I’m not diagnosed yet but some times such a simple task when someone tells me to do is hard but I swear when I was a teen in school I never had this issue but it’s gradually gotten worse
Lateness I believe comes into our lack of having the sense of urgency. The instant reward thing is huge when looking at my future and where loves going. Gets really overwhelming I have to shit thinking about off, which then means I procrastinate and end up not doing anything about it
Time blindness is a killer for me, mixing up dates and times, miscalculating travel times or just hyper focusing on something for too long. Interacting with colleagues or clients when I suddenly can't recall the words for things I should know, or just forgetting to do things that are a daily part of the job I've done for years. Embarrassing.
I worked healthcare... Trauma ERs and ORs and then later more mellow, elective surgery ORs... NOT a job for someone ADHDAF! :) I had to do several workarounds so I wouldn't make mistakes or forget something and got a reputation for being rigidly quirky. I've since cashed out my pension on early retirement and switched careers... total lifesaver!
With going to work I've found that if do the following it works: Genuinely aim to leave to get to work 30 minutes early to do something, e.g. sort out your email inbox, organise your desk, get ahead on a project, clear some "to-do's" etc. Maybe once a month you will actually arrive the full 30 minutes early. Most of the time you will arrive 15 minutes early. On your worst days you will turn up 5 minutes before work. On days where there's road works or an accident, which would make even a neurotypical person late then you'll obviously be late, but it would not be due to your ADHD. That adrenaline kick you get when you realise you missed your ideal leave time to arrive at work 30 minutes early is what makes you leave later than you wanted, but earlier than you actually need to in order to be on time for the start of your working day. I feel that informing your employer and being given permission to be late it's not a good idea because the accountability and desire to appear conscientiousness are a powerful tool in motivating an ADHD person. If you wanted to inform them that you have ADHD but that you don't want to be treated any differently from anyone else in terms of being accountable for your timekeeping, conscientiousness then that would be a different thing. You're not helping yourself by asking for sub-par performance to be acceptable, it's just feeding the ADHD procrastination monster.
You’re completely right, Lawrence, no one should get preferential treatment because of a diagnosis of ADHD. That isn’t what I was aiming for - I am encouraging people to be open and honest with their employers, but to take responsibility for their own timekeeping and punctuality. This is what’s worked for me, and it sets the standard that sometimes I’ll arrive at work frazzled and in a frantic rush - but still on time.
Hey Ollie, do you take meds constantly or are you taking breaks? I'm about to jump on meds and thinking about a plan that recudes the chances of growing tolerance. Have you tried 5 days on 2 days off or something similar? Do you fear growing a tolerance or symptoms becoming stronger after a while? Thank you! I really appreciate you and your channel.
Hey dude 👋 so I personally do take medication holidays, but they’re not set in stone. I take a 2 day break whenever my body and mind tells me they need one! Thank you 👍
Dude it sounds like your describing everything I had when I adhd, Ever sense I started taking meds I don’t do this anymore. It sounds like you’re describing this as a negative… I’m not sure if you titled this correctly
I’ve just done day three on 18mg of Concerta. I was expecting a big shift in my mind but I guess I need to be patient. I move up to 36mg after 10 days. Maybe that’ll shift my focus up a gear.
I haven’t no - I’ve just searched for it to see what it is. To me, it looks like an expensive multivitamin with a few other buzzword ingredients but I could definitely be wrong! Would love to hear if anyone’s tried it personally..
Still have temper tantrums at work even though I am on combination therapy. The latest incident I was also on a topical steroid which negatively impacted my mood and behavior. They say it’s your attitude that get you hired and it’s your attitude that gets you fired. Know all to well of this notion.
@@ollieedward643 how have the meds effected you socially I feel like I cant properly get a word out in a convo anymore like I used to if someone asks be something it take me a few seconds to register then I can barely even string a proper sentence to say
@@finity9316 I can definitely relate to what you’re saying.. Check out this video I posted the other day (ruclips.net/video/e7B_acB-Vrs/видео.html), it should give you some detail on how adhd affects me socially
Yes the forgetfulness and being late 🙄

Glad for the cat appearance 😸 and definitely agree with what you said about timekeeping

‘Rigidly quirky’ is potentially my new favourite phrase. Glad to know the switch went well 👍👍

Hi Ollie I was wondering if you have tried brainzyme focus it seems to help with adhd and can easily be bought online

ehhh! consistency👌🏻
Appreciate the love 🙏
Is this how adhd effects ur work if you aren’t on meds or if you are on meds ?
Either - but to to a lesser extent on meds (in my opinion)
