SegaSonic Mania Plus is a Mod for Sonic Mania Plus created by Xanman.
SegaSonic Mania brings the style of SegaSonic The Hedgehog to Sonic Mania!
This mod changes the sprites for Sonic, Mighty and Ray, with the addition of changing some music tracks, menu colors, and more!

Decided to return back to this mod just for fun. The thing is though, it seems that the game might randomly crash during some stages, assuming the reason for that is because of the latest version of Mania Plus. Luckily, the stages I tried out here ran just fine.

Not sure where the sprites are from but they look awesome. The mod and animations seem flawless and I like the type of soundtracks that were used such as the rings, extra life, and the clear zone screen; this shows a lot of interest this game brings. Thank you for uploading 💯

The sprites come from the Japan-only arcade game, SegaSonic the Hedgehog.

It's from the Japan only Arcade game, SegaSonic the Hedgehog, which is canonically the 1st game in the franchise. Released in 93, a year after 2, same year as CD, and 1 year before 3. Christmas Island was Sonic, Mighty, and Ray's home Island, until Dr Robotnik shows up, reeks havoc on the island, and captures the 3. The entire game is Sonic, Mighty, and Ray trying to not only break out of the Dr's prison for them, but escape the island before it blows up (why Green Hill is now Sonic's home in future games, Christmas Island... went boom). Before Metal Sonic, Tails, Amy, colorful jewelry, and even Green Hill (at least in canon) came this game. This game would be the starting point for his eternal rivalry with the one he would then call Dr Eggman, before that game he had never met the doctor.

This is pretty cool. Didn't Sonic and Tails have similar looking sprites in the Sonic Crackers special stages? They probably could have used them as a base for Tails

According to The Cutting Room Floor website, they are scrapped animated sprites found within the arcade game's files. I like how they have been repurposed here, it's a nice nod.
