Inspector Wexford - Kissing The Gunner's Daughter

- Thanks to Per Vangtoft I now have uploaded all the Inspector Wexford's that were on VHS only and unavailable to buy now. I will create a new playlist of all the Inspector Wexford's in chronological order. This Wexford was given to me in two halves and I have joined both parts together. I also had to sync the sound on part 2. The original copies given to me by Per were all in sync but my editing software threw the lip syncing out for some reason, it's all corrected now 🙂
You will see a subtle difference in picture quality and sound between both halves but it's still very watchable. I hope you enjoy this Inspector Wexford after the long wait.
As an American, I was completely ignorant until now about this wonderful gem. Thank you for taking the time to make these episodes available to all of us!
As an American, I’m quite ignorant.
Enough said mate !
I have never seen Wexford before and decided to give them a chance (I'm Danish and haven't had a tv for at least 12 years) and I really enjoy these stories of everyday people and not any of the violence that is so popular today. I have both Netflix and HBO and I only watch Netflix when there is a new documentary and when it's time to watch all the Star Trek episodes. HBO I hardly ever watch because these days it's all more or less the same - fantasy, violence, vampires and witches and history where they make kings and queens into superheroes more or less and has nothing to do with history. So being able to watch something like this is soothing and interesting. So, I have subscribed and thank you for all the work you have done with these VHS sharing them with all of us, it must have been a lot of work for you, and I am grateful for the work and time you have used to make others happy! Thank You!!!
@MissWitchiepoo I also have chosen not to have a tv for last 8yrs, one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! I watch Netflix & RUclips. You may also enjoy Midsomer Murders, Morse, Lewis, Poirot, Miss Marple & The Last Detective, I know you may have already watched some of these but I thought I’d recommend anyway. Hope winter isn’t too harsh in Denmark. Happy Christmastimes to you…
So, you pay for two services and don´t use them very much and you are thanking a person who uploaded "Wexford" videos that he has stolen from the original producers. Paul Goddard is a thief who makes thousands of $/€ a month. He has NOTHING to do with the production of the Wexford videos. You are thanking a crook. Good Show!
I too have not owned a TV since 2011.
I have not owned a TV since 1987
@@MyMags8 I hadn't seen your reply so it's a little late but it's funny that we both don't have a tv and are happy without and also, we both watch Netflix and RUclips. I like to watch the same things as you do especially Poirot I'm not exaggerating when I say I have seen it at least 40 times and have favorites I watch more than others and I also love Miss Marple and have the Joan Hickson ones because you can only find a few on RUclips. I haven't seen the Midsummer Murders but I'm going to. I also like to listen to all the Agatha Christie audios here because they are very different than the tv series so it's like getting double Christie:) It's summer now and very very hot and at last today it's raining. I wonder where you live? I hope you have a great summer!!
That cat definitely knows more than she's saying.
They usually do!🇺🇸
I'm with Inspector Wexford. If I had raised a daughter who was enthralled by an arrogant, rude, condescending, mean-spirited, alcoholic braggart, I'd wonder what on earth I'd done wrong.
And perhaps his wife Dora may have had something to do with it as well.
He sets a terrible example for his daughters. So does she. Pretty typical of that generation.
I have a grandson who is a sly, mean spirited liar and thief and I’m once removed / still wondering what I did wrong that my daughter would have raised such a person in relative ease with a male head of household. But in retrospect to each his reach. We can only sincerely do our best for them; the children become adults and must make their own way. Hopefully their choices don’t end them in prison or an early grave. Funny that comment about the example they set…pshaw. People wanted to give me gold stars when my children excelled but had they been imprisoned - I would certainly have been blamed! Stop that. “To each his reach, and if I don’t get it it’s not mine to get!”
I suppose a really clever father would have waited a day or so. Then, he asked his daughter, "Have I ever treated wait staff rudely or thoughtlessly?"

Yes, thanks for all your efforts. Ruth Rendall is such a great mystery writer, and it's great to see these shows online.
Of all people youd think a cop would know better than to pull a fake gun in the midst of a armed robbery.
He was the cool Sherrif.
Indeed... His police training alone should have taught him better...
It's the end of the series so they killed him
Thank you so very much. It often seems some viewers do not realize that uploading for enjoyment of others is a true gift and it takes time too give. TY.
Well said, Laura.
That's very kind of you to say Laura, thank you. 😊

Thank you so much for this one, Paul! All the others are there, and I have been looking forward so very much to watching this one. You have spent so much time and trouble uploading these for us. Greatly appreciated by all of us on here!

That's such a nice thing to read. I'm glad it made you happy 😊
I am from the West country Bristol and I too left 25 years ago to live abroad
and enjoy the accents and stories life was simpler back then.
I can't believe I've watched them all. Thanks for uploading. I've been in hospital and binge watched them all. A nice trip back to the early 1990s. I think I suspected Daisy from the start.
I'll wager when you were a child you would peek at your Christmas presents a week before Christmas Day .
Wow, what great shows! Now I want to read the books
I am so impressed by how faithful to the book this episode is. I only wish the end hadn't been rewritten, presumably to make it more "exciting." The end in the book was perfect, this one is far too sympathetic to one of the perpetrators. That said, THANKS, PAUL, for posting this!
Thank you so very very much. What a wonderful series and cast.
KISSING THE GUNNER'S DAUGHTER--at 3:04 Reg explains the old naval term to Mike. I LOVE it when Mike asks "Is there ANYTHING you don't know?"
Ahhhh thankyou. I’m watching all of these in venice Italy ,I n3ver watched television so I never saw these ,I’m enjoying inspector Wexford very much ❤❤❤it’s funny as I’m not watching in order
Really sad they wrote Sgt Martin off the series by having him killed during a bank robbery. Why couldn't they bump him off the series in a different manner, like, maybe sustaining work related injuries leading to early retirement. Thank you very much, Mr Goddard. Really lovely to see another Wexford upload. Cheers!
Thanks RoryAddict. He was one of my favourite characters even though he only has a small part.
@@paulgoddard Always made me smile for some reason,
I think he was in one episode of "All creatures great and small".
@@INDYOSKARS Was he really? The actor, Ken Kitson, is a Yorkshireman so he would fit in very well with James Herriot :-) Do you happen to remember what character he played?

that maybe I was mistaken and confusing
him with the actor that played the whispering

I had rather seen Ken in Morse or something.

