This has to be the best, beginner level parallax mapping tutorial on RUclips. Clear explanations, excellent tempo and visually pleasing. I hope you'll be making many more tutorials in the future!
i personally like that you left in most of your decorating sequence, most people underestimate how valuable it is to see an example of the "teacher" actually go through the whole thought process on their own instead of a series of before-and-after pictures. And seeing the tutorial maker make minor mistakes and change their mind about things as they work, I think is actually a good example of realistic workflow that people tend to edit out. Then I'll be working and going "everyone else doesn't look like they're having nearly as much trouble with this, what am I doing wrong?"
I just started using rpg maker and these videos have totally opened my eyes to a new world! I was starting to think tile sets were kind of limiting but this adds a whole new layer of complexity and your tutorial is super easy to follow :) ty!
As someone who doesn't know nuts about Photoshop and bought it just to follow this tutorial, simply the act of copying and moving that first rock to cover that edge was painstaking, but completing it made me feel like a damn champion.
This tutorial is amazing! I have watched parallax videos before and was always too intimidated but not only did you teach it so it seemed plausible to me you made it look like I could never make a map the normal way again haha. I can't wait for part 3. Hopefully it has as fast a turn around as part 1 to part 2 did. Keep up the awesome work!
I'm a total beginner with RPG Maker and these tutorials have really eased my nervousness! You do a wonderful job explaining, your voice is soft and genuine, and you move at a very nice pace. I'm so excited to get home as start making beautiful maps!
I'm just starting out with RPG Maker MV and have been doing some photoshop earlier. Your videos on parallaxing are really inspirational, thank you! I'm having a blast making my first map and I'm able to use bits and pieces from the default and some free tilesets to create the exact feel and look I want, it's amazing! Here's some tips to avoid cluttering during mapmaking: - Finish your work as you move along the map. Often when you pick one item and randomly distribute it across the map, by the time you reach your last item the map is usually brimming with stuff. - Limit the amount of tiles and instead create variations of the same tile (combine, horizontal flip & resize). - Try to gather the small things around big things. This will open up some space. Of course the amount and diversity of stuff you place onto the map depends entirely on what your goal for the map is and what style you want to go for. For example in a plain/savanna you would have a lot of grass, so working more with the complexity of the grass/dirt/sand, having 2-3 trees, some paths will make the map immersive as well as making it open. While in a bustling town you need to work with the details in the height of the buildings, alleys with dead ends and fake pathways/doors that you can't access. Remember that it's often the places where the player can't venture that creates the mystique, "Is there loot up there?", "How do I get up there?".
It's such a relief to see a Photoshop tutorial with organized folders. Thank you so much for this tutorial! Just bought RPG Maker MV and this makes it more understandable :)
This felt like a class, in a good way. I have never done graphic design, but after watching this video I am going to buy Photoshop. You give pointers on how to make the map more pleasing to the eye, showcasing your creative and artistic skill, and it's clear that you should be teaching professionally... I learned more than a 50-minute class's worth of knowledge from this video.
thanks for breaking it down to formula for us newbys!! everyone else is always clicking things quickly and talking two steps ahead.. you take us step by step.. THANKS!!!
When I bought my MV, it frustrated me because nobody has posted a tutorial about it! This helps a lot because I'm just a beginner! Thank you very much!! :))
well after those billions of oversized parallax-speed-map-videos finally something what even I understand and with what I can work with :) thanks Lorelei, this is what I call pa-relax mapping xD
Hi. I am a fans from China. Because of the GFW of China which block all the contents in youtube, I have to download your video to my cell phone so I can open it on the metro. But I will still check you video list when I have chance. BTW, your voice is sooooo lovely, please upload more videos
Best tutorial for this out there! Thank you for making it super simple to follow! Had tried in the past but was never brave enough to try but you've made it seem super simple and I'm loving doing it! Thank you so much!
Your video is super cute and informative. I had a lot of fun just watching your mistakes :) made you more human and less "I know it all". Thanks for making this! :D
This is awesome, I can be alot more creative with my maps now, I used to hate doing maps because it restricts you so much but now I can make things just how I like it. Thanks for the tutorial. :D
you and your tutorial are amazing! I love how you explain...your a natural at it :) thank you so much for this video, i subscribed and cant wait to watch the rest of your videos.
Wow, when I saw in your first video that you were going to use Photoshop I scared a little bit.. as I have no clue of using it, but I bought RPG Maker some days ago and I really wanted to make nice maps, it doesn't seem that hard now that you explained in that way, your tutorial has been so helpful definitely! thanks a lot and keep up the good work ^^
I'm just gonna add one thing: I recommend taking advantage of layers A LOT! What I'm saying is at the beginning with the rocks you say to merge the rocks to the same layer as the map, I recommend merging the rocks into its own second layer and calling it rocks or make it a folder and put all of them in there.
I really enjoy your vids, and i am trying parallax mapping because of your guides. Please make more RPG Maker videos, i will watch them all! :) Ever thought about streaming it on twitch? Have a great day! :)
Yeah I can tell you're doing a real good job on your tutorials... Your voice is sweet and pleasant, you could add a very low music to the background and maybe instead of cutting the video you could do something like a speed mapping you know~~~ Well that's what I would do... and actually you've inspired me to make some tutorials in portuguese for brazilians!!! AWESOME!!! I'll credit you everywhere!!!
Karlski They've got infographs online somewhere in googleland (aka forgot the url myself) for keyboard shortcuts. They really come in handy and cut down on work time! I just looked through it a few times, focusing on the ones I use the most. I encourage making your own keyboard shortcuts too! ( i forgot which pulldown menu so google that too! )
And I always thought I wasn't good with graphics... This is not that hard and yet makes the maps look pleasant to watch! Not to mention, I have learned something about mapping itself as well, not just parallax mapping :) But truth is, if you are a free user, I would rather recommend Photofiltre than Gimp. I found it more convenient and simpler... And actually in Gimp I couldn't even find the Define pattern tool :D There is only the cloning stamp, but that one is pretty inconvenient in Gimp.
Ok I know this video is old but I hope I can be helped... my map is HUGE like 150x150, it's the overworld map, and if I do the math I need a 7200x7200 pixel image on photoshop. Ok, cool, can do that. But if I save the map as an image the quality is super low and I don't know how to fix this
It all looks good cept I think there is too much stuff in the water, too many plants I think, I dont know, looks a little too busy imo. But, I think I might have to start doing this with my maps, considering my game has over 100 maps tho, this is going to take some time :(
I think it is best not to add background music to the vocal clips in the tutorial video, which can make the vocals clearer. I like this video. If possible, adding some CC subtitles to the video should be more convenient for more people.
is this an asmr video i watched the whole 49 mins its very helpful but sounds like asmr and is very seductive XD, which is good, i like how she said "ahh my hardness was at 100% thats not cool i like it at 0"
Hi Fallen Lorelei and many thanx for the tutorial. You are a ray of light in a cloudy day. I would like to make two questions if I may. The firts is. I use Photoshop CC 5.1 and when I select a tree for example, I copy it and I paste it on the map I can see that some extrange shadows from another tiles next to the tree are there too. It´s like a very soft shade of the item just next to the tree and I don´t know why because I only select the tree.. What I have to do after pasting it on the map is erasing that shades and it very annoying because it makes the mapping veeeery slow. What´s the problem??! The second question is. When I select the tree I see what appears on your selection is a perfect square. When I do it there appears a circle, it´s like it adjusts the selection line to the tree... Is that important? It´s weird because I have the selection on rectangular not circle... Thanks again for your patience! Hugs from Spain!
I am using Gimp for this and it has worked out so far. The only problem that I have is the brushes and copying/stamping tool. The copying tool only stamps one pattern at a time and does not allow to draw in strokes like a brush would. And the brush lets me make strokes but it repeats the pattern over again. In the end, it looks like an endless line of squares. I have tried turning down the hardness, turning down the opacity, and the spacing. How can I fix this?
This has to be the best, beginner level parallax mapping tutorial on RUclips. Clear explanations, excellent tempo and visually pleasing.

