Fox Body Mustang - The Science Explained

- The Fox Body Mustang set the template for all future Ford Mustangs. Today, Ford's V8 powered flagship pony car uses the same balance of fuel efficiency and power that the Foxbody set over 30 years ago. It was the muscle car that finally pulled Ford out of the hangover following the 70's oil crisis. All it took was space age computer technology, wind tunnels, and sticking a cat in the exhaust. With all of these things the Foxy body is Ford’s greatest underdog... underfox? UNDERFOX!

Even if hated, the air in the cities really improved.
I remember when my dad exchanged the old clunker to a car with a cat.
Sorry, it helps so much.
And if you miss performance, there are extra racing cats woth larger surface.
I’m an engineer as well. My first car was a 65’ Mustang. I eventually had an 85’ GT, my son now has an 87’ GT. Simply explanation of what the cat does is it gets heated by exhaust gasses and the heat causes excess fuel gasses and oxygen to burn off before it leaves the tail pipe. NO cat increases power, ALL cats rob power. If you want a power increase removing them or hollowing them will work to varying levels. Performance cats ARE restrictive. If your state doesn’t inspect cars; add headers, ditch the cats, 1/2inch bigger tubes and low restriction mufflers will give your car back the power restrictively systems rob.

Hey Donut, big fan here and an engineer myself. After watching half this video, I feel like I need to tell you guys you need to fact check your info you are sharing. First off, general motors designed and implemented sequential fuel injection first in the early 90s. Ford did not have the technology to do a sequential fuel injection until 1996. The EECV4 was not capable of handling eight independent injectors and timing eight independent cylinders for the correct amount of fuel as you guys stated in your video. The fuel injected 5.0L is a bank fire fuel injection system, meaning the left bank will fire all four injectors, then the right bank will fire all four injectors. For sequential fuel injection to work, you need high resolution tone rings on the cam and crank. You need to have references for each cylinder in order to meter fuel correctly to those cylinders. The 5.0L uses a 1 tooth ring for the camshaft (distributor) and no crankshaft sensor.
Finally, someone isn't screaming at me... I'm glad you are there!
Jeremiah you do an absolutely amazing job of explaining things down and simplifying things so everyone can understand them. Have you ever thought about taking apart and rebuilding a motor on camera.
