Ugh. Knowing her story, that quote breaks my heart.
I was just watching the movie about her not too long ago and it was so emotional for me. She died so young and tragically ❤ May she rest peacefully in heaven above🙏
🖤❤ I read her biography, "Thing Of Beauty" , and as intriguing as the film was, it only touched on the tip of her complexity as a human being. She had many sides to her. Quite a multifaceted individual. On the one hand she was very warm ,friendly outgoing ,genuine, sincere, laid-back and many people felt she was a breath of fresh air in the Fashion World. They enjoyed her playful nature and that she had a sense of humor and tendency to poke fun at how seriously the industry took itself. On the other when she was strung out on drugs they said she was a complete nightmare to work with and once after getting really stoned, she and an ex-girlfriend almost beat another girl to death after sexually assaulting and robbing her. She was certainly very photogenic though thats for sure.....
.....Drugs are horrible.....
Hope you'll do breakdowns for the late Stella Tennant and Karen Alexander.
@@followthebluebutterflyDrugs REALLY did destroy her. Wish she had beaten her addiction.😢
Angelina Jolie ate up the portrayal of Gia and left no crumbs. Gia was GORGEOUS beyond her years. Regardless of her tragic life, she's STILL unforgettable! ❤
That movie was everybody back in the day. I felt Angelina's portrayal of Gia in my soul... I can still cry when I think about it 💔

I remember watching a interview with Gia’s mom on a talk show after Gia died. It was heartbreaking and disgusting. She talked about how Gia’s stepdad didn’t want her around after her diagnosis and had her move out. She had moved in with them at the time. There was fear around AIDS at that time but she was Gia’s mom!! Eventually she ended up in the hospital with her skin actually falling off when they turned her in bed. I feel so sad her life ended this way. I think her mom was with her when she passed. She was absolutely beautiful

Very True
I hope before, she died that she asked the Lord to forgive of her sins.
Read the Bible it's right there when we live that kind of lifestyle we have to repent and turn away from our sins.
Homosexuality is a sin no matter what, happened in the pass.
@@Blessed-jz7fh well yes it is a sin but there are also many other sins, some I’m sure you commit also, just as I do, because we are all sinners. @@freespiritable And if you don’t know what it’s like to have your mother leave you than you can’t speak on that. My mother left me at 11 years old with my dad who she know had and would continue to abuse me. He started my drug addiction when I was 12. Every thing he did to me didn’t compare to my mother leaving me. I have lifelong issues because of both my parents, not just drugs but also mental illness. It’s not a life I would wish on anyone. It didn’t make me strong or resilient, it made me a people pleaser with no boundaries and an extreme need for love and affection. Therapy helps but nothing will erase knowing my mother didn’t love me.
She was one of the first IT models, her beauty, magnestism and regal allure will never be replicated, she left her energy signature forever.
YES! Cindy Crawford was not nearly as beautiful or interesting, so blah compared to Gia's looks and personality!
Beautiful girl. Sad ending, she was only 26. Now we're seeing hundreds of thousands of deaths due to drug overdose. Parents, take care of your children, they are not toys.
Some children keep turning left, no matter how good and loving their background is. People don't listen and make the wrong choices thinking, it won't happen to me (because I'm special). That POOR KID!!!! Her mother did a MAJOR NUMBER ON HER!!!! Then again, so did her father. I mean leaving and NOT EXPLAINING WHY to your child is the UTMOST IN CHILDHOOD TRAGEDY!!!! Gia, I TRULY HOPE that you found the Peace in the Afterlife that so eluded you in this life!!!!
Her parents truly failed her
I remember Gia very well. She was unique, truly stunning, and had it all, face, hair, skin, bone structure, teeth and figure. Unfortunately she had a chaotic upbringing and lack of emotional support which scarred her and drove her to find relief in drugs. Tragic waste of life, I hope she is at peace. She was one of a kind and a goddess.
I love Gia. I’m 5’9 and wanted to be a super model when I was younger. I was so nieve and could have easily ended up like Gia, so I’m blessed that I was lead in a different direction. When it comes to her skin and body care, she mentioned that she basically ate whatever she wanted and didn’t make it a point to go to the gym. Mind you, she was all of 26 years old at the most. At that age I would cringe when ppl would ask me if I worked out. Now at the big age of 40-something, I’m in the gym 5 days a week just to keep a decent weight and shape, so…
Im 5’9 she’s so inspirational
She was a junkie. You are missing the point except diving into your own navel.
I’m old enough to remember the fear and horror people felt about AIDS in the 1980s. It was deep. Medical staff dressed in spacesuits to treat patients. It was the leprosy of its time. People with aids were considered unclean. 😢❤️🖤

