Great info on the handling. Would love a handling in different terrain and conditions review of the G5 expert and the Matryx. everyone is talking about the features talk to me about how they handle on the snow in the nasty. thanks
This one is tough because it is so dependent on the rider and what they like and what they're used to. Platform considerations including things like suspension tuning, vertical vs. layback steering, even fit and finish, etc plays into this dynamic. Here's our best effort: Sean is more familiar/comfortable on Matryx, and I'm more familiar with the Doo, so you kind of get both sides. The Gen5 Expert is much closer now to the Matryx in the same sense that Khaos brought the Polaris sleds a bit closer to the Doo playfulness in a way. They seem to be merging in the middle, and you could argue that that's a good thing for riders in both camps. They both retain their distinct "feel" though. I would say that the Expert gives a softer handling than the Matryx platform, which I personally like-but at some cost of precision. I personally want a sled that's easy to ride in tough conditions so it doesn't wear me out, and the Expert delivers there. The other Gen5 sleds feel very "Doo" still, so if you like that feel, you're going to love Gen5 even more. They are considerably easier to handle through the crud-this is especially true for the Summit X, which also has a 34" ski stance. This is the way of the future I feel. We do our best to share our opinions based on our own experience and preference, but without bias one way or the other. As always, the best way is to try it for yourself because they are both exceptionally great platforms! Hope that helps ~Pat
@@Montana_Motorized yes, you will like the Gen5 Expert better than the Gen4. It still feels like a Doo and the steering is similar (more stable though), just easier to handle and more precise.
Thank you! Ski-Doo made a ton of changes on the Gen5, so it's a lot of details to remember on the spot. We did fail to point out the adjustable limiter strap or mention that the new tMotion rear suspension on both sleds adds 25 mm of travel.
I think they only utilized the Kashima coated shocks for one season. New tech in some areas, less value in others. So much on the newer Doos that I like over my 2019, and at the same time, so much I don’t.
Yaaaaaaaa, might have a little bit 😬 Can't put them through a proper test cruising around an open meadow though! We do it all for you. Thanks for watching!
Oops! We ride and talk about every new model year sled from all 4 manufacturers in the span of a week, so sometimes we make small mistakes...don't read into it too much 😉
Not much different from g4, I know the guy who sold his g4 to get g5, and he said it was a waste of money. G4 vs. G5 is like xp vs xm. There is not that much difference. Still nice sled, buy it if u have xm or xp or g4 with tons of miles, otherwise think twice
i would add the shorter adjustable riser and t-motion delete. But yeah it is too bad you have to add that stuff to get rid of stuff more and more people dont want.

@@sleddermag So is someone who likes the Polaris/Cat handling feel more than the Gen 4 going to like the Expert better?

Excellent comparison, best I've seen yet. Great job.

@@sleddermag What you really forgot was to fully explain was the broken park brake lever and dented bumper. LOL
@@shaynedonnelly4591 don't worry, we had some explaining to do when we brought them back
what is your vest / backpack / radio setup?
Can you narrow ski stance on the Edge like on previous Summits?
Great review, You brought out details I haven't heard from anyone else. Thanks!
If you could show how to access the spare belt that would be cool.
Torx bit on top stores on left side cowl and boom it pulls off
Good call, next time we'll address that detail for sure. Thanks for watching!
Can’t wait for mine to get here
Show us how to access the belt.
We're working on another video that shows that in detail, stay tuned! It's pretty cool.

still retains it where it matters on the inside is the coating.
Does the expert have a more vertical steering post, more like polaris?
No, it's the same as all the other summit sleds, just a shorter riser. (4.7" vs 6.5")
Excellent job on comparison!!!!
what’s up with the front bumper on the edge?😉😉
we hit a tree...😬not our proudest moment, but it was probably a matter of time
Will you guys have any riding videos coming out with that 154 expert?
Only had 4 hours on it, so not too much time for a lot of filming. Hit us with your questions here and we'll do our best to answer!
@@sleddermag oh gotcha, I snow checked one and probably my main question is how playful was that expert for re entry’s, bow ties, etc
@@huntagottahunt1226 Nice, you'll find that it's plenty playful when you want it to be, especially with the long limiter strap setting

You can tell hes a hard core poolaris guy when he calls it a 155 😬😬 not sure doo would be happy about that
That probably why there a new polaris sled sitting in the background

Did "that guy" ride the Edge?
Both Mountain Sledder guys rode both sleds that day.
my grandpa says that they are ugly but they are my dream sled

i love g5 , g5 is better. i have 2 g4s and 1 g5
It's ridiculous that they still put that high riser on all the other models. It's way too high unless you're 6' 5". What a joke.
And it still has t motion and flex edge. It’s so you pay 2k more for the expert.
i would add the shorter adjustable riser and t-motion delete. But yeah it is too bad you have to add that stuff to get rid of stuff more and more people dont want.
i prefer it
Those things are Really ugly from the front, they look like eels......K
It will grow on you. I remember when skidoo rev came out in 2002, lot of people thought it was ugly too
I can’t get over how shitty it looks. It remind me of some creature lol
like a ninja turtle creature? lol
Seems kinda meh
