Sounds perfectly normal to me, that's running smooth. It's GORGEOUS too, that's one nice LTD.

I would check all the vacuum hoses for cracks or leaks, sounded ok to me, that is the 1st thing to check ( timing sounds fine) '70's cars have a mile of little hoses attached to just about everything.

I see where the town car gets it's style from. I had to sell my land yacht, gas mileage is beyond horrible in huge cars.

It sounds like a bit of heat expansion in the muffler or exhaust pipe.

That is a really nice car. Would love to have one in as good a shape as yours.

I don't have a comment on the misfire, but I will say if you plan on driving this car in the winter, make sure you get it undercoated. Most of my cars are '70s cars, and I'll tell you that rust-proofing wasn't nearly as good fifty years ago. The ones I've driven in the winter disintegrated very quickly.
Honestly, this car of yours is nice enough that I'd never take it out when there's salt on the roads. I'd hate to see such a fine specimen waste away after just a few years of winter exposure. My LTD is my daily driver spring through fall, but in the winter it hides away and I bring out one of the rust bucket cars.

I just bought a truck for my everyday driver. The LTD will be stored during the winter months.

@@LtdAuto-77 Right on, good call. Though I'd say don't hesitate to use the LTD as a daily driver in the warmer months. My '77 has been my daily driver for over a decade, and its great.

Engine runs smoothly --- sounds just like my 1977 Ford LTD I had many years ago.
I don't think it's a mis-fire --- the engine sounds too smooth -- sounds to me like it's the exhause -- possibly the exhaust manifold gaskets -- had that happen on my old Chevy Impala - once I got those replaced, all was well.
It's a gorgeous car --- hang onto it -- not too many of those left out there.......

Motor is running to smooth to be a misfire in my opinion. I say look into the exhaust especially being out in the cold all winter.

LTD sounds like its running fine, i think its something exhaust related. In the past ive had instances where my exhaust had a rattle/hole in muffler or a clogged catalytic converter and thought the engine was misfiring or getting ready to throw a rod lol. Crazy thing about exhaust systems is that they can make so many different noises that sometimes it makes you think your engine isnt running right. Idk if this car has a cat on it being so old but that might be worth looking into, or perhaps a hole is forming in your muffler or could even be a loose or rusted out bolt on one of the clamps where the pipes come together. Could be an exhaust manifold leak too but i didnt hear the popping or "pfft pfft pfft" when you were right up on the engine so i dont think its manifold related. As a side note if your exhaust manifold is starting to go bad itll make a lot more racket when the engine is cold, as the engine warms the metal expands and the crack/hole will close up if its small enough. Had an issue with that on my dad's '96 GMC K2500 454 V8 truck years ago. Glad to see youre making consistent content bro keep it up

My 1st solid running car,1977 L.T.D || after a year of running it not taking care but oil changes. Insults from frds so frkn big , but it was a car . I noticed it would pop , pop a little bit accelerated o.k and quite a bit of power on highway. But I have chose to not drive in long time, my Ford was Gran Torino yr before but renamed L.T.D 2 next year . I think your the same young guy who has put work into it. You'll find the answer , I don't recall what work you did was it also brakes part of it. That's what happened to mine ,pumping brakes I was stupid to keep driving that way. In my old age I need to judge myself .Smart readers with comments thanks you too.I havnt drove since late '88 had car summer of 1987 21 .Amazing car . By I wished would hv done it safer ,I'm into bicycles not into technology of 15-20 yr . Take care .

I had 351 midland and quite a car but you seem like you'll find prob though as old as is. I also besides pumping before my made me get rid of ,broken clamp on distributor I think after tune up it lost some power and a guy told me he heard little popping when i would step on gas when idling. But you seem like your smart and find the problem & smart readers with comment . I know almost little then magazines ,books and questions to anybody by

I don't believe that it's a misfire I believe it's something with the exhaust system

Make sure that car doesn't have points anymore and it has an HEI on it. Get rid of the smog pump get rid of the catalytic converter.. could go with smaller tail pipes 2 in and have twin dual pipes that would be good. When you go to the muffler shop to get rid of the catalytic converter.

That car is too new for points

  • @herbienbrian2
    @herbienbrian2 5 месяцев назад +1

It is a slight miss. If this is a cold start it also seems like it's idling high. I'm not sure what the state of the automatic choke is, if it still has one. This possibly might be down to carburetor tuning or ignition timing adjistment. Maybe a combination of both and some decent 9mm spark plug wires.
