Love this. They always tell me relax my hands. I have arthritis and my hands clench up sometimes and I can't move it. Also if you have a client like me...don't yank or force the finger to a bend or straight. It hurts.
Same happens tome! its like RELAX! DAMMIT! Yea that doesn't work. I especially cant relax, when the tech is rough, aggressive, doesn't listen, doesnt understand english, cuts me with the 80 grit barrel drill to where I get infections of my cuteiculs.
The last one is SO IMPORTANT!! I've had women laugh at me because I want it straight and even, or tell me it'll look much better totally different than I want. Filing the length not three minutes after I told them exactly what I want and that the length I have is good. More often than not I found myself correcting the nails at home on my own. So I stopped going to people.
This is the reason I stopped getting my nails done. I like shorter nails, basically the same length as Susie’s nails in this video. For some reason all the salons in my area didn’t like doing shorter nails and they would always try to force me to go longer. Even if I call beforehand to make an appointment letting them know ahead of time I would still always have problems the moment I sat in the chair. I’ve been yelled at, I’ve had techs try to switch because I wouldn’t agree to a longer length, and there was one time I had to get up and leave mid appointment because the tech put the nail on and refused to clip them until I agreed to a longer length. After that I just gave up. I also want to add that I know wanting shorter nails means techs are limited with the art they can do, so I never asked for some crazy design or jewels. I would always ask for a standard solid color and maybe an accent nail at the most. And then I thought that maybe the reason I’m having so much trouble is due to the money, because my nails are so simple they rarely ever take a hour or more which I guess means less money for the tech. So I’ve even offered anywhere from a 50%-100% tip as an extra incentive. That’s when I realized I’m doing all this just for someone else to paint my nails…so I stopped going. It’s sucks because I’m awful at doing nails myself, so to avoid having my nails look like my toddler did them I just keep them bare. I’ve tried growing them out but the main reason I tried to keep my nails done is due to me biting my real nails 😭 so growing them out never works lol. I’ve gotten over it now even though it bummed me out at first. Now I just admire them in pictures and videos like this 😅
I saw another account’s short get blasted in the comments because her video was about how she “eased” her long-time client who enjoys plain solid manicures to do nail art of her (the tech’s) choosing by repeatedly suggesting it every session and then eventually begging. The tech said there was no problem with her actions since she didn’t charge the client extra for the nail art. Really didn’t understand the countless people in the comments saying that it’s not ethical or even respectful as a tech to decide or pressure her client into services they don’t want, regardless of how close they are.
@@hannahreed2451 It sucks that you have this experience because the service industry should always be about making the service more enjoyable for the customer if they want more earnings from that customer. Nothing enjoyable about being bullied. As for doing your own nails, practice makes better. For the nail art, you could try DIY stamping if you haven’t already. Just buy a starter kit that comes with everything you need (I’ve seen them from Walmart to drugstores to online subscription boutiques to Amazon) and give it a go. Other than stickers and water decals, I think stamping is the quickest, least skill-needed ways to DIY nail art.
You'd be amazed how much dust you get when filing, especially gel! I once forgot to wear a mask and didn't have a dust collector while chewing gum (doing my own nails) and the gum got so gritty so quickly!

My nail tech always wants me to do square nails and I think that’s because it’s easier for her. When doing almond nails she argues with me when I tell her the tip isn’t aligned with my finger. She spends more time trying to convince its straight rather than just filing it a little to the left or right to straighten it out. I love your video I am a brand new aspiring nail tech in her early 40’s however I have been getting my nails done since I was 16, I just did my first 3 nails ever using acrylics I asked several people for their opinions on whether or not I should continue and so far no one has answered. I was wearing a wrist brace once during a manicure when I went to a nail salon and spa because my autoimmune disease was flaring in my hands. I literally couldn’t bend my hand in the exact angle the tech wanted-every time I did, it’d end up relaxing back to a more natural, less painful position. I could tell it was annoying her from the way she kept correcting me physically and verbally. Eventually, she grabbed a UV lamp to help elevate my wrist. It helped the rotation and angle but the pressure of the plastic on my wrist was uncomfortable. Looking back with more knowledge now, I don’t know why that nail “spa” didn’t have hand rest pillows. Or maybe they did but she was too lazy to get up and fetch one. She also had gotten really snappy with me when I stopped her about to do acrylics with tips to say I had ordered gel extensions when I first came in and I thought that meant she’d be making the nail using [forms] and [hybrid or builder] gel, because she said “that takes too long” and made me feel stupid for not knowing how to interpret their menu’s service title when the reality was either that they offered that but she didn’t want to do the work or they misnamed their service. She was overall rude and when I removed the acrylic later, I found she’d also drilled too deep at my cuticle so all of my natural nails had a dip/indentation as they grew out. I decided I’d never go to a salon again unless I knew the tech was someone who was there because they loved nail art and caring for clients. But it’s hard to know just by website, Google reviews, and tech instagrams. I’m not sure what are green flags and I definitely see a pattern in my area of not all clients being treated equally. So that was the last time I went to a salon and what prompted me to start watching nail techs on RUclips and learning about different nail enhancements and gentle manicures. I really wish there were techs like you around here (or maybe there are and I just haven’t figured out a way to find them yet).

