- Hello My Sweet Summer Children! We are back at it!!! The Long night is finally over and HBO has dropped The Trailer for House of the Dragon, in this video I will do a breakdown of the House of the dragon Trailer. House of the Dragon is the Prequel to the Game of Thrones Series and is based on the book Fire and Blood, or the stories the Rouge Prince and The Princess and the queen. In this video I will explain the scenes and what I think is going on be careful for House of the Dragon Spoilers if you have not read the books.
House of the Dragon is about the Targaryen Civil war known as the dance of dragons and it occurs about 150 years before game of thrones!

The first dragon is 100% Syrax ridden by Rhaenyra. Also that scene of Daemon being scared by an unknown dragon is probably a scene of him stealing an egg for Mysaria and getting ambushed by the Cannibal.

It is mostly true but I hope that dragon is not the cannibal because he is small he is to be bigger than belarion.
@@javedmanawar1782 well this was a years before the dance started, so he probably got bigger by the time the Seeds came into the picture

One thing i noticed, in the shot of daemon leaving dragon stone with a egg, he had longer hair in this scene. At the end of the trailer with the dragon, he had medium hair length, which means to me the last shot is later in the time line. So im thinking the last dragon in the trailer is vermithor, in the depths of dragon stone, were he made his lair after jaehaerys passed.

The guy who plays Otto Hightower , Rhys Ifans , is a fantastic actor . The same can be said of the man who plays Daemon , Matt Smith . Both are well known on UK tv so I can let my fellow Thrones fans from America know they will be brilliant . I know a lot of people have misgivings about Matts look as a Targaryen but once you see him perform I bet all that will be a distant memory .
Almost certain that first dragon is Syrax , the color is very close to the source material description , the rider seems to have quite long hair as well. HotD will surely have to make Caraxes super red , not just some red details on the wing membranes. Not that it matters with teasers and trailers as much but also the next scene right after that dragon flying in is Rhaenyra approaching the Iron Throne , so i do think its Syrax.
The dragon at the end Daemon seems to be stealing an egg from , assuming to give it to Mysaria for their expected child. Could be one of the wild dragons on Dragonstone but one of those might have just roasted Daemon in that situation. Also could be Dreamfyre, would make sense that Daemon would want to swipe a dragon egg from a dragon linked to the Greens ; and Dreamfyre has been attributed to several clutches of eggs. Vermithor is a possibility as well.
I do not think that it is syrax, that dragon is too small
@@user-kx8pd4fr4g we do not know the exact scale of the dragon's size in this series yet for one in terms of their on-screen depiction. And I am assuming that scene it is likely a young Rhaenyra and such a younger smaller Syrax. Possible since we know we are operating with at least two timelines.
Good idea of Syrax. The camera cuts can typically be tells! I thought about the egg too but the hair. Seems his hair changes to show date. They are different. I am hoping it is Cannibal, but probably not lol.
@@Ashley_e yeah that caved dragon could go a number of ways. I could see Vermithor to an extent given he made a lair under the Dragonmont for some time after Jaehaerys I died. Surely being more isolated / on his own would have become more wild and unpredictable. Also in that light could somewhat pass for bronze coloring with the dragon-fire giving more the illusion of red details.
Also very possible it could be one of the wild dragons on Dragonstone also. Sheepstealer also a possibility and could work given the later association with Daemon but was supposedly more calm and tame. The Cannibal could make sense there with the temperament and possibly the color / appearance ; that might have been a black dragon. I somewhat thought of Dreamfyre because it looked like Daemon was sneaking around / plotting and we know she was attributed to several clutches of eggs. But even in the dark not sure that would be Dreamfyre's coloration.
The caved dragon is hard to really guess based on that quick glimpse in the dark ; seemingly from a distance as well.
@@AlexBB77 you are def right about it being wild. And given the later plots of all those seeds lol it is important to show wild activity of the dragons. That they can be brutal even to Targaryen blood. The show never depicted the unpredictable and dangerous nature. They fired on command and portrayed as tamed. Never showed what happens if you approach and they don’t want you to. That’s why Jon’s scene never hit an 😱 omg. Because we had never seen it go bad. The more they show wild nature, the more tense it will be and set up for the blood bath of seeds.

Like you said he doesn’t have Tywin’s stomach. I’m team black but I have a soft spot for Alicent bc I think she’s the smartest player on either side. I cannot wait omg 😭.

