- New York is on coronavirus lockdown. These intimate portraits shows the lives of the city’s everyday inhabitants - teachers, gig economy workers and community leaders. We follow them as they struggle with a lack of testing for the virus, no income and the prospect of business closures.
In the face of a global pandemic, these people are doing what they can for their communities, whether delivering hot meals or performing online drag shows. New York may find itself on pause, but its residents are still trying to find ways to connect despite the outbreak.
The state has become the epicenter of COVID-19 cases in the U.S. With a stay-at-home order passed by Governor Andrew Cuomo last month, millions of people have been forced indoors. Many are unable to get tested even when displaying symptoms, and are experiencing financial uncertainty created by the pandemic.

We will never know how many people have been infected with this virus.
Truthfully no we won't ever really know how many have been infected and that's the scary part. Me and my husband were showing symptoms but we're both young and we're told to stay home instead of being tested. So who knows how many cases go unreported here in the US and globally.

@@ezfist9204 Saw those vids. What I took away from THIS video is how this Chinese business man went around with a team of Chinese people feeding his most vulnerable people. Is there a black equivalent to this? If not, why not? There are plenty African Americans (either entertainers, business people etc) who have the means to do exactly what he did. Maybe it is happening but it isn't being documented? Or its happening and they are all lives mattering it. Meaning they are giving to everyone.
Also, this event should make us think twice about who we are supporting because in time of need they are nowhere to be found. Once we are out of this how can we prepare for the next time this happens. Because it will happen again...

My mom who is 73 years old is quarantined alone, no one has helped her, I'm immune compromised and not one person in my development has asked if I needed anything, barely surviving. People who care about others are the people who care and make a difference, just don't forget about those who are being ignored. $5000 dollars for covid test?? It's expensive! Here you can pay for RM500-600 ($120) for a test. But it is free when the government find out you are close contact with a positive covid patient.

@Dra O it's not "free". It's paid from your Taxes, first of all. And the rest of the developed world have some sort of nationalized healthcare system provided and take care of by the governments. I don't see them going bankrupt. Please do your research before making such false statements. I live in Austria and have traveled most of the EU. None of these countries are bankrupt (infact doing far better than US in economic terms) and average debt/person is far less than what you have. They just know how to spend their federal budget wisely and what to prioritize before investing in endless wars. Hope that enlightens you.

i don't get it, US$5k for a test?? How much exactly are these people making from these tests?? In my country Malaysia at private hospitals it's just RM800/900, which is around US$200. But at government hospitals it's free. The health ministry are even testing foreigners/migrant workers after there was an outbreak at a place in Kuala Lumpur; for free.. People need to be tested so that they an be isolated & get treatment, how else is the country going to get well if you don't test & get them treatment..

$5,000 for a covd test? Isnt that highway robbery? This is free in our country, the philippines. And we are not a rich country. I know its also free in many countries in asia. Govt encourages people to get a test to get a real picture of the situation. Besides if test are not free, people will not want to get a test and if theyre positive they would infect a lot of people. Test and hospitalization due to covid is free in many countries including ours. And i was informed by govt that a korean made test kit cost $150 but a locally developed rapid test kit only cost $25. But of course its free for us, citizens. Also govt is providing relief packs including rice, coffee, canned goods to every family and they also get cash. Senior citizens gets more too. Pres duterte has ordered all tenants to waive rents for a month. Credit card companies have waived fees, interest and penalties and is providing emergency cash assistance. We are a third world country and so we expect US to be better but this video showed otherwise

No politician will be held responsible for the suicide of an unemployed young man or woman who has lost hope. But they believe they will be held responsible for the immediate death of a 94-year old from, or with, COVID-19. Should have lived within our means. I remember when NY went broke in 1975 and went hat in hand to DC and was turned down. Tightened our belts for 25 years, then 9/11 then fell back to the old way of doing business.

Its not about the death rate. The problem is if your country supplies will be enough to support a high influx of people getting infected. Even if they are not dead, hundreds of people testied posituve and needing to be in treatwd everyday will wear the medical system down

Sickness and death is STILL sickness and death. Each percentage point is person. A mother, father, sister, brother, and friend. Both people who have a history of medical problems and healthy have died from COVID-19. Testing is the only way to make sure that the virus gets contained.

My biggest fear is that when a cure is found, whoever owns it will charge an arm and a leg for it. Which means that only people with the right insurance or the right amount of money will benefit from it while everyone else will have to fend for themselves. Or it will be made into a treatment instead of a cure where patients will have to take it on a weekly or monthly basis and get charged for it every step of the way.

Meanwhile, three quarantines later, I find myself the sole provider for three high risk elderly people, while I, myself am considered high risk, the others rate higher, so I do the going out, like it or not. I’ve no work, lost my medical insurance, don’t qualify for anything.
Essential businesses and online businesses will be the backbone of our economy for the while, and taxes/money circulations will begin to reflect that if this goes on any longer. Economically, we will recover, even if it’s not entirely the same as before. Hopefully people will begin to see the system that’s broken and begin to fix it. Our government needs to be for the people by the people. Not for big corporation by the wealthy.

They just sent 500,000 tests kits to Maryland, thanks to the help of the Governor's wife, who is South Korean, who single handedly negotiated a contract with a South Korean biotech company along with the South Korean ambassador to the US. You could be IN wuhan, doesnt matter, that doesnt mean you get a test. We have limited resources, and limited people who can process the tests. Right now the tests are for people on the front lines, and for patients who are ACTUALLY sick. This guy should be counting his damn blessing that hes not sick and doesnt actually NEED a test
