A big shout out to Australia and her people. I ligit grew up on this and loved it and the theme song. I’ve always wanted to go to down under. Hell I’d live there. Much love from Florida, US.
My wife watched this from the very first episode and has recently just stopped watching it she said it’s not as good as it once was but her fav was always Alf
Home and Away... Bea Smith, Alf Stewart, Celia Stewart, Ailsa Stewart, Rita Connors, Myra Desmond, Morag Bellingham, Pippa Fletcher/Ross, Michael Ross, Tom Fletcher, Reb Kean... The list goes on...
Home and away vs Neighbours....and im not even Australian.. Long live the 80s...if you were not there you wouldn't understand, THE PRIVILEGE!!...wow ,time flies
As a foreigner from the USA visiting Australia for the first time in 2008, I became addicted to this series. Have been a steady viewer for the past seven years and love my weekly visits with the characters of Summer Bay and the beautiful scenery.
I've lived in Australia my whole life and I could safely say I've never sat through a full episode of this OR Neighbour's, but this song is so good. Still happy to give them a shot.
Sadly they didn't. Newer versions of this theme song replaced the previous versions over the years and a number of verses were gradually cut back over the years due to time restrictions on Seven Network.
I was born the same year this show started and started watching it after school when I was 15-19. Good memories! Australia clearly made the best soap opera!
Ahhhhhhh!!! MEMORIES! MEMORIES! MEMORIES!! I know this song word for word. I would rush home from school and wait with bated breath just to sing along with the theme song. This era is the best era to have lived in......I thought life world always be like this.... world of love, romance, suspense, heartbreak, joy, sadness and then comes happiness. Sigh!!! I love it❤😊❤
All of my children will tell you that this song was their lullaby as babies. For some reason in the middle of the night it was the only song that I could remember all of the words too and it always gave them comfort when I sang it and they always went to sleep. Now my kids are 17, 15, 13 & 11 years old and obviously they watch "Home & Away" with me but still think in their heads that it's their lullaby as the lyrics are relevant to them. #TrueStory
I always picture myself on holiday at one of the holiday parks across the south of England whenever I listen to this song, it has such a great holiday feel to it in my opinion....
I’m so glad we had neighbours and home and away growing up. Something light hearted (sometimes heavy) and just something consistent for my brother and I to watch after school ❤ wish there was still something like this these days. Now it’s all RUclips and Netflix - which I’m sure will also get old one day too x
I was never the biggest fan of Home And Away growing up, but since I'm currently recovering from COVID, the theme song has randomly popped in and out of my head at various points. I've given the song a few listens and I have to say, divorced from the fact that it's the theme for a soapie, this first rendition in particular is surprisingly beautiful.
used to watch this when i was at uni in UK 1988-1991. loved the song. heard it today in 2016 since that time and I could sing along perfectly! great theme
Insanely good for an Aussie soap theme. I really liked H&A back in the 90s but the theme today definitely has that 80s/90s ballad duet feel about it. Thanks for uploading this.
I'm a 24-year-old male who doesn't watch the show but simply loves this song. Product of the '80s, I suppose. I remember downloading this off Kazaa about twelve years ago. Classic stuff.
What a wonderful video. Not only does it bring back happy memories for me of watching Home & Away in the UK back in the 1980s, it’s a throw-back to the days when TV programmes were true works of art. Great content, bookended with decent theme tunes to create an overall terrific viewing experience. Unlike today - with bland TV themes (if at all) with equally bland programme content…!

Do you know the backstory of Home and Away right where they filmed it they didn’t want to have a foster home and that really is touching because I used to be a foster child and it’s really sad 😢 After the Seven Network cancelled their soap opera Neighbours on 12 July 1985 due to low ratings, rival Network 10 picked it up and turned it into a success.[1] A couple of years later, Seven's head of drama, Alan Bateman, became desperate to get back into the soap market and began to work out how to launch another soap that was not a copy of Neighbours.[2] While on a trip to Kangaroo Point, New South Wales with his family, Bateman began talking to locals who were "up in arms" over the construction of a foster home for children from the city.

