This one looks at the TNA iMPACT video game that was released in 2008. iMPACT was developed by Midway Studios just before they went bankrupt, the game was praised for it's graphics at the time and wrestling fans were impressed with the character models in the game too, but it's a wrestling video game that doesn't get much praise today due to how limited it could be in terms of gameplay. The roster featured names like Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, Abyss, Kurt Angle, Kevin Nash, Eric Young and Sting - and the story mode also transferred into real life when the main character became a real wrestler on TNA progamming.
This video looks at everything TNA iMPACT had to offer including the full story mode.
I truly think the game was an excellent starting off point. If they could have built upon it, it would have been something really special. What could have been.
A sequal would have Ben amazing. The tna game sold really well and if ea had made we would get sequal
@@wingedhussar1453 there was a sequel in development before midway went bust, apparently according to Samoa joe in an interview they were almost done with a demo to showcase its progress until midway filed for bankruptcy
@J1897 yea so I heard to but rumors going around the time was that after the midway bust they wanted to use most of the work and finish the sequal but for some reason it never happened and they just did those psp and ds ports. Shame nobody picked it up
the sequel was in development then Midway was acquired by THQ and it was reworked into WWE All Stars (which also should have gotten a sequel...)
@@GaryMcAnim o i didnt know midway leftovers were bought by thq ,now it makes snse
Man, I miss this era of TNA. It was a proper alternative to WWE. I remember getting this game on launch day and not being disappointed in the slightest.
TNA was better at this point imo.
Despite some problems, This game does some things right. The story mode was wild, The graphics were beautiful and gameplay was fun.
@Doctor Manhattan bro wrestler height aren’t even true in real life. undertaker is not 6’10, Chris Jericho is only 5’10 but they put him at 6’0 they lie all the time.
@@KingJadInfiniteHope
That is not the point lol
@@KingJadInfiniteHope You think Nash isn't a legit 7 footer? Rofl
@@KingJadInfiniteHope ya kinda missed the point, unless you think all wrestlers are literally the same height?
@@Big.Stepper. did you see Kevin Nashs mugshot? There you can see his real hight
~RIP Don West~
Perc angle as a world champion boss is truly terrifying
It's DAMN TRUE!!
Peak Angle.
We don't do that here, Joker.
Peak Angle is a good name
His mixing skills with music is out of this world underrated. Like, I cannot begin to explain to you just how much.
Heck how he incorporated Em's Lose Yourself with Christian's theme at the end was awesome!
He should have a chamnel just fir his mixes
u know nonthing about mixing why speak a remix is differrent then mixing that mix is not peerfect its a good remix bu the songs were already mixed and mastered u cant do more mixing and have i remain perfect
Ya I need that AJ Remix now!!!😅
11:30 ICP were huge in those backyard wrestling games, I love how the same developers snuck them in💚
I just LOVED that game! It had a small yet epic roster! Christian Cage, Jeff Jarrett, Kurt Angle, Sting, AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Booker T, Scott Steiner, Lethal, Dudleys, Kevin Nash, LAX, Rhyno, Roode.... It was different in a nice way gameplay wise and the story was amazing and creative. None of the reliving past laziness we're stuck with now. Moves felt more impactful, the graphics were so realistic for the time and the six sided ring was a unique experience that I wish TNA kept using. I was addicted to it back in the day! Wish both TNA and their games had more success and stayed relevant and managed to actually compete with WWE. Would've been good for all parties specially the fans!
I loved the game too! It was so much fun! Loved the story mode
Rockstar developing an TNA game is definitely a what if scenario
Already said this in a separate comment but the best thing about it would be the potential to blend that gameplay into GTA. Imagine being able to suplex someone onto a car. Or you drag a pedestrian to a nearby table and powerbomb em through it
Shotgun on a pole match
Take two owns Rockstar and 2k so I'm sure some employees worked on similar projects
It wasn't the worst game I've played, It took time to understand it. The controls we're rough, overall it was fun
I had a great time with TNA Impact. I remember the story mode better than in most smackdown vs raw games. Eric Young going “you smell like bananas” never gets old.
Sonjay Dutt was OP
His finisher was faster then the others so if you had a multiman match just throw everyone but the guy your going to pin out and hit it and they had no chance of stopping it
People may balk at the idea of TNA having a video game made, but when you look back at 2008 they had one of the strongest rosters in their promotions history. Also depending on personal opinion, they would soon reach their highest popularity, with the TNA Originials going against the Main Event Mafia. Maybe it wasn't a smart idea to make a video game to compete with WWE's Smackdown VS Raw series, but they were never going to have another opportunity like the one they had at that time.
