- Wrestling Bios Presents - Showdown : Legends of Wrestling - The Greatest Wrestling Game Roster Ever?
For a change on what you normally see on this channel, let's look at a classic wrestling game that, in my opinion, has the greatest roster in the history of all wrestling games. This is Showdown: Legends of Wrestling, a game quoted as being "The Supercard of the immortals".
Showdown features a roster filled with superstars from the territory days such as The Von Erichs and The Rock n' Roll Express along with legendary WWE and WCW superstars such as Sting, Hulk Hogan, Eddie Guerrero and Bret Hart. For fans of old school and classic wrestling, the roster is like a dream come true.
Developed and published by Acclaim, Showdown: Legends of Wrestling was released on PS2 and the OG Xbox. It's the sequel to Legends of Wrestling II, which came out after the initial Legends of Wrestling Game. Showdown was released in 2004.
In this video, we look at the full roster, the arenas, the match types and modes. We also look at the gameplay and talk about what works well, and what doesn't.
Match gameplay shows matches featuring:
Sting vs Superstar Billy Graham
Kevin Von Erich vs Sid Vicious
Dynamite Kid vs Curt Hennig
Ultimate Warrior vs Harley Race
Owen Hart vs British Bulldog
And don't worry! Normal Wrestling Bios videos are continuing (and still very much in production). I just thought you guys would like a change of pace, and the roster here is most definietly looking at!
#wrestling #showdown #wwe
They need to remake this game with this roster in today's gaming standards. I would never leave my house.
If it do. We will have to pay for DLC...
@@abeezysportsxentertainment yeah but hopefully the DLC would be same zayn and all the current no hopes so no one would care
@Hulk Hogan brother
@Marc Carran how is this the dumbest suggestion ever?
You Know
He explained it illiterate idiot!
Also the final ever game published by Acclaim!
Cheers Larry!
Hello, you. You the man, Larry.
A loooooooooot of dream matches I used to play with that game
With the mega roster you could correct so many legendary dream matches. Wwe could always make a legends game
Carlos Perez i use to try Owen Hart on sting.
If only they would have included each PPV arena from WCW and the WWF
Eddie guerrero was a legend even before his death
I agree
Way before
Eddie wasnt even tht old yet already legend
Most of the guys in this game were not dead when it was released to
Absolutely. I still have this game. Giving me goose bumps going through the roster.
Completely agree! I own all three games of this series.
Still one of my favorite games. Glitches and all I've had so much fun with this game over the years
Showdown remains the only wrestling game to this day that lets me create my Survivor Series Dream Team of Bret Hart, Hulk Hogan, Sting, and The Ultimate Warrior.
(My Top 4 Favorite Wrestlers of All-Time)
Don't forget about Jake Roberts.
You can create that team with 2K20 I think but whether or not you'd want to play THAT game is another story lol
Loved this roster. If they had used the AKI game engine, had a more robust create a wrestler, and some additional wrestlers men and women, this would've been a classic.
You have that already in no mercy mods.
So basically if it was entirely different?
Had the game been way more polished, and had it kept the old story mode, it would have been a pretty cool game. Maybe even with unlockables. Instead, it's a shallow and glitchy game with zero replayability. I completed both story modes on hard in 15 minutes total.
Was a classic just the way it was
I remember this. Good for its time, but the clunky gameplay and mechanics were a bit frustrating. And without a doubt, the deepest roster of playable characters in any wrestling game.
Deeper than Fire Pro Returns and its 325 wrestlers and MMA fighters? Please.
If only they had Bruser Brody to be the cherry on top
Brody vs Sabu would have been insane
As well as Hercules,Bushwhackers,Moondogs,Sika and Afa,S.d Jones,Gino hernandez,Demolition,Bobo Brazil,Enrie Ladd and much more
They needed some of the shooters on here too. Lou Thesz, Verne Gagne, Billy Robinson, Karl Gotch, Antonio Inoki, etc.
The shoot interviews on LOW2 were awesome for the time.