But I e yet to find someone that is 100% good enough
I love kids but not to playing with my products and break them,I really hurt a lot because their parents won't pay for the product they break. And also a late client I let them know that it is wrong.
I fully agree with the kids, that are out of control. And of course they break things. That's on the parent. Plus kids going through your salon isnt sanitary. I would allow kids in a designated kid area.Books and toys, tv, snacks. Loud screaming kids, are disruptive to other clients. Well behaved kids can be a joy. Sometimes I offer a mini kid manicure.
Actually. Asking politely to relax a hand is not bad. I've done 15 years gel nails and in fact stiff or cramped fingers are going to make my fingers also tired as I work. Ofcourse I never judge a client when they have fingers stiff bc of arthritis or bc of some other conditions. That would be rude. But the truth is clients hold their fingers stiff or cramped mostly unconsciously or bc they think it would help me.
many people do not have control over their children allow their children to be loud noisy getting into everything with no form of discipline. as a licensed manicures 31 years I don't put up with people and their children because. it's not my job. I have nothing against anybody having children but I draw boundaries don't bring others that do not know how to have discipline. I don't deal with well I didn't have anybody else that's not my responsibility. as a matter of fact I have a guideline. I do not allow a client to bring anyone under the age of 14 if they don't like it they can go other places I'm certainly not pressed.
I think if it were me I would say its fine to bring kids, but if they aren't able to sit and calmly read /play a game etc then I'd worry about them getting hurt or things getting broken. If the parent wasn't able to stop them being hectic more than twice I'd probably say arrange a sitter. Tbh if I had kids I probably wouldn't want to ( repeatedly) expose growing children to the chemicals in the air in a salon - however good the safety record ). If its once every 6 months I guess no big deal, but every 3 weeks 🤔
@@mdmegrimalkin1792 you entitled to your belief and that's okay when you are license you can set whatever rules you want in your city and state and that's.🥰👌🏼 But since it was my conversation it would be my rules. And if I say no children allowed that is legally my right. I'm so glad that I never let a person tell me what they think cuz I give less than a damn everybody do what they want when they are license and that is okay not like I really give two cents of a Dame. When you go to school and you become license as a professional you do not want to have to babysit somebody else's undisciplined children, friends, whatever. 🧐🤦🏻♀️ I would think in 2023 people should be able to get their hair done their nails did and pick a time that they can come by themselves and if not then they pick somebody that can you know put up with those things. 👀🥃💯‼️
I also agree with this. If someone has a well behaved child, they are welcome to bring them but as a general rule I don't allow it. Manicures should be relaxing for the client and, with intricate designs especially, focus is often required from the tech. I don't want *uncontrollable* children running around my home, touching and potentially breaking my belonging, ruining my clients experience. I have a personal issue with parents that allow their children to act disorderly (aka refuse to actually parent), especially if it's happening in my space. It's triggering and frankly not my damn job to deal with it. If the kid bumps me or my client mid set, I'll have to spend more time and product fixing any potential mistakes.. really the list goes on and on. If a child is well behaved then they are welcome to come, but if they're obstreperous for moms first appt they are no longer welcome
I understand if people get annoyed when a child is making a mess or poorly behaved but I got my nails done recently and my nephew was with me. He was quiet except for asking occasionally about the things in the salon. But I could tell the nail tech was annoyed. He would start going faster every time my nephew talked and he hurt me twice with the drill because of it. I don't understand why it was making him so agitated every time my nephew spoke but I didn't comment on it.