The male vocalist is Mark Williams… a star in his own right with ‘show no mercy’ and now also the frontman for iconic Australian band Dragon since 2005
I love the whole song, and loved watching Home and Away growing up, but I especially like the bit towards the end from 3:21 onwards, which was often used during the programme. So many happy memories.
Used to be a good show in the 80s and 90s - enjoyable for all the family. Now it is aimed at teens mainly. Bit of a shame. Previously, we watched it as kids, my parents watched it and my grandparents watched it.
When I was a little kid, whenever I heard the hold me in your arms line, I used to run to my mum for a hug. I'd give anything for one more hug with you, Mama
This song gives my age away. Those were the good old days. Im glad that I am an 80's born kid😎
❤🎉 The best years
I loved this show as a kid
I never watched the show but remember this song fondly from when I was very young living at my grandparents house
In Jamaica we use to watch this in the 80s as a child we watched this in the evening.
They should do a reggae cover version.....🎉
I randomly stumbled upon this video and I remembered they used to play this soap in jamaica when I was a kid. Memory unlocked.
Who is feeling nostalgic during this quarantine period...I was only 12years....old is gold lots of love from Kenya

Such a beautiful classic song Home and away was better back then than today .
Why did this show pop back in my head? I miss my youth.

The woman singing this song has such a beautiful pure voice
Karen Boddington
A big shout out to Australia and her people. I ligit grew up on this and loved it and the theme song. I’ve always wanted to go to down under. Hell I’d live there. Much love from Florida, US.
Thank you 👍
Growing up in Kenya, this was one of the most popular foreign family TV shows. It gave us a glimpse of Australian life in general. Loved it!

This song just came to mind and I decided to search for it, glad I did. Aww, how I miss those days😌
Clearly one of the best theme songs of all time!!

@@kaptainkassanis yep

My wife watched this from the very first episode and has recently just stopped watching it she said it’s not as good as it once was but her fav was always Alf
Shiiiiiit, never realised how beautiful this song is until now!
same here, haha...
Its not the best version imo, the female parts should be sung by the male vocalist
yeah i hated it because the show was shit but now i'm hearing it now it's really good i'm singing it when i'm drunk now
Home and Away... Bea Smith, Alf Stewart, Celia Stewart, Ailsa Stewart, Rita Connors, Myra Desmond, Morag Bellingham, Pippa Fletcher/Ross, Michael Ross, Tom Fletcher, Reb Kean... The list goes on...
Wow soundtrack to my childhood, my sister and I never missed an episode ....90’s in Soshanguve, Pretoria ... South African 🇿🇦
This original will never die. What a duet!!!
Who else thinks this song is way too good for a soap opera??!
I do, it fits in well.
Agreed!
Dude, it's a classic from an era of classics! 😄👌👌🤘
Sexy sax too! 🤣🤘🤘
Me
one of the best TV theme songs ever - bring it back!
Home and away vs Neighbours....and im not even Australian.. Long live the 80s...if you were not there you wouldn't understand, THE PRIVILEGE!!...wow ,time flies
Growing up in Zimbabwe,I enjoyed this show so much.I loved the theme song. Its a beautiful song.
I remember watching the first ever episode as a child ...this song is magic. Neighbours and home and away were massive in the UK.
A big fight over what to watch
Yes big in the UK
That's why they were always at different times here in Australia
Haven’t heard this for 20 years and still know the words
I love home and away songs it my favourite song and TV shows as well
Awww Memories come flooding back miss these days

When are you coming back,Bro? I'll get Alf to put the kettle on for ya!
Don't forget a tour of that epic dungeon he's made since the guy was last here!
Imagine if Trump went to Summer Bay.
"I like Marilyn Chambers, her tits are yuge!"
Pokémon Trainer Elio lol
Palmer would probably smack him one lol
Flash back to when I 8yrs old there 😂😂😂😂
I love male and female duets... this is one of the best.
This is one of those songs that gets BUILT into your brain
Definitely singing this to my wife on our wedding day
Cringe.
Nothing cringer than saying cringe to people you don't know @@brelshar4968

@Gcello22 you Aussies have better soaps than us Pommies do. My favourites are Prisoner Cell Block H and Sons And Daughters
80s music is the best
The 80s 90s and 00s was the best years for soaps even in UK and Australia too
The Home and Away I remember, born 1980 shows my age but this classic brings back Good memory's 😘😘
Growing up in jamaica this was one of my favorite british tv show but "chronicles of narnia" was my favorite...
British lol
Australian bro
I loved watching Home and Away and Neighbours when I was in England.
I never realised just how good a vocalist the female singer is .....💯
I loved this version they should have kept it
Sadly they didn't. Newer versions of this theme song replaced the previous versions over the years and a number of verses were gradually cut back over the years due to time restrictions on Seven Network.
And now it hasn’t had a song for years.
@@forsakenoutcast it just says "closer each day, home and away" I miss this version 🥺
Yes
even though I wasn't around yet for this one, I still remember it as the one I heard on the tv when I was little
I love the way she sings "need you here" on the second verse, it sounds beautiful