Everyone was so buzzed that RVD was in the first game too,
i think this game encouraged WWE to come up with what we now know as legends contracts lol
@SN A Well at the time Eddie was on heroin so he was fired by wwe which Is why he was able to he included in this game, he was a legend even then he did start wrestling when he was a kid
@SN A Ah I see what you mean now in terms of the dates weird, maybe his contract from low2 carried over and wwe were unable to do anything about it
"learn to sell brother" I literally laughed out loud at that
You could do a video about cutting grass with scissors and I would tune in. Your presentation and research is great. Keep up the great work.
Back in 2005, I never really had on complaints against this game. I just madly enjoyed everything about it-from the roster to the sheer fun of making dream matches.
And heck, the countless times I played using Andre the Giant just to punish the rest was such a delight. 💯
P.S.
The attires they outfitted the wrestlers from the various time periods they competed made it more enjoyable. 👏🏼
Although the gameplay was indeed broken, not only was the roster insane, but It had a crazy amount of moves that were later added to wwe games, it was the first time I can recall moves having optional pinning combinations and the story mode was silly but also very fun.
I'm Surprised That Undertaker Didn't Make It Into This Game
@@futuregohan4837 loads of reasons why
I love this game. Still play it every now and then.
This channel is ridiculous!!! Literally covering everything from video games to specific storylines, amazing work 👍
The roster is stacked! I’ve been wanting a territory wrestling game for a long time. One which you can be the owner and book matches. Perhaps online play could enable players to choose different areas of North America. Competing against each other, trying to take total control of the map. Ability to start with draft then enable talent trades, possibly manage contracts, cross promotion events, etc. that would be amazing with a roster like this game has
I was just playing this a few days ago! I love the career mode where you travel to different territories
What game console was you using?
That's the first Legends of Wrestling this one doesn't let you go through territories like that one did
I always like how the blood splatter stayed on the canvas during the match.
I actually enjoyed this series very much. There were a ton of cool features , the chain grappling was especially good and way ahead of any game around that time.
i played the first 2 but never knew this existed. Time to go back and play this! Love these games back in the day
I feel like the main characters that are missing are Jim Cornette, Bobby Eaton, Stan Lane, Arn Anderson, and Tully Blanchard.
Larry Bailey and Slick RIC Flair wooooooooo
Brusier Brody
And benoit
And Stan Hansen
@@mikemccoy5092 contracted by wwe.
When this game had a lot of glitches when it first came out custom soundtrack on original Xbox I still play this game
wait is this the only game that Abdullah the Butcher gets a character . WTF . theres a first for everything lol
He has a lot of appearance in the fire pro series
@@riffmcdude9830Ok cool. Iv never played the fire pro series. I almost got the one that come out on the ps4 start of the year 2019
@@ParanoidCoolcat Hurry up and get it then. As a wrestling fan I can't stress enough how good fire pro is (especially the new one). If you're looking for a game where you can either play or watch your dream matches unfold ( seriously you can make a wrestler that fights legitimately like its real life counterpart), fire pro always got your back
WCW vs NWO: World Tour
..he was Saladin
not counting Japanese games and World Tour yes, and frankly that is more than he deserves lol
You were right when you said this video was old and needs to be redone. I’m excited for the new updated video whenever you do it.
This was my first PS2 game when I was about 7. This or the first one, and it’s how my uncle completely taught me about the history of wrestling.
I loved this game when it came out. The fact your able to play in Cobo Hall and The Silver dome was awesome.
They are still missing some key characters; Rick Flair, JYD, Jim the Anvil, Haku, Freebirds, Arn Anderson, Sgt. Slaughter, Bruno Sammartino ... to name a few.
Kevin Douglas Bruno sammartino is in the game
Bruiser brodie
Ric Flair is a glaring miss!?
@@ravishingrupac8277 contracted by wwe.
I remember this game as being the first time in a while that the Ultimate Warrior appeared on a video game.
Love that I found you late tbh all this great content to watch 😎
This was an ultimate roster looking back.
I remember completing the Showdown mode with Kerry Von Erich.
I remember this game.
