Hahah. She was like "Aw Gale seems nice, sure I'll do some magic with you, cool. Oh. Hmm. Kinda close there Gale."
Little did she know, that was your first date.

I guess it must have been a bug that the game forgot Astarion had told you he was a vampire.
Telling detail/snobbery: When he's listing the animals he drinks from, Kobolds are actually people - they're not usually too bright but they're absolutely sentient and have a culture and stuff. Astarion's had an absolutely terrible time as a vampire and didn't deserve any of it, but he IS also sort of a prick. :P
I think he's honest about intending to just have a small drink in that scene, but he's vastly overestimating his own self-control because he's used to animal blood and/or underestimating how amazing person-blood is gonna taste and how hard it's gonna be to stop.

the level of trust you have for your companions is kind of a lost trait for roleplayers nowadays so I honor that a little bit but yeah, at least you know now that vampires are insatiable.

Thank you, that's a great compliment! But yeah, I like to see how they'll act when given 'autonomy' over their choices, and sometimes it bites me in the ass like it did here lol. Makes the quick save feature really useful!

Oh, Kay 😂😢... Stopping him earlier gives you an advantage. The more time he gets to havex the harder is.

Oh you got that mysterious artifact from Shadowheart. When you dropped her from the party it hopped into your inventory ^^

It took me forever to realize what that was because I figured shadowheart still had it

You could have used Astarion, or whoever, to use a resurrection scroll after he killed you. And then there would be a whole dialogue option to bitch at him for going too far.

Raphael: "And when hope has been whittled down to the very marrow of despair - that's when you'lll come knocking on my door".
Holy sh*t i just realised this is early foreshadowing to you invading his palace and saving Hope.

50:40 - about the running water thing! i'm not super familiar with DnD outside of this game or watching other people's campaigns, but i AM decently familiar with vampire lore, and this bit just happens to be the same in both! in vampire mythology, it's believed that one of the sure-fire ways of killing (or at least greatly injuring) a vampire is by submerging them in running water. others believe that it'd simply paralyse them and make them easier to kill. either way, it comes from medieval beliefs about spirits losing control of their vessels when in contact with running water - i guess vampires, being undead, fall under that!
i must say, outside of how generally interesting and engaging his character and storyline is, the vampirism aspect WAS one of the factors in me wanting to know more about astarion. i love vampires, and it made me so giddy hearing all the little lore tidbits i could recognise. i believe in early access builds they even had a mechanic where astarion would take damage from running water and would separate from the party to find a path around it whenever possible, though it's probably a good thing they took that out (i lose him enough already when he decides not to jump, lmao).