Nice. If I was trying to soothe a baby, I'd cop out and settle for Country Practice or Hill Street Blues themes!
love that x
My nan sang this to me as a kid. She still watches it!
So sweet
This has to be the aussiest thing I've ever read! Love it! ❤️
even for those who aren't very much acquainted with the tv series, this song gives you nostalgic feelings of life itself.
Completely agree!
This brings back childhood memories!
This and 1995 theme are my two favourites! Karen Boddington such a good singer
I always picture myself on holiday at one of the holiday parks across the south of England whenever I listen to this song, it has such a great holiday feel to it in my opinion....
When i lived in London, i watch Home and Away as well as Neighbours
i also did watch both but Neighbours was not as good, home and Away was much better
Happy 35th birthday to this amazing soap opera... 😎 🎂🎁🎉🎊

First watched this when I was at Primary School and have never fallen out of love with it. Some great memories of H&A growing up
Beautiful Song
We watched this growing up in a small town in India! Bring so many memories back 🙏
This is actually a beautiful song!
I remember this when I used to come home from school in the late 80s
I hated the programme, but this was possibly the best TV theme tune ever. Used to hear it when parents watched. Loved it!
One of the best theme tunes of all time
No not one of the best, The Best
Memories are made of this , growing up in the 90's
Sung by legendary New Zealand singer Mark Williams and Karen Boddington from Australia😊
used to watch this when i was at uni in UK 1988-1991. loved the song. heard it today in 2016 since that time and I could sing along perfectly! great theme
Don't know how you make that out seeing that Home and Away didn't start in the UK until 1989
Insanely good for an Aussie soap theme. I really liked H&A back in the 90s but the theme today definitely has that 80s/90s ballad duet feel about it. Thanks for uploading this.

I grew up to this theme ahhh memories.👍
I spent my youth from 2000 to 2009 in Brisvegas
Home and away was great
Thank you for being such a good friend to me
This show should have been shown in South Korea... It could be a hit and BTS could cover this song!
They played BTS on a recent episode of Home and Away
It watched all.the series when I was in jamaica those were the good days
I can still sing it woow sweet old days
Never saw a full episode, but I know this song by heart. Absolute fire!
Love this theme sad they don’t play the theme at start anymore :(
Wow, pure nostalgia right here.

THIS IS GOING TO BE MY WEDDING SONG!!!
It does make a good wedding song.
good choice
have ya gotten married yet?
Are you now married and if yes did you use the song?
I imagine his wife bolted when she heard that suggestion.
I always preferred Neighbours when growing up but this has the best theme song 💛
I used to watch this all the time, back in the late 80s I was in love with Nicole Dickson, who played Bobby.
Bobby was a fabulous character, she was Edith Piaf with an Australian accent.
Bobby will always with Sally be my favourites on home&away. I was so upset when Bobby was killed off.
She came back as a ghost for 2 eps unwittingly scaring the bejesus out of Ailsa (who had been taking expire meds)
Hulk2k6 Her face came out from the door of Ailsa's fridge. I remember that. 😊
I had a crush on Nicole Dickson when I was a kid.
This reminds me of someone. Under the sunrise, we sang this song together.
I MISS HOME AND AWAY :)
You know we belong together
You & I forever and ever
No matter where you are
You're my guiding star
And from the very first moment I saw you
I never felt such emotion
I'm walking on air
Just to know (Just to know)
You are there (You are there)
Hold me in your arms
Don't let me go (I wanna stay forever)
Home and away
With you each day
Let me be the one that you turn to (Someone you can rely on)
Closer each day
Home and away
You we belong together
You & I forever and ever
Until the end of time
I'm yours and you are mine
Oooooo I couldn't spend another minute
Living my life without you in it
It's suddenly clear
I will always (I will always)
Need you here (need you here)
Hold me in your arms
Don't let me go (I wanna stay forever)
Home and away
With you each day
Let me be the one that you turn to (Someone you can rely on)
Closer each day
Home and away
You know we belong together
(You & I forever and ever)
You know we belong together....
I want to stay forever
Home and away
With you each day
(Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...)
Someone you can rely on
Closer each day
Home and away
You know we belong together