Gasps! I could cry right now. I am so glad you're covering Gia! She is my favorite model of all time. After seeing the movie Gia, starring Angelina Jolie, I've been obsessed with Gia Carangi. Her story was incredibly short and sad.
And despite what Janice Dickinson says, Gia was the first supermodel....well....in my eyes and heart. She deserves more accolades and flowers than what she's received. Gia was like Selena Quintanilla-Perez of the modeling world for me. She was this huge breath of fresh air and otherworldly beautiful (just like Selena was).
Though her time in the modeling world was cut short, I feel like she burst onto the scene, exploded, and made a small name for herself. I just hate that we never got to witness her full potential and she never got the chance to fully show us what she was made of.
Very well said & I couldn’t agree more with you with the comparison to the tragedy of Selena. Passed way too young and never seeing their full potential in their careers.
Girl you doing the most Selena was on a different level
@@OctaviaDiza-ep8vf Listen honey bun, I said what I said and there is a reason why. You're welcome to disagree with me, but my feelings and opinions aren't "doing the most". That phrase has no dice in this situation anyway so, you're not even making sense.
Yes, Selena was making a huge impact in the music industry, however she became mainstream posthumously because her life was cut short. And the movie created an opening for an even bigger fan base. The same can be said for Gia in a certain sense. Drugs unfortunately caused her downfall, however it wasn't until after her death that her impact in the modeling world was recognized. Even Vincent van Gogh's art wasn't appreciated until after his death.
All three of them, Gia, Selena, and Vincent, had very different careers, made different types of impacts in their respective industries, and were appreciated more after their deaths. Maybe you're "doing less" by not thinking. If you cant see or understand that then you're blind. Whether you can see or recognize that doesn't matter anyway. Only the facts matter. ✌🏿

She was a beautiful tortured soul. Looking at her pictures you can feel and sense the pain from her, its that intense. I found out about her because we shared the same birthdays. I was never interested in her modeling career or models at all. when I saw a picture of her I felt drawn to her so much so, that I felt the need to research about her. Weirdly enough I found a lot of parallels with my life and hers that were eerily similar. I do believe energy can recognize similar energy. Her last written words were “I still hope” she was beautiful inside and out and didn’t lose her compassion and sensitivity with others. Even through her pain and hardships, she still loved people deeply and wanted to be loved.

I was born 3 days after Gia died. The photos of her and Sandy behind the chain link fence are my favorite. Gia was such a natural beauty and knew how to slay and have fun being creative but always stayed true to herself. I see why Cindy Crawford was dubbed Baby Gia. Its unfortunate her life ended so young. Rest in peace Gia ❤
IMHO, Cindy is living the life Gia could've lived had she not given into substance addiction.
💔🙏🏻💔
You could be Gia now.
I think her inner fire and drive coupled with a tortured need to be loved for who she was and desperate need to be nurtured and reassured kept her in a state of constant self-sabotage that ultimately lead her to being abandoned and alone...the very thing she was most terrified of and most haunted by. That mother/father rejection can really mess a person up. Twenty six and just a lost child. :(

