My old man bought his first LTD in '68 and got a new one every two years. His '78 was the identical colour, inside and out, as this beauty. Your right on the money about lifestyle....this car was the definition of upper middle class.
These land yacht's, if taken care of (admittedly rare, sadly) are amazing cars. Glad you found a diamond in the rough! I like it, it's a beastly reminder of where we were and how well we did it back then! Have fun with it Dalton!
In 98 I bought a 73 Chevy Nova 2dr, Custom from the original owner. It had only 60K miles and I paid $500. I put 100K miles on it and sold it for $3,350 to a neighbors 16 year old kid. It had factory White bucket seats. He had it for about a month and had it repainted in Bright Metallic Blue with White racing stripes. After about another month, he flipped it and totaled it. I had put Craiger Center Line wheels on it. It was a Great looking car. It had an inline 6cyl and a 2spd automatic transmission. I had also put new springs on it. Other than that all I did was maintain it.
Kinda funny, I bought a 76 Buick Skylark (Nova) when I was 17 with 60k miles from the original owner. 231v6, spun a bearing 2 years later on my way home after working 2nd shift at the plant 🙄
My grandparents had that same year, champagne with brown vinyl interior. Great road trip car. Floated down the highway 70 mph with engine almost at idle. I thought the trunk release button in the glove compartment was so cool. We were easily impressed back then.

Great move applying the fluid film. That stuff works great. If you want a thicker film try wool wax or surface shield. I do my vehicles every fall with wool wax and I use fluid film on the bottom of the doors because it's a little bit thinner. Fluid film will also creep for months after you spray it. I live outside Buffalo so it's a must for cars around these parts. Nice car by the way!

This was one of the original "little old lady drove it church on Sunday" cars that are getting rarer and rarer these days. I think you should treat it the same honestly. Drive the Torino daily and leave the beautiful yacht for weekend drives, when you can find a place to park it!
Grandpa and Grandma took care of this car overall probably just a weekend vehicle by the looks of everything and the last inspection sticker. Now that's nostalgia and classic beauty land yacht for sure. Love y'all
Fluid film is great, only issue is you have to do it every year. But if you live anywhere with salt and you value your vehicle you should "prepare" it for winter anyway and I think getting such coatings on are a must.
I just love seeing how you and J.D. work together and the fact that he truly thinks you are a awesome father... I had one of those in college. Had to redo the lifters at one point. But it only had like 50k miles on in when we got it at a YMCA auction. Was a great car.
Yet another top production. What an amazing time capsule, looks glorious. I always know I'm in for a treat when a PBG alert pops up and this was no exception.
This video was a real pleasure to watch! I have owned many '77-78 LTD/Grand Marquis over the years. Most had the 460 but I had at least one with the 400. Great car!!! Hang on to that cream puff.
The look on Jess's face when you're contemplating the El Diablo burger is priceless! On road trips you get really close with people. Sometimes too close. Those smog era 302's are gutless. Like some of the IDI's and other 80's stuff they're so gutless that they live forever though!
Thank you, easy calling that car 50 years old (the tires at least) because along with that car, I was born in 78 as well, and I'll have you know I'm 45, sir, not 50! Man I miss my Nana's 75LTD. I'm SO sad.. again. You're the only person in the world who puts up videos of the ONE car I cry about almost every single day.
My son daily drove a cream puff Chrysler Fifth Avenue with 60K miles on it. It was a good car for him, and we sold it for decent profit last year when he was ready to move on. Land yachts make great daily drivers!
Sorry I'm late to the party; I was afraid you were going to molest that strangely beautiful old '78. Delighted to see that you fixed her up and loved her. My folks had a '72, pretty much the same car less a few fancies like the Hidden Headlights. Loved: Jess w/ her hair down, the Cool Blue Disco shirt and The Night On The Town. Packing the wheel bearings the RIGHT way, although the gloves surprised me. Attempting a "squeal" from the tires. (LOL! By the time you tuned that 400M to "sort of" quit pinging on acceleration, it was too timing-delayed to get out of it's own way.) OTOH that beast will last as long as you can afford to put gas in it. Oh and one warning to you: the headlight switch on those, as they aged, would develop a nasty habit of dropping ALL the lights at random. The failure was the plastic switch box cracking from heat. I don't think Ford recalled it, but it was a well known issue "back in the day".
