WWE Legends of Wrestlemania was released in 2009 by THQ. Just like the SmackDown games, Legends of WrestleMania was developed by Yukes however the game played VERY differently.
Promising to celebrate the rich history of WrestleMania by allowing players to relive, rewrite and redefine classic 'Mania matches such as Andre The Giant vs Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels and The Rock vs Stone Cold Steve Austin, Legends of WrestleMania had a lot of promise. The Smack Down games had become a little stale around this point and adding a new spin-off game was seen as welcome idea. The problem, however, was that Legends of WrestleMania just wasn't a very good game.
This video takes a look at Legends of WrestleMania and everything that's wrong with the game.

The controls were definitely a big issue. I think if this game played more like the Smackdown vs Raw games it would’ve been better

What sucks about it is that Macho Man wasn't in the game. Like how the hell you can't have a WWE legends game without Maco Man?!
It's even more strange considering WWE released a DVD about him the same year this came out. Another cool inclusion would've been Ricky Steamboat in my opinion.

If only the import feature worked both ways... then we could've played as all those legends in a game with decent controls.
WWE 2K14 is a much better version of this game. Basically, since it was the 30th Wrestlemania, they had a "30 Years of Wrestlemania" mode and each bout would be about either the main event or a major match on the card. Then you got a mode dedicated to the Undertaker's streak where you could defend or defeat the streak. Highly recommend it. I'm not usually too into WWE games. The yearly releases and style of gameplay often put me off the series, but this was a unique entry and a stand-out one at that. Plus, you get an alternate cover, instead of the Rock, you can turn the cover around and have Daniel Bryan be your cover.
If you like 2k14, I recommend you try WWF '13... it does a similar thing to the "30 Years of WrestleMania" mode, but it focuses on the "Attitude Era"... which itself does cover a few WrestleManias.
One of the last truly great wrestling games!

I do wish the importing the roster was both ways so you could have the legends in Raw vs Smackdown 2009
I still remember getting the Plat trophy for this, and then not too long later, I lost my details for that account. So I had to redo this over a weekend. Fun and interesting memory.
A lot of the imported modern wrestlers at the time from SVR '09 are considered legends themselves now... Feeling old...

All it needed to be was an SvR game with a legends reskin. Lots of old school wrestlers, arenas, and a few unique match types like casket or something.
The: Relive. Rewrite. Redefine mode or idea was something really cool I thought, I’m surprised it never really got revisited in WWE games, I’d love to see other franchises playing with the idea too!
It was a solid change of pace from the SVR scene

I remember having a lot of fun with game . My favorite character in this game was the honky tonk man . I’d never heard of him before but I liked his song and gimmick and finisher . My bro liked JYD .
One thing I absolutely have to give the game credit for is how kinetic it feels watching it. That's something I feel a lot of wrestling games lack, especially the 2k games, as much as I love them

I had this game when it came out, enjoyed it for the first month or so. I wish they would make another game like this one, or Legends of Wrestling with improved mechanics.
I always felt that WWE 14 with 40 years of wrestlemania was a much better version of this game.
I only ever played this because it was an easy platinum trophy at the time and I still felt cheated. It just feels like a load of ideas that were half baked. Also really hated that you needed to essentially have two games to unlock the whole roster, but why would you want to play as those with a more limited move set?
This game had so much potential, but it didn’t really deliver. I appreciate what they were trying to go for, an old school style game that replicates old school wrassin.
It did give us that catchy knockoff version of Michael Haynes entrance song & it’s also the last game I ever played with my uncle before he passed away, so that’s a memory I’ll never forget.
Still salty he beat me on his first try tho. lol 😂
The only fun thing I remember from this game is The Undertaker singing Michael Hayes theme song
Even though this game wasn’t that good they had some cool features that should be in regular wrestling games
I really liked this game as a kid. I remember it being the hardest thing in the world being first to click the button and spamming the buttons. Helped me relive these huge moments as a 6/7-year-old. The managers were also a super fun addition as they were huge at the time. I wish they’d recreate the game to go alongside 2k24 or 40 years of mania is part of the showcase, it’d be awesome
I’m still mad to this day at the SvR09 roster can be expanded to LoW, but not the other way around.

Great video as ever! This was the first game I played on Xbox 360, but as I was a PlayStation guy I wasn’t sure of the button layout for the Xbox 360, so always made a mess of the QTE’s and it was pretty frustrating.
Could you maybe do a video on the mail order fantasy wrestling stuff from the 90’s? I remember seeing them in PWI back in the day where you’d send off money in the post, fill in a slip with your wrestlers name and moveset but never tried it as it was always in the USA and I was in the UK, so had no idea how it worked…also I was about 12/13 and google wasn’t a thing!
I always wanted a wrestling game that takes us back to the territory days. I wanted a huge roster of wrestlers from that time period and all the way up to the Attitude Era.
The Legends Of Wrestling games took you back to the territories.

