I grew up in the seventies, and I've always been a ford man. That ltd was top of the line, and it still looks great. I had a 76 mercury cougar about that size. It had a 351 windsor in it, and it would fly. I'm glad to see you have taken interest in 70s vehicles, and that's a good-looking car.
actually, the only problems I ever had with a carbureted. Car in cold cold weather was a sticking chock. pencil to hold it open. till it got warm enough those were the days nice car keep up the good work
Your purchase price was a deal in that condition with good paint and no rust. Id say it was easily worth 5500-$7000 as it was. so look at the big picture. You could have bought used tin can Corolla for 9 grand and wouldn't be anywhere near this distinctive!!! Shes a beauty, take good care of it and try not to drive it on snowy salty roads as it will get rusty. great to see a young guy into big cars like this. My first car at 15 1/2 was a 73 Delta 88 Royale followed by my 66 Toronado bought when I was 18 a year later I bought a 70 Continental Mark iii and when i turned 23 I bought a 67 Thunderbird Landau Coupe, Still have all except the Delta 88. Im now 58 years old
The Mark llls are awesome! You can still get fairly nice ones for 4000-7000$. Your LTD brings back so many memories. That style came out in 1975 the Landau and they brought back the hidden lights which were offered 1967-1970 on LTDs. Then discontinued 71-74 and returned 75-78. After that come forever on LTD. The Mark Vl and 80-83 tbird were last of the Fords to ever offer concealed headlamps unless you count the Probe (I don’t) which came out later 1980s but to me the Probe was more of a Mazda then a ford lol.
The Ford LTD and Mercury Marquis or Grand Marquis from 1967-78 in between they’re the next budget built or custom for anyone in between even though the Mercury Marquis isn’t mentioned in this video

Was it worth? Well...I like it. You've sunk a total of $9,000 in acquisition costs and repairs. That's a reasonable sum in today's world. Now...drive the wheels off it. A few great, memorable road trips will remain with you long after the price is forgotten.
Perspective. He could've bought something outright with a crap ton of question mark miles, financed something with a cvt tranny that'll shoot craps, or, have this thing that'll run forever with good maintenance. Albeit with around 8mpg😅. Perspective.
Great car. I would try to upgrade that air cleaner, though. The small diameter is said to hurt performance, but the better reason is the factory air cleaner has thermostatic control which helps warm up , especially where there is cold weather which you seem to have. Must of the time I buy an old car, it has one of those little chrome air cleaners. They were a fad in the 1980's before everyone knew they hurt performance and the cars would be worth more stock. I have a stack of them in my garage now.

Def worth the money. New cars break down too and cost a lot, and they are harder to fix. Beautiful comfortable Ford. I hope you always keep it.
