Friend, this great lens here in Brazil with an abundant sun, and an ND filter, guarantees really superb images. And look, I still use the a6300. Good pictures out there! Greetings. Att. Roberto.
I stayed away from the Sigmas because they didn’t have OSS. However, thanks to Catalyst Browse, it’s really a game changer. The 16mm 1.4 replaced my kit lens and oh boy, night time is daytime with this lens. I love it so much that I just got the Sigma 30mm. Súper Sharp lenses! I already own the Sony 35mm 1.8f but after trying the 1.4 aperture, I’m like I gotta have it. One thing I noticed, is that with the Sigma 30 you can hear the motor when the lens is focusing. It’s not a deal breaker since I will mostly use it at night and won’t be using the audio from the camera. I’m looking forward to complete the trio with the 56mm 1.4 but that will be later. The Sony 50 mm 1.8 oss, is my go to lens for that range. And like you mentioned, with active stabilization and clear zoom you always have that extra reach if needed. I can’t thank you enough Mark for your helpful videos. Please keep making videos on this camera. It’s a beast!
No worries about that - there’s so much to talk about with this camera!! 😁 Awesome setup, Tim. if you already have the 50, there’s definitely no rush on the Sigma 56.
Great video Mark would you say F1.4 can be used in doors for filming concerts? I am worried about the depth of field being too shallow that I miss focus. Thanks Glenn
Hey Mark! I had one thought/question for you regarding this lens. Do you recommend buying the camera body only and save the $100? Is the kit lens basically not worth it at all? Also, I know you said the Sigma is good for vlogging, live streams, and in studio, would it ALSO be good for shooting more storytelling/filmmaking videos and comedy sketches as well etc? Appreciate your thoughts, I had to watch the video again to get me some more laughter while getting schooled about lenses. Also if you care to share, would love to hear what all the cool back drop and lighting is you have. That blue is kind of my brand colors, I love the deep blue. PS: Now if Amazon would get the black camera back in stock lol, I'm ready to pull the trigger! PPS: (I clicked on your affiliate links for the lens and camera, hope Amazon remembers that when I get them!)
I wouldn’t get the kit lens as long as you get the Sigma 16 and then maybe one more lens in the future. For some people, they can’t afford to get a lens with the camera, so the kit lens will do the job, but if you have the budget, you should replace the kit lens. Start with the 16 and then see what else you need. When I’m shooting video, I only use the 16, whether vlogging or otherwise. you’ll figure out late if you need other lenses. The background lights are just RGB lights turned to blue. one is a neewer amzn.to/3EsDlnU and one is a falcon eyes amzn.to/3okoZQZ

Mark. I dono whats going on but I bought this Sigma and on a preview in my camera I see quite wide angle. However when I start to record it goes much narrower. It crops much more than I want although it doesn't have stabilization and I keep it always off. Love the lens but it is to narrow.
Make sure you're staring in video mode not picture mode. picture mode is 3:2 - if you press the record button, it will switch ti video mode which shoots 16:9. It will be equivalent to a 24mm full frame

@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis damn you were right. My preview was in picture mode not video mode. Thank you. I think I need smth wider considering 10% loss from Catalyst Browse. Any recommendations? Maybe Sony E 11mm f1.8? Have you tried this one?
If I pair this lens with the sony ev-10 will it act as a 16 mm with the active stabilization off? I bought it hoping that it would act as a wide angle 16mm for vlogging lol
Hii Mark I am totally in love with your humorous and knowledgeable videos Tell me one thing is sigma 16mm good for portrait photography!? If I have to buy my first lens what it would be? Sigma 16, sigma 56, sony 16mm-50mm (default lens)
Hi mark, I completely echo the sentiments of the pinned tweet! I have a question… the active steady shot… it’s nice to take advantage of that crop like you say. Do you know if it works with photos or just video? I tried to use it on the photo setting but says invalid on this lens. I’m guessing that means it’s video only? Just checking I don’t need to change another setting. Thanks again for your videos 😊👍
the 11 is too wide for most talking heads unless you're sitting really close, and then there may be distortion of your face. The Sony 15 looks great - but no better than the sigma at half the price.
@@ZEROstig Make sure you turn Lens distortion comp To AUTO. It’s off by default with third party lenses. If you leave it off, you’ll get some fisheye effect
Great informative video! One question: do you still keep some kind of active stabilization on the camera when you plan on passing the footage through Catalyst Browse? Would that still work or even give different (better) result than having no stabilization from the camera? Thanks!
I usually leave it off because active steadyshot shot crop on a lot. you can can still use it when you have active steady shot on when you need a touch up. I do that too.
set ppOFF to start. 24p, shutter 1/50. Iso 100. aperture whatever you need. If you want super blurry background - you might need a neutral density (ND) filter if the gym is bright
Just another quality video Mark. Now hopefully I can find this lens on a Black Friday sale. Always heard size doesn’t matter, but now you’re telling me it does. Think I need some apple juice myself now :-) Thanks and keep up the great work!