I loved the graphics in this game, if it played like the smackdown versions this would have been amazing.
If someone could’ve done a whole game with out of 2k14 30 years of Wrestlemania showcase mode into its own game that’s what Legends of Wrestlemania should’ve and could’ve been.
2K14 is still one of my favorite WWE games. The history of WrestleMania mode was unreal for the time, even if they did leave out a couple of important matches. The beat the streak mode with Taker was also awesome, if not the most frustratingly fun mode ever made!
I think 2K14 was my favorite game because it had a good roster but more importantly it had Create a Story mode. How this mode is no longer in a wrestling game is beyond me.
“We’ll probably never see Wrestlemania 11 included in another video game as long as we live” is a line I just wasn’t ready to hear today. 😂

I remember playing this game a few years ago on the Xbox 360 and being so disappointed this game should've been better importing the smackdown vs raw 2009 roster was a cool feature awesome Video.

I played this and to be honest, I loved it at first, but it got old. I grew up with this era and the wrestlerock rumble, so it had novel walk down memory lane value.
Awesome video as always. This was actually my first (and fastest) platinum on PS3 back in the day and I have to say that back then I did really enjoy the game. However watching this video and seeing the game back again, I don't think I'd be able to get through it again now, my nostalgia for the older 'manias must have outweighed the issues with the game itself.
Wow that's detail at wm14 they have the drums sitting there because the DX band played hhh and hbk to the ring live . That's cool
I just WISH we had a rewrite/redefine mode. I’d love to see a better implementation of redoing matches/storylines with unique moments maybe.
Or heck a “What If?” Mode would be fun too! Like how would a HBK/Eddie WM 21 match work out, or Hogan/Austin at WM 18?

This game had so much potential. They definitely dropped the ball with the controls with this one. I did have fun adding the SvR 2009 roster. I went and downloaded a PS3 saved game file of SvR 09 when I bought the game lol
My biggest beefs with the game was the lack of diverse Superstars and the game play.

I remember buying this game and being drawn in with the roster and arenas…but yeah the gameplay was a huge letdown.
For some reason no matter how much button-mashing I did I could never get near kicking out of a pin. Beating an opponent up for 5 mins then being pinned after taking a hip toss was pretty deflating.
The 2k14 gamemode covering every mania from 1 to 29 is a much better way to relive wrestlemania moments in video game form

The matches and graphics looked better on here then when I played this years ago lol. The taunting was the big part of this game and mixing managers with different wrestlers was pretty cool as well over this game was 5.2
I know I am late to the party, I suck at video games so this for me, was luckily, very easy. I had a blast completed it 100% and bought the other wrestling game just to import the extra characters, still own them till this day. To each their own :) Love your videos. I am grateful for your Reliving the wars because I never was able to watch it myself. Thanks again for everything!

Although this game was not liked by many, anytime someone says WWE can't make a Ruthless Aggression video game, I use this game as an example that they can. We need a Ruthless Aggression video game. We had one for the Golden Era (Legends of Wrestlemania) and we kinda sorta had one for the Attitude Era (WWE '13). I see no reason why we can't get a Ruthless Aggression game sometime in the future.

Only game I ever 100%ed the achievements on, on PS3. Using someone else's save file for the SVR characters disabled achievements, so I did it after I got them all. lmao
I, for one, loved this game! It was the first game I got when I bought my PS3 in 2010. Granted, the controls aren’t the best, but it’s an “arcadey” button masher which makes it fair for friends that come over and have never played it before. Also, as a kid from the 80’s being able to play as all the Golden Era WWF Superstars was a lot of fun.

Iloved this game because it's the only game with all the wrestling legends in high definition,even though they botched it by not giving it, the same controls as svr, it's still a nice game.
I remember being excited for a new style of game, I skipped on SVR09, I enjoyed it for what it was. I thought it was weird Michael Hayes was in it despite not being in a single Mania match until Mania X7. I eventually figured out I can just place an SVR09 save onto my system without buying the game and I was pretty excited to double the roster length. I almost feel like this game should've been an actual arcade game rather than a "cutting edge" console game

I am one of the very few who got a lot of enjoyment out of this game, really enjoyed the WrestleMania Tour mode even if some spots in certain matches did annoy me (like walking the opponent up the ramp and him instantly walking you back down it) and I remember playing battle royals for titles a lot, but definitely believe the game was very limited

I’d like this concept to make it back into a game, this time around call it The Legend of Wrestlemania! and have this same style roster of past and present with the “story or career mode” being a showcase style mode goin over the Main Events of WM

These arenas looked beautiful. 2K should do this again with all 40 Wrestlemania arenas and a few others from key points in eras over the years. As long as it has 2K control system y’all can take my money!
That is what this wrestling game deserves a comeback for Xbox Series S/X, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. This includes all male and female 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s Wrestlemania legends as options, including creating a male or female wrestler. Max male wrestler height is 7 foot 4 inches as if max female wrestler height is 6 foot 7 inches as options.
All I ever wanted was a Smackdown or Smackdown Vs Raw game with only the Legends from their previous games but with the same controls as the other Smackdown games. (The Game would've sold itself and saved THQ for a at least a few years)

Wrestlemania XI was on WWE 2k14 too. So we saw a Wrestlemania XI Arena in a WWE Videogame again.
I had the Legends of WrestleMania with that Smackdown vs Raw 09 you could copy over a bunch of your characters from that saved into Legends of Wrestlemania
This was the first wrestling game I bought for the 360 and the first wrestling game since the original Raw game for the OG Xbox. Seeing as I had no expectations having not played a WWE game in so long, I didn't really find much fault in it. I do agree the the "Relive" mode was frustrating and why I stopped playing it.
It looks nice but the gameplay isn't key will that Button Prompts is distracting and the speed is looks rough.
Dang, the look of the game seems pretty nice for the time. It's a shame it wasn't a little better or more polished.

