I love the $1000 project - you save and find other ways of making money until you reach $1000 and then you put that on your credit card, or loan or mortgage, etc. Every time you don’t spend money - say a dinner with friends is cancelled and you had budgeted $50 for it - you transfer that to the savings. I’ve also divided my disposable income (after bills) into a daily allowance per fortnightly paycheck - if I come in under, the leftover for that day goes to savings. If I come in over, I have to be frugal until I’m back to my daily budget for that fortnight. It’s amazing to see how fast I can get to $1000 by just considering what I buy and making better choices.
I have been spending wayyy too much money on things I most definitely don’t need over the past three or so months and I know it’s because life’s been a little difficult lately and I use it as a means to kind of make me feel something positive which is saaad, haha. I’m gonna watch this video every day now until I get better at NOT doing that!
My very simple but life changing tip I started to live by is spending mindfully. By simply being aware, it gives me a chance to really contemplate my wants vs needs vs my current financial situation... and eventually has led to better decisions. I started doing that this month and my cc bills literally has dropped a LOOOT! Thanks Carrie for this video!
Hi Carrie, thanks for this! Could you make one about investing? As a young woman I find it quite difficult to approach financial investments and I'd be curious to know about your experience and if have any tips about how to start. Also, so very excited about the podcast, and can't wait to listen!
Its so good to hear when people stop getting their coffee in Starbucks or whatever. It’s much more environmentally friendly also to stop drinking out of all of those plastic cups and straws. Plus homemade coffe is just so much better. Love you!
Maggdzia Yes Right and I buy coffee from the grocery store and make my coffee at home . I buy Starbucks Coffee whenever I get a gift cards or sometimes a bag of coffee from Starbucks 😍
Read the Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey in October on a flight to Japan and it totally changed my life. It kick started my journey to being debt free! Carrie if you haven’t read that book or listened to his podcast I highly recommend it. Life changing! Loved this video so much. I’ve gotten into the habit of listening to all things money to help motivate me in my journey! Love you! You’re my favorite!
This book TOTALLY changed my life. I probably wouldn't have my RUclips channel if I hadn't read it! It began my journey of the UNIQUE MONTHLY WRITTEN BUDGET! So inspiring.
So glad you’ve made all these amazing changes! I’ve started to rethink my purpose and bad money management has no place in it. I’ve become a little frugal and appreciate and have gratitude for the small things.
5am Jack I love your comment. You have to appreciate what you have in order to save money. When my husband and I started tracking our expenses it was a game changer for us.
I do not own credit cards, loans or any debt and I am really against it, unless there is a desperate situation. We are saving up for the house and it will take us another 5 years to save up for the house, that we will pay in cash ))) thanks to my parents, who taught me how to handle finances since early age 😊
I completely understand what you're talking about when it comes to paying down debt. I'm 21 and whenever I have extra cash I know I should be putting it towards my student loans but I cant bring myself to do it. I always pay all of my other bills on time but it's almost like I've convinced myself that my loans dont exist. This video was meant for me and my future self! Thank you, Carrie!
Ahh I loved this. I am a college student right now and I know for a fact that I blow SO MUCH money on coffees, going out, eating out, etc. and it really does add up. These were great tips.
im honestly pretty crazy with my savings, I save about 50% or more of my income. I only leave enough money in my checking account for that months budget and transfer everything else to savings. I know maybe not everyone can do something that drastic but I just automatically think of saving instead of spending my money.
Living within your means is sooo important and one of the best ways to tackle debt. My hubby and I have always been sceptical about credit card use and spending money that is not actually ours. As such, we've only ever had a low fee credit card with a small balance so if we do use it, it is easy to pay off. I will definitely be watching out for more finance videos! Love from Australia Xx
I'm doing the $5,000 a year with the 52-week money challenge since january from pinterest and it's going great. It's such a great feeling to know that you have some money on the side for emergencies or fun things like a holiday
Great video! Over the last couple years, I’ve been lowering my expenses, increasing my investment ROI, and I started living off my investments while saving 100% of my income! 😁👌
I am so happy this is a new interest of mine and that budgeting is so interesting. We have student loan dept but only pay the minimum since the interest is 0.15% and our savings account have 0.75% interest, so we earn more by saving than paying. But we do pay every month anyway because we have to. We also have a mortgage on our appartment but doing well there. I really want to earn extra to get rid of dept but haven't found anything that work yet.
