- Another classic Inspector Wexford staring George Baker and Christoper Ravenscroft. This is a VHS transfer. The VHS cover description slightly gives the game away so I have decided not to put it in this description. I hope this upload gives you as much pleasure as watching these Wexford's has given me.

This was her first Inspector Wexford novel, written in 1964.
The book is much better.
Wonderful episode but if one truly loves another you do not kill them, that is not love that is a desire to possess. How sad.
So true. 1 Cor 13.
Thanks for ruining the movie before i even watched it.
What about doing someone's wishes and turning off machines in hospitals.... or following someone's wishes with euthanasia and making sure it happens....
Crimes of passion..
So you’re saying we shouldn’t kill our loved ones? How are we meant to show we care?
What a fascinating episode. Well acted and very suspenseful. Worth watching again and again. Thank you so much for uploading.
Thank you Mary 😊
Wow! What a great twist! Took me forever to see that one coming! This series totally rocks. Love the detectives and their kinks and families, too. Thanks for sharing yet another good one.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen this, and I still don’t remember who did it. Let’s see now…
WOW! I have loved stumbling on this series...thank you for taking the time to make this possible.
Thank you. These are so welcome in the postmodern world, especially for those of us who remember the times when everything didn't have to be pc. I really like Mike Burden; he's refreshingly old fashioned.
@Terry Ward Politically correct.
@Terry Ward Is it? No such thing as fiction now. Everything's interpretable.
@Terry Ward Anyone who thinks ideologies aren't expressed in fiction is an idiot of staggering proportions.
@Terry Ward theory confirmed 😂
The background scenes are superb. Loved R.R’s books and the tv series with George Baker were fantastic.
Paul, Many thanks for all of your efforts they are greatly appreciated by all. Cheers Neil
Thank you, that was most enjoyable. I watch these whilst crocheting and cuddled up with my dogs!
Thank you so much for sharing, Paul! I appreciate all the time and effort you put into this! 🏵️🤗
Thanks again for another wonderful mystery.
Thanks to your uploads of these mysteries I hardly watch tv let alone go to a movie.
Enjoying these series. Thanks Mr. Goddard! I love very much detective stories.
Sueji Jaro-Ibelgaufts Another good one is the Last detective and Inspector Rebus Just in case you haven’t seen them great series
@@a.b.d.3974 Thanks!😊
Suddenly I remembered: George Baker also played the Emperor Tiberius in the 1976 BBC Television series I, Claudius ! Which was also a great series.
Caligula.. you will be the next emperor. Caligula responds " is that a joke uncle. Tiberious answers, "it will be"
bedstuy rover The Emperor Tiberius is dead. Oops, he wants his ring and his supper... Really funny. Loved “I, Claudius”. :)
It was captivating...each episode scarier than the last. Clever Claudius !
Yes! It really was terrific. I ended up seeing it as a girl with the family and bought the series later. It s still very much worth a watch
Yet another “new” series to enjoy-thanks!
Staggering quality for 1991. well done!
Thank you Paul for quality upload. I'm in Ireland and "cocooning" (I'm over 70 which means totally restricted to home) - it's great being able to see Inspector Wexford et al as I loved this when it was on television. I have to be strict and watch one a day!! Quality all the way... again, many thanks, really appreciated 👍
elizabeth mullhall Hope you are well 6 months later 😀
@@slinkysmom5674 Thank you, yes as they say so far, so good! You may have heard we're back into lockdown here in Ireland since Wednesday level 5. but RUclips is a great support - people like you are certainly doing so much for mental wellbeing. Well done and take care 👍❤
How nice to read about people all over the world. I, too, am in the same situation, and I love these old mysteries: Poirot, Marple, Wexford, Cadfael snd Foyle. I am in New Zealand. It’s cold, and I am rugged up in a doona infront of RUclips

The series is a teat to watch I am still young and enjoy shows that don't contain social engineering propaganda about issues not related to the story or I care about
I hope you are thriving one year after… in South Carolina in the United States we have been much more free but who knows what’s coming. Peace and joy in Christ to all who will have him.