I'm an old school fan so I appreciated it for what it was, which we could get a 2, with modern update mechanics and graphics
I liked this game when it first came out, but everything I liked about the game was done way better with the Wrestlemania Moments mode in WWE 2k14, so I never went back to it. I never had to buy Smackdown v Raw 2009 to unlock that roster, as it only required a rental that cost a couple of dollars for one night.
I got this game for a £1 a while back and i found it ok fun if you arent expecting much other than some classic wrestlers and a bit of nostalgia at full price i would have been so annoyed. Legend of wrestling showdown should be covered in comparison another not so good game but with some roster

I remember when this came out, I almost got it when I found out you could transfer your roster. I changed my mind because I heard it sucked.
So I wonder how wrestlers imported from SVR2009 played, especially CAWs. I would imagine the controls being dumbed down would make a difference.
I actually had this it was pretty good based off the nostalgia and for people like me who was born to remember most of the wrestlemanias but the controls were damn near all the place they should’ve made another legends of wrestling
I actually really liked this game. It was a ton of fun but I hated the golf swing pin mechanic. To me that was the biggest flaw of the game, not the QTE. Also, it would have been really cool to have extra arenas like a Superstars, Raw and I dunno, Wrestling Challenge or something. But overall a decent game to me.
As a kid I loved this game, especially the WM Tour mode. It was a fun history lesson on wrestling’s past.
I think this time in the WWE games history had games that had a purpose but didn't quite know what their place. LOW & All Stars were arcade style entry level games that should have great been for a younger audience while SVR should have been the annual simulation style game that is for a mature audience with more violence, weapons etc and more in depth game modes.
I remember loving this game for the visuals and presentation alone …It’s not a pick up and play by the stretch but if your a sucker for anything nostalgic in WWE you’ll find enjoyment from it in someway
I wish they'd do a new style of game like this in that it's composed of iconic characters/legends throughout the years and basically make it an elaborate greatest hits of WWF/WCW/ECW. I've noticed many of the current day games have really large rosters but the issue for me is I don't really care about 75% of them, only the legends lol.
Thankfully Blockbuster was still around in my town when this game came out, this was the very definition of a "rent don't buy" game.
The only Game I manage to go for 100% achievements on. I stop as I struggled with the Rock vs Austin match where it was damn near impossible to get that specific trophy. All and all I got more enjoyment out of this game than most.

They actually need to do a legends video game series. A series of games just for the Legends if they took there time developing it it could be a awesome game. Maybe one day they will revisit a legends game .
I wanted this to be the "proper"... or officially licensed version of "Legends of Wrestling"... which despite it's glaring flaws, I actually had quite a bit of fun with... still do. Love the roster, and they nailed the feel of the old territory days.
Oh, how disappointed I was when "Legends of Wrestlemania" came out... and after a day, I felt like I would rather go back to "LoW".
Haven't played "LoWM" since. Probably never will. I hate QTEs in the best of scenerios... but they are insufferable in a wrestling game. What a terrible idea.

I wouldn't mind if the legends were kept to their own games like in Legends of Wrestlemania, but separate the different eras.
I don't like seeing Andre the Giant performing an Enziguri, so limiting him to an 80s era Legends of Wresltemania game would be great that way everyone in that game can lumber around like they used back in that era.
Then have the Attitude Era be its own game.
Bring back that import feature for those who want it.
Plus that might mean 2K would have to implement more modern hairstyles and remove the dreadful old 80s haircuts from the current games.

For me Legends of Wrestlemania is a what it could of been. This game from the visuals to being able to import wrestlers from the other game was hands down incredible. I played this game a lot back in the day nostalgia 😂. Playing the modes like the relive rewrite an Legend killer modes were ok to me I like how 5he developers wanted to do it. Another thing about this game that really was a dropped ball was not having MACHO MAN RANDY SAVAGE. I mean it made no sense to not have him he is a Wreslemania Legend in every sense of the world all I have to say is Steamboat VS Savage. Another reason why Showdown Legends of Wrestling was way MORE BETTER. An also the gameplay in LOW was not a good thing if only that just use SVR 09s gameplay. Once again AMAZING Vid ❤
They should have added a bigger roster Randy Savage, Diesel, Razor Ramon, Tatanka, I.R.S, Rick Martel, Earthquake & Typhoon, Marty Jannetty, Papa Shango, Crush, Kerry Von Erich, The 123 Kid & Jeff Jarrett
