This was spot on. It really is that easy to do. It also applies to other engines such as the D5. I can change the engine oil on my own 2003 XC90 without having to raise the front end such is the ground clearance. These vehicles were quite well engineered not to mention the safety aspect (it was Volvo who invented the 3-point seat belt).
Thank you for showing us the meaning of the XX marks on the dipstick, its a lot different than a Camry or Accord. I'm a first time Volvo owner, this video gave me the confidence and the info I needed. I just successfully changed my oil, the 36mm socket for the filter is a must! I thought I could get the filter housing off with a crescent wrench, but there's no room for it in the engine bay.
If you have the 3.2 engine there is no dipstick. I will have to do a video on this but basically you have to drain, measure how much comes out and put that much back in.
@@matt-diy Howdy, you are correct; I would just like to add (from pg. 208 of the Owner's Manual and pg. 60 of the Warranty And Maintenance Records Information booklet (both are online)): "Synthetic oils meeting SAE 0W-30 or 0W-40 and complying with oil quality requirements are recommended for driving in areas of sustained temperature extremes (hot or cold), when towing a trailer over long distances, and for prolonged driving in mountainous areas."
As far as I could tell, there were some improvements in 3.2 which changed oil capacity too. It’s best to check the owners manual for oil volume for your specific car.

Thank you and good luck!
I like how accessible the starter motor is right at the bottom.
Yep real easy to get to
Fantastic! Everything I needed to know and nothing I didn’t! Thanks!
This helps me a lot since we just got a 2008 xc 90 thank

Your welcome!! Glad you were able to get it done! Thanks for the comment and I hope you will be a life long Volvo owner like me! 😁
Nice. Can't believe i paid to do this when it's so simple.... thnk you ~
Thanks for the comment!
Thanks for the video.
The fact that your using synthetic and that it takes 8 qts I think you could safely add 2G between changes.
Your welcome! Yeah I recently have I do 5,000 now.
Thank you for your video bro
Thank you for the comment!
Awesome vid, i know exactly what to do now 💪
Thank you!
can you make a video for the Transmission oil change ? thanks.
I will try and do that next time I change it!
Tienes algun video de como cambiar el aceite de la transmisión xc-90 3.2 awd? Saludos
No tengo, possible en el futuro!
How do you change the transmission fluid in 2009 Volvo xc90 does it have a dip stick for transmission fluid

@@matt-diy thanks for the speedy reply your videos are very good and yes I have the 3.2
What are the torque specs for the drain and filter? I never know how hard to tighten without a torque wrench.
Couldn’t tell you but basically “snug” and not overtight. Both have gaskets so there is no need to overtighten.
Hola, el fabricante recomienda 5w-30? yo le pongo 0w-40 ahora que hace mas frio.
Recomiendo 5w-30 porque es Volvo requisito.

Do you need a crush washer for the oil drain plug?
Yes!! You can reuse if it’s in good shape!
Thank you so much
My 2013 xc90 3.2 awd takes 7.2 quarts instead of 8 as mentioned in the video. Make sure not to overfill as it will cause major engine issues
They may have changed it then. Mine definitely takes 8 but thanks for the comment!

If I new it was this damn easy would’ve did it my self
Now you can!!
Why don't you take oil filter off first, then drain oil? Thanks
You certainly can do it that way too!