The massive roster is amazing and the concept of having multiple attires is a dream! 🤩
But that multiple attire idea is something that i miss in the modern wrestling games....i think that they don't want to make that extra effort. 😅
This game needs a remake desperately!! And include Stone Cold, The Rock, Undertaker, Ric Flair, Triple H and Shawn Michaels. Then it would be perfection. This roster is close to perfect for a wrestling legends game though.
Stone Cold, Undertaker, Triple H, and Shawn Michaels are all still contracted to WWE. Triple H as an executive, HBK as a producer, and Austin and Taker as legends. Flair and Rock can be used, though.
I was surprised no Diesel or Razor, but maybe they were all under contract at the time.
I remember having this game and the F ups aside it is still one of the best ever especially for the time. Man your gonna have to invite me over so we can get to smashing those buttons my friend haha. Great nostalgic vid.
I had the first two on gamecube over 16 years ago and I never bothered playing them again when I found out they were made by the same team of WWF Warzone, WWF Attitude, ECW Hardcore Revolution, and ECW Anarchy Rulz
That is one hell of a damned roster. Love to see this game play with the yukes/fire pro engine that the n64 wrestling games had
My day is now 500 times better because you uploaded
I really like this video
You should do a live feed playing the game! That would be cool and talk about the older superstars
What people need to see is you aren't playing this game for the realism. There is going to be those little glitches. But it definitely had the greatest roster in the Legends series and has the best roster of legends in any wrestling game. Plus you could finally play a variety of match types with computer vs computer matches. He talks about the difficult controls here, that's why you let the computer control both wrestlers in tournament mode so you can see a great wrestling match instead of getting frustrated trying to figure it out for yourself. This is still a great wrestling game to this day. And one I'd play over the 2k stuff anytime
This video brung back memories I forgot I had, thank you.
That roster reading was like one of those family guy gags that you just pray will end soon.
mark brown lol too funny! Its a massive roster:)
Im sure the question has been asked and possibly answered many times before however id like to know why bruiser brody wasnt in this game or arn Anderson or ric flair or Tully blanchard or barry Windham.. or lex luger. The roster needless to say was very impressive even for today's standards in terms of the depth of the pool of available legends in the game. Also im watching this video after you made a comment in your most recent video regarding your feelings on how you thought this video went in comparison to your videos in the present day lol.. and i will say, dont be so hard on yourself brother, ive been a fan of your channel sincev nearly day 1 and youve steadily put out consistently unbiased factually accurate content, and this video is no different. Much love and respect brother. Looking forward to reliving the war later today 😀
Played all of these so much in the early 2000s
I guess im one of the very few that genuinely all around enjoyed this game for what it was. The glitches were hysterical in a good way. I remember irish whipping Harley Race into the ropes and he just kept on running right into the crowd lol. (The ropes detection was basically the first of its kind)
This is the kind of game best enjoyed either with friends or in someone else's house. If played as a special occasion, it's fun. I used to have so much fun when I didn't own it and could only play it at somebody else's house. As soon as I got it for myself though, it immediately showed its problems, and I'm not talking about the glitches, those were actually kind of fun. Played alone, it's kinda boring after a while.
I love showdown Legend of wrestling I November play this wrestling game I was little crushers
Actually the model used for these games was supposed to be the 3rd ECW game that was gonna be released in 2002 but ECW went under, so Acclaim used it for Legends of Wrestling
a fun games, even with the glitches, especially back then without social medias and any sources of wrestling, this game helped me out to know about so many legends in wrestling, not only from WCW or WWE.
If they can remake this on ps4. It would be cool. I heard they a remaking, here comes the pain on ps4. I loved wwf war zone and wwf attitude games. Good times. Great video 👍
WCW/nWo Revenge would like to have a word with you...
Dude. WCW NWO Revenge was great. Except for the kickout by toggling the joysticks feature. I had an old friend who used to say no joystick toggling to kick out otherwise you got punched lol.
nope. that was a straight WCW game with just a few Japanese wrestlers with made up names, takes a backseat
Amazing! If you want a video for every wrestling game ever on the channel hit like so he can see it!