+Steven Schoovaerts Thank you!! =D That means a lot!
I agree!

Same, I don't even know this was a thing 😂
As someone who doesn't know nuts about Photoshop and bought it just to follow this tutorial, simply the act of copying and moving that first rock to cover that edge was painstaking, but completing it made me feel like a damn champion.
The perfectionist in me says that the scene is too busy, but the artist in me says this is a masterpiece
This tutorial is amazing! I really struggle with art, but this video has opened my eyes up to a whole lot of opportunity using just the basic tile sets. Thank you so much!
It's such a relief to see a Photoshop tutorial with organized folders. Thank you so much for this tutorial! Just bought RPG Maker MV and this makes it more understandable :)

7 years of being a photoshop fanatic and I just learned the shortcut for duplicate -_-
Awesome tutorial btw! Keep em comin'!
I've been looking all over for an understanding Parallax mapping tutorial like this one! Thank you so much, you've just saved me from the frustration!
Best thing you taught me is REMEMBERING TO CREDIT people's work.
well after those billions of oversized parallax-speed-map-videos finally something what even I understand and with what I can work with :) thanks Lorelei, this is what I call pa-relax mapping xD

This is very helpful and really helps ease the fear of doing something that sounded complicated. Keep up the good work!
Wow that is incredible. Huge stone path misted away to a natural overgrown pebble path.
Finally i found a slow tutorial on how to parallax mapping! Thank you so much!
Not exactly what I was looking for but definitely exactly what I needed, thanks a lot for taking the time to make this.
I'm looking forward to doing part 3 tomorrow. Thank you for such a clear and nicely done tutorial.