Gia's charisma leaked into the camera lens. There was something so amazing about her
Gia definitely mastered the "don't smile" look that was the rage of the 80s modeling scene.
Despite her having nice teeth, many of the models of said decade had poor or "unstructored teeth" where photographers and fashion house owners suggested they not smile. They had the beauty just not the teeth.
Gia, on the other hand, had both and could sell it. However, her don't smile compared to others, was unmatched.
Smizing as Tyra Banks calls it.
Thank you, Karine. Gia was amazingly beautiful but her life was tragic. We appreciate the compassion you show in telling her story.
Angelina Jolie should have won an oscar for Gia. Superb acting.
I first learned about Gia from the HBO film starring Angelina Jolie. I watched the movie in 1998.I thought she did an amazing job. Years later, I read the biography, A Thing Of Beauty. I just always felt bad for Gia. Her mother was selfish and abandoned Gia and her two brothers. She became needy for love due to her mother's abandonment. It was sad that none of her so-called friends and associates from the fashion world didn't know that she had been sick or died. I wish that she hadn't gotten sick and died especially so young at 26. Rest in peace, Gia Carangi.❤️🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️🌹🕊😇🙌🏾⭐️🖤🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🖤
i loved her androgynous style of dressing! it really suited her 🖤❤️
Read here in a comment she was bisexual and once she was deep into drugs, she and her ex girlfriend beat, raped and robbed a female.
That's what the comment said.
Her clothes showed her bisexual side.
Her mom wasnt in her life and her friends described her as a needy tomboy who would ascribe to gender roles. That really sounds like my childhood
I'm not sure why she was described as needy being so young, of course she was needy. Gia was a child who never got the proper nurturering from her nurturers so being needy as a youngster isn't unusual. As she entered into adulthood but still a tomboy or boyish she never learned how to properly solve nor deal with life's problems.
ALL GIA WANTED WAS SOMEONE TOO LOVE!! MY 💔 GO OUT TO HER!! GONE BUT NEVER NEVER EVER FORGOTTEN ✊🏽✊🏽😭
Gia had love but I don't believe her gfs loved her the same way she loved them, Gia was for real they didn't always take Gia seriously because she was very masculine at times not all the time but a lot of the time she was. But she could be feminine too.
Nowadays we feel like we are friends with our favorite content creators and we can “hang out” with them anytime we like. We also have access to all our real friends 24/7 via social media and texting. In Gia’s day, when you were alone, you were ALONE. All you could really do was read, call your friend on a landline and hope they were home or put the tv on in the background to feel like you weren’t alone. That is probably why it was much easier to connect with our fellow humans in the real world. It’s a trade-off. Just wanted to mention this for younger viewers to keep in mind when understanding Gia’s fear of being alone. It really was much different back then.
Fashion industry is hardly any different from any other industry, if you look at it. All jobs will use you and spit you out and next second you will be replaced. Fashion is just prominent because it is glamorized and because the recycling is very fast.
What a sad life. Were she still alive, Gia and I would only be three years apart in age. 1986 was the year she died; it was also the year I got sober and started a new life. Why do some people make it and others don't? God only knows. I'm so very sorry that she didn't. ❤🖤
I love you, love your insightfulness. You are so right about childhood trauma being the root cause of addiction and problems later in life. Bless your heart and thanks for the great video.
She was so pretty 🖤❤️
I wish Angelina Gia had the dark contacts as her dark eyes were lovely but AJ has very blue eyes. She did a good job. Buuuut i think Winona would have been a better fit.
Jolie has the dark feminine aesthetic and can really touch those dark feelings. Winona is great but she doesn't have that particular oomph.
I agree with you. I thought that they would've chose Cindy Crawford a real model.
You did a great job with this ❤️🖤 And I love the Gia movie with Angelina. Angelina did an amazing job with that role. Gia deserved so much better than how her life ended.
She was strikingly beautiful. It’s so sad how her life ended.
the industry used as much as they could from her but then disposed her like garbage when they couldn’t take from her anymore. They took all that was left of her. It’s strange because there’s poems written by Gia as a child that ended up being prophetic, almost like she knew her fate. She wrote something about a girl that was pretty and people kept stealing her golden hair but then nothing was left of her hair and no one admired or loved her anymore and she was left alone. It was chilling to read knowing how her life ended up. She felt what would happen to her even at a young age.
it’s an ugly shallow industry. I think she kept a lot of herself hidden and didn’t reveal her darkest truths even to her friends or loved ones. I saw a comment the other day that supposedly a therapist Gia was seeing revealed that Gia confided in him that her father raped her. Im not sure if it’s 100% the truth because he revealed it after her death but I believe it’s true. that’s just my opinion.
It’s sad no one protected her in life including her family. Every connection she had was abusive. I think that’s why she craved love out of anything because she never had it. There was definitely a void in her that she tried to fill with drugs.
That's gotta be bullshit. Idk any med professional that would violate patient confidentiality like that. It's illegal. No matter if the pt is deceased or not.
@@beautyonabarnbudget yeah I agree it is illegal and unethical but it can happen. Mind you tho this was the 80s, times were different back then. Even if the story isn’t true, there were signs of covert sexual abuse. Ive read the biography of gia and even gias mother recalled a time when gia confided in her saying she was afraid of her dad. Gia told her mother that he was sitting on her bed, staring at her In the middle of the night. It freaked her out. He was known to be violent with Gias mother and overall was a emotionally abusive father. There were many other things that were inappropriate of him to do. He once bought her black lacey sheets and implied to Gias girlfriend at the time, that he bought the sheets for the two of them.
I agree 💯 with you 👌 👌
@@beautyonabarnbudgetit's not BS bc there have been actual cases of therapists breaking confidentiality after a pt dies. As a mental health professional for over 12 years, I know this can and has happened, unethical or illegal, doesn't make it untrue.
If her father did that, that's beyond batshit crazy! I think the saying goes, "hurt folk/people, hurt people". No! The truth is, broken folk aim to destroy, that which isn't broken. As this thing that most refer to as light/being whatever light, is just an indication that said individual likely hasn't been stained in ways that they are stained or chose to stain themselves. As most of folk choices are made by way of egotistical thinking. Whether it is driven by greed, envy, jealousy or the likes. 10 times out of 10, said person is unaware (compliments of being disconnected from self and its instruction) what kind of outcome (for their choices) lies ahead.