👇🏼
I remember when my big brother first bought the ps2 home he had the first one and terminator dawn of fate. ..ahhh sweet memories
I absolutely love this game! I like the other two games in the series but, I love Showdown!! In fact, I still bust it out from time to time. The game isn't the best but, at the same time, it isn't the worst either. This game had so much potential though. For me, personally, without a doubt, it has the best roster of any wrestling game ever! Hopefully, there will be an update someday soon with some of the key players that were omitted in this one. Love your content, Sir!! 👍
Jimmy snuka's finisher in this game was a spike dudley cutter and edie guerero's was shooting star press instead of frog splash👍
One of the first games I’ve ever played this is so nostalgic
I think THQ Nordic should obtain the license to the game.....and wit this roster and the engine with some upgrades from AEW FF it has potential...only thing is WWE more than likely will prevent legends being on the game due to licensing issues
So fuckin weird I was just today watching 616's reviews of WCW games and the Smackdown games. Good day for wrestling gaming for me!
Love that you can swith it up from time to time
There was a WWE Legends Of Wrestlemania game a few years ago that I kind of liked. I think if they (WWE) revisited the idea with the legends they have under contract and the libraries and IP that they own, it would be amazing. Texas, Memphis, AWA, Mid South, WWWF, Detroit, etc. You could bring in a lot of the roster of this game, a lot of the arenas (and more! Superdome, Rosemont Horizon, Olympic, Kiel, Bayfront, Sportatorium, lots more), and brand it with the Hall Of Fame instead of tying it to Wrestlemania. You could have Dusty vs. Lawler in a cage in Florida. Stan Hansen vs. Dr Death. The Midnight Express and Cornette vs. the Hart Foundation. Or a PROPER Wargames instead of the shitty one in the newest game. I think it would be awesome.
What a roster, can’t believe I didn’t get this. I gave up after LoW II
Played alot of LOW2 on PS2 back in the day, it was at a time where I had barely begun scratching the surface of pro wrestling so it was kinda educational.
And the added interviews with some of the legends you could watch as well was tremendous.
Showdown had however TOO much glitches for me to even continue playing it.
Still, I appreciate the "who's who of wrestling"
They need one for a Wrestlefest version.
No Demolition???? Crazy. Love the videos will we see a Demolition video soon ?
Loved this game and love d channell if ever in dublin will get ye scoops for every video ya have on here
I'll keep that in mind!
@@WrestlingBios dam right man honestly ur a legend keep up d great wrk ill keep promoting jerry jarrett style 😂
This was the best one outta series to me
I had this game! I LOVED IT! And you were able to make your own characters!
Regardless of its flaws I still enjoyed this game,it was also the final Wrestling game I ever played since my interest in it was done in the turn of the millennium.I still have a soft spot for these games and wrestling from my youth which was shortly a few years between 1997-2001.
I can’t believe there’s a wrestling game with the Cow Palace in the game that’s crazy.
This game with the 1st Legends of Wrestling gameplay would've been boss.
Good Lord this would be great if they made this now days!!
I feel like we're missing guys like Sgt. Slaughter, Big Van Vader, Lex Luger, Ric Flair, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Yokozuna, The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, The Demolition, Mick Foley, Buddy Rogers, Stan Lane, Tully Blanchard, Rob Van Damme, and so many more. How cool would it be to remake this game using the No Mercy engine, with the creation mode of 2k14, and with this game's roster (plus the added superstars)? Possible dream matches include Undertaker vs Terry Funk, Shawn Michaels vs Eddie Gilbert, Hollywood Hogan vs Superstar Billy Graham, Buddy Rogers vs Ric Flair, the list goes on. Now, that would be a dream come true.
Harvey, I have this game and the CAW feature allowed me to make copies of all the wrestlers you listed above with the exception of Buddy Rogers. The ability to do a decent "older" wrestler is somewhat limited. I was able to make a decent Lou Thesz by putting a receding hairline on Baron Von Raschke and giving him the appropriate ring gear. Yes, the game is limited but I was able to make 300 CAW's and can do a decent reproduction of the territories, jobbers included.