It's not a weird idea at all for anyone who lived through that wrestling gen. TNA was quite popular at the time, not close to WWE but because of guys like Angle over there they had some legitimacy, plus guys like AJ and Samoa Joe were over across the non-WWE scene. It's difficult to imagine that now with everything either WWE or AEW and the indie scene essentially dead.
Who balked? I just wish it were a good game like No Mercy
R.I.P Don West
If TNA games had the same time as WWE games (which is over 10 years) I think TNA would be competing against the WWE games with multiple scenarios with sequel TNA games.
I miss salty biscuits 😂
Finally some TNA coverage on here! So much material there, a best of Eric Young video would be a perfect follow up to this 👌
I loved how well they captured the characters in this game. Did not love facing Nash in that storyline mode, took me and my mates a while to beat big sexy.
Knowing Rockstar Games was a choice does arouse my curiosity on what a Rockstar wrestling game would've been.
It's crazy how the graphics are better than the upcoming AEW game.
Not better, just a different style.
Grow up.
AEW gameplay > TNA graphics
@@pafoneto1275 Exactly. These so called gamers this generation don't know anything.
@@Matthew-LAMF where did a judge the gameplay? I was talking about the graphics.
@@christophermarriott1681 the games not even out yet, how can you judge the gameplay?
The pin system is what killed this game for me. To kick out you gotta destroy your left stick by moving it left and right. The other thing is that most finishers would result in a automatic pin that you couldnt release as the player.
This series had amazing potential...just imagine playing King of the mountain matches
It's a shame that they never made a 2nd game
@PAYLAMARJACKSON tht wasn't even a sequal just a ds conversion
Midway going out of business didn’t help either.
@PAYLAMARJACKSON it's on psp as well
Half the roster was gone 6 months after this come out
well, they kind of did, the developers of this game also made wwe all stars.
This game is:
A) Highly underrated
B) Looks better than many modern wrestling games
C) Features Shark boy
👏 👏
"Give me a shell yeah!!!"
I remember the wrestler Doink Hogan from down South in México. Still can recite his most famous catchphrase: ¡Eso no funciona para mi, hermano!
“It’s the kind of game Davey Boy Smith would absolutely hate.” 😂😂
Man we need a channel just for your mixes, these are amazing.
That Lose Yourself Christian Cage mix at the end took me by surprise.
I loved this game! Had it's own style and loved the characters coming to life, wish we'd had more TNA games.
TNA had a pretty damn good roster back then.
Had a lot of missing people
@@FazeRustyNuts ya for sure it is. I just haven’t watched tna in ages and forgot just how good their roster was.
Nice to see more TNA content here
The story mode was a nightmare
I’m still playing WWE 2K13 and have introduced my kid to wrestling via the Attitude mode. A brilliant game. Worth a review.
Loved wwe 13, besides the glitch bugs lol
it is wwe 13 by thq not 2k...
@@cankarahan8013 so long ago that game came out I forgot 😂😂 first comment got me saying 2k13….🤦♂️
@@JuwanAnderson58 it is ok. Just saying even wwe 2k14 was made by thq. 2k just got the rights for publishing...
In a word...yes.
If you managed to get your opponent on the ground, there are a few frames of animation when he's getting up that make your strikes unblockable.
This means even on the hardest difficulty you can win any match by spamming Strong Kick at the right time.
I had this game for the Wii, no regrets buying it. Not the greatest wrestling game, but an enjoyable one overall
Had it for the Wii as well! Was amazed when I found out that you could actually customize Suicide in the other ports of the game lol
Me too! I kinda liked how clunky yet intriguing it was. I remember having to really TRY to win those matches because it wasn’t as easy as a WWE game. Those matches in Mexico at the start had me sooo mad 😭
Yeah the game isn't perfect but it's not terrible either I think TNA IMPACT was a good game.
TNA content on here!! Awesome! Am I remembering it right, Low Ki voiced 'Sue' in this game??
Only thing missing from that game for me was some double J double M A!
It was cool to see a TNA game in the late 2000s. By the 7th gen, there weren't many alternatives to WWE wrestling games. There was this and Fire Pro Wrestling Returns on the PS2, but that was basically it.
Wrestle Kingdom 2 was awesome. But yeah, Japanese only
It used the same engine as the DOR games which was cool to see on PS2
it’s not a good game imo BUT that’s because,
1. not enough content, the story mode isn’t that long, not enough match types and weapons.
