  • I test the Wilson Cortex Driver with two difference driver shafts one being the mid launch option in a stiff flex and the other being a low launch version in a x stiff flex. We look at the launch monitor data to see what the difference is between the two shafts and also my personal feedback on the feel.

Almost any video where a pro hitter hits the same head with different shafts, the shaft labels of low, mid-low- mid, mid-high launch and spin, even flexes, become very vague at best. Just shows that the human factor is more important than anything else when it comes to shot results. What it tells me is that one should pretty much forget about the shaft marketing labels altogether, and just use the ones that fit one's game the most and which one feel the most comfortable with.

Great video! Shows exactly what I see when testing clubs with different shafts. At the end they all go the same distance just feel changes. Strike, then loft and maybe a little bit head design is key to lower the spin not so much the shaft.

There really needs to be a regulated standard for flex, as different manufacturers have slightly different flexes for the same flex rate. I saw this recently at a fitting where several 'R' flexes and several 'X' flexes performed almost identically for spin, launch, height and distance, but were from different manufacturers at the same / similar weight. This was with my SS for 60+ drives between 99 to 103mph..

I have the Atmos Blue in the 65 S flex. I don’t swing as fast as you, maybe 100mph. I have it paired with the Cobra SZ from this year. Works wonders for me! Thanks for the video! I know it’s old but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

You seem to be getting some of the best results I have seen from this Wilson Cortex driver.

Chester have you not watched many of the other reviewers? All are getting good numbers and data that are doing just as well as your typical big time oems. It’s a good head. Just depends on if it fits you or not

I have likely watched just about every Cortex review, but like you say, depends on one's own swing. But my primary observation was that the Cortex appears to suit Michael Newton.

That is a great shaft, but I am using the Fujikura Speeder Pro 63 Tour Spec. Cam Champ is using the same in TX flex. Fujikura does not make that shaft anymore. They are producing the Fujikura Pro 2.0 Tour Spec, Black to replace it with similar specs. The torque is really low, about 2.8 & is really consistent. Put one in your Ping & have it indexed for PURE or FLO setting. Extremely long & accurate shaft. Higher trajectory with reduced spin is only way you are going to add any yardage.

Great review. Feel and knowing you can get a predictable flight pattern (slight fade) is worth all this testing

Quite a few differences in the shafts, as noted the flex went from 'S' to 'X'. Your comment on the weight right on. Blue 6S is 64g and Black 7X is 76g. I wonder what would have happened if you were in the same weight range, using Blue 7S and Black 7X or Blue 6S and Black 6X

Hi Michael. To begin with, I love watching your honest unbiased videos. But, what fascinates me is where your swing speed comes from. Such an effortless motion. My club pro has a very similar swing which fortunately as club captain I played many times with him I’ve recorded. Could you, or have you already, done any swing videos?? I can’t slow down your swing on RUclips. Are you getting those hips through with tons of lag? Wrist break? Please explain & keep up the brilliant work. 👍

Hi Kevin. Yes I fire my hips pretty quick with plenty of lag. Here's a video I put out a few months back as many like you wanted to see my swing in slow mo......ruclips.net/video/Su8H7lYlmbo/видео.html
      Thanks for watching

Hi Michael, thanks for the reply. I’ve studied that video now, absolutely brilliant. As I said our club pro down here in the sunny south, (best links course) does very similar. However he loses a lot of height in the down swing, I guess what they call using the ground. If I do that I hit it fat! Lol.. One of the best video reviewers amongst the many that are on the net. Lytham is on the bucket list.

This guy in the video looks like hes 6"2 or so. I dont think he is a small guy. @ 5'8 it's hard very hard to hit the ball 300 yards..

@@scottywilliams1061 I watched an Ian Woosnam video years back when he hit driver on his knees. Still hit it further than me 😂

Good video Michael ,the numbers may be similar but the dispersion is a key factor and goes to show you should get fit for the whole package ,unlike a certain bald bloke that insists shafts have nothing to do with clubs or fitting and they are all the same .If my Mrs comes to the range I sometimes hit her Ping ladies driver and it goes really well to be fair ,but I miss balls left and right ,even though distance is good ,dispersion is not good .I think if more people had the chance to hit lots of shafts in blind testing of getting fit ,they would be surprised what they came out with as the right shaft .Merry Christmas .

What do you think of the atmos black compared to the Ventus Black? Which do YOU prefer in terms of feel?

  • @stephenlecoche9792
    @stephenlecoche9792 5 лет назад +1

Gday Micheal could you please do a comparison test of a shaft spine aligned and pured vs the same that is not. The comments and advise around the subject are quite painful as they vary from voodoo to a ‘must do’.
    Would appreciate your advise.
    All the best

I thought it was a pretty nice driver, hit it for the first time yesterday. However, I think there is better options at that price point. Sound and feel wasn't there for me. Definitely a step up from the Triton though. They'd probably do really well in sales if it came at a lower price point from the big boys.

If anything I'd think you are overpowering the blue a bit and not allowing as much lead deflection. The shape was so much straighter though with the black.

This debunks all those people who say flex doesn't matter .
It obviously didn't for you in the dispersion category..
And maybee for some the flex won't matter as much but for some as this video clearly shows it most certainly can ...
    Very good video ...
Now you need to go and give Ali a couple of lessons because his driving in his comparison of the g400 LST again the cortex was nearly as horrible as the format he shot it in .....lol

I have seen other tests where the distances from Senior to X flex where virtually the same, but the FELL is different - and that alone can change how you swing.

So it’s all about how you hit a ball is it? What about average golfers who predominantly watch these reviews!
