    We're in an age of 1000 hp+ turbo V8s but making 700 hp in 1993 with only 5.0 liters and a centrifugal supercharger is impressive!

      @vbprog225 7 лет назад +29

      Yeah and in the early 80's the formula 1 cars at 1.5l were producing 1000hp in race (not qualifying) trim. This mustang is meant to represent a street car not some factory backed race car running with parts no mere mortal can attain. Stop being such a Mercedes fanboy.

    • @Lrules364
      @Lrules364 6 лет назад +1

      You think thats something? Take a look at the Quad 4 and its feats. It was pushing this kind of power through 2 production model cars when it hit over 200 mph. On 4 cylinders. Half of what this mustang needed. And the Aerotech and its experimental motor is even crazier yet. It was pushing 290+mph on the straights through a 11-1400 hp Quad 4.

    • @Toniebones
      @Toniebones 6 лет назад +10

      LRulesTheWorld the fact that your thinking a road car can go 290 which hasn't been done even to day, and to say that was done in the 90s completely invalidates your argument

    • @Lrules364
      @Lrules364 6 лет назад

      Anthony Torres the koingsegg and bugatti are both running for top speed. Right now, koingsegg holds the production car record at 284. But Oldsmobile holds the prototype record speed trap at 290+ for any 4 cylinder. Its not an arguement, its a fact. Look it up right here on youtube.

    • @Toniebones
      @Toniebones 6 лет назад

      LRulesTheWorld lol what year are you in, the buggatti Chiron failed when trying to beet the venom gt at 271, so they went for quickest acceleration and quickest deceleration from 0kph to 400kph which koenisegg beat like the next week, the genome still holds title at 271, while they made an f5 hoping for 300 plus

      Goes to show how light those cars were, 202mph with just bolt ons, back then when they weren't as high tech as they are today, especially considering that they still couldn't get the "trinity" 2014 mustang cobra to hit 200 even with a pro driver behind the wheel.

    • @hiphopaddict007
      @hiphopaddict007 7 лет назад +2

      rhino250r Well... to a point. Those older 5 liters we're not exactly designed handle more than 500 horsepower. Those Motors will start to tear themselves apart above that. The later 4.6 OHV variants are much more easily modified. They're still great Motors don't get me wrong. They just don't like a lot of hp mods. I'm not talking about the 93 Cobra motor btw. They may have made some upgrades to that engine design as it was built by SVT.

    • @falconater68
      @falconater68 5 лет назад +3

      @@hiphopaddict007 HAHA the 4.6 is much more easily modified? That explains why you never see them.

    • @jrhlogan
      @jrhlogan 4 года назад

      @@hiphopaddict007 SVT was still working on the 5 liter Windsor platform. The difference between a Cobra's motor and a GT's motor was the intake manifold, throttle body, camshaft and exhaust headers (maybe but I don't quite remember exactly). SVT didn't put any reinforcement braces on the 93 Cobra's engine block so it wouldn't make any sense that it would be able to handle upwards of 500hp.

    Ken Dutweiler who built the engine became famous for basically being the first to tune the Buick Grand National turbo cars. He was building and making speed parts for the GN in the mid 80's and getting ridiculous power from those Buicks. If I'm not mistaken he switched over to the Fox Mustangs later or built both. He was on the cutting edge at the beginning phases of computerized horsepower...

    Fox body 5.0 with just 205hp would do over 140mph if the diff was changed so the 5th gear wasn't a stupidly long 43mph/1000rpm. It was actually more aerodynamic than the GT500 of 2013, that needed 660bhp net to do just shy of 200mph. This needed less than 600.

    • @jbouchard4877
      @jbouchard4877 7 лет назад +2

      I had a automatic 1993 fox-body Mustang LS with either 215 or 225 hp and I got it up to 140 mph. That was on an interstate hwy and it took a few miles to get there. It did 140 and no more. I gave it plenty of time but 140 was the top speed. It was all stock but I think the LS 5.0's were lighter. I had a stock 1994 LT1 Camaro M-6 and I got it to 155 mph. There might have been a little more but I was not on an interstate and was coming close to a broad curve and had to let off. I also had a 300zx twin turbo 5 speed with aftermarket turbo's, 555 cc injectors, computer reprogram w/removed speed limiter and other mods running 18 to 21 psi of boost and I got the speedometer to the 6 o-clock position which is about 190 mph with 18 lbs of boost which was about 550 hp at the wheels. I never tried that again. Just to damn fast for me.

      @blackericdenice the stock 5.0L heads and intake are huge restrictions. Put all the cam you want in it. It's not going to make power unless you change those items before you change the cam. The stock 5.0L cam is anything huge. But with good heads a good intake and boost the stock cam will make 500hp all day. You won't make 500hp with the stock heads or intake.

    I'm surprised the Foxbody was considered stable at those speeds. This car didn't seem to have crazy aero mods either. I always thought the short wheelbase of the Foxbody would make it a nightmare at high speeds. Hats off to Ford. Especially when you remember that the Foxbody came out in '78.

    This was the last year of the Fox Body Mustang. After GM released their venerable F-Body's with a fuel injected 5.7L V8 in 1993 Ford decided to up their game as well. Now, of course this engine on display is beastly just like all small block V8's but Ford wanted to move away from the pushrod. I personally still much prefer the pushrod and cast iron blocks because they can take more abuse than an aluminum one.
    This notion that people have today that you need a 6.2/6.4 liter or bigger engine to go fast is ludicrous. It's like the same people give the little 4 cylinder Honda's a pass but say utter nonsense like the 5.7L is a slow engine. I would challenge anyone of them to go mess with a Lingenfelter Corvette with a 5.7L or this Mustang. I wonder what it felt like to go 200mph in a Fox Body? I bet she felt like she was on ice. I had a friend back in 2001 that had a WS6 that was hitting 196mph with spray and she was squirrely at 170...196 was downright scary. I rode with him one time when he did it on the Interstate at 3:00 AM. His car made my 2002 Firehawk look like it was a Pinto even in 2002. He totaled his WS6 in late 2003 when a stupid tuner moron got pissed he lost and ran him into a guard rail sending the car over an over-pass. I chosed him down in my Firehawk and made sure the cops knew right where he was.

      Harry Callahan : No. An F40 Ferrari proved you only need 471 net flywheel horsepower if your aero is good. The road load at 201.5 mph requires about 400 hp at the wheels to drive a 20 sq foot frontal area with a 0.35 cd factor. The Mustang Cobra 200 had 740 "gross" hp at 6500 to 6800 rpm, but probably only 530 hp "net" at 7200 rpm. Based on Richard Holdeners engine dyno work with WesTech, Gross corrected engine dyno hp without ancillaries verses Rated versions of SAE net hp with all the water pump, fans, alternator and heat soak and sterner baro and temp corrections is about a factored loss of 1.3 to 1.4 different. But only 526 hp net at the flywheel was all that was needed to make a small frontal area Aero Mustang half a mph faster than an F40 Ferrari.