2. the gameplay wasn’t polished enough, this same team made WWE All Stars and they made the gameplay/controls smoother.
3. this game came out after Smackdown Vs Raw 2007, imo the best wrestling game ever made and easily the best SVR game. (the latter part i know most of you can agree on).
with that being said, i’d still rather play this over any wwe game from 2k15 - current day.
Crazy how they never made another game especially during or after 2010 when they acquired more stars!!
I loved this game personally, then again I was 10 when it came out.
its funny how this is 10 years old and still has better graphics then AEW fight forever
I remember a LOT of the TNA superstars move sets were preset on Smackdown V RAW 2008. This Smackdown game was the last game I owned in this genre probably because I thought it was the best for gameplay, roster and GM mode.
I guess you could say, as far as wrestling video games go, this game didn’t really leave much of an “impact”
I really enjoyed tna impact back in the day the problem with it it felt unfinished but I enjoyed it ultimate x matches with friends were brilliant fun you should give lucha Libra hero del ring ago it’s very similar to tna impact as well
The biggest complaint I had was there was no title matches available with TNA having some of the most beautiful belts such a missed opportunity
The move animations in this game were so smooth. It's a shame that the movesets were fairly limited, but this could've easily been improved upon in a sequel. It looked gorgeous too.
Short answer: No. It took a little time to get the hang of the game. When I did. I am eventually tried it on higher difficulties. Sweaty matches 😅. But good fun though.
Shame there wasn't a real sequel. I even still have my PS3 copy of the game.
Please give us more TNA content! I went to college just a few hours away from Nashville so I was a big TNA fan for a lot of the 2000s, and have almost as much nostalgia for those days as in the Monday Night Wars
I’ve said the same thing. I love his work, but it seems like he’s a huge mark for wwe and wcw. That’s mainly all he discusses.
Absolutely agreed!!
I died laughing watching through story mode. "No good stinking hyena." 🤣
Young AJ Styles takes me back. Get Ready To Fly. CAW is kinda lame. The roster is awesome and peak TNA Impact Wrestling.
You have very honest reviews. Would love to see you review the new AEW game when it comes out.
I 2nd this
Yeah, whenever that is 😂. I agree, though. It’s hard to trust anyone who gets their hands on a copy before release.
Agreed!!!!
TNA in these days was the best alterntive to WWE.
AEW still isnt what TNA once was in my opinion
They Made Double J The Final Boss Over Sting And Angle.
lol
I will never understand why every wrestling game doesn’t copy Smackdown! HCTP. That game is 100 times better than No Mercy and it has great controls, just copy the scheme.
First we have hawk Hogan now doink Hogan. Everyone wants to the hulkster these days
Wow. How coincidental. I bought this game YESTERDAY. 2 dollars at a thrift store. Played two matches so far so i cant really give my opinion yet
Still got my copy for the Xbox 360. Got it autographed by Kevin Nash
By the way, SO HAPPY to have got another Wrestling Bios game video! Hope the Nintendo DS TNA Cross the Line comes soon :) And if that AEW game ever comes, gotta do like a extra long review!
I think its in the same boat as Mayhem. Ok for a first try and a proper sequel (in other words not backstage assault in the case of Mayhem lol) that built upon and expanded what was done here could have been interesting and a decent alternative to being stuck with WWE when it comes wrestling games
I really liked WWE All Stars, but I never played this. This always seemed like it was a decent game.
Didn't think I would be watching a TNA impact game video today. I haven't played that game in years since it came out well, pretty much agree with what you said, especially about the story mode dragging on great video. I enjoyed it
Back then i remember getting suprised about the graphics and one thing that i had never seen in svr.
Breaking up moves even as animations were happening was game changing for me at the time even though wwe games added that later
I’m sorry, but that Eminem x Christian Cage mashup is FIRE
As soon as I heard Lose Yourself, I was 17 again
The game had good things going for it. It was a solid platform for what could have been a great sequel.
The worst part was breaking the stick to kick out of a pin.
Having footage of Hogan fading in and out was a nice touch. XD
Shame this came out before the Knockouts became real big. Would have been neat to see the gorgeous Velvet Sky in the game.
Nah, it was great fun. And any game with Scott Steiner automatically gets a thumbs up from me.
Where do you find these songs you use for your videos? The Take Over/Lose Yourself Mashup is amazing! Another great video btw
I still have a sealed copy. I never opened and never played.
thanks for reminding me it’s either Sunday, Tuesday or Thursday. Love the work, man.
The AEW game seems like it will be great if it ever comes out ! I hear it uses the gameplay style of No Mercy which was my fave . We will see . One day . Maybe .