I absolutely loved this video. Mostly because most financial videos or blogs seem to complex or complicated. But you gave such simple yet extremely informative advice that I'm pondering over right now as I type this comment. Even though I just noticed this was from over 2 years ago, its still fantastic and truly relevant for today. So yeah, thank you.
Loved this video! I'm going through the same thing essentially (26 yrs old, moved out at 23, paid for everything on a CC, lived way outside my means, didn't pay my student loans when I should have...), now I live with my boyfriend and we are trying to figure out where our money is going and why we both have so much debt between us! How did you and your significant other come up with a spending and savings plan that made you both happy?
For me, it helped to write a list with all the bills I have to pay every month and then figure out where I can get a better deal or what isn't really important at the moment. For example, I quit the gym because I started doing my exercises at home. That has saved me 40 € per month. Then I realised that I pay way too much for my phone and I started looking for a better deal. You don't have to eliminate everything at the same moment. Just go through the list and figure out where you can save more. The other thing is that I loooove makeup and I couldn't resist spending some money, so I started selling makeup I didn't use anymore and for what I earned I bought new things for myself. So my bank account stayed the same but I got some new stuff. =) That gives you a really good feeling when you are suddenly allowed to spend some money again. Talk to your partner what is important for both of you and where each one can help saving money. =) I hope that helped you a little bit!
Please please please do more of these financial videos! What you said about being in your early 20's and wanting that instant gratification really hit home for me. In particular, I'd love to see more content about paying off debt. I'm just coming out of graduate school & of course have a frightening amount of student loan debt looming over my head. When I try to sit down and develop a plan for my finances, I get so anxious that I run away and completely ignore it. Any future videos about finances would be GREATLY appreciated.
It is always scary to start. I think when facing things that scare us we don't need to wait till the fear passes. We need to accept that we have to do it afraid.
Thank you so much Carrie! I'm 23 and about graduate from college (scary). But I appreciate and take to heart all your advice because your such a role model for young women.
These are actually really great tips! I’ve been always saying „I’ll commit to saving money when I buy my own apartment”. But I didn’t realize that before that I’ll spend enormous amount of unnecessary money on coffee, burgers, taxis etc. I’m starting it now!
Please make more videos like this! I’m 100k in college debt and feel like my life is over 😅 I’m trying to make money by doing RUclips and starting my own business, but that insane amount of debt feels like a huge beast
Courtney Violetta hi. I’m sorry to hear about your college debt. Have you tried tracking your expenses or meal planning. Those two made such a difference for my husband and I to save money to then apply to our bills. Good luck.
Please more about finances😍😍 I really really like this topic, Thats why I always watch the financial diet☺️ I would really enjoy hearing more about that from you, it‘s so motivating☺️
I love you Carrie, I’m having a rough day but watching your videos soothes my soul and gives me a massive dose of inspiration and motivation (much needed today). ❤️
Love to hear you talk about this topic Carrie! My husband & I will be debt free in 1 month and can't wait...we've spent about 1.5 years paying off about 25k (rewarded ourselves with some trips in that time also 🙊). You are so right that it's a "freeing" feeling, and I love encouraging people to do the same! Much love!
I think you're such an inspiring person, every time I watch your videos I feel so refreshed and I just want to work on getting my life together! Thank you for being a source of positivity as I try to find my way through my mid 20s. I wish you years full of growth and prosperity 💕
I really liked this video. I found that the best ways my hubby and I saved a lot of money was when we tracked our expenses. We were able to see where every cent was going and then used that to start cutting expenses and saved a lot of money. Plus another thing that saved us a ton of money was meal planning. Hope this helps. I love sharing tips to help save both time & money!
