Inspector Wexford - The Best Man To Die

- As yet, apart from a VHS release, these early Inspector Wexford stories aren't available on general release. Hopefully, some day a box set will be released for us all to enjoy. When if it does, I will paste a link in the description.
From the VHS back cover:
A young man is murdered on the eve of his best friend's wedding. A young woman is found dead at the scene of a fatal road accident in which a wealthy businessman is also killed. It is a puzzle for Detective Chief Inspector Reg Wexford and his colleague D.I. Burden, who discover a possible connection between the deaths as they unearth a tangled tale of adultery, blackmail and greed.
Personal problems for both detectives blight their lives at a time when they would prefer to concentrate on their investigations. One killer on the loose or two? That is the question they first need to have answered before they can make their arrest. - Развлечения
Mr Goddard, never doubt that your time and effort posting these episodes is appreciated. You may never truly know how much. Thank you
EPL Seaman I second that!
Amen ! they never put Wexford on the telly and you can't get it on most streaming services.
Agree. One of the very best detective mystery series. Thanks for making it available at long last. So sad it is never shown anymore or more widely available.
My favorite detective I just discovered. Thanks for all the joy. I’ve watched many and each movie is superb.
HEAR HEAR!
Before I saw Inspector Wexford on RUclips, I had never even heard of this series, but now it is a favorite of mine. Mr. Goddard, thank you for posting this marvelous series.
I thought these would be dated but I was surprised at how well they stand up.Quality of the acting and of course Ruth Rendells wonderful story-telling make them a gem. Thanks for uploading.
The practice of not telling women their medical information and diagnosis, but telling the husband instead has thankfully gone down in the depths of mysogeny. My cousin died of uterine cancer not knowing what was wrong with her because doctors couldn't bring themselves to say the word "uterus" to a woman.
@@sandyagla6961I CAME Here TO MAKE THE exact SAME COMMEMT!
@@sandyagla6961😊
@@sandyagla69611
@@sandyagla6961 That really is disgraceful, apart from being unprofessional. And those doctors were male, I presume!
I've been away from England for over 40 years now and it's such a treat to have only recently discovered this program on RUclips. I truly enjoy watching the various episodes the platform pulls up. Thank you so much. I have always enjoyed crime series, especially the English ones, and I can't stop watching these. Thank you again.

I’m a Mexican-American born in Chicago (both of my parents were born in Mexico) who has watched and loved British mystery programs for more than forty years. Sometimes it’s a little hard for me to make out what’s being said because of some thick British accents, so I usually have the closed captions so I can understand what’s going on. Well, I’ll have you know that there have been many times that I’ve understood what was said and the cc got it wrong!! 😊
This was a period when TV was worth watching, thank you so much for sharing we really do appreciate it.
Thank you for taking the time to upload this excellent quality episode. Really appreciated. Such good mysteries keeping us guessing until the very end.....
It’s a brilliant one isn’t it! I live in the UK and it’s hardly recognisable in this episode or this era!
Absolutely love these😍I can even see how this influenced Midsomer Murders right down to Wexford and Barnaby's daughters going into acting 😃 Thank You 😃👍🇨🇦
Yes but these are much better, M.M. is ok but far too implausible, at least Wexford is somewhat more believable.
I noticed that also and I love MM.
@@TheVaughan5 Sure, but MM is meant to be a bit arch. Or rather was, as it has lost all sense of whimsy now.
I think only Sheila’s an actress. Am I wrong?
@@sandraelder1101 Sheila here, Cully on MM.
As an American I just love English mysteries. Of course I don't think any crime would be solved without 1000 cups of tea.
Barbara, That sounds like a perfect environment to see an English mystery. 🤗. I love the English mystery too and I will acquire your idea of the 1000 cups of tea while looking at these mysteries. ❤
It's a cure all.
@@noeliahoyos7111 All that tea?19th nervous breakdown!
Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful series. Thanks also for including the credits as there were many recognisable actors and it was great to actually be able to read them.
They no longer make such shows - to viewers' regrets.
