    Nice but the only suggestion I have is the order of doing things. I do basically everything you just did but in this order : Drain the fuel and run the mower dry. While the engine is still warm, drain the oil. Now here is where I differ. Now that you have No Fuel AND No Oil in the mower, NOW is a better time to flip it over to clean, sharpen blades remove wheels, etc. BEFORE adding oil back into the machine. This way you really don't have to worry about which way your flipping it and I also remove the spark plug and put some oil in it before I put it to top dead center. Just my way/order of doing it. Leave the oil refill for last.

    That's a great lawn mower. My mower is a Craftsman branded Murray that was picked up from the curb that somebody was getting rid of. Had a sign on it that said "free, won't start". I opened up the air box and the filter was so full of dirt and grass clippings the engine couldn't breathe. With no air filter it started in 2 pulls. Did the basic maintenance to it and I'm still using that machine today. This was back in 2013 when I rescued it. I'm still amazed at people who buy things and then don't try to even learn how to properly take care of them. $5 for a filter but they'd rather go and buy a whole new lawn mower 🤦

    Im from Melbourne Australia, and I have never done anything to park my lawnmower or weed whacker for winter . I’ve never drained petrol , engine oil or put any petrol stabiliser in the fuel tank.
    I’ve never ever had any issues my equipment have always started easy.
    I’m guessing our fuel in Australia must be of better quality. The fuel is often 1 year old and I don’t have any issues with starting or performance.

      @@GarageGear It’s summer over here in Australia at the moment and I’m still using fuel that that I bought last summer. I have a 60 yr old B&S lawnmower yes 60 yr old . and have a Stihl fs45 weed whacker . I find it bizarre that over in the USA you guys run into so many issues if you don’t winterize your equipment. In Melbourne our grass goes dormant for 3 months in winter so we don’t start cutting grass until spring.
      It might be a combination of the quality of the fuel and that our temperatures rarely drop below 32c Fahrenheit . A typical winter night will sit around 42c.

      It seems they’re pretty specific with which engines go where! I’ve heard nothing but great things about their commercial 21” mower engines. Would love to get my hands on one of them!

    I love your videos talking about your small engines! I’ve learned a lot from you and I’ve noticed over the last couple of years of following your steps on small engines that they run a lot better and start up first pull of the season. I’m curious as to what your thoughts are on “engine storage spray” ? Do you think it’s a waste of money/time? I’ve been using it but sometimes wonder if it’s more of a money grab/scam.

    Thanks, new sub, been watching your videos. I'm close to pulling the trigger on a new HONDA before they step out of the lawnmower business. I see you use an HRN series. Think the HRX is worth the extra bucks?
    Cheers

    • @GarageGear
      @GarageGear  Год назад

      Hey Smokey! The HRX has a durable plastic deck that won’t rust, better wheels and a bigger slightly thirstier engine. The hrn is a good model but the decks after just a few short years start to show signs of corrosion. Not exactly a deal breaker but you definitely get some better quality parts on the HRX! Very good video my only caution would be DO NOT water wash the hydrostatic blade control or variable speed control propelled mowers since they will seize up. The owners manual will warn against this area being washed. At Eliminator we are using Gulf Pro Fuels alkylate engineered fuel which they say is good for 5 years and it is made in the good old USA it never fails to start right up.

    • @GarageGear

      Hey Dragin! This is a great mower for sure! I’m going to do a full review on it soon! The cut quality is superb! I would also look at an older toro super recycler or the current super recycler with the Honda engine if you’re willing to spend a little more.! The older toro super recyclers are great if you can find one. Look for the ones with the aluminum decks. Not the steel ones. Hope this helps!

      It sounds like you could have something going on with the auto choke if this has been happening from day one. Honda has had issues with it sticking open and also with the thermowax assembly that controls it.

    • @GarageGear

      Great question! I usually tip it in the direction with the oil spout. Then the gas cap is on the high end. I usually don’t like tipping it like this though. I prefer to tip it with the front end up! Thanks for watching!