Gia
As a child I always knew how beautiful she was. Was proud of her coming out of my city Philly. I hate that her mom dud her the way she did and her father was abusive to her mom. All that was a trigger for her substance abuse. It’s so messed up. She just wanted the love of her mother and to have a loving home. That’s what kids need and deserve. It’s messed up her peers didn’t show up for her at the funeral. Shame on them. I hurt for her. She was truly a gorgeous woman. And a legend

Everyone is fighting their own battles in this world. That is why we should be compassionate and not judgemental of others. We don't know what they have endured, are enduring or may be facing in the future. Be kind.
You're right, we should feel compassion. We should also feel compassion for those that don't look like models on magazines covers as well.

....actually she was PERFECT....and certain people KNEW WHAT TO DO WITH HER...here are some of the ICONS that KNEW....SCAVULLO.....VERSACE....CALVIN KLEIN....BOWIE....YSL....DIANA ROSS....CLAUDE MONTANA....STEVEN MEISEL......my personal faves....BOWIE....he let HER....KISS HIM....and put her in the FRONT ROW of his legendary PHILLY CONCERT for his LIVE ALBUM....called what else....DAVID LIVE.......SHE IDOLIZED HIM....SCAVULLO...who shot her every chance he got and made her an ICON....VERSACE....who knew she had the best BUST in the BUSINESS....and put her in his OUTRAGEOUS METAL MESH TEES...as she sat on men's laps and savagely pulled their hair........he also celebrated her AMBISEXUALITY....MISS ROSS....who borrowed her JEANS...and made them ICONIC on her ALBUM COVER....CALVIN...who created UNDERWEAR....thinking of HER....and put a GIA LOOKALIKE in the ADS...when she had become too ill to do the gig...YSL....who booked her late into the night...and blew up one of the images 30 FEET ....which he displayed behind his desk...until he passed....
She lived a sad, short, tormented life. Substance abuse is a gripping and unforgiving disease.
I remember seeing Angelina Jolie play her in the movie Gia. I'll never forget it. I felt the sadness in that. That woman had a lot of pain in her. I hope she found peace in her last moments.
I can't think of a better actress to play Gia Caranji then Angelia Joile. It's like she was born to play that role she is soo perfect and beautiful. When she played the Role of Gia she was Gia Caranji.Angelina Jolie is what made me realize that i was Gay.The movie Gia was such a deep Roller Coaster ride of emotions for me.The movie about her life made me become so fascinated with her.I yearned to learn more about her. This was a tragic story of how having all this money, beauty and fame yet still felt incomplete. She had soo many people around her yet she still felt alone. She just wanted to be loved. The saddest part for me is that she passed away exactly how she feared alone.
❤ Don't worry sweetie, we're never alone when we pass. 🕊
I feel terrible that she was such a beautiful young woman who seemed to have it all, yet the truth is we are all human and we all have our insecurities and our struggles in life. She deserved better from the people in her life and all of the things that truly matter...
It's devastating she died so young and with so much pain in her heart. I pray that she is now free from that pain and that the legacy left behind that she sees helped so many people. She will always be young, and she will always be beautiful. ❤ 🙏🏼 ❤
You did a great service to her memory, thank you. I❤️GIA
What a sad story. She was so beautiful but even as beautiful as she was she still felt so lonely. My heart is aching for here.
Thx again for a really good video.
♥️🤗🌸🌼🌸🤗♥️
As a Gen X, 80s teen who followed all the super models, I can't believe I just found this channel.
I will say, on some of the pics, Gia reminds me of Julia Roberts when she was really young.
Gia was one of several models who broke molds for what was considered at that time, a more exotic look. Now, her look is just the girl next door.
It's amazing how different generations see the beauty standards.
Thanks for this video.
I don’t remember her at all from those days. I remember Yasmin Le Bon née Parvaneh. I was obsessed with her looks 😂😂😂 My friends and I used to scour the mags looking for her.
@@jujutrini8412 Duran Duran put Yasmin on the map. Really only remember her from the Pantene ads.
@@cheriremily9360 I think it depends on whether you were deep into fashion at that time and whether or not you lived in the UK/Europe. I knew of her long before she got together with Simon Le Bon. My friends and I used to think she was so beautiful. I knew nothing of Gia until the biopic and I do think it’s because she was not as well known amongst the public in the UK.
@@jujutrini8412 I live in the US so she didn't become well known until DD hit it big over here.
@@cheriremily9360 That makes sense. Those were the days - I used to love the New Romantic boys with their fancy flouncy clothes and eyeliner. 😂😂😂