Clicked out of curiosity. Watched 30 minutes of this episode. Created Inspector Wexford playlist and am now adding everything I can find on RUclips. Thank you :)
Why the absurd subtitles?
These stories and Agatha Christie storiee got me through Covid...still alive here...thank you for posting them...
These TV movies are just so beautifully acted and directed,,Many thanks 👏👏🇬🇧
I really appreciate these good mysteries that dont have foul language, etc. Thank you
Another Inspector Wexford video. Thank you so much for posting yet another. Merry Christmas!
Wonderful episode! All Wexford stories are excellent, but this one is definitely in the top 5.
Agreed!
Thankyou for posting these. A fantastic series that is completely overlooked by the tv networks in running once again. George Baker was an outstanding actor along with all the actors of the series. It and Morse are my all time favorites!!
Thank you for posting these..I really enjoy them..I can't walk much these days..and when I am sore I sit and watch them on my phone...so really appreciated.
Very glad to hear you enjoy them, Margaret. Sorry to hear you aren't so mobile nowadays. Would one of those 'scootmobiles' help you to get about more?? I don't know what they are called in English. They are like a scooter (an Italian Vespa), but on three wheels, and run on electricity. They are specially designed for people like you. Or have you perhaps got one already?
Really enjoyed watching Wexford. I love this type of Murder Mystery. The download was excellent and I didn't have any problem with the sound. Thank you 😊😊😊
Thank you and you're very welcome 😊
Just found this site and have immediately become addicted… thank u so very much for posting
Thank-you, Paul Goddard! This is a very interesting Wexford.....much appreciated here on the other side of the pond. cheers ellie
Thank you for these fabulous nostalgic uploads, so much.
Thank you for posting these episodes...After a long days work...really refreshing...to watch. God bless you.
Thank you!! I have been watching British Tv since i was 12yrs old..im 49 now and all the way in Minnesota..THANK YOU.💞💞
Great series upload - thanks to Paul for archiving these and sharing them and good luck in your NLP work - Im a big Bandler fan!
Thank you Paul. Like these, British everything. Enjoy Wexford ☂️😃
Thank You I'm in love with this character 😍 I had no idea I love these shows. Thank You ❣️Thank You ❣️Thank You ❣️
Thank you so much. I really enjoy this series.
Paul,
Good wishes to you and thanks for this Inspector Wexford mystery!
First time watching . LOVED IT !
Thank you discovered these today ... very good indeed
Excellent! Thank you so much during auto isolation, stay healthy and safe, take care from San Francisco! 🌁🙏♥️
I love watching these old English murder mysteries, 6000 miles away from the UK in tropical heat so I never have to put any heating on and risk finding myself in the poor house as a consequence. I probably wouldn't recognise England any more; it's changed so much in the last 35 years.😁😁😁
Everywhere in Europe has changed almost beyond recognition, especially since corona.
Thank you again. I've been on a spree and loving every moment of it. Many thanks for putting these series on.
Amazing that, after leaving the UK and moving to a remote part of Ecuador, I can still enjoy these. I am very grateful Mr. Goddard.
Only seven minutes in, but I had to say, this is a really top quality upload, thank you. The visuals and sound are, so far, crystal clear. I wish I’d found your channel earlier, as I’ve watched several Rendells today, and quality was lacking throughout. I’m commenting now because I know the books, have already enjoyed the excellent scripts and acting, so, now I know I can look forward to two more hours of good clear vid, I’m settling down for the night.
I am really appreciative of your time and effort uploading this, as well as, I assume, your efforts in ‘cleaning up’ video, or sourcing high quality. There’s lots of people like myself with pain issues and not much social life who *relish* decent offerings such as this. Kudos, and thanks from Australia, I’ve liked and subbed
I'm enjoying this show for the first time....thank you so much for sharing
Thank you so much for uploading these wonderful episodes on RUclips I just love English TV series especially Crime and Mystery,oh and hands down English comedies are my favorites.
Yes, Mr. Paul, we mystery lovers thrive on these gems. Thanks. ❤️
Thank you; I am greatly enjoying this series. It's new to me.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this series I am so hooked on them. Thank U...