I hate how there are so many of these games doesnt included scott hall in their roaster , he deserves to be in every single game , R.I.P .
DOPEST CONCEPT EVER !!!!!!!!!! BRING THIS BACK !!!!!!!!
L.O.W 2 was one of my favorite wrestling games
Mines too
I absolutely loved Legends of Wrestling, & Legends of Wrestling 2. Both of these games started my interest in old school 70s, 80, & 90 wrestling, the territories, & that all grew in me finding TNA & NJPW for more wrestling. I've never played showdown, but I can if I could. Those 2 Legends of Wrestling game shaped so much about my history in wrestling.
I'm 21 and I remember playing this game on og Xbox slightly but I couldn't for the life of me remember the name
WWE tried their hand at this with Legends Of WrestleMania and it was worse than this. Showdown had issues but I enjoyed it, especially because of the roster and I discovered Metal Health by Quiet Riot from the game. I love the song and intro. I put Bret vs Steamboat in a CPU match once and it was amazing. Fast, non-stop back and forth inside and outside the ring.
Loved LOW 2, the promoter and territories were fun elements.
Great video and great game brother I remember this one
If they had the Midnight Express with Cornette, Stan Hansen and Bruiser Brody, that is the ultimate wrestling roster.
This game was fun I remember renting it
Favorite wrestling game of all time! I wish they had the Mad Dog in there! So entertaining!
Gameplay far from perfect but I loved it, my favorite character was Abdullah The Butcher. I had the Xbox version.
I loved loved this roster. It was perfection. Even abdullah was there. So cool:)
i still have this game for the original x-box. i hope they redo this game as a back words compatibility some day. it was a fun game with lot`s of wrestlers. they need to make one game similar to this one but with better mechanics and smooth game play that would be awesome.
Thank you for this video. I don't know that this game exists. I own some wrestling games, but this one not, the roster is awesome! 👍🏼😊
Man, what I wouldn't give for a modern game with this roster
I actually liked the reversal system in this game along with the ability to transition into other techniques
Best roster ever seen in a wrestling game:
1. Fire Pro Wrestling Returns
2. WWE 2K19
3. Showdown
Exaclty, homie prob hasn't even heard of fpwr
Fire pro has always put up a great roster IMO
@@riffmcdude9830 Yep particularly Fire Pro Returns, it's by far the deepest roster in history -- 325 wrestlers, including legends like Thesz, the Funks, Brody, Inoki, Baba, Misawa and dozens more, to current megastars like AJ Styles, Bryan, Nakamura, to well known American guys like Jarrett, Scorpio, Rick Steiner, to top tag teams like the Road Warriors, the Bulldogs, the Outsiders, to MMA stsrs like Fedor and Silva, to women like Bull Nakano and Meiko Satomura....that roster just can't be beat, it's above every other game by a mile.
2k14 had an amazing roster
WWE 2K13 and 14*
I had this game I loved that we could do 4 v 4 matches except I could never figure out how to tag in partners
It's truly disappointing that a game with this roster and these venues didn't live up to them. I would have loved this if it was executed well
If they make a remake then they need to add Bundy , beefcake , the rock , Steve Austin rakishi, rock n roll express , midnight express , demolition and more
I still own this game sure it ain't perfect but I still get a kick out of playing it. I think it's the best game out of the series in my opinion.
I own all 3 Legends of Wrestling games on PlayStation 2 and I think they're awesome. :)
I've been wanting some game company to come out with another game with nothing but legends for years now.
Not just wrestling legends but with arenas and classic pay-per-views, as well.
Considering WWE owns the pay-per-views from WWF, WCW, and ECW, and the fact that a game like that would sell better than their current games with modern wrestlers, I don't think the WWE will ever do it.
Damn, I'd love to see it though.
This is a solid nice roster of legends and coco b ware I'd love to possibly ever see a remastered edition modernize graphics polish up gameplay and this could be a badass game
I loved this game and never had a problem with any of the glitches
I’m pretty sure acclaim got access to the wcw contracts which is why they could add so many wwf/wwe guys in it. I dont know really lol
