    Great presentation…….easy to understand in layman’s terms……. I have been debating whether or not to purchase this and I struggle with it because I don’t want to put it up on the shelf after one or two months use. But what you have shown me is that it would be a great challenge for me to undertake to learn it especially at my age of 76. …….. thank you and I look forward to hearing more of your talks……….👍👍

      @gregory1117 age can be determining factor for a lot of things and is subjective as well as objective. I am 73 and it can inform a lot things I do.

    Hey Jason, a few years ago I had to decide whether to purchase the Sony A9, or the A7Riv. At the time I thought speed (20 frames per second) was more important than resolution so I opted for the A9. As it turned out, I ended up doing a lot of deleting photos. So I turned my speed down to 10 frames per sec. It took me years to realize that this is all the speed I need. Now, I want more resolution so I gonna trade my A9 for the A7Riv. The menus are similar but your video is FANTASTIC! It even taught me a few things about the A9. Your explanations are simple and understandable. (I like Mark Galer too but I only attempt to watch him after 11:00 pm 'cause he puts me to sleep). Anyway, I pressed the like button and subscribed and will be looking for more your videos in the future. THANKS FOR THE GREAT INFO! I still need to know more about setting those 1,2,3 custom buttons.

    Very useful. It's helped to clear up a couple of points before I commit to purchase. One of the main stumbling blocks for me is the criticism many people have with the complex menu layout. Your explanation of the my menu setup gives me hope for a practical pathway to resolve some of that.

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  3 года назад +2

      Yeah, the menu system is not as easy as some other cameras at first, but once you get the hang of it and utilize the Function Menu and My Menu area, it will be no issue for you...

    While I am not a beginner, closer to Amateur, I purchased this Camera but I do own the A6600.
    I wanted to go FullFrame and this Camera made the most sense for investing in one and hopefully not have to buy another for Years.
    Your Review is Spot On and On Point. Great explanation without any focus on you. You explain everything thoroughly and better than some of the more Popular reviewers. Some of those reviewers actually say this is a Do Not a Good Buy.
    Again, Keep your Reviews the same. Explain it like you would are explaining it to Beginners. You will be doing them a favor and prevent frustration and buyers remorse.
    I have subscribed to your Channel. Again, Thank You!

    I am seasoned Sony (Minolta, Konica-Minolta) user. I currently use A77M2 and A99M2. I have a loaner AR4 along with LA-ea5. The menu system is same layout wise as dslt ILCA. However, that's where similarity ends. I've had loaner for 1 week but didn't have time over weekend to use it. I am watching this video to see what settings be aware of because I've tried setting it up for me but having hard time remembering what buttons I've reprogrammed and Custom button settings. This is so far the complaint I have is that there are so many customization options it makes it difficult to use. Im at 14:59 in video. So far, the video has been too elementary, so I hope you get into the real nitty gritty soon. 😊 OH another nit Pic is the monitor doesn't swivel to left and can't be turned so lcd is not exposed. That's probably why the lcd has a scratch on upper left corner.

    I only recently purchased a Sony A7R IV A camera. I have watched many videos on using this camera. Your ‘Beginners Guide’ tutorial has been the best, by far, I have seen to date. Quick, easy to understand, no nonsense video. Fantastic! I can’t wait to see your ‘Advanced’ tutorial. Okay, you have way bigger hands than I do! This camera is gigantic (I've been using an Olympus) and it looks huge in my hands. Conversely, it looks tiny in yours. Thanks for this video. I've been shooting Olympus for almost 20 years and the change over is big so a well-laid-out basic tutorial is much appreciated.

      Fences are not easy to deal with sometimes. In certain cases when at a decent distance to the subject, I will switch to Manual Focus and enable magnify zoom. That will allow me to see at 100% and I can fine tune the focus with obstacles in the way that would otherwise confuse the camera.

