Just be sure you cover everything, alcohol ink stains, and it your grandkids are anything like mine, it will end up everywhere. They will love it though, and perfect project they can turn into Christmas gifts. :-)
Looks like fun! I've been practicing this technique on foam core board but I just got a whole bunch of tiles FREE, so am going to experiment. I hope this is fairly non-toxic. Thanks!
I was going to make some trivets using this method. I bought some resin, but I'm kind of afraid to use that. What would you recommend as a sealer that will survive when you place a hot pot on top of it?
How many tiles will 1 can of the Kamar do, do you think? I am considering doing this with my Guides (like Girl Scouts) [an adult will do the fire bit] and need to price up the sealant to see if it will be within budget.
My project started out great, got some really cool designs. But, as the alcohol dried, the sharpie marker ink broke down in flakes and the design disappeared. Any thoughts?
When you used the Modge Podge to finish the seal, did you spray it first, then let it dry and used the Modge Podge? Or did you just let the Alcohol dry and went straight in with the Modge Podge?
You can use a heat gun to dry, keeping in mind it will move the alcohol around a bit. This is not a bad thing however, as I have had some gorgeous effects from the movement of the drying alcohol.
Same issue! I used 91% alcohol and everything, tried multiple times… wondering what went wrong?! This is so depressing because I was really looking forward to this project!!! 😩
From what I've researched, it might even be better - others say the alcohol must be at least 91%. One nice thing is, if it doesn't work, you can wipe it down with alcohol and start over again.
Yes, you can use glass but be sure it is a thicker glass and not a thinner glass, which can break easily with repeated use. I would use glass tiles and not a thinner plate glass for picture frames, etc.
The grandkids are staying the night this weekend and we’re SO making the second and third ones! Can’t wait!!

Salmonde - Crafts - Food - Life I have a newspaper end roll and crafting clothes for the kiddles. Thanks so much! ~Antinia~
Love your ideas, I will try these ideas with my grand kids.
Love this, best way to decorate a tile I’ve seen. Have some I want to do. Thank you
This looks fun 🤩
I like the way they looked before you sprayed them with alcohol

Wonderful thank you
Hi! Can I use the high gloss instead of the matte to finish the tiles with? Thank you so much!
Yes of course!
Thank you for the tutorial! We are doing a Percy Jackson themed Girl Scout Camporee and our troop chose Hephaestus, God of Fire!
Gorgeous!! Thanks for sharing😊💖
Hi!! Did you ever make a video on how to not get the line marks with the modge podge?? I love your coasters!!
Love these will have to try this one
What's your technique for getting it so clean and glossy without brush marks?
Thank you!
Do you use both the Varnish and Polkyurethane on the same tile?

How soon after 'firing' the tile do you add the Karma varnish?
an open fire on wood is crazyyyyyy
These are so much fun!
Thanks, they are fun. Great project for kiddos as well (except the fire part)
Can you just use the modge podge to seal it?
Thanks, neat ideas!

i have some ceramic tiles that say they are "unglazed" does that matter?
My project started out great, got some really cool designs. But, as the alcohol dried, the sharpie marker ink broke down in flakes and the design disappeared. Any thoughts?
Can you use these tiles in other applications, like broken up for a backsplash
As long as your sealer will work for your desired application, then yes, thou could.
What about the side edges. Do you use the marker on the sides to finish them off or are they just bare?
Hi, so pretty, can that be done on canvas,? Thank you🙏👍
Hi! Does connectors/ normal markers work instead of sharpies?
Can I use alcohol markers instead of sharpies?
Is there a specific sharpie that should be used?
No, any alcohol based marker will work for this.
Wow!!! These are beautiful 😍
How long before they can be moved without the alcohol moving around?
The alcohol dries very quickly so it will not be too long at all.
How do you use the polycrylic
Freakin fantastic!!!!!!❤💜💙
thank you. :-)
When you used the Modge Podge to finish the seal, did you spray it first, then let it dry and used the Modge Podge? Or did you just let the Alcohol dry and went straight in with the Modge Podge?
Chelsea DePassio she sprayed it with the alcohol, let it dry. And after it was dry she coated it with some mod Podge
Does it have to be 91 or 100% alchohol I cant seem to find any above 75%
Did she say she used all 3 sealants or just the first 2?
When I tried this, my sharpies left flakes on it, is there a reason why?
We made these in school
Hello, do you use matte Kamar or the semi-gloss or gloss?
It has a matte finish.
can you use water instead of alcohol?
No, the inks are alcohol based so water will now dilute them like this. They will just wash away.
Does it have be sharpies or will marks a lots work?

Hi! nice little project, but what about health and safety procedures! Working on a refractory surface is certainly safer. 🔥
Where do you get the 91% alcohol. I am in Australia can only find 64% and it doesn’t work. Asked at chemist hot third degree about why I wanted it.
I got mine at Target in the Health and Beauty area.
mine didn't light on fire. do you know why?
Same issue! I used 91% alcohol and everything, tried multiple times… wondering what went wrong?! This is so depressing because I was really looking forward to this project!!! 😩
can you wash them after you do this?
Yes, they can be handwashed, just not soaked or put in the dishwasher.
does the fire seal the marker?
No, it just gives it a different look because of the way the alcohol burns off. You will still need to seal it.
Do you think this can be done without the fire?
Yes, it can be done without the fire, but it won't have quite the same look. It sill comes out really cool though.
Will 99% alcohol work?
From what I've researched, it might even be better - others say the alcohol must be at least 91%. One nice thing is, if it doesn't work, you can wipe it down with alcohol and start over again.

you don't have to lite it on fire just let it dry for 24 hours
No, you don't have to light it on fire, but burning it gives it a different look that you will get if you let it dry. It's just a different technique.
