    Very nice but if you see the focus on the single photo is in a different place! So this is not apples to apples comparison! And no doubt the pixelshift destroys the single photo! But pls next time focus manually on the same spot exactly!

    How about trying "focus stacking" for landscape, using pixel shift next time? 😁 ..it would be a hell of a job!

      totally works and with HDR too - megafiles but intoxicating detail to give Hass HY6 a good run - which we also use

    • @melb5996

      Why? Focus Stacking for landscapes would not be necessary.

    I am very grateful for your analytical tests because they easily present the information and relationships that interest me.
    With my Sony a6300 I tried photostacking in Affinity and was 60 % happy with the results. The a6300 has a manual focusing aid of up to 11.7 times. The a7rIV could probably have a 30-fold focus aid, I expected that you would set the focus once in manual mode and use it for all 16 pixel shift shots. I ask you and all a7rIV owners, who are mentally and practically dealing with your test, whether the AF of the camera caused 16 minimum focus differences, so that the software not only calculated a two-dimensional increase in resolution due to pixel shifts, but also an additional three-dimensional sharpness expansion through focusstacking. If so, your trust in the AF would have led to an expanded depth of field. Could you kindly extend your test with manual focus? Object a round can or bottle with very small writing for simultaneous two and three-dimensional sharpness gain with 16 mult pixelshifting.

    Although I don't have this camera I have used pixel shifting before and I found that the best results were achieved when using manual focus. Autofocus can reset prior to each exposure. Some people commenting on focus stacking, why would anyone want to use focus stacking with an image of such a huge size? There should be no reason to go in so close.

    He tried that and in every time he achieved 0% succes.
    Does it work with you??

    • @mathphotographer
      @mathphotographer  4 года назад +1

      Yes it worked. But if I compare the Multishot on my Sony A7RIV and the new Multishot feature on my Leica SL2, the SL2 always delivers if the scene is still (so no artefacts or "mistakes") whereas the Sony sometimes produces artefacts in the composed image which should not be there. I guess that's what you are referring too when mentioning the Northrup's experience with Sony Multishot.

    • @nelsonclub7722
      @nelsonclub7722 3 года назад

      @@sokals44 Its not the duration of the flash that is an issue - that is as you rightly point out very fast - for instance even my Broncolor in HS and High Speed mode would not be able to keep up with the sensor creating upto 16 images in just a few seconds - so natural light and possibly a continuous light source - but one which strobes such as LED or fluorescent will not work. I use my H^d400c on location sometimes and I have tried it but it is really a fiddle and most of our clients don't need that sort of resolution - when I used to make 5x4 repro transparencies of artworks years ago this would have been a lifesaver - so I see the application for it but its a gimmick that most people will only use down the pub when talking about megapixels. My car an ordinary Golf has radar guided cruise control but in the real world it leaves enough of a gap between you and the car for a flashy BMW driver to sneak in- so the my vehicle moves back and then I get flashed from behind and the cycle repeats so I don't use it

    • @melb5996
      @melb5996 3 года назад

      sokals44 flash should be constant if it is a high quality set to manual. The settings allow you set a time interval between exposures that should be long enough for the flash to fully recycle.

Assuming this is true, that would mean the multishot photo would have much lower resolution than it ought to have. Regardless, the multishot photo had significantly higher resolution than the single photo. How is that not impressive?
      I can come to one of three conclusions:
      1. You're blind as a bat
      2. Your monitor needs adjusting
      3. You're trolling