Amazing episode ! Paul, you are truly treasure! Thank you so much for very fine and superb quality of this wonderful series! From shelter in place Sam Francisco many thanks 🙏 ☝️
Thanks so much for sharing. Love rewatching all The Ruth Rendell Mysteries!!!
So glad that I came across these! This is the 2nd episode I've watched and had a great time, the (guest) characters are funny and odd and quirky. The street scenes and shots of the houses are beautifully done. I am enjoying getting to know Inspector Wexford and ensemble of law enforcement team.
Again, many thanks to you.
Thanks SOOOO much for these episodes.....Awesome
Ruth Rendell, No.32 on the Ranker list of Crime Writers. This program was based on her first Reg Wexford novel. A solid Northern chap with an uptight, posh assistant.
Only 32? She’s a wonderful writer
Yes the posh uptight assistant was a terrible choice in every way. We got stuck with the awful Christopher Ravenscroft for the whole series.
Thankfully the Royal Shakespeare Company and a long successful career in the theatre disagree with you.
I love this episode. Paul, thank you very much for this quality upload.
I've always loved the Wexford series. Thank you for uploading Paul.
My 72 birthday today, been enjoying insp. wexford all day. Tnx, for the upload.
Happy Birthday Jarle. I hope you're having a wonderful day 🙂
@@paulgoddard Thank you very much. Paul, second day, now , enjoying Wexford. 10-10
You should read the book much more exciting and thrilling.
Thank you so much for posting this.
Great series great actors Thankyou
This is an exceptionally good Wexford. Thanks Paul
Wow that was out there. What a depiction of human nature.
Thanks so much for uploading these. My husband and I have been entranced by the incredible quality of the scripts, characters and plots - so much richer and more artistic than anything else on offer.
this episode was so poignant that i cried .
Moving a lightbulb from one room to another. I remember that. No one under 50 will notice that detail. Thank you.
Well, I thought it was odd but later they said they were poor & I assumed had no money to buy a spare.😢
Good plot. Intriguing, leaving the solution to the real end. Thank you.
This one was exceptionally well done and great actors, really enjoyed watching. Thank you so much.
Wonderful. Thank you so much Paul. I enjoy Wexford, always have. The production is just great. Cheers from London, Ontario.
Thanks. This one seemed quite different. I give credit to the people who made this series for trying many different plot techniques. Maybe it's not the correct term to describe it. But I never know what an episode will bring. Perhaps it's due to the author. I don't like few, but I think they deserve credit for not making cookie cutter scripts which are so common in crime procedurals. I appreciate being able to view them.
Brilliant plot...thanks for taking the time to share this terrific series. Much appreciated
Thank you so much for sharing your uploads; it's so kind of you to take the time; nice quality too! Blessings!😊👵🙏💐

yes too much poetry and dribble
Really enjoyed this upload, many thanks
Thank you, I’m reading these but I love this series. :)
Hello. The British programs I have seen on tc were brought to
The states by PBS/WGBH of Boston. I have never seen this particular series prior to discovering it on UTube and I’m enjoying it IMMENSELY! Thank You!!
Thank you so much for this great series! So much appreciated.
Thank you RUclips algorythm
And thank you for posting this wonderful series.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ you can always 5⭐️ this series before you start
Unrequited love produces the most intense and enduring pain of all. I should know.
Technical Meister , I know , I know. I often questioned Shakespeare's line " Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all " . Have you read Hermann Hesse's. .Gertrude ? It still has the power to make me cry ...perhaps there is a certain amount of wallowing in self pity by remembering that intense pain . ⏰⏰
"Parting is such sweet sorrow ...."