I learned to drive in a 1974 Galaxie. Also took it cruising with my pals and gf… late at night when my parents were asleep. Pushing that huge tank out of the garage alone was quite a task! I had to start it on the street otherwise my parents would notice. And yes, I ran out of gas many times, being 14-16 y.o. I had no money for gas. Ours was fully loaded metallic red, tan vinyl top, tan interior with that awesome “airplane shifter” everyone in my circle still remembers our escapades some 40 years later. Enjoy that beauty of a car!
My folks had a 78 when I was learning to drive in 1984. Quality was definitely not good… The factory paint was bubbling and falling off when it was a couple years old. The factory 302v8 threw a rod at 70k. Great highway cruiser though. Last time I drove it I got a flat and when we jacked it using the bumper jack, the bumper fell off. Lol. Fun times. I’d love to find one as nice as yours. Thanks for saving this one!
Land Shark Memories My Grandma and Grandpa had this car-a true Land Shark! They passed it down to my mom and us kids. After my brothers used it and eventually got their own cars, it was mine. The safest car on the road. You could hit a deer and still be fine. We even measured it once: 17 and a half feet of solid steel. It guzzled a quart of oil every month, but you couldn't help but love it. The turn signal? Cul-clink... Cu-ckung-you’d hear it from that left-floor relay. And don’t forget the brights button-right by the left foot, of course! When I went to community college, I’d leave spray paint cans on the hood, and artists would add tasteful graffiti to it. That car wore its stories well. Hard to believe a family of 7 could all fit and go to our favorite pizzaria Momma Mia's on Plymouth Road!
When Aerosmith Ragdoll song is the 1st tune you hear while driving...... this car was meant to hit the road and cruise many of miles...... Permanent Vacation
... just binge watching... and wow what an awesome find this LTD.... must have been kept inside a temperature controlled garage. All the trim is in perfect condition.. like a time warp
I miss my old 76 LTD. it was less than ten years old when I got it, and it was still going when I sold it twenty years later. It was like driving from your couch. It got me to California and back to Minnesota three times with no problems. It also spent two years driving California freeways on the last trip. I got back to Minnesota through the Halloween Blizzard in 1991.
50:41 Dalton: not all of us on the West Coast are rust free.. I live on Vancouver Island (off the coast of Washington State). The air is salty, and everything rusts, regardless of in a shop/Garage or outside. Winter Storms are the worst, when you can taste the salt in the air damn near.. Specially when we have a tropical storm that parks itself off shore between us & Alaska, and winds are in an excess of 40 mph with gusts to 80 mph.
Also, the blue tag denotes an officer so the gate guards can salute as you drive up, enlisted had red ones, so I wish you had kept the blue Ft. Leavenworth tag! I was in the Army. The blue lettered bumper tag is also blue for officers, so you might get a salute outta that one, but its' placement makes that iffy.
I have a 73 Mercury Cougar xr7 that has 78 thousand miles on it. Sadly the original 351 Cleveland blew and they pulled the drivetrain. I got it after it sat in a barn since 1996 and I’m trying to revive a drivetrain from my uncles old 75 ranchero that is long gone so I can bring the cougar back to life.
Yeah with Ford's if you don't use the cruise control for some reason I believe it something to do with the vacuum l can't remember. But it is a easy fix something with the cable sticks if you lube it a lot of times it will start to work. When you get it working the cruise is like the air conditioning you know even in the winter you run the air a couple times a year. To keep the seals and orings lubercated so that they don't dry up and start to leak. Same thing with the cruise you use it to every once in a while to keep the cable from sticking if You don't use your cruise control a lot.
Awesome find Dalton. My father was a used car manager from the early 70s to the mid 80s so we would take all these cars home for demonstrators. My mother had a new car every three months lol and buy new. I mean a used new car. Such a cool find.

Grandpa and Grandma took care of this car overall probably just a weekend vehicle by the looks of everything and the last inspection sticker. Now that's nostalgia and classic beauty land yacht for sure. Love y'all
WOW!!! What a GREAT find. I've always wondered how many vintage cars have been protected on this level. Enjoy!!!
i wonder if movie studios would pay top dollar for a time capsule like this, it be perfect for a movie set in 1979
Fluid film is great, only issue is you have to do it every year. But if you live anywhere with salt and you value your vehicle you should "prepare" it for winter anyway and I think getting such coatings on are a must.
Quick job and worth the effort!