probably because he was distracted by it. Salons are not an environment for children under a certain age that are not getting services.IMO. I have had mostly well-behaved children in my spa - However it is a distraction as the mom had to keep helping him with his electronic babysitter. (ipad) also why would you assume it's ok? I would never assume its ok. as a matter of fact if you can't get that priority straight your kid...maybe your priorities should not be your nails. I am well aware that there are exceptions and situations that people get in and I have to say it really depends. If you're like Suzy and love it. we'll send those clients to you❤️❤️lol
@@pamela9662 I have been going to this salon for some time now and have seen children there before. The nail techs have never expressed an issue with it so that is why I assumed it was fine. When I've gotten my nails done, I usually have gone with my sister or my in law and we've always talked while my nails were getting done. It's never seemed like it distracted the nail tech. So I don't understand why talking to a kid is suddenly more distracting. He wasn't whining or anything. Just curious and making conversation with me.
@NiaV I cant speak to how or what you and your nephew talked about, and its certainly not cool that he hurt you, but theres a thousand reasons the tech couldve "seemed" annoyed besides you and the kid
The kid thing i solve it with some spare toys i had from when i was a kid, silent toys like plushies, construction blocks, little people, moms always seem so gratedul i offer them kiddos even some snacks while i do their nails
Uh, but the fumes are dangerous for kids. Once I seen a newborn in a crowded nail salon that was not obviously well ventilated. I felt so bad for the kid.
Actually ( I’ve looked into this) there is no evidence to support that. smell is diluted and is measured by parts per million. In a salon, assuming it’s not the size of a closet with no window there is plenty of dilution for the fume. If the product was unsafe, then it wouldn’t be allowed regardless of children or adults. It just wouldn’t be approved - but there are certain guidelines you want to follow. of product use, proper disposal, and good ventilation.
I will never accept kids at my salon. I understand it’s a pain in the butt to have a babysitter last minute but just let me know you will not be available to come to the appointment and we’ll reschedule.
I stopped going cause I have a birth mark on my hand and every time I did the tech looked at my hands like they were disgusting and then tried to scrub it away with alcohol until it was raw and sore
They probably thought it was the previous tech’s fault or they’re trying to be funny to break the ice and distract you from the scary stuff later like the efile and cuticle trimmer
Yes to most of these... however- I definitely disagree with allowing kids in a spa environment for a multitude of reasons... Not worth it!! Slows down everyone involved and there are too many risk factors. It becomes stressful when kids lose their cool and the parent cannot handle the situation.. Babies need to be fed on demand, and now you are trying to work around all of their needs & potential chaos. Nails are a luxury. Screaming, crying, whining and tantrums don't belong in this environment. Also- It's super rude to subject other clients in a salon to a lesser experience because you haven't arranged childcare. One last thought... Nail techs are trained to see & know what shapes will best suit your nailbeds/hands, and what will work for your lifestyle. We try to recommend what is both practical AND flattering. If someone wants to insist on a shape that will not be flattering- yes, we can do it- but... part of the job is educating them on what will be the most flattering for them! Like trying to convince someone that thicker is NOT stronger and better, and that duck nails are NOT cute on anyone! Collaboration is always best- but please, trust that most professional techs do have good taste and want you to love your set for the next few weeks!!!
No. Not for me. No children. I Can tell you how many times I have had kids knock things down, scream and scare other clients, grabbed some of tools and broke them, distracting the mother and actually mess up cause they jolted away to yell at their kid. So NO! NO CHILDREN UNDER 10 years old!
We are talking late enough that the tech cannot complete the scheduled service before the next client who IS on time. When a client makes an appointment it’s an agreement. Nail Techs often work on commission. With my solution you just need to return for the job to be completed but at least I can get paid for the appointment you agreed upon. I still loose time and you won’t loose an exceptional nail tech Time is money. We can’t afford to sit around cause a client is more than the typical 10-15 mins late. These are my rules in my salon that work
@Lilman Yellow some nail techs require a deposit. If you’re late, they won’t refund it. Other nail techs also charge late fees. Both are pretty good methods to discouraging lateness :)
i feel like the child one is unreasonable, you may love children but a lot of people dont and they can be very distracting and cause the nail tech to not do their best work 🤷♀️
If you're gonna do the one hand full charge thing I hope you let them know in advance that will happend. Because if not...thats just mean and vindictive...Some people have real reasons for being late and it will only create anxiety for your clients to get there in time because if not they'll get this passive agressive treatment... In time this will cause you loose clients...Is it better than not showing up at all and you won't get any money at all?