*
Don't know who wrote that! I suspect Ruth Rendell would have known 😎
S OHara Shakespeare - it’s from Romeo and Juliet
I find it pretty cruel that they questioned the husband right next to the photos of his dead wife.
You do realize that this program is fiction?
I know what you mean, I think they overlooked it in the script or production. It was beyond any police standards as he wasn't a suspect. Police movies should be meticulous about such details. But the episode was otherwise very good.
Thank you for the uploads. I’m in India and discovered this series online. I much prefer the older ones and have been very happy searching for the ones I missed. 😃
another excellent quality download - thank you!
Good Quality ! Thank you for the upload !
Thanks for sharing. I am enjoyed.
I should try to be more well-disciplined and restrict myself to one of your wonderful episodes a day, like Elizabeth below. But I am having so much fun. Than you, Paul!
Very good. Interesting and enjoyable 👍. Thank you 🙏
Never suspected killer. This a must watch. This is the best episode so far.
Hi P G🙋🏻♀️... loving the Wexford series...thanks so much👏, haven’t seen this one,so looking forward to it🙏🏻👍x
Thank you, I hope you enjoyed it ☺
£14 for a lipstick!!!!! expensive now to pay that but back then my mother would have fainted at the price lol
I was struck by that price! I was a young woman in my mid 20s around the time this was filmed and an avid lipstick buyer and I only recall high end lipsticks in department stores being that price!
I know lol 👍🏻
Beware anything with 'sable' in the name....
Great acting, proper soundtrack, beautiful production. They would not make such films today, not "diverse" enough.
god i love this story so well written and acted fabia was in heartbeat later always think of this story bwhen i see her, my fav wxxford always remembered it and iv read the book too thanks paul brilliant.
Learn to spell. And stop your BLASPHEMY. the book is better.
Great to watch! Thank you!
Excellent! Thank you so much!
Good acting and story as always with Inspector Wexford. There are a few young actors in this that went on to be successful in British tv. Amanda Redman and Malcom Storry are two I recognize here, plus a few others.
Wow! What a surprise of an ending. Love this series. Ty💕
Thank you Paul, I look forward to seeing these uploads from your collection. There's not much to see on television these day during this pandemic, but Waxford is definitely something worth watching..thanks again.
Cheers Paul, Joe from Philadelphia...
Thanks once again for a wonderful episode of Wexford. Really appreciate the quality of the recording. I don't get any adverts on mine. I live in Western Australia don't know if that's the reason thrre are no adverts.🤗
No adverts here in Ireland either ... or on one episode, maybe there was one (I think); may have been another channel!
Love the plushie kitty in the back window at 46:46. Also nice to see a young Amanda Redman (New Tricks).
after the regular Wexford episode music , the episode begins with a very powerful and fast bit of music from near the end of the Romantic era of classical music . It sounds quite reminiscent of of Antonin Dvorak's first or 4th movements in one of his 9 symphonies . and no not the Largo from his final symphony #9 subtitled "The New World Symphony" purportedly but not proven, inspired by his visit and short stay in america .
this is the 80,s Sales lady who remembered your name and purchases who was a debutante.
Malcolm Storry was quite good as a vengeful farmer in an episode of Midsomer Murders, “Who Killed Cock Robin?”
Yes, he is such a professional i sometimes have to look him up to be sure it’s him. He plays a victim here and in Cock Robin he was an angry man! I think it was the Wycliffe series where he plays a relative who us trying to get himself blamed for the murder of his baby granddaughter. That one grabbed my heartstrings. Wycliffe is still on Britbox but I wouldn’t see any of the others without the downloads. Living in the USA and really enjoy the downloads.
Thank you for sharing.
Thsnkyou for the good quality upload - much appreciated
Opening with the Saint-Saëns's 3rd was immediate excitement!! Wow!
Thank you for the captions!
Such good story's I really enjoy. 👍👍👍🤗
Great acting. "Cheesy" plotline!
