It's funny... I played PZ for 1100 hours... in that time, (my save got to WELL over a million files) I explored the entire map, had bases of operation in every major population center. built wooden compounds, surrounded by metal compounds (walls) Ended up with 10,000's of gallons of fuel, an entire house converted into an armory, and literally maxed out each and every skill I had before I finally found myself in a sort of "Alexander wept, for there were no more kingdoms to conquer" kind of situation...
I tried starting new games every now and again, but always found myself being drawn back to the original save.
And, because I use Steam Remote Play, with a rather iffy cable... i'd find myself in situations where I had to kill the stream, or crash the game... and since PZ isn't the kind of game where you can just stand idle doing nothing for any amount of time (even just 15 seconds can be a death sentence), I would make a backup of my saves each morning before starting to play for that day. If I died to something stupid like the stream crashing, I would replace the save with the backup, and reload from there.
If I died because I was too slow, or just overwhelmed... I would have to respawn (as myself + whatever # I was on (dA jOsh 34, I think, was the final iteration before I stopped playing)) TRY to find a weapon, and form of transportation, and get back to my death spot, FIND my zombified self, kill me, and retrieve all of my stuff. to continue the game.
I always took my bodies back to base for a burial.
It's amusing having a grave yard filled with yous.
Makes one wonder, is build 42 going to corrupt old world files? i... sort of have a simular world, from january this year, one of my first world, a wooden fortress, just below dixie mobile home park between muldraugh and west point, on the sand road, i sort of have an attachment to that world. i hope the devs take compatability seriously.
I reckon you'll have to roll back to build 41 to play or else your save will be corrupted. There's too many changes, particularly to the map, for it to be compatible without serious issues cropping up.

No way my world will still load in 42.
But I stopped playing for a reason... There just wasn't anything left to really do.
I turned my attention to just clearing zombies at one point, but without the struggle, it was just me watching numbers go up.
I cleared like 30-40k before I got careless and got that iteration of me killed when my car got swarmed.
After that, there was a distinct lack of objectives.
Once you have a fortress, and an entire house converted to an armory, as well as tanker trucks of fuel, a chopper, a tank, a FLEET of cars (I have something like 250+ car mods added in), RV's, and 10 safehouses stocked to the ceilings with good, water, and weapons... There's just nothing really left.
Honestly, I took that world farther than I should have... I stayed LONG past endgame.