      The flash unit you are using must be compatible with HSS and Sony. Then when you enable HSS on the flash it should just work from what I understand. I honestly don't know more than that about his specific question, sorry. Jay

    Excellent video.Very detailed and informative! Question: what would be your settings for using a ND filter? Getting confused on my A7RIV with my 20mm FE/1.8 20G lens. I'm getting overexposure shots even with an 10 stop filter. Would appreciate any assistance. Thanks!

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  Год назад +1

      Hello :) If over exposing you will need to make sure you have your ISO as low as possible, and if 10-stops is not enough you would need to speed up your shutter speed or stop down your aperture to a higher F-Stop value.

    Amazing Info, thank you. I have ordered the A7R iv for MId Feb 2021. Question! I have been told it is possible to take 240mp shots with this camera in the correct setting, is this true? If so how?

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  3 года назад

      Yes, this is true and that feature is called Pixel Shift Multi Shoot. You can use this feature via the App, or use it just with the camera itself, but you still need to combine the files via the Sony software. See here: helpguide.sony.net/ilc/1930/v1/en/contents/TP0002726382.html

What settings should I use to produce the smallest file please? i realise that this will reduce the quality, but FB scale my stuff down anyway, and I need to at least get something I can upload. Thanks, i'm learning so much from your tutorial already!

    I am not a beginner, but new to this camera, this was an excellent tutorial, Jay, so glad I found you here. Thank you so much! I had a question regarding the viewfinder/monitor in manual mode. Both get dark in low light, and I can’t see anything unless I manually increase the ISO. This never happens with the a7rIII, the view finder stays bright in low light with no change. It looks like I have similar settings. What am I missing?.... Thank you!

    Can't wait for the A7R V with the updated menu system and next improvements "the cherry on the cake" i think it will bring the R line in such a state, it will have an amazing refined body worked out all the kinks and takes all of the good things over the years into 1 powerhouse body with all the ergonomics and powerful features.
    Edit: and a little bit better video features which the A7RIV lacks

    Hi Jay, thank you for a fantastic video. I've used the A7R2 for a number of years and then upgraded to the R4 last autumn...and I still picked up some useful info! I only have one question relating to the frame-rate settings for video: I've got the latest firmware update on my R4 and I can't see an option for 120fps on the record setting...it only goes up to 100p 100M on XAVC s HD. Please can you advise?! Thanks so much...looking forward to your other videos. Cheers, Nick

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  3 года назад +1

      Hi Nick, the reason your frame rate is different is because your camera came with PAL mode as opposed to NTSC which is what my camera came with from the factory. You can change that in the camera if you want. It's just a matter of where your purchased the camera. In North America where I live it's a NTSC standard for video, but the European standard is PAL. MENU → (Setup) → [NTSC/PAL Selector] → [Enter]

    Hi, thank you so much for making this video which is really helpful for a beginner like me that have never used a mirrorless camera before and just got a Sony A7R IV. I have a little question about what you showed at 16:27, it looks like the screen flicker every time you half-press the button to focus. It feels like the image in the view is shaking. Is that a normal thing for a mirrorless camera? My Sony A7R IV does the same thing all the time and is sometimes much more obvious than what you showed in this video, which makes me concerned if there is anything wrong with my camera.

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  2 года назад +1

      Hello, yes that is called flickering and it is due to the LED lights that I have around the house. It is very annoying, but can be combated with the anti-flick feature. The best bet is getting away from LED lights if possible, but that is obviously not always the case. MENU → (Camera Settings1) → [Anti-flicker Shoot.] → [On].

    • @diletto8295
      @diletto8295 2 года назад

      @@Jason_Hermann Thanks so much for the explanation! But I found even with Anti-flicker Shoot on and only shoot under natural light(no artificial light on), it would still have that kind of flickering when focusing. Is that still normal?

    Amazing tutorial! 37:51 about the megapixel. 26 M is it totally the same detail and quality if I shot at 60M and resize to 26M (6240x4160) in photoshop later?

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  3 года назад

      Thank you and not really. When you downsize a higher megapixel file to a lower res file, it will still maintain a bit more detail in certain areas depending. However, it won't be very noticeable at all in the real world to your point. The higher megapixel will just allow you print larger and crop in more for the most part.