The game was great, especially for a first attempt and the first Wrestling game from another company other than WWE in a long time. They put a lot of work into making the Wrestling gameplay feel so real and different to what the action on WWE Smackdown Vs Raw offered at the time. The Suicide storyline was very good. It's not perfect and at the time WWE were offering a few different Stories for certain Superstars but IMPACT offered a story with a lot of fun in its own right. They were able to make match concepts like Ultimate X so fun to play. I missed the King Of The Mountain match and hoped that would be a future thing with other hopes for follow ups. Much like their TV and PPV product- They weren't direct competition to the WWE and kept on growing as its own thing and they made the game something different too. This is why I haven't been so excited for AEW Fight Forever and why I only catch AEW sometimes and prefer IMPACT, WWE and NJPW programming. I want AEW to succeed but I feel the product needs to focus on growing more as its own thing and not just the other big spending company that wants to take the WWE which is how it comes across at times. It's no coincidence that TNA/IMPACT kept growing rapidly as a brand that not only offered another big wrestling company but also offered things the WWE didn't and in the long run Hogan trying to recreate the wars and make the product more WWE like set the company back and Anthem had a big rebuilding job and they're getting there. Slower than fans would hope at times but IMPACT under Anthem is back to focusing on itself again. AEW or TK rather should put less focus on how they compare to WWE and just make fans see what AEW can offer as more than competition.
I digress, and I know we're talking about the game. IMPACT the game was released when the company had been around over 6 years. The AEW Game feels like it went into production mere weeks after Dynamite started! I'm just wondering and hoping that Omega and others working on it had a true vision to offer something WWE 2K isn't gonna be offering. In summary: IMPACT was banging. Even for a first game and I wish they had followed it up. Anthem's gradual rebuilding of the company is working though. I believe in time the company can reach where they where and beyond under much more compenent management. Come that day hopefully they will still have interest in a gaming franchise. Great upload as usual but also thank you for what I would call a very interesting yet out of the box topic, mate. Thank you 🤘💯
The gameplay looks like a discount WWE: All-Stars.
Was the TNA Android game really that good?!
Love to see the Ultimate X match back in a game again, if Impact goes under someone, AEW or whomever should keep that match concept alive.
With the TNA engine they made a AAA game i mean the mexican promotion that no one ever talk about its really mid but still no one talk about this game !!!
Oh, WWE All-Stars uses the exact same engine as TNA Impact, as does a later luchador wrestling game, that's essentially a re-skin of Impact.
All these jabs about hogan like at 14:33 is pure gold
Doink Hogan brah, making brothers cry brah!
Man of culture
I honestly loved this game
Great memories of this game and looking back it was expertly used as another avenue to put over the roster, Trumpian business move from Jeff n co 👌
I loved this game it was different then SVR that’s for sure but the gameplay was fun
I enjoyed this game. I was devastated when I found out they weren't making a sequel as I was sure they would :(
Love your coverage of video games!
Wasn't there a PS2 version too? With a different story mode or something like that?
Yet another Wrestling Bios W! Keep it up goat.
Great overview I used to play this game on the PSP and it looked amazing but I never finished the story. I think I will go back to give it another go
5:31 I can't be the only one that heard him rapping through the narration alongside the background music 🤣
Loved this game no matter how horrible it was. Wish impact would come out with a new game. Imagine if EA came out with an impact game. Epic for sure.
Double J was like Super Cena in this 😂 Use to hate that final fight
17:46 "He remembers that he isn't really Hulk Hogan, he's a man named Sue."
Can't decide if he made that joke on purpose or pure coincidence. For those that haven't heard of it, "A Boy Name Sue" is a famous Johnny Cash song.
AEW and MLW and NWA and ROH and TNA and AJPW and NJPW and AAA and CMLL and NOAH and WWC and ZERO - 01
We need another TNA game.
TNA can't even afford that nowadays
I remember playing this game in a stream and rage quit (which is a rarity) during Story Mode in the early match against James Storm.
I had this game on my Wii! I kinda liked how clunky yet intriguing it was. I remember having to really TRY to win those matches because it wasn’t as easy as a WWE game. Those matches in Mexico at the start had me sooo mad having to restart 😭
LOL at that jab at Hogan saying traveling so frequently added days to his schedule.
Funny thing about Jeff Jarrett. I always found him hard to pin BUT he was easy to make tap out via submission.
7:48 I had to double take and rewind if I heard that right. God bless his soul…but dang man…this IS Davey Boy’s Nightmare!
