Hi Karine, I just stumbled upon your channel and I LOVE what you do! I was always fascinated by the 90's Supermodels & Old Hollywood Glamour when I was in my early 20's. I used to buy VOGUE instead of lunch when I was just starting out in Chicago. I'm just a normal girl but I did some short-term modeling locally in Chicago. However, I had gone to college for a career in Advertising which is where I happily ended up. I've watched about five of your videos so far and I can see a binge watch coming on, LOL! I can't believe that Prince was so insecure with some of the things he did, good gracious! I was a big fan of his, it's so weird to hear some of these things. You are a wonderful narrator/biographer, and very beautiful too! I look forward to watching all of your videos! 😘

@@dennisallen8333 I was told long ago that in some countries (decades ago, perhaps not now) beautiful women do not aspire to be models as models are regarded the same as sex workers. I was also told this is why their "Miss World" and "Miss Universe" entrants are not the most beautiful women in their country. At the time I didn't know how true this perspective was. It might be ok if the young women aspiring to be models know and accept the situation before getting involved, but they don't. However making sure women know they will be used for sex doesn't make it ok. It's not ok.
The woman said everyone told her 'It's part of the industry'. It's what it is: sex trafficking is part of the model industry. It's absolutely disgusting and heartbreaking.

actually, there were supermodels of that era who did get work done, such as tyra banks, carla bruni, and anna nicole smith, only difference is, back then when people got plastic surgery, it was utilized for the purpose of harmonizing one’s own unique facial features, henceforth looking more natural, and not like the copy paste blow up doll aesthetic we see on many instagram models today

@@princessadora i disagree, it all really started to go down in the mid-late 00s with the rise of instagram “models” and shifting beauty standards, 90s models were fabulous, and thats why they’re the supermodels, models from the 80s-00s, actually worked their asses off, and the early 00s brought us the “slavic invasion” alongside the “brazilian invasion” which produced some of the most successful, beautiful, and recognizable women, with the rise of the karadashians along with the instagram “model” aesthetic, it bastardized what being a model truly was and people began denoting it to taking pictures in front of your bathroom mirror while looking cute.
They have been doing plastic surgery in Hollywood since the 1940s, at least. Rhinoplasty is a staple and usually the first work done. I agree that the last of the modeling greats was in the 90s; and the work done was subtle and the natural beauty still shines through.

I still remember her huge black and white Guess posters, along with Anna Nicole Smith's, strung up around the junior section of Belk department store, as I'd be school shopping with my mom in Jr. High. I'd gaze at them both with a mixture of envy and awe. Truly beautiful women.

I didn't find her pretty back in those days, but I can see it now very clearly that she is stunning. Real faces with no enhancements are hard to come by these days and when one is reminded of real natural beauty, it is just striking and mesmerizing.
Claudia was my idol growing up . I bought her books and workout videos . I even named my blonde chihuahua Claudia as a kid . 💚
My maternal grandmother, a Spanish German French woman, was a natural blue eyed blonde and washed her face with only water, a habit she passed on to me. Though I’m naturally a brown eyed brunette, I inherited her very fair and acne free/wrinkle free skin. I’m 62 and still have no wrinkles. My mom was the same. She died at 79 almost two years ago and she also had no wrinkles.

@@gtg488w just wash your face with water. Put acne medication on pimples only. That should do the trick. Oh, and don’t ever squeeze them. I gave my friend that advice in Jr. High and once she outgrew them she had gorgeous skin. You could never tell that she once had bad acne. Don’t give up!

I worked for a photographic studio where the owner said he didn't do fashion shoots because they took to long to pay - but I wondered why he didn't do it when there wasn't enough other work....
He turned out to be super predatory and i suspect the job of female admin/photography assistant churned through many women after he'd had a go at them. And i suspect he was banned from doing model shoots by the industry.

Oh yeah.. Karen Mulder... ugh she is one of my favorite models from that era. The industry is pretty shady (and low key illegal) and I hate how they made her look all crazy and drugged up, cause she could have been speaking some truth, particularly in context of today's attitude towards the modeling industry.

Yes! Karen Mulder the Dutch model she was pretty big in the model industry! And then.. you never heard anything about her.. yes! She tried to tell the truth.. poor Karen… and much later you have Doutzen Kroes she was en is pretty big too in the model industry!! In 2020 She doesn’t want to model anymore.. because of .. and there was an other Dutch model .. she wrote a book about it.. she wasn’t not that big in the model industry but she did something big to tell the truth with her book!!❤

I have often thought that very same thing. I’m 70 and just last week a woman in the grocery store complimented me on my beautiful skin. From puberty I never washed my face with bar soap. I used Noxema 50 years ago and didn’t wash my face everyday although I would rinsed it off. I never wore makeup although these days I use brow gel on my thinning brows, false eyelashes and red lipstick. Whenever I try facials or charcoal masks my skin breaks out in pimples.

I worked for playboy in the 90's in Los Angeles. Many, many of the top models, actresses, bikini models, Playboy models in LA WANTED TO GO. The money was that GREAT! I was asked to go as well but I am a very suspicious person, I said NO! Some of these women made numerous trips to the middle east especially to Brunei. Not to mention all the trips models took to JAPAN in the 90'S too. The modeling industry has always been DIRTY and still is to this day, ME TOO OR NOT!

I read very early too wanted to be a vet. No my friends told me I should try to model, bc I’m so thin and tall. However after watching the movie GIA” plus I read bits here there re the darkness of the modelling world. Plus I’m not American. But Canadian and 1/2 British. Plus I’m not going on some crazy diet to get into even tinier sized clothes to fit the sample sizes .Then I’m not a fan of even long spa sessions…..so, I do a good job doing my makeup but I’ve always had thin hair. Never $$$$ extensions..