@1:27 The doctor should not have said anything about Dora Wexford to her husband first before telling her. It's her body, she has a right to know first, and she should be the one to decide if she wants to tell her husband, not the other way around. I absolutely love watching all these episodes, I'm very grateful for them being posted.
Maybe they told Reg first because he was worrying about Dora more than she herself was! And Reg and Len are old friends. But I do agree entirely with what you say.
This episode was so interesting. Thank you for down loading Inspector Wexford. Love them!
thank you SOOOOO much, Paul! such a treat and a blessing
❤Thank you very much!❤
Mr. Goddard thank you for your kindness. Thank you for sharing. 🤗
It must be frustrating for law officers to be expected to spend just \s much effort when they detest the victims as when they admire them.
Agree
A wonderful episode. Inspector Wexford always insightful and real. Ruth Rendell mysteries keep you guessing to the end.
Michelle Renaud but he is go gruff. Even when there is nothing wrong he snaps.
@@PetroicaRodinogaster264 Reg is a human being with human emotions. And he is sensible enough to express his emotions instead of bottling them up, which really _is_ dangerous and unhealthy. He's worried sick about his wife possibly having cancer, and on top of that he has a particularly nasty murder case on his hands. Anyone would be gruff under those circumstances. OK, he growls and snaps a bit, but wouldn't you? Anyway a barking dog never bites, or so they say :-) And his wife & daughter don't seem unduly bothered either ... I think they should have the deciding vote, don't you?
Thank You for posting this series
Love these movies. Thank you for uploading always nice to watch on Saturday nights.
Very grateful to you for downloading this supeb series.
Thank you
Sir, without your uploads I would have never known about the most excellent "Wexford." Thank you very kindly!
Same here!! I've been enjoying and re-enjoying this series for 4 or 5 years now. I never get tired of watching them, or Agatha Christie's Poirot. Such superb quality whodunnits.
Thank you for sharing I loved this series. It is wonderful to be able to watch wherever and whenever.
Thank you so much for posting, I love Ruth Rendell and knew that these stories were out there somewhere in a different medium. Chin chin from across the pond 😉😊
Brilliant. So authentic and charming. Enjoying this series immensely 👍
Thank you 🙏
Did you know Reg n Dora are married in real life. Awesome. Thanks for sharing. I'm hoping more Wexford becomes avail. also. Sooner than later
Thank you so much for these uploads and giving your time to providing us with hours of pleasure.
Thank you sir! Your upload is of excellent quality. Much appreciated!😁👵👍 I too love all the Wexford videos, love the older British mysteries; they beat what we have in America. This charming genre just doesn't exist on this side of the pond. Yes, I like some of our sleuths, but it's still different. Agatha Christie is top notch too...blessings your way!😊💐
As a European I am very fond of some US crime series, like Murder She Wrote and, of course, my all-time hero Colombo. But I have to admit that Britain has produced the very best Queens of Crime.
I really appreciate your shows you download but I find the sound is low.
I love the series ,thank you so much ..
Thank you for another excellent upload. Loving seeing all these episodes
I am thoroughly enjoying all these videos. Thank you so much for sharing them. I love Ruth Rendell.
Thank You for posting these video+++++
Thank you Paul, I feel compelled to say this on each vid I watch bc I appreciate each one I watch 😂

Thank you Paul. That was an especially great episode. From Florida USA.
Thank you very much Paul for posting this. Appreciate it especially during the lockdown!
So hard to get these on DVD. And not been on TV for a while. Loving watching them again. Thank You!♥️
Excellent episode from a wonderful series.Thank you for uploading.
What a great show! Thanks so much for making it available to this new fan in New York City. 🗽😊
Thank you - this is my Christmas treat today...from KZN SOUTH AFRICA
This to was a very good movie, but it to I have seen so feel free to delet as well Thank You for sharing. 👍👍👍💜💙💚🤗
Thank you, another good one! Diane Keen is a beautiful woman, always surprises me that she didn’t become more famous in films not just for her looks but for acting talent.
George Baker has done some wonderful work, over the years.