It's like this girl entered the world at the wrong time. She would have thrived in the current era and there are far more avenues for help now. She was truly ahead of her time.
She looked like Whitney Houston in the music video "Greatest Love of All" in the beginning of this video..With that upswept hairdo..
🖤❤️ So sad and just goes to show you can have it all on the surface and still be unhappy. Problems dont go away until we can face them and overcome. Praying she's resting in peace what a beautiful soul.
She was very stunning, with beauty beyond her years Truly ahead of time. Rest in paradise Gia Carangi.
I’ve seen one other RUclips channel cover Gia’s story … this is amazing. You added not only the photos but video footage as well, it’s a shame her life ended so young. Gia Carangi was so beautiful.
You are right. How you are raised influences you later in life. I love your video.
Rest in love and perfect peace Gia! You are still the blueprint ❤
No one from the fashion industry showed to her funeral speaks VOLUMES of how they discard her like trash.
So sad. What a beauty.
Part of that was the mother. I remember a lot of interviews where people said they had no idea she died. Her stepdad didn’t want her in the house when she developed AIDS. Sad! I remember her well. She was beautiful
@11Christys11 that's disgusting the part about her stepdad didn't want her in the house like he was gonna "catch it".
They discard everyone after they have used them up
@gabriellefromthe916.
No different than what happened in Spring 2020
All she was is a replaceable beautiful photo. Millions of women look great on photos
🖤❤
Gia was stunning and very unique. I think she was in need of counseling and support. She started modeling as a child. She needed a mother figure. It's too bad she didn't have more role models.
🖤♥️ as always you have such compassion, when dealing with such sensitive topics.
There was beauty in her story. According to well respected reports, Gia became a born-again Christian at the end of her life!
I hope that brought her some peace 😢
She was Beautiful…. How very tragic… 😢❤
Gia was so Beautiful. Naturally beautiful. I remember. There will never be another Gia. So sad that she died that way.
You are opening my eyes to these sad lives these Supermodels had. It makes me soo sad 😞
I feel bad for her , beauty and money is not everything all she need it is love from her mom
First time I've seen one of your videos. You story and your voice are both fabulous. Girl, you rock! I am IN!
I love the way you recount these stories ❤️❤️
Hello Rudy, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the COVID-19 virus??
Gia definitely embodied the dark feminine vibe. I watched Gia a few months ago then watched the documentary I read up on her and it really made me sad and feel for her. I think if her mental health issues could have been treated like her possible BPD, she wouldn't have become such a heavy user that she would share needles.
You should do Janice Dickinson who also benefited from having the Gia look.
Yes, definitely borderline. Poor soul. My daughter has the same problem and it’s hard, for herself and those around her.
She's already done a video on Janice Dickinson
Janice was b4 Gia
Was she really a dark vibe though? I always saw her as more of a Free spirit that went down the dark path (like many others), cause of life circumstances & turmoil. Never receiving unconditional love from her parents. She asked her younger brother to move in, to keep her company, but he didn't want to live with big sis at the time. She was into women but never got to find a stable partner. Seems she wanted to be a lot of things that didn't involve modeling.

I saw the movie, “Gia” years ago. It was tragic! She died of complications due to the “A”. She was stunning! I would have liked to have seen how far her career could have extended. Cindy Crawford was definitely her replacement in the industry ❤️🖤❤️🖤❤️🖤
Thank you for covering Gia.
❤🖤❤️🖤❤️🖤❤️
Great job. Your videos are done with such compassion and thoroughness. I read the book Gia when it first came out and was completely obsessed with learning about her. I understood what it was like to have that emptiness and need for the love and parental approval .
I am blessed now to be a parent of two beautiful children. My daughter is Gia's age when she passed. My heart goes out to her. I wish Gia had that unconditional love that she deserved and so needed 😢. 😔 It is so important to remember; having a child is a true blessing, and if you can't parent in a healthy manner it can be devastating for that child , even into adulthood. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't tell tell my kids I am proud of them and that I love them for who they are . ❤❤❤❤
❤🖤❤️🖤❤️🖤❤️🙏🙏🙏🙏
YES FINALLY A VIDEO ON GIA! I’ve been waiting for this thank you thank youuu! there’s so little content out there for fans of her and I adore her so much
Her biopic had me stressed out the whole watch.
Hardly anyone from the fashion industry went to her funeral. Very sad. She was so beautiful ❤
