Since people kept asking how I did it, I used a cheat code provided by Suddendesu to have MAME load the English text and the satAM Robotnik sprites. You can open the cheat file with Notepad and remove the Robotnik SatAM sprite cheat to use the English translation while keeping the original Eggman sprite in the game. They're both separate cheats in one file. MAME should have the option to turn on or off a cheat code, but most of the time, It's always turned on, so deleting the cheat code inside the file should do the trick. @@robbiewalker2831

It's such a shame this game didn't get an international release. If they released this with English voice acting, I could see this being a big hit. I mean, sure, it's not a masterpiece, but if I was a kid in the 90s and saw this, I definitely would have poured some quarters into it.

This game ABSOLUTELY deserves an Arcade1up release for sure, especially with the ability to swap between Eggman’s classic and SATAM designs, along with Sonic the Fighters and the Mega Play versions of Sonic 1 & 2 being added so it’s not just one game
Interesting that the English script the localization team made didn't mention the tower in text when it was self-destructing - maybe the Robotnik dialogue when you encounter him in the tower was meant to be simpler in the World and USA releases?
What would be awesome is if someone could Mod the game to include English Voice Acting. Perhaps get some sounds clips of Jaleel White's Sonic voice from Adventures and SatAM and maybe find a impression of of Jim Cumming's Robotnik.

Im not a Sonic fan but this game looks good. Not just for it's time, it almost looks like a modern 2D game. Im not really seeing any particularly unique effects, but the effects that are shown are pulled off very well. In particular, the animation is VERY smooth, which enhances the 3D look. A lot of the effects would be a lot less impressive with fewer frames of animation. Like the bridge falling when you run across - on a home console of the time you would never see so many frames to that animation, and the logs would stand out as flat sprites. But they animate so smoothly here as to convincingly portray depth and almost look like actual 3D objects. I am impressed.
Someone try to get Jim Cummings, and Jaleel White along with a few other voice actors to redub the voiced Japanese dialogue; that way, it’d truly be an english arcade release! I’d like it to be a reunion of sorts-you know, like for old time’s sake. And of course, other voice actors are more than welcome to join in!
It would have to be remade from the ground up. Same goes for Knuckles’ Chaotix. It was supposed to be in Sonic Mega Collection & Gems Collection, but both games were difficult to emulate properly

SatAM Robotnik clashes with the art style like a sore thumb, I much prefer the original, I grew up with this game back in the day playing it at our local arcade.
I highly agree, the fact that this moment at 16:40 is meant for the original (Classic) Eggman video game design, it doesn’t fit with SatAM Robotnik since that version is more menacing and more darker than original video game iteration.
If they ever rerelease this game on modern systems, I hope there is an option to play the english version with the Saturday Morning cartoon, and comic design of Robotnik. The fact those were officially in the game data shows they planned on releasing that game with those designs in America.
Btw here’s a funny thing the game didn’t actually came out in 1992 it’s in 93 but the graphic was left in the game maybe cuz I’m assuming it’s to do with copyright laws in arcades? And maybe there’s probably plenty of Sonic arcade games? (nothing to do with the hedgehog) which was why they put SegaSonic in the title same for popcorn shop
It's a bit of both imo since satAM Robotnik is inside the game but unused, needing cheat codes to replace the original Robotnik with satAM Robotnik and to change the language.
If you want to play this game on an emulator try to play it with analog controller but the gameplay is still difficult to play on a controller too cause sonic run extremely fast and hard to control
@@FRENCHRobloxYTthe Simpsons cabinet had the trackball included for the Simpsons bowling game along with 4 control sticks and buttons for the main game. It could be done. 3 trackballs, and 2 joysticks for both arcade Sonic games. Maybe include the MegaPlay version of Sonic 1&2 as well as a bonus.
The sprites of the SatAM Robotnik were unused in the final version of SegaSonic The Hedgehog and a version of them but with Eggman instead of Robotnim were used in the final game