The fleet gets fluid film every November buy it by the case. Stuff works
Sponsorships may come and go, but Low Buck Club is for life. Gorgeous car. I can't believe you found one in such good shape!
I just love seeing how you and J.D. work together and the fact that he truly thinks you are a awesome father... And you are, and im so happy that you got that kind of son that loves what you´re doing! Its really awesome to see you both sharing the passion, hope he never grows out of that and that he will continue to follow you around all these cars with a camera for years and years to come!
Congrats on that beautiful original boat!
"There's not a bit of rust under the roof" is either the most PBG thing I've heard yet, or the best deep cut ever dropped.......like a bowling ball.
the vacuum hose to the master brake booster can collapse on those older rigs causing brake fade
Holy crap that is the most preserved land yacht I have ever seen beautiful car
Glad to see you getting some sponsors! We can rest easy knowing you won't lose the shop anytime soon 😅
Dalton's subscribers are rabidly loyal wrench heads. I'm damn sure if he was in a corner, we'd all chip in $5 to help out, but you're right.....nothing says "My channel is getting traction" like sponsors.
AG1 nerd. Big time RUclipsr here! Congrats Dalton on the sponsorship. Whatever it takes for you to keep bringing the great content!
Oh WOW!! God Bless you brother! Incredible Condition
I have a 55 Packard with 1966 spark plug wires and points and it don’t miss a beat.believe it or not the 55 only has 28000.
As VGG would say, that really is a going to town rig. Merry Christmas boys. 👍
i think he was making fun of vgg with that oil change rant lol
I love His videos and I also like pole barn videos I like them in there own way. I don’t why they act like they are in competition I watch them both.
Dalton please stay the way you are. You are truly a good guy. I like the new ride, and I can tell you do as well. Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year.
You have done so well with this channel, you and JD both. Much respect. Definitely my favorite channel, been watching from the start. Will watch until the end. Keep the great content coming👍
What a beautiful car 👏👏👏
I had one of those in college. Had to redo the lifters at one point. But it only had like 50k miles on in when we got it at a YMCA auction. Was a great car.
OMG! That is a beautiful car you got yourself there
I love it!
I miss those dashboards. It makes it easy for us guys who work in surveillance.
Congratulations on the partnership! Glad to see you making progress on RUclips. You deserve it, keep it up dude💪
Man... So happy for you and your family on this one. You guys deserve it!! God Bless And a Merry Christmas!!
This is an amazing car! And thank you so much for going the extra mile and coating the underide to keep it safe from rust!
THAT'S A BEAUTIFUL FORD LTD from 1978.
I've got a 56000 mile 73 galaxie 2 Dr. All original, second owner. Most reliable vehicle I've ever even been around.
I learned to drive in a 1974 Galaxie. Also took it cruising with my pals and gf…
late at night when my parents were asleep.
That's gorgeous.
The 70’s LTD's had a problem with the bumpers doing that, I seem to recall.
I so want to see you take this on power tour and cruising the coast. This is the best car of them all on those tours.
I love that you bought this car to actually drive it like it was intended not let it sit another twenty years that’s a quality unit 😢
You know Dalton is in love when he breaks out the fender covers! that is a first for this channel!
Land Shark Memories
My Grandma and Grandpa had this car-a true Land Shark!
Hard to believe a family of 7 could all fit and go to our favorite pizzaria Momma Mia's on Plymouth Road!
wow this is a beautiful find. Absolutely wonderfully beautiful car.
I love that car. Just the most comfortable thing
@@PoleBarnGarage doesn't need much restor for an episode, but would be great to see a "full tune up" episode,,,lol awesome car,,, super jealous ;-]
My God that is the prettiest car I've seen since I bought my 1985 C20 Suburban.
I love the LTD that is awesome. It looks better than me and I was born in 1978!!
Probably not your style but some Detroit steel wheels would look sick on that thing. Awesome find!
Awesome find Dalton. My father was a used car manager from the early 70s to the mid 80s so we would take all these cars home for demonstrators. My mother had a new car every three months lol and buy new. I mean a used new car. Such a cool find.
I really enjoy your page. You never know what you’re gonna have on it.
What a find! Put that thing in a connex box and pull it out when your grandkid gets his license
How in Thee Hell did you find it your absolutely correct a Brand New 50yr old car Hell YEAH 👍 👍 👍.
Tom Selleck called, he wants his mustache back. Oh, and Ted Nugent called too, and he wants his shirt back lol
