Being an external facilitator of a design team within organization, where people already know each other but don't know you?
Completely missed this one! Yes, here's one: assuming it's not too big of a group, pair people up and give them a moment to share what they already know about this project/or jot down their best questions.
Or ask each person to sit on the "brief chair" (or whatever you want to call it) and give them 45 seconds each to just talk about the brief - anything goes: expressions, sounds, questions, comments, ideas, insights, whatever - 45 seconds non-stop blurting.
You can of course do the same thing/join in. Helpful?