KhalEazy I think Alicent thinks she’s the smartest person on either side but I see her as more of a Cersei someone who has done what their dad has told them to do for so long they start to think it was their ideas all along lol. To me you can tell she’s not that smart by how she is at the end. She’s just kind of forgotten about like she wasn’t even important enough to sentence to death after all the destruction she caused which is really a fitting end for someone who wanted to be the center of the universal with all the power in the world. No power and no attention forced to wait out her life old and alone.... anyway imo the smartest players are Rhaenyra who would’ve lived if not for trickery and backstabbing. Her son Jacey seems like he’s going to be a Robb Stark very smart and very capable leader that gets killed in some unexpected way and completely changes everything. Or the two runner ups Dameon the rogue prince or Aemon one eye (a bastard but still smart asf waiting to get the biggest dragon). Anyone not trying to be a douche bag just love talking Asoiaf and your take on who was the smartest gave me this idea lol
@@KingOfWinter I have to completely disagree with you respectfully. Alicent’s actions brought on her own destruction yes this is true. But that was more of a karmic thing than failure in strategy. Alicent’s intelligence cannot be questioned in my opinion bc GRRM goes out of his way to drive home that this is her best quality. Every action she took was the best action for the outcome she was hoping for. Alicent is the one who negotiated peace and saved the remaining lives of king’s landing nobles after the riots in the capitol. Comparing that to Rhaenyra who flees it’s hard to argue she’s not the better politician. Daemon and Aemond were only battle savvy. They didn’t play the game of thrones so much as they were good at bullying. Alicent does listen to her father but she shows political cunning long after he’s dead. And all of the greens best decisions came from her. She was the true leader of their faction.

The biggest tragedy of the dance is Vhagar, Caraxes, and Meleys. They had so much in common.
And sun fire gold dragon was so cool

Really just here for Corlys and Rhaenys! Baratheons are definitely wish washy. My thing is why wouldn’t Rhaenyra send Rhaenys to treat with the Baratheons. She was a powerful and respected politician. Not to mention she was Borros’s first cousin there’s less of a chance he’d be as harsh to Rhaenys as he was to the young prince who was a bastard and thus not from his cousins line.
Maybe something about it being a son than a queen who never was. Idk 🤷🏼♀️
My guess: Rhaenys was an experienced dragon rider and had a larger dragon. They were probably worried about a potential attack from Kings Landing; there was a risk Vhagar and Sunfyre could be on them at any time. They needed their largest dragons and most experienced riders: Rhaenys, Daemon and Rhaenyra on Dragon Stone to defend against that. The Storms End trip was diplomatic and considered low risk at that time, sending the most inexperienced rider and the smallest dragon wouldn't weaken their defences notably.
I suspect Corlys’s line about legacy was trying to convince Viserys to remarry after the death of his first wife to produce a male heir…by marrying Corlys’s daughter Laena

And Balerion was Viserys dragon, his brother.
I have been thinking the opening dragon shot might be Rhaenyra and Syrax.
Also, your SDE explanation of Otto is ON POINT. He pushed Alicent to do all the dirty work for him.

i actually think the dragon is syrax! it’s green and kinda small so it has to, because caraxes is a blood red dragon! and also on the screenshot you put around 7:20 we can see a dragon saddle!!!! i’m so happy they made saddles for the show!!
The wings membranes are red tho😫
i thought the same thing, that yellowish green hue & who else other than the princess at this time would be flying their young dragon around the city
@@GrayArea The books say syrax is yellow but they never mention her secondary colour. Syrax could be yellow with red wing membranes.

I think it's Syrax. A reddish cast could just be the way the sun is hitting the wings. The membranes are much thinner. Search pictures of large bats (esp. flying foxes) in the daylight with their wings outstretched and you'll see what I mean.
This was so refreshing and cool to know that our world of fire and ice has not ended. I absolutely love all the new actors and the plot of the story. I can only hope at some point we get to visit Asshai by the shadow xo :) cheers and thankyou Grey Area xo

This trailer looks amazing - can't wait to see the book turn into live action.. My only question is why start in the middle of the book with the Dance of Dragons? Yes, Its an action packed drama filled story, but Aegon's Conquest had my attention stuck to every word - and it's the beginning of it all.. I wonder if season 2 will be a flashback to Aegon's Conquest and give us the infamous Maegor also.
Dance of the dragons is better for tv as a story but I’m sure there aegons conquest will be fully explained if not showed hopefully

Glad you caught the possible Stark rename. It should be Rickon or Benjen. If they changed it from one of those to Rickard to avoid confusion it makes no sense because there were mentions of Ned’s father Rickard in GoT. Also they didn’t change Viserys I name even though there’s a Viserys in GoT. I can’t tell if it was a subtitle typo and he’s actually saying Rickon due to the accent lol.