Thak you for posting. Such a sad story
Love this series really excellent. Thank yoy
Nice of you to upload these episodes of The Ruth Rendell Mysteries; unfortunately, the earlier episodes dating from around 1987-1992, despite already being released on VHS (which is hard to find these days), have yet to have been released on DVD due to an ongoing dispute over the ownership and licensing rights. The same problem has occured with most other programmes produced or commisioned by Television South (TVS) because although the original master recordings are very much intact, most of the paperwork and documents in relation to the TVS programme archive have been going missing, with TVS having gone through several takeovers since their licence to broadcast to the ITV network had expired at the end of 1992 and was not renewed, which means that the distribution rights cannot be determined. They might consider releasing these on DVD in the future once they've found the missing paperwork and all the other documents relating to the TVS archive, but that will probably have to wait for a very long time.
BTW, how many more of these episodes of The Ruth Rendell Mysteries do you have in your collection?
Thank you Guy, it is a shame that this wonderful series hasn't been released onto DVD yet. I did buy a DVD boxset some years ago then disappointingly found out that it was only the last few that they made. I have noticed that there is a couple of German boxsets of early episodes, apparently you can set to English but the titles and credits are in German. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the ITV can sort something out regarding rights and release them officially. I have a few more Wexfords and some more recorded off ITV 3. When I have time I will upload more.
@Paul Goddard Television South (TVS) is no longer a part of the ITV network, actually. They ceased broadcasting when their licence expired at the end of 1992 and was not renewed. They were subsequently replaced by Meridian and TVS subsequently went through several takeovers by several companies. Worse still, the current ownership is unknown because of the missing paperwork and documents in regards to the TVS programme archive although the master tapes and storage media holding the shows are more or less intact. Well, here's hoping that current owners of the TVS programme library are able to recover the missing paperwork and documents and hopefully release these on DVD in the future.
In the meantime, I've found a link to a forum discussing on the whereabouts of the TVS programme archive and it's status. Here it is - tvforum.uk/tvhome/status-tvs-archive-41287/
I love Amanda Redman. I works a bit, but I wish she was in ever more stuff.
Margret made a very bad corpse one can easily see the slight flinch when the inspector closed her eyes & the distinct frown on her forehead..... Love this series !
It's no easy feat to play dead. I know an actor who's "corpsed" for years and he says it doesn't matter how hard you train, you are still a victim to your body's natural reactions.
Rigor amortis??

Unrequited love is a painful experience
Firstly, thank you Paul. Secondly, I saw this one coming a mile off. Comes of reading too much Agatha Christie.
Excellent episode thanks 🙏👌😎🇦🇺
Is that man using one lightbulb to save electricity? Am I asking too early on?
Thank you.
Children seem to be the same no matter when or what generation they seem to be from, fighting in the back of the car, they seem to be from the back of my car..throwing candy wrappers at each other is exactly what happens with children....brings back fond memories indeed.
It just "Clicked ".....Insp Wexford wears as HAT like in the 40's! Very snazzy.
A Trilby. Like my Dad wore!
Thank you Paul!
Wow...I didn't see that coming.
Thank you kindly.
Hi from Anaheim..city of Disneyland..Sooo enjoy this series..wish I could see where it's filmed the countryside is beautiful!
That was a good one but I thought it was the wrong person the whole time. But I really did not understand the final speech made by the murderer or why the detective would be so sympathetic. It made no sense to me why the death had to happen. Quite a stretch to imagine it. But then the vhs sound is pretty muddy so maybe there was some detail I did not pick up on.
The sound on my iPad is not very good at all.
Love these!
Thank you for all this movies. My English is not very good and I have a little problem with translation. I understand the plot of the film and the exploratory plot but I miss those little phrases that are unavoidable in English. Still, thanks for this too.
Elizabeth Bennet is always convincing and terrific actress .... I recognized her also for her cleaner in Home to Roost
Excellent!