He played a Splendid Tiberius, in
I Claudius
😎
I can just imagine him saying 'Aw, come on, Claudius' in his Reg Wexford voice!! 🙂
Merry Christmas! thanks for the upload :)
So nice to go so far back. Wexford is wonderful 😊
The 1980s? That's not so long ago. Try Agatha Christie's Poirot with David Suchet. That series is set in the mid-1930s.
101:55: It would break my heart and boil my head to hear my spouse refer to our second child as making up for either the death or deficiencies of a first child. Sometimes I think people should have to see licensed to rear children, because unfortunately literally just about anyone can sire or bear a child, but not everyone can raise one.
And then see what Nora has to say about _her_ parents, and you have it in a nutshell. Nice intelligent matter-of-fact young woman who's not afraid to look facts in the face. Bitter, of course, but who wouldn't be with parents like that. The mother especially is a bloody pain in the neck.
inkyguy good idea that license. You have to be licensed to marry, why not?
I have been saying this for years, and as a teacher, believe me, I’ve had plenty of reason to continue to think so. Why not? You need a license to drive a car, get married, and open a store. Rearing children is difficult and none of us is born knowing how to do it. There are many classes that are available, child development being the most important. Not too difficult to teach in high school, as part of the science curriculum, but no, it seems more important to to Mars.
Yeah, you can see how his wife looked so miffed. What a dick !
Will parents ever realize that spoiling their kids do them no favors? Both Sheila and Sylvia for example can't ever seem to fend for themselves, and keep ruling both their parents. Spoil your dog or cat, not your kids.
Have watched almost all of them, but hadn’t seen this. Thanks.
They need Wexford for real to solve some of the actual cases that are still pending.
Thank you Paul! I never saw this one! What a treat! ❤️👍
You're welcome 😊
That was a good episode. I didn't watch these on TV at the time, but not bad quality for VHS.
I read her books. I never saw these on South African tv. Thank you for posting
I just started reading Ruth Rendell's Wexford novels. They are good!
Do you like the books better than this TV series? I like the series better to be honest.
@@mfjdv2020 I am a reader and I like detail. Most of the time for me, the book is better. Here's an example. I am reading Scapegoat by Daphne du Maurier and the book is 100 times better than the film. I haven't watched the 1954 version yet, but I plan on it. I love all of the British detective/mystery films though I just like to go back to the original.
Thanks for posting these!
Ohh I know this series from my childhood! How nice to see this again! GR from Amsterdam.
Thank you Paul.. I appreciate it very much, it's sad but I look forward to your posting these.
There's nothing really worth watching during this pandemic.
Thank you, Paul Goddard, for uploading these videos. They help me while I do some sewing.
I admire you for being able to watch a video while sewing! :-) How do you manage? Don't you stick the needle in your finger, or sew two sleeves together, or anything like that?
Excellent, intrigueing movie, filling the endless lock-down time. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this. I accidentally found you, and now I've subscribed and tapped on the bell!
I just love these episodes ❤️! That's why I subscribed ❤️ 💕 ☺️!
Hi PG.. 🙋🏻♀️just found your channel.... such great quality uploads,,, thank you so much ....

Nora is played by Julia Ormond who starred in Legends of the Fall with Brad Pitt. She also starred in Sabrina with Harrison Ford.

Yes, I among many, many others certainly much appreciate your channel & uploading this.👊
Thank you very much from St. Louis, Missouri USA 🇺🇸
On a similiar note ... I absolutely love Father Brown 📿 🌂 & Midsomer Murders (w/John Nettles).👊
Try Agatha Christie's Poirot, with the incomparable David Suchet as Poirot.
These series are so good to watch.
*THX* Paul Goddard..... Once again George Baker / Wexford is just Too Frickin Cool!!! 👌
Thanks for this one! I myself was stumped and couldn't figure it out but he always does!!
Great story I've seen it before several years ago, but enjoyed it again! Thank you
Love these videos. They certainly don’t make them like they used to - except in the UK
Such joy working one’s way through the series (again), great plots and great acting 😊
thank you for sharing. i enjoy these mysteries so much.