Not necessarily true about the mask, I have been doing nails for 45 years, I don't do acrylics I do gels, the only thing that is wrong with me is that I am a diabetic with it has nothing to do with the nails, besides that I have no lung problems

You are awesome! I agree, thank you❤❤
I JUST LOVE YOU! TOUR MT FAVORITE!
Luv this lady
Great tips❤
Excellent
Great Advice.
Id love to get my nails done by you at least once!
My mom cramps everytime i start filing like she is going to break my fingers and hers too one day😂
Whew those ones in the salons need a class with you my goodness they are so rude and don’t listen to what you want 😩 I do my own nails and have been a while now and they come out exactly how I want them. Takes me about 6 hours because of my ocd but I feel better once it’s completed
😂😂😂😂
I want to know how to get any type of Maile salon mail to stay on… why are they always coming off!!??
I’ve even tried doing my own nails… it just takes me so so much longer… cause I’m pickier about the smallest imperfections when I do it… vs happy someone else is doing it…
Sadly finally tried someone new… happy she didn’t t gouge into my mail bed at the cuticle line….
I wasn’t expecting you to say the kids are ok to come to apts. That’s very nice!
Kids are people too 😂🧡
You would be my favorite nail tech
I just love you ❤
I appreciate this
That’s totally your right and your prerogative.
@@monie2514 esp bc they don't control the kids, they get hurt n the mom blames you 🙄 yeah no kids here😂
I also agree with this.
@@bustedkeaton I think you're right. There's definitley outside factors I could be unaware of. Maybe it had zero to do with me or my nephew. 1
I cant agree w 4. No kids allowed.
This is great service
I don’t understand number 3, just the last part can some one explain
Thanks
I LOVE YOU!!!!!
once went somewhere and the lady kept smacking my hand. wasn’t even telling
me to relax just kept randomly hitting me like what??? didnt go back.
The kid thing i solve it with some spare toys i had from when i was a kid, silent toys like plushies, construction blocks, little people, moms always seem so gratedul i offer them kiddos even some snacks while i do their nails
Love that ❤️
Uh, but the fumes are dangerous for kids.
It just wouldn’t be approved - but there are certain guidelines you want to follow. of product use, proper disposal, and good ventilation.
no way. that dust even with dust collection gets everywhere.
Love this
❤❤❤
Cool
Nail tec would hit my finger with the nail file and tell me to relax and I would say I am relaxed 😅
Ya that’ll make anyone relax 🙄
I will never accept kids at my salon. I understand it’s a pain in the butt to have a babysitter last minute but just let me know you will not be available to come to the appointment and we’ll reschedule.
I stopped going cause I have a birth mark on my hand and every time I did the tech looked at my hands like they were disgusting and then tried to scrub it away with alcohol until it was raw and sore
Did you try telling them it was just a birthmark?
They probably thought it was the previous tech’s fault or they’re trying to be funny to break the ice and distract you from the scary stuff later like the efile and cuticle trimmer
Omg yes. I hate when they tell me to relax
👏🏻
You’re very sweet ❤
I love you 💖💋💖💋
Yes to most of these... however- I definitely disagree with allowing kids in a spa environment for a multitude of reasons...
Do you think, The Client should wear a mask also ?
Never in my right mind would I decide to take my child to get my nails done it's not their choice it's mine
You would only do one hand if they're late?? That's horrible I wouldn't even take that one hand I would just leave and look for a different nail tek
We are talking late enough that the tech cannot complete the scheduled service before the next client who IS on time. When a client makes an appointment it’s an agreement. Nail Techs often work on commission. With my solution you just need to return for the job to be completed but at least I can get paid for the appointment you agreed upon. I still loose time and you won’t loose an exceptional nail tech
Time is money. We can’t afford to sit around cause a client is more than the typical 10-15 mins late. These are my rules in my salon that work
I'd rather be turned away than get half of my nails done. Jeez
She was joking baby
Same! I def wouldn’t be back lol
@Lilman Yellow some nail techs require a deposit. If you’re late, they won’t refund it. Other nail techs also charge late fees. Both are pretty good methods to discouraging lateness :)
i feel like the child one is unreasonable, you may love children but a lot of people dont and they can be very distracting and cause the nail tech to not do their best work 🤷♀️
Like you the best
Number two don’t be a wiseaass
The first is the most important for yourself but I can't stand it.. 🫣🫣 think I have trauma true Covid.. 🤪 No-no just kidding.. 😁😁
I just love you❤