It's 2019. I hope you've become more confident in your amazing skills and have stopped apologizing. Thank you for these videos.
Wow, when I saw in your first video that you were going to use Photoshop I scared a little bit.. as I have no clue of using it, but I bought RPG Maker some days ago and I really wanted to make nice maps, it doesn't seem that hard now that you explained in that way, your tutorial has been so helpful definitely! thanks a lot and keep up the good work ^^
This is quite nice. I had some good results using the burn tool as a shader, and the clone stamp tool does wonders when you need to patch up corners.
Really appreciate this video.
Your art is fantastic!
I'm just gonna add one thing: I recommend taking advantage of layers A LOT! What I'm saying is at the beginning with the rocks you say to merge the rocks to the same layer as the map, I recommend merging the rocks into its own second layer and calling it rocks or make it a folder and put all of them in there.
your voice is awsome AF, no music needed.
very interresting tutorial! thx fellow rpg maker!
The longer the better. thanks for the effort!!
your tutorials... are... so easy to understand... i thank you so much for your help ^_^
For the love of God, no music in the background, please. It is good as it is.
And thank for sharing your experience with us.
I really enjoy your vids, and i am trying parallax mapping because of your guides. Please make more RPG Maker videos, i will watch them all! :)

Your tutorial is very detailed.
Thank you for the video, you have inspired me to make beautiful maps!
Great tutorial! This was a big help!
Excellent tutorial for beginners, thank you
Yeah I can tell you're doing a real good job on your tutorials... Your voice is sweet and pleasant, you could add a very low music to the background and maybe instead of cutting the video you could do something like a speed mapping you know~~~
Well that's what I would do...
and actually you've inspired me to make some tutorials in portuguese for brazilians!!! AWESOME!!! I'll credit you everywhere!!!
I learnt a bunch of shortcuts and new techniques for PS.. thanks!
Karlski They've got infographs online somewhere in googleland (aka forgot the url myself) for keyboard shortcuts. They really come in handy and cut down on work time! I just looked through it a few times, focusing on the ones I use the most. I encourage making your own keyboard shortcuts too! ( i forgot which pulldown menu so google that too! )
If you have snap on you can hold ctrl to temporarily turn it off for delicate or difficult movements
Very good tutorial and very nice voice as bonus ;-), Thx.
Very useful video, thank you!
This is a good Tutorial.
I'm a german but your explain is nice ;)
You have a sweet voices too.
Great tutorial! And your voice is so beautiful and sweet. 🥰
Minute 25:30 instead of ctrl+j, you can simply hold alt + drag (with move tool) the grass-like-flower to auto duplicate it.
omw it's three in the damn morning why did I find this channel nowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!
love these too much :'( thanks xD
+Issei Senpai haha I'm glad that you like them!! Thanks =D
nice video it is helping me out quite a lot :)
Awesome video once again!
This takes much time, but it is a much better way to edit the map, than rpg maker's default method.
Love your voice! And thanks for the help
And I always thought I wasn't good with graphics... This is not that hard and yet makes the maps look pleasant to watch! Not to mention, I have learned something about mapping itself as well, not just parallax mapping :)

wow, this looks so good O_o
Before I watched this video I was a PhotoshopNoob, Now I feel a lot more capable.
Ok I know this video is old but I hope I can be helped... my map is HUGE like 150x150, it's the overworld map, and if I do the math I need a 7200x7200 pixel image on photoshop. Ok, cool, can do that. But if I save the map as an image the quality is super low and I don't know how to fix this
nice video, very very helpful!
amazing job, thank you!
that was pretty useful thanks :3
Great stuff, thank you! I think you can alt+drag to duplicate a layer now similar to Illustrator.
Would love to see a tutorial on customizing your own tilesets and characters I want my game to look the something from the ps1
Simply AMAZING :D
It all looks good cept I think there is too much stuff in the water, too many plants I think, I dont know, looks a little too busy imo. But, I think I might have to start doing this with my maps, considering my game has over 100 maps tho, this is going to take some time :(
Thank you so much for this!
i think music would have taken away from what you had to say, I learned a lot about photo editing thanks :)
thanksyou for knowledge
you are awesome!! thanks !!
I think it is best not to add background music to the vocal clips in the tutorial video, which can make the vocals clearer.
I like this video.
If possible, adding some CC subtitles to the video should be more convenient for more people.
Holy crap you are so cute and funny. love your work and this has helped me out greatly

You are like the Bob Ross of RPG Maker. lol
WHOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!
I love your voice *^*
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU :D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For some reason my Impressionist was on and Alligned was off, so my grass was just a green smudge lol.
Took me a while to figure that out.
is this an asmr video i watched the whole 49 mins its very helpful but sounds like asmr and is very seductive XD, which is good,
i like how she said "ahh my hardness was at 100% thats not cool i like it at 0"
Wonderful video!
is there a way to "save image" considering the different resolution of my game?
Sorry for my bad english
"Let's call it grass" ;)
Do you still make games? I'd love to play one!
I’d play this game.
It is good! ❤