You have made my parents be glued to their iPads. Bravo on the posts sir 👏👏👏👏
That's the first time I've heard of parents being glued to ipads. 😁
@@paulgoddard From the day I got my mum an iPad (6 years ago or so) she loved it. Used it every night when she couldn’t sleep. Even joined Facebook and learned how to call overseas relatives via Facebook, and use Messenger, and text. Apple products are easy for older people to use and kids should think them as a gift for their elderly relatives. Thanks to you Paul, lost my mum this week and the Wexford series is helping me through. 👏👏
@@teresatv9209 I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I can fully understand the comfort the Wexfords give you. When I lost my dad the Wexfords were being repeated and I believe for the last time on ITV3. My Mum and I would go for a walk then come home to the Wexfords in the evening. I rediscovered my enjoyment of them at that time and like you they helped with the upset. I know Ruth Rendell developed Reg with the thought "if I lost someone I loved through crime what Detective would I want in charge of the case". Reg is a workaholic and can be grumpy with those that work and live round him but there's something comforting about his presence. Be kind to yourself, take care. ❤
Charming, especially the the tag end ad for rosemary and thyme, via a British announcer. ;). And you are there, watching on channel one!
Thanks Mr. Goddard for these episodes which I enjoy a lot. GOD BLESS
How can the Wexford have such bad manners and insensitive daughter, when being so lovely themself, does not really ring true. I love this series but a bit frustrating how rude some of the people are, does not really fit this lovely show. But I still, I enjoy them. And extremely kind of the uploader on this channel. Unbelievable. The kindness and generosity, mind blowing. Thank you so much. God Bless you.
Thank you Ingegerd. It's nice to see you really appreciate my time in uploading these. It makes it all worth it when I get kind comments like this. 😊

Thanks again Paul... I never knew how brilliant Ruth Rendell was as an authoress...
Rendell's plots are indeed brilliant and her characters unforgettable, but she writes the most appallingly bad English.
@@mfjdv2020 Does she? Thanks for reply... I am just absolutely enjoying the Inspector Wexford stores... and all the program provides.. Of course credit due to all the people involved in making those..

Oh, no! Not Sgt. Martin!!! One of my favourite characters ... great wit & sense of humour throughout the series.
He was one of my favourite too. It comes as a shock right at the very beginning.
Yes, they obviously wrote this script because either the actor ('Martin') or the director decided to part with him from the series.
@@NorceCodine No, I think it must have been Ruth Rendell herself who decided to 'kill him off'. The only Wexford book I've read is Harm Done, the last in the series. Detective Sergeant Barry Vine (who starts his role in this episode) is in that book, but no Sgt. Martin.
My sentiments exactly. Sgt. Martin was my favorite character of all, actually.
Thank you so much!
Thank you Julia 🙂
Thank you for uploading these videos, Paul, they're truly masterful. There is great chemistry among the cast.

I always dislike having members of the team killed. They’re old friends. I particularly liked Sgt Martin
No funeral or what became of his son either.

This 1 was a long video Paul. I enjoyed it very much & extra thanks for editing it into 1 video.
Was so odd to see Sean Pertwee in such a minor role. I found the actress who played "Daisy" to be quite fetching & she reminded me of an ex-gf I had in 1988 named Mallory. As always, much love from Mark in Ohio :-)

So enjoyable. Thank you.

No woman of sensibility and with a working brain could be in love with an obnoxious prat like Gus. If ever anyone needed a pie in the face . . . . I don't know if the screen adaptation of his character is faithful to Rendell's, but if it is, she's erred in creating an unbelievable character. As a "popular" writer, she's making fun of pretentious "literary" writers, but someone writing like Gus apparently writes would never be nominated for a Booker. He's ridiculous, a stereotype on steroids.
😂 Loved your comment, he’s horrid. But i think we can all relate to an obnoxious dinner guest. Haven’t seen one for some time but brought back memories of a work function, that wedding, and someone who brought a new unexpected partner.
@@Matilda-yI love that dinner scene with Gus. Hilarious! Fawlty Towers on acid!! It's great satire.

English mysteries are much more complex, more interesting than Hollywood ones. It may be a good think the actors and writers in Hollywood are striking. We may see more English movies made, so the competition will teach some a lesson, not to be so sure of themselves.

Her whole family was killed, but from the first moment she was slightly injured.
The girl kept saying "He shot me" which was a clear indication
the girl knew the killer.
It took me a week to watch this.... I fell asleep so many times because it was sooooo lengthy.....

I love these Brit crime series, much better than our US fare.
Not said, "I let the cat in and closed the door slowly because maybe the bad guy will take that opportunity to push himself in.", "Despite knowing my life is in danger, I left the door unlocked", "I'm an idiot. I stand at the window challenging him. I don't call anyone. Poor, poor pitiful me."
why do people have to give away the story in the comments!?
They just think there's a one-on-one conversation, not an entire community.