I got a budget book from michaels for 2$ that fits in my bag and everytime i spend any $ I write it down and save all my tips (which arent big I work at sbux) and ive prolly saved throughout the year (starting from starving and 0$) 1200$ ! Huge difference in my budgeting and Im 20 paying off debt and living on my own( 1 roommate) ,without any help , in LA
My primary luxury is going to the movies. I probably go to the movies once a week, spending 15 dollars or so per trip with a ticket and a snack. Some people might think spending 60 dollars a month on going to the movies is excessive, but to me it's well worth it. I go to a little local movie theater near me and for whatever reason the experience gives me a lot of joy. More than eating out, more than getting coffee, more than buying random clothes or other stuff which I do very infrequently. I would really miss going to the movies as a part of my life if I gave it up, and I still save at least 20 of my income every month, so it's not something I feel pressed to give up. You just have to negotiate what luxuries are actually giving you true joy, and which ones you could do without.
Have you checked your local theaters to see if they offer a movie pass option? AMC has one. They offer this in my area. You pay a fee every month for unlimited or around 3 movies a week. Just thought I'd share!
I can relate 100% to the feelings about debt. There’s always temptation to save the money or blow it to something you need, like, ASAP (but not really). I’m now trying my best to save and simultaneously pay off debt. Actively looking for a part time job since I’m feeling confident about my full time one. Would like to find out more about investing, if you have some experience with it. This topic to me keeps being rather mysterious even though I know the basics.
What are your thought on saving when you’re a student? I’m at uni and my parents usually say that I shouldn’t be worrying about saving right now, but I still want to learn more and be better at budgeting... I find finance and numbers so incredibly abstract and confusing so any tips are very welcome! More videos please, help me 😅🙏🏻
This is an excellent video. I think you should make more similar videos because you advice is helpful. I paid off my mortgage in 2017 and started paying into a pension in 2019. I don't have any debt. I wish to stay that way.
Love this video Carrie! As a recent college grad, suddenly having student loan debt and new responsibilities like rent, car payments etc makes saving really difficult. Would love to see a video about how to make money on RUclips/making money through side hustles!
I use to go to Wawa and buy coffee 2x a day. I never drank coffee ☕️ but I started drinking it from working at a motel. Now I get coffee for free at work
This was very relatable. I really really enjoyed this video. It’s nice to hear someone your age has money struggles and how they turned it around! Thank you Carrie!
I need to work on my budgeting. I had finally paid off my credit card last year and I've been keeping up and paying my current cc bills in full but I don't have extra money at the end of the month. I want to save up for my own place and I want a years rent saved up before I move!
Oh my goodness, so I found your video and let me just tell you what you made me realize! So I am currently moving back into my parents for a few months to pay off some debt and save because I am going to be moving to LA. I was just thinking that I know I'll have to pay a fee but once I'm there I should probably just turn in my car lease. Especially since I am going to live Downtown I won't really have a use for it and I'll just be paying $350 a month for it to sit
Love this!!! Dave Ramsey saved me when I was young. Learning about compound interest was life changing. Life. Changing. Very positive video that most can relate to!
Thank you for getting straight to the points. I loved that about the video. I’m going to be debt free this week and I will always watch financial videos. I just get so excited about financial freedom and abundance more than material abundance now.
As a homeless disabled woman dying from end stage non-alcoholic liver disease/cirrhosis and suffering from hepatic encephalopathy, I won’t be able to work much longer because of our situation and still increasing in medical debt and yet whose husband already is working three jobs and who both families have kicked us out after we went to them for help after losing our home. Note we did look into shelters and so called “churches” and we don’t qualify and we’re abused by them. So those are no-go and yes we did move to less expensive states to try to find cheaper living and still homeless. Any advice for someone in this particular situation - we’d be grateful.
This is JUST what I needed. Also, I was a little inspired to do a little makeup on the side. I’ve been asked a number of times but I‘ve been too scared for dead it’ll be disappointing to a friend/client. I need to practice. Thank you for the video!
I would agree with your view of debt for consumer debt. However, where I would disagree for real estate debt. If you can invest some of the extra money, that will usually be higher than the interest cost. That being said, I still pay extra on my mortgage each month just to shorten the time of the loan.
