Showdown: Legends of Wrestling is a professional wrestling video game and the sequel to Legends of Wrestling II released by Acclaim Entertainment for the Xbox and PlayStation 2 in 2004. A version of the game for the Nintendo GameCube was also planned but was canceled. Showdown is the third game in the Legends of Wrestling video game series.

That's because it's a non-licensed title not tied to any of the big 3 promotions of that time (WWF.WCW, or ECW).
Heenan was recovering from throat cancer that's why he sound strange . sadly now he can not speak.

The roster is probably the top aspect of this game. It brings to the table a list of legends spanning many different promotions. It also gives you a glimpse into what the WWE games would have looked like if they had stayed with Acclaim. The graphics are decent, the gameplay is simple and addictive and the create a wrestler is well done. It has some flaws in collision detection and the models are a bit blocky but overall a very good effort by Acclaim.

i have to agree i have the x-box version and i love it.
granted sometimes a gitch can cause you to restart matches but all in all its a great game that doesn't get have the credit it truly deserves.
Good comment. The roster is absolutely amazing, the game was obviously made by knowledgeable wrestling fans (arenas, ring attires) and the graphics are wonderful. It's a real shame they spent all their budget on the roster and graphics, the AI and game play are terrible. Still fun but man, it could have been the best American wrestling game ever made.
This is the game Bobby Heenan did voice work for fresh off of surgery for cancer. That's why he was mumbling.

Kinda ironic that Eddie Guerrero is in this game, this game was released while he was the WWE Champion, well actually just 5 days before he lost it

it IS Quiet Riot, you and Wikipedia both got that kinda wrong ....
but it´s not the original recording from ´83 , it´s the re-recorded Version from the 1999 Album "Alive and Well"

every sequel of this game had potential.Great rosters, great soundtrack... The game itself very addictive. I remember played on this game back in 2006, very entertained especially if you loves to see entrance, the rosters, the characters and attires. But, never mind.. its acclaim. Every wrestling game from acclaim is disappointed, in my opinion.
This game could have been great, but rushed development killed it.
So much potential...
I love this game because of the roster. There are a lot of bad aspects most notably game play and commentary but no other wrestling game has such a large diverse roster.

Tony Schiavone has claimed many times that neither he, Larry Zbyszko, nor Bobby Heenan got a paycheck for this game. Way to go on another fail, Acclaim!
Sounds about right for Acclaim.
I quite enjoyed this game at the time, despite it's flaws. I remember one glitch in particular involving Sabu, whenever he would do a dropkick his hair would stretch out and attach itself to the nearest rope. Personally, I found it added to the charm.

As a kid and even now i absolutely love this game and first one (never played the second one) but if you accept it’s glitchy gameplay it’s an incredible game to play with a couple fiends and a bottle of jack
I love this game too, just wish it wasn't so damn glitchy all the time. it could've been regarded as one of the better wrestling games ever if it ran smoother lol

on Xbox its actually better. while both versions have progressive scan, Xbox version provides your own Custom soundtracks during entrances and i think in-game. the gameplay is somewhat better too.

Plus it's backwards comp with 360 and you can play in HD
This game was awesome. Me and my roommates in college played it for hours. We also played 1 and 2 alot

You know something? After playing this and going back to WCW Mayhem, it makes Mayhem feel amazing! Mayhem is actually a pretty good game. The best use of the WCW license ever in my opinion. Sure it’s not as good as Revenge, but honestly the WCW presentation was nailed in Mayhem. Plus you can play with both Versions of the Nitro Arena! The arena selection backstage fights and excellent roster, including the likenesses of the characters and overall presentation quality is so good. I can take average gameplay any day. Yeah it’s not as polished but it’s actually more responsive than Showdown surprisingly!
I was really disappointed with Mayhem but it’s probably because of how highly it was hyped. The PS1 had some pretty bad WCW entries and this was a new publisher, a new developer, and a new start that was much needed. I thought it was going to be amazing based on the previews but it ended up decent.
I did play the hell out of this game. Love the rosters they had on here, but the take away from this game is being buggy, slow, and sometime it glitches up during the match and you had to restart

Roster, graphics, atmosphere, animations, everything about this game ruled except the gameplay
The only roster that comes even close to this is WCW Revenge.
Imagine the people that made virtual pro wrestling/wcw/nwo revenge/wwf wrestlemania 2000 etc with there grapple system. Imagine how good this game would be if they made it.
AKI moved on to the Deff Jam series once the WWF license went to Yukes.
I had a lot of fun with this game personally. I used to play this all the time with my cousin. We used to play a bunch of match types just picking any random wrestler. It made for a lot of fun nights in the years 2004-2006.
aside from the amazing roster, they greatest thing about this game is the glitches. Great video.

That's the only gripe I had with the US AKI games was the exclusion of big name legends. Only one we had was Andre The Giant

I can understand what this game was trying to be, and I respect that. It was trying to be a love letter to fans of the history of wrestling, not just the WWE. It was meant to be a platform where people could have dream matches and have their favorite wrestlers from history face off against each other while in their prime. The problem is that, aside from the roster, they didn't get anything right. I honestly thought Legends of Wrestling 2 had a much better career mode.
Explosions and Stuff legends 2 is probably the best one of only acclaim did another game with the roster of showdown and the pasazz of the 2nd game
Does this game have problems with freezing or is the glitches minor things like warping?
I honestly can’t remember if mine ever froze, but I don’t believe that it did.

Haven’t played it quite some time now, but I think they may be wrestlers that I didn’t unlock.

I really like that screen in the background showing the game play that looks really cool and I would like to see 2k do that

I used to love this game. All the criticisms were deserved, but we have to understand that WWE owning a lot of rights kind of creates an uphill battle for a solid wrestling game. Plus, it was decent for PS2 and that time period.

You should mention that if you're eliminated in a Battle Royal, the match is over. Even if you're the first one out. Same goes for any multi-man match.
Have this game with the WWE licenses and in-game mechanics of the WWE games, then I think it'd be an awesome game.

Galcier is no legend. Wrestling Bios may've unwittingly improved Mr. Chilly Chode's stock in getting more aspiring wrestlers to visit Casa Del Frosty Balls, though.

I think they were trying to create an engine similar to aki engine and am I the only one who noticed that the game shows eliminated after winning the steel cage match and ladder match
I really enjoy playing this game. The gameplay doesn't really bug me as much as other people. I don't know, maybe it just takes more time to piss me off. I won several cage matches by climbing up and escaping. And to recreate so many matches from so many different wrestling leagues, is just awesome.

I actually just picked this game up today. I remember playing this when I was 12 years old and the game blew me away. It definitely has its faults but honestly I’ve played worse video games.

This was my second wrestling game ever, the first one was Wrestlemania 21 on the Xbox, but i enjoyed this game more than the first one. Even though it is buggy and it feels weird to play but i like it.

This is one of my all time favorite wrestling games. Its not the greatest but the roster, match types, and arenas I can forgive its flaws.
I loved the legends of wrestling games which had fantastic rosters but I just wish the gameplay in those games was better.

Jesus I enjoyed this game so much, yeah it was so glitchy but I loved it, a lot of arenas, a lot of wrestlers, it was good and I had some good matches with it...
The only thing that bothered me was that the wrestlers didn't have their original theme songs but it was good for me.
