to about it please don’t hesitate to reach out! If you’re struggling, I’ll send you over my email closer to the time and can hopefully help you through it.
Fingers crossed once you have settled on a dose your gp will consider a shared care agreement because the costs are quite excessive!

@@ollieedward643 cheers. Just paid for my titration so it looks like I’ll be starting next week once my script arrives. A bit nervous about the side effects, especially heart palpitations and increased anxiety but will try to push through.

@@craigmitchinson something that helped me is writing down all of my symptoms (and rate the severity 1-10) every day - it gave me some perspective on if I’m getting better/worse or staying the same
