The mid 2000s was a great time to be a Ford guy. They do retro styling better than anyone else, and I would still say that GT is one of the most beautiful cars ever made, even almost 20 years later
The 2005 Ford GT is one of my all-time favorite cars. Just at look at how she dances. Love at first site. The '05 Mustang looks wicked cool, especially in that minty green. The cars of my childhood.

That Ford GT is one of my dream cars and it is still one of the most beautiful cars to ever roll on 4 wheels. It still has very impressive performance numbers in 2021. Crazy to think the new 2020 Ford Mustang Ecoboost with the High Performance Package is a turbocharged 4 that has more horsepower at 330+ than this 2005 Ford Mustang GT V8 and all with better fuel economy. Wow, that is what you call progress. I definitely wouldn't mind owning one. Thanks for these retro reviews. They really help tp put in perspective both what we have lost and what we have gained in the automotive world.

@@StandingUpForBetter I can read. You distinctly stated that your little turbo 4 popper has more hp @ 330+ than the 2005 Ford GT V8. Modern boosted V8s are putting down over 800 hp, compared to your turbo 4 @ 330. Everything is relative.
@@Lucille69caddy You are right! Thanks for the proof reading. I just fixed it. You do read closely. I am sorry. I left out the word "Mustang". As you know, you can boost just about anything for insane numbers but making that engine last and backing it up with a multi-year warranty is something else. Sadly, I don't have a turbo 4 Mustang but hope to get one, one day. I live in very expensive CA where gas is high, home prices are high and politicians are set on stealing more money from tax payers despite people like me trying to expose them. Because of all this a RWD turbo 4 Mustang with 330+ horse power (aka the heart of the amazing Ford Focus RS) and great fuel economy combined with a 6-speed manual sounds great but for about the same money, Nissan has done a fantastic job with the upcoming Nissan Z with its 400 HP twin turbo V-6 and a 6-speed manual. Oh you mean the piece of crap that has eclipsed every performance category of the old V8? And has even won endurance races against other high level cars...Yeah reeeeaaaaalllllll POS.....
Well the first part of your statement was a bit underwhelming. I think the new car is a performance marvel but I have to agree that its not worth $400k or whatever they are asking. Maybe $200-$250k completely optioned out.
automan224 the new GT does not have an automatic transmission. It has a sequential manual. It has a clutch pedal. It's not an automatic. I agree the new GT is expensive, but it is literally a racecar and last time I checked racecars are very expensive. The new GT out performs the old GT in every way.
I think you need DOHC to operate more than 2 valves (I know it’s technically possible to run 2 intake valves and 1/2 exhaust valves from a single OHC, but not really practical and rarely done). Could be wrong though. I had never thought about it before, but I assumed they were SOHC as well.

05 to 09 feels nostalgic even if its slow
For its time it wasn't. Even now, 5.2 0-60 with only 300hp is still decent.
They can actually do 60 inn4.8 seconds that ain’t nowhere slow even for today’s standards but some Z kids think 800 hp is a shit but any car with over 500 hp is useless if you cannot handle the power.
This is the TRUE Ford GT I know and love. Not that new Automatic V6 POS
Oh you mean the piece of crap that has eclipsed every performance category of the old V8? And has even won endurance races against other high level cars...Yeah reeeeaaaaalllllll POS.....
Hugh Janus if I wanted an automatic v6 I would’ve purchased a Honda Accord. This old Ford GT IMO is worth its asking price. The new one isnt
The new GT out performs the old GT in every way.
automan224 The new one not only exceeds the old gt's performance in every way but it also feels better to drive like more nimble/fun/soulful to drive.
Wish it was 143k now!!
I always thought the 05-09 3V mustang GTs were SOHC no??
I think you need DOHC to operate more than 2 valves (I know it’s technically possible to run 2 intake valves and 1/2 exhaust valves from a single OHC, but not really practical and rarely done). Could be wrong though. I had never thought about it before, but I assumed they were SOHC as well.
Dr. Lyle Evans they are sohc 3V ford never changed to DOHC 4V until the 2011 5.0 coyote motor
Dear Motorweek, you are upsetting your viewer base by calling 2005 "retro". Not that I mind - I think it's hilarious - but folks are in tears down here in the comments section.
The Naked Argonian 2007 is retro. There, you happy?
That was 13 years ago. Ages ago in car tech
13 Years is over a decade that’s retro
Like I said, it doesn't bother me - my own opinion isn't relevant here. I'm just making an observation of the comments section.
13 years ago still feels like yesterday... and then I realise how much daily life changed.
Loooooove this car
Why do they take out the hub caps?