Hi Carrie! Thanks so much for diving into this topic.. finance has been a huge interest of mine lately as well and a sort of personal goal for 2019. I bought 2 finance-related books at the beginning of the year that I think you might like! 1. Bad with Money by Gaby Dunn 2. You are a Badass at Making Money by Jen Sincero Again, I’d love it if you went into a series with finance! Maybe something with how to build credit, monthly budgeting, how to go on a money-diet sort of thing... etc etc lmao. You have such a warm, inviting, and trusting demeanor.. it’s easy to take tips and advice from you! Thank you for the time you put into your videos! They are all so enjoyable to watch. ❤️
Such a great video. I’ve learned the hard way when it comes to money. But now, I’m really focused on becoming a homeowner and paying off student loans. Would love to see more videos like this and would love to hear more on your podcast!
This was so helpful! I am currently struggling to pay more off on my student loan but am still committed to pay more than the minimum required. Other than that, I always pay my cards in full so that it doesn’t build up. Thank you for posting this! 💖💖💖
This is one of my biggest ones I work in a coffee shop I have free, coffee shop quality coffee for 10 hours a day 5 days a week And yet after work? I MEET PEOPLE FOR COFFEE On my days off? I MEET PEOPLE FOR COFFEE!
Yes to more financial videos! I know you said you just sold your car but I'm really interested in purchasing one (as a college student) but I have no idea where to start. A video on that would be super helpful.
Loved this video! I really liked your advice on creating financial goals + a nest egg. Yes please, more videos like this! 💗💗💗 Would love to hear how you deal with money now that you are getting married, like will you and your fiancé be merging your incomes or keep things separate and why? xxx
I love this! Thanks for posting. I love that I can relate to early 20s Carrie, living alone, and Carrie today. I'd watch more content like this :) great job!
Makes perfect sense to just pay off your debt instead of saving. It doesnt make sense to worry about the interest you grow in your savings if interest is growing on your debt
I thought this was a great video! I am 29, and my only debts are our mortgage, and the car loan. It’s tough because we’ve saved up quite a bit, but I’m torn between paying a big chunk towards the car loan or fixing up the house. It’s tough because being a RUclipsr as well, and a mom of four, I want the house to look nice. But if I don’t throw some huge lumps at this car alone it’s going to take forever to pay it off 🙈. Oh the choices!
This video was incredibly helpful. I watch a lot of financial videos, but I definitely got the most out of this one. Also, what was your small business? I don't think I knew you had one!
Yes, when you have a "nest egg," definitely think about making that money grow. No, do NOT go to your friendly neighborhood bank (e.g., B of A, Wells Fargo, Chase, etc.) because they will not provide the best investment opportunities. For instance, I love how Chase offers a whopping 1.75% on a 9-month CD...and it's got all sorts of rules and fees attached to it. Just go to an online bank such as Synchrony or Wealthfront and they'll offer a regular savings account (no minimums, no silly rules, and you won't have your money tied up for months and months) and you'll get well over 2.00% on your cash. Stay away from brick and mortar banks!
Thanks for this video about money, I hope you will do more of these because it is a very hard topic for me, and I enjoy looking at videos that can teach me good tips! Bye Sweet Carrie 😘
Thank you for ur advice
I started doing 25.00 a month into my savings account. It's little but it adds up.
love how we all start somewhere.
Baby steps you’re your best.keep going.
I have been spending wayyy too much money on things I most definitely don’t need over the past three or so months and I know it’s because life’s been a little difficult lately and I use it as a means to kind of make me feel something positive which is saaad, haha. Agreed! I’m on my debt free journey after hearing the audio book!
This book TOTALLY changed my life. I probably wouldn't have my RUclips channel if I hadn't read it! It began my journey of the UNIQUE MONTHLY WRITTEN BUDGET! So inspiring.
Loved the “rethink your luxuries” concept. Something I really want to start incorporating in my lifestyle. Thank you!
its so true. A luxury is being able to invest in experiences not just things to impress other people we don't know.
So glad you’ve made all these amazing changes! I’ve started to rethink my purpose and bad money management has no place in it. I’ve become a little frugal and appreciate and have gratitude for the small things.

