I have no interest in learning how to shoot a bow, but your mastery and passion make your videos really enjoyable. Historical insights add an extra nice touch.
I do like a good short bow, probably because it suits my stature haha. On a different note, congratulations on your channel growing like mad! Lets hope those subs just keep shooting up.
thanks man i hope your channel blows ujp too, i know slinging is niche, but maybe try javelin throwing cuz the mainstream media know what that is, meanwhile 99% of the population dunno what slinging is. I notice you have a natural talent at throwing and if you do historical military javelin throwing, you could do something nobody does (proficiently), since the olympic javelin throwers dont bother with this, and the other "melee weapon" youtubers who tried javelin throwing are not skilled enough to test its true power. i noticed when i throw, i am not agile enough to get the javelin with speed. im sure you can
The use of bows on Horseback is why some armies in England/UK and rest of Europe also had shortbows in longbow. Then later for Horseback in main part of Europe later after Yew was mostly gone or wood only in UK, a flatlimb longbow as well as flat limb shortbow style in a Less primitive version of an African short Bush Bow design basically a no shelf longbow with flat handle around 50 inches and shorter. Most of the two shor that were up to 120--150 pounds in draw but not less then 60--80 pounds depending on area and the shorter bow did not need the higher weights to get the speed of arrow the same, shorter bows are naturally faster. The design of these bows looks almost like a recurve in the pictures and what they have found in actual bows but that is just the flat horn part/wood part on some bows making them almost recurves or more a Semi longbow design in more of a longbow/shortbow design. Of course, some places like Italy onward had bows that were based off either Turkish with more a longbow grip of design to the middle section, think Slovakia and Chech Republic and similar countries had for a Turkish design with middle like a shortbow/longbow grip. Then the Viking/Scandinavian countries had at about the same time in 1000 to 1200 when they were going Greenland, Iceland, and parts of Canada/possibly upper USA, a bow that used local materials to make a northern Mongolian/Asian Russian type bow with Shortbow influence combo of a bow with design due mainly to the materials available based off seeing what the Mongolians who came to easternmost Scandinavia had in late 900 to early 1000 and what the easternmost Scandinavians/westernmost Russians were copying when the rest of Scandinavia copied the bows.
you are absolutely right, in Italy bows was used that takes up the "eastern shape", because in Italy there was no defined shape but there were many cultures of passage, Tuscany traded with Turkey, the lower Lazio with the Saracens, Venice had a type of sinew backed yew ,in Piedmont there were the Burgundians (bows more French than Italian) recurve and reflex in laburnum wood, about 1450 a laminated bow called italic developed, I am replicating one in this time
I love your videos, ottoman bows are my favorite. I wanted to move up in weight from 50lbs but I haven't been able to decide who to buy from for a short turkish bow in higher weights for a decent price. If you don't mind I would highly value your recommendation on a good company for heavy (70lbs or more) short bows on a budget. Thank you for the great content!
thanks for watching. for a budget of 70lbs shortbow, there are no good bows for cheap (unless you consider a alibow H1 short). if you are willing to pay 500 euros then i recommend simsek or serbian bow Misko despot
Super interested in your solution for wearing out of the arrow pass location. This is something that's been happening on mine. What tape do you use, how much and how? Great vid as always! cheers mate
Try some kinesiology tape for the arrow pass, I have seen people reccomend it on forums so I tried it and it lasts better than leather, velcro and electrical tape 😊.
The website said this bow should do 32 easy, even 34 as a max. Could you do a quick vid pushing it to 30inches and describe if there is any stacking or creaking noises? At first it does seem that it's not meant to draw that far, but manufacture says it's safe..
35 pounds for starters to understand teqnique and biomechanics. I am a fairly strong guy and bought 60lbs - I could not get the arrows to go straight - bought 35lbss and immediatly was able to start understanding the mechanics - a few months later now 60lbs works perfectly.
Did you add the wrist strap to your thumb ring yourself or did you buy it? I like the idea of using a thumb ring, but having been stupid enough to google "degloving injuries" I am a tad cautious.
Hi Jack. I was wondering if you could help me mate. Do you know of any good bowyers that can make an ottoman bow 95-100lbs @ 28" that can also handle low gpp arrows (500-550 grain so 5gpp min). I want to buy one to test my Ottoman War Arrows on my channel. Thanks mate.
hello my friend i am a turkish archer. you got it wrong. The different colored feather of the arrow should point upwards. I hope I could understand. have a good day
Man, the way you shoot arrows from that bow so quickly and efficiently is damn awesome!

That does look like a really good bow

Is this a recreation of the kind of bow ottoman archers would use in historical archery competitions? Looks very nice.
not a good recreation, i suggest getting a horn ottoman bow for that context instead
thx

How does this compare to the majesty and the af archery Turkish bow?
According to data 52" is fairly bigger for sipahi ottoman ?? is data correct about the length ???
