My essential gear for making commercials at home features everything you need to create cinematic, professional looking results on a budget. In this video we take a deep dive into why you need to get this to film epic product commercials at home - The Lazy Susan, or electronic turntable, for creating sexy rotating product commercials.
We all think that you need high end gear, kit that costs thousands. Well you don't. This video, along with the playlist I have created on how to shoot and edit product commercials proves that even on a budget, even when just shooting from kitchen or living room, you too can create an epic product commercial at home.
Stick around for the second half of the video, where I create camera moves inside editing, which for me is inside Premiere Pro, but this can be in Final Cut or almost any editing software that allows for keyframes.
Showing how you can shoot product commercials with a look into behind the scenes will hopefully inspire you to get your camera out and start shooting.
If you are keen to use similar equipment to what I have shown, all my gear is listed below.

Check out my most recent upload - a real client commercial. It's a HOT one ruclips.net/video/zeWMAI464o8/видео.html
Dude this is such a killer video the qaulity is insane and the way you introduce the product is awesome keep it up man! Bug things are coming!
Wow, thanks Austen. From one of the creators I look up to, this means a lot 👍
The pacing, the editing, background music, explanation, your communication/teaching skills.. Amazing! Keep it up 👍
This video is sooooo legit! Well created, well produced, well edited and more. Don’t give up on the channel dude. You’re small now but keep going because you already have just as great if not better quality than the big channels in the millions.
the most productive 6 minutes. No fluff. Great stuff. Well done
This is such an underrated video, well done my man
Not only is this video incredibly shot, interesting, just a joy to behold all the way through - it's immensely helpful - I already have a spinning turntable but after watching this video I realised I'm only using it to 1% of its potential, thanks man, you've got a new fan (and subscriber).
Got recommended on RUclips, loved this! From the classic British humour, to the ideas and awesome, snappy editing. Nice work!
If you liked this video and want to see another one that I put quite a bit of effort in, just to create a bit of a different beer commercial from what you may have already seen, then check this one out! ruclips.net/video/89PDHrGMx-Q/видео.html
So, what lens are you using for this product shots???
@@LeoArmenta It will probably have been my 100mm macro from Canon. Without doubt my most used lens!
@@JamesKellyStudio excelent mi friend!!!
The editing on this is actually insane, instant subscriber
Thank you, and welcome aboard 👍
This is the best video I’ve seen on RUclips. Awesome one! 👊👊
Well I know about the lazy suzan BUUUUTTTT, yoh, you've done an awesome work explaining it all over again. Great voice. Great video. Great editing. Great everything. Hands down!!!!!
New sub right here bro!!
This is really cool! Great work James!
I love this video. Great videography and clear explanation ! 😍
Amazing video James! Keep em coming😍
James Mate, I think you've outdone yourself with this one. Really love the energetic explanation!
Thanks Marcel. I'll keep the energy levels high for all future videos 👍
Mate! I swear you've turned a review of a fairly mundane piece of kit into a cinematic masterpiece. This is work of a real high level and so engaging from start to finish as well as helpful and yeh you're right I have one of these and they're so good for product shots but adding in those scale. position and rotation key frames gives them another dimension. Love it mate, can;t wait to see the next one.
Wow, thanks Pav! I guess it is just a rotating bit of plastic 😂 Guess I should look through my kit and look for an even more mundane it of gear and try to work that into something cool. Tripod heads arent very exciting are they? Maybe that will be next 😉
@@JamesKellyStudio haha seriously thought the way you explain things with great b-roll and the crispy Voiceover takes me into a trance like when I'm watching animal planet or something 🤣. Tripod head again very mundane but very important so yeh why not mate 👍
@@pavguliani Ahhh cheers, good to know I'm doing something right. Challenge accepted. I can make it more like animal planet if you like and get my two sausage dogs involved 😂
Appreciate your help!

Just got into leatherworking and need a good way to document my items for personal recordkeeping, but also potentially for an e-commerce website going forward. This video is so great! Wooooow all my admiration from Spain, your channel is something of the best i watched related to filmmaking. Keep on vanguard!!
Incredible video dude I'm blown away
Thank you 😊
Great...brilliant...clear and concise. Really appreciate your contributions!
BTW, this triggered a crazy diff take. I was just making a semi manual detented lazy shushan (see Johnny English Reborn) so that I could get some really wild resolution...connecting with Premiere which previously was part of my day job ie editing and realise wih the high res, I can get some really tight macro capability ie @ 2 degrees per frame
Greetz from Sydney
This is crazy good!
Awesome narration and the killer bg music! well done!
Great video James!

Thank you. For something quite boring, it certainly is getting some good feedback. This was supposed to be part of an ongoing playlist so I really need to get more like this created.

You got me hooked. Subscribed.
Welcome my friend 👍
This is definitely such a need! Unfortunately the one liked is no longer available but there are still a ton available online. Also thank you doing a breakdown of your work flow, this is exactly what I was hoping for!
Yeah there's loads out there, just make sure to get one that keeps rotating and not just one rotation back and forth. My link works for me, still in stock, but loads to choose from as you said. Enjoyed making this one and always want to include a breakdown as if I was a viewer I'd want as much info as possible 😉
Love it man...great one!
Thank you 🙏
I am doing this for a client soon and your video popped up. Thank you for the super simple 6 min video. Other youtubers make this so overly complicated for no reason. Thank you again my dude.
No problem, glad it helped out. Good luck with the client shoot 👍
@@JamesKellyStudio binging your videos at work right now haha and thank you!
@@Rcmathis haha enjoy 😉 There’ll be something good coming soon too 👍
@@JamesKellyStudio I wanna see that studio 👀 if you got an IG with some photos of it I would love to see it!
@@Rcmathis nothing on there yet as I promised to create a video for the guys who built it, but will certainly share it on my Instagram once done. Just takes more time than I imagined to make the space mine with art and furniture
Dude! Came across your channel today and i'm truly inspired. Thank you! I like how you just use normal household items to help you achieve the look! Keep up the good work!
You wanted us to ask you some questions. So here goes.. Would you please do a video on greenscreens and would you ever use them for your product videos and if possible please share your color profile use use on your camera and if possible the equivalent to that of Sony. Thanks man!
Hi Gerhard, thanks for the comments. Creating in such a small space with the wife checking all my Amazon deliveries means I have to get creative 😂 Yeah I would totally use a green screen for some situations. I probably will in the future. At the moment I'm cheating a lot of my work by using my computer monitor as my background as I get to include company branding and styling to the shot without having to key out any green screen. Has its limits though! Asfor my camera profile, well I'm on an older Canon body - 1Dx mkii, and this means I need to create a custom profile which takes all sharpness out and reduces the contrast and saturation. As you're a Sony shooter you probably have access to better built in profiles to use? Biggest tip I can give is to try get rid of any sharpness. I prefer to add that in post rather than the camera, it always looks too much on the eyes otherwise.
Fantástic video!!!!!!! Thanks for sharing!!!!!!
Thanks for watching!
Your Explanation are AWESOME.. NEW SUBS
what a video..Thank you
Awesome. Thanks for sharing this..
My pleasure! I hope you go and try out a lazy susan for your videos