It's super important to build your credit score though! Not having a credit score can really limit your options

I'm in the same boat! I owe $85,000. I went to school part time over 7 years and the interest added over 7 years has really put me in major debt. 😢😭
Please more about finances😍😍 I really really like this topic, Thats why I always watch the financial diet☺️ I would really enjoy hearing more about that from you, it‘s so motivating☺️

Love this video Carrie! As a recent college grad, suddenly having student loan debt and new responsibilities like rent, car payments etc makes saving really difficult. Would love to see a video about how to make money on RUclips/making money through side hustles!
I AM SO EXCITED FOR THE PODCAST AHHHH! Been looking for a new oneeee🙆🏻♀️
Thank you Carrie!
you really changed the way I live my life. thank you carrie
I need to work on my budgeting. I had finally paid off my credit card last year and I've been keeping up and paying my current cc bills in full but I don't have extra money at the end of the month. I want to save up for my own place and I want a years rent saved up before I move!
Your videos are so helpful! I wait to see your videos every week! So inspirational! ❤️
Found this very relatable! I’d love to hear more about finances, etc!
Love this!!! Dave Ramsey saved me when I was young. Learning about compound interest was life changing. Life. Changing. Very positive video that most can relate to!
Would love to see a video on different types of credit cards that save you money, investing, etc!
Dave Ramsey and the budget mom are awesome resources
1. Bad with Money by Gaby Dunn
2. You are a Badass at Making Money by Jen Sincero
Again, I’d love it if you went into a series with finance!
Thank you so much for this! I used to use mint and totally forgot! And now with a baby on the way seeing where our money goes will help.
Thanks for sharing this information! Very inspirational!
carrie's aesthetic really inspires my channel
This is one of my biggest ones
I work in a coffee shop
I have free, coffee shop quality coffee for 10 hours a day 5 days a week

On my days off? I MEET PEOPLE FOR COFFEE!
Yes to more financial videos! I know you said you just sold your car but I'm really interested in purchasing one (as a college student) but I have no idea where to start. A video on that would be super helpful.
Man I was soo happy when the audio and visual caught Up to each other🤗,Good video🤙🌺
Thankyou Carrie. This is amazing and exactly the information/expansion I needed at this moment 💜💜
I would love to see more videos like these!!!! ♥️
This video was incredibly helpful. I watch a lot of financial videos, but I definitely got the most out of this one. Also, what was your small business? I don't think I knew you had one!
Great video Carrie. Thanks for all the info, apps, and tips! Oh, BTW that chair makes you look like you have golden angel wings :)
MORE OF THIS!!!! Love this video SO much.
Sooooo needed this 🤑
Jessica Cunningham hello

I have over $50K in debt but I pay no Interest. Is that OK? I prefer to buy more assets with the cash.

Super inspiring, def needed to see this. Can you share some tips/ideas about coming up with more creative ways to make money on the side ?

Thank you Carrie ! Really liked this content:)
Eeee I can't wait for your podcast!!!
This was super helpful and what I needed to hear right now! Thanks so much for sharing 💕
Loved this video!! I’ve been using Mint for a couple years now and I love it too! I’m a money nerd, I love saving as weird as that sounds 🤓
This is exactly what I needed thanks. you get no peace if you are in debt
I loved this video! One of my favorite of yours
Thank you 🙏🏽 great video❤️
could you be more specific about how you paid off your student loan debt?
Love your videos!! 💛
Very inspirational.. Thank you!
Does anyone know if there is an equivalent to MINT in the UK? thanks x
For sure more like this. Working on this in my life.
Always consider your Future Self.
Thank you so much for this real money talk!! Would love for more ways and ideas to actually make money❤️
Ohj Carrie iam really miss you
I wanna to see your videos every day
Question: save or pay off debt first? I'm trying to do the at the same time but then I Dont know how to split my paycheck.
Debt first
Thanks for this video Carrie!!!
Thank you for this video!
Thanks for this video about money, I hope you will do more of these because it is a very hard topic for me, and I enjoy looking at videos that can teach me good tips! Bye Sweet Carrie 😘
