I love this show so much. It's been a looonnnng time since high school, but I can remember exactly how it felt and this show brought me there 100%.
I've been curious about it but felt like i wouldnt 'get it'. I'm old so y'know... But i do like exploring so now that you've shared some additional insight i will check it out when my semester is over.
I’m 38 my son is a teenager, and I could relate to these kids more than my son could cause he hasn’t been through none of that
I grew up watching skins uk and us so I was so surprised when people were shocked about the rawness of this show. I love Euphoria it reminds me of my last year of high school all the way up to 26 . So many teens struggle with drugs. I think showing it romanticized and showing the rough part helps teens understand that’s no matter how beautiful it may seem it will get bad.

I watch it but I can't relate any of the characters but I like seeing different things and different types of people.
I love, love, love Euphoria! They had the scripts, costumes, sets done and shut down filming day 1 bcuz of Covid. Ive been mad af they still haven’t given us a season yet.

I found it too relatable and it was just depressing. Like I lived it but it wasn't this glittery. It was dark and depressing and I related to the misery in each person to the point I just didn't want to torture myself with bad memories anymore.

I love euphoria and he did an amazing job with rue and Jules story but sam should be called out for how he wrote mckay. No one is saying mckay should be the main focus of the entire series but at least justify his existence outside of being Cassie bf and Nate token black best friend. Sam used the only fully black male main cast member and had him
1. be completely submissive to a younger white boy,
2. gave him an uninteresting stereotypical jock storyline,
3. had him get sexual assaulted and emasculated by all white men( buck breaking) and used his black trauma to develop Cassie instead of him
4. made it seem like mckay abandoned his pregnant girl, which is perpetuating a negative black stereotype.
5. Create a scene where some fans intercepted mckay a black man raped a white woman in episode 6 which I think is absurd again perpetuating a negative black stereotype. I dont think it was Sam fault, just a weird interpretation from fans.
6. Had him completely isolated from everyone.
7. A backstory that was not detailed or nuance as everyone else
8. Made his episode about Cassie
9. Made him join an all white frat which as a black man, confuses the hell out of me.
10. Portraying him as weak minded in terms of him giving up way to easily in football considering he just got there. I get it he is insecure but damn.
11. Had him be a plot device for white characters and nothing more and just seem to be there to be the black guy and meet a quota because Sam or HBO needed a black character on the main cast which he makes him feel like a token black character. He was treated like an honorary black character who just reacts and solely exist to fill the space for white characters instead of a character with depth.
Sam is a great writer but he was tone deaf with mckay character.
The fact Nate and cal got more empathy from the fanbase is fucking weird. This shows that if a white man acts out he will be seen as misunderstood and if a black man acts out he will be demonized. Sam could have explored this but he didnt. Hopefully in s2, he writes mckay better or not Fuck up on Jamison character when he is introduced. Ps. I am not saying Sam is racist at all nor saying he purposely fucked up mckay character. Please those comments are getting annoying. All I am saying he was tone deaf with his character and may need black writers to help apply nuance to his character. Outside of drug addicts, Sam doesn't seem to know how to write black characters. Malcolm and Marie was good but Sam used a black character( Malcolm) as a vessel to vent his issues about a bad review he received from a critic. That was the whole foundation of his character
I like the show phenomenal however I will say it can go left real fast if it gets to pretentious! I also needed Fez story and Rue's monologue of him, I felt that we got everybody else except him and he's my favorite character!

I love this show.. except for the last episode Jules Special. That one left me very confused & I still don't know what's going on with that..
Love the show but it’s been over 30 years since high school. This are really different but I see a couple of characters that look familiar. I’m rooting for Rue though. 🙂

Euphoria is good. I like it. But it’s way too Gen Z in the same way My So Called Life was way too Gen X. It’s so try hard.
i love the story pace i dont feel the story drags on for no reason look at 13 reasons why . Dont get me wrong but the pace of that show is super slow i feel like can we skip to the good part but this issue is not in euphoria the story hooked for like 20 min into the story

I have seen this show and after listening to your comments, I am not convinced that this show is "good." Drugs, mental illness, and children growing up in a broken home is definitely a serious issue in this country and is complex. I think a show depiction of this reality is not going to do much to help or bring hope to solve these issues. I get that it's an HBO production and it's aim is to get many viewers and attention. However, I am looking at it from a moral and ethical perspective that is unpopular. As cliché as this sounds, I think Jesus Christ can restore the brokenness that the young generation is yearning.
Euphoria is like the updated version of Skins UK that’s why I love it !
Anybody that says the storylines in Euphoria aren’t realistic clearly wasn’t outside because while I was in high school (over a decade ago) I knew someone that experienced almost all of the plot points.
You should have included Lexi for the kids that just do their work, are chill & see their former friends bugging out lol.

What happened to McKay? He is one I relate to on some levels because he is the only black male character they show. He has issues with Cassie and he is trying to satisfy his dad by trying to be a football star when that is probably not going to happen

It’s a bit exaggerated, but what show isn’t? It’s amazing with its reality of what A LOT of teenagers go through, and most adults are simply oblivious to them because a lot of teens don’t tell ALL the truth. Cannot wait until season 2…it’s got all the feels in it, and it also touches on serious issues the truly relate to a lot of things going on.
I liked Euphoria's first season. The 2 pandemic episodes were boring.

Never watched this show but will check it out. Jules and rue sound like me and my oldest friend as teens. I was a hoe who loved older man sex and she struggled with addiction issues, her dad commited suicide.

Oh man! I love Euphoria!! I totally agree this show reminded me so much of my high school experience. Like the core friend group with all the ladies was just like my girls in high school! I related to almost every girl in a way, like if it wasn’t something I went through it was something one of my friends went through at the time.
My boyfriend was trying to act like the show promoted/glorified the “adult” behavior the kids did… and I had to have that talk with him, no babe this is the most realistic high school show I’ve ever seen. He grew up most of his life as a good little Christian boy so maybe that clouded his mind… but even he was doing drugs and having sex in his later years in high school soooo I don’t understand what the disconnect there was.. 😂 Definitely some delusion going on there.

Identify crisis, nudity of teenagers, NONSENSE!!! My sound is, what that of audience was this show aimed at? Why use 20 year olds to play teenagers in high school? Just have a college school show….ur making no sense at all. CRAZY!!! I feel sorry for you.
Fake crappy over exaggerated drama.Anyone who finds any of these characters relatable should seek help immediately.The male are way too effiminate and the females are scripted to be masculine but it doesn't work.This show is a comedy that runs in circles.