Do u have any recommendations of mobile colour grading and editing app/website ?should i buy the sony zv e10 kit lens?i m planning to buy sony sigma lens instead.
Just a minute... As far as I know the specific sigma 16mm is a crop frame lens not a full frame. If would be a full frame lens, mounted on an APCS camera the focal length would be 24mm. Right?
Yes, this is designed for crop sense bodies, yes. So effectively it is 24mm field of view on the APS-C (in full frame terms). It’s still a 16mm lens on the APS-C, just like a full frame 16mm will still be a 16mm on APS-C, but because of the smaller sensor, the framing will be the same as if you had a 24mm on a full frame in both cases. A 16mm 2.8 full frame and 16mm 2.8 APS-C lens will look the same on the APS-C body.
This lens is much, much better than the 16-50 BUT it only has one focal length of 16, so you don’t have the zoom range of 16-50. But Sigma just releases a new 18-50 f2.8 lens that is better than the kit lens with a similar zoom range.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thank you very much for taking the time to answer. :) . You earned one subscriber. Your reviews are very informative and I like your sense of humor .
The Sigma is a much better lens. But the kit lens is a zoom so you have much more reach. if you want the same zoom functions in a better lens, look at the Sigma 18-50 2.8. They just released it.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis now the next question arises 😁 Is the new 18-50 2.8 better or the sigma 16 mm 😅 Please it's make lot of confusion . atleast which gives better image quality 🙏🏻
@@rjstreams The image quality will be great on both the Sigma. But one is 16mm only. Which means there’s no zoom. But it’s better in lowlight. The Zoom lens will get you more reach. How are you going to use the camera - what will you shoot.

Hi Mark! I just got a ZVE10 because of your video and this Sigma 16mm f1.4 lens particularly because I wanted to get into vlogging, fancam vids etc. As a total newbie in this field, I have to ask this. Why does Clear mode on the C1 button get me a very high ISO thus giving me a bad grainy output video? but if I put it in Defocus mode. it's relatively very very good even on night time, even getting easy pro look on it too. The lens I have is Sigma 16mm f1.4 and the kit lens hehe
The background defocus button just manipulates your fstop and iso for you. in the dark, trying to make everything “clear” will put your fstop higher and force the iso high. Don’t use that button. Put the camera in “s” shutter priority. set your shutterspeed to 1/50 and put your iso in auto. then the camera will keep the image good for you. if you want to manipulate the amount of “blur”, you can put the camera in “A” (aperture priority) and set the fstop to low for blurry background or high for (around f8 or f11) for clear. but always out your fstop as low as you can in dark situations. When your iso is low per, you’ll get cleaner footage
Hi Mark. Please, could you make a comparison between sigma 18-50 2.8 vs sigma 16 mm 1.4 using the zv-e10??? Both alow do great macro during vlogging? Both give great wide capture during vlogging? It is important to konw your views respect those lens. Thank you
no macro with the 16mm. But the 16mm 1.4 is a bit wider and can get you a blurrier background if you use and ND filter. I use the 16mm all the time because I love it's lowlight ability and it's shallow depth of field. But it is bigger and heavier and cannot zoom at all.
I've got this camera coming thru today with a kit lens. So question is, if I add a lens, sony 11mm or the sigma 16? For vlogging and filming general youtube videos. Thanks.
The 11 is better for vlogging, but the studio is better with the 16. you can use the 11 with active stab on the studio and it can work though because of the big crop. f it’s mostly studio and only a little vlogging, I would do the 16. but if you’re doing a lot of both, the 11 is probably better

Tamron doesn’t have a 16mm 1.4 for the Sony Emount. They had a fully manual 16mm 1.4 for machine cameras - which are very different than the mirrorless cameras we are talking about here.

Friend, this great lens here in Brazil with an abundant sun, and an ND filter, guarantees really superb images. And look, I still use the a6300. Good pictures out there! Greetings. Att. Roberto.
Great setup!!

Another Great Video. I just got this lense today for my little Duggee. Should I get the 30mm too? That is some great Apple Juice.
The 30 is great, but try out this 16 first and see if you the 39 is a focal length you need.
It clearly is the best lens! Great video :)
Just got my Sig 16!!! Also added every item to my cart with your links so that I can build my own “Doug” aka “Fritz”

What do you recommend when reviewing things like this? Product showcase on or off?
I usually leave it off when I’m talking. I use it when I’m displaying the items in the b roll.
Hi, which lens would you recommend for this camera when taking pictures? Like selfie pics, or family pictures, etc!
Mark, I am really looking forward to the 18-50 review. If you could compare with the Tampon 17-70, it'd be perfect!
im new to vlogging and watching your vids made me convince and decide to buy zv e10. sadly i only had few subs 😭 but i’m hoping to grow.

Thanks for this video!
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Hey man!
SOOO, I have the ZV E-10 coming and the Sigma 16MM lens too, (BTW, did you that they halted the production on these indefinitely due to chip shortage, their other cameras too!
NOW I'm trying to figure out what else I need haha!
Going down the rabbit hole and have no idea what I just got myself into lol. I have an old computer (2013 macbook pro) and just iMovie for the moment, looks like I will have to be upgrading soon to a new Macbook pro cause I know this old girl ain;t going to be too excited about where I'm heading with live streaming and 4K editing for the ol' RUclipss.
Having said that, what does your Canadian expertise and wicked sense of humor have to say about that? Like, what size data card should I get, do I need an external HD since I only have about 100GB left on my macbook hard drive, do you have any thoughts on a tripod and desktop version, same for lighting, and vlogging type handle or gimba, ND filter etcl? I know you hate gimbals haha. Not much budget left here, now I'm thinking dude, you should have just stayed with your fancy iPhone and Web cam lol. :-)
I'm in a temp place right now, so prob can't set up a whole studio, but could use some good desktop lighting and hoping I can use my Shure 7SMB for the mic in studio.
So any suggestions you have for budget friendly necessities to be up and running so I can actually USE this Dougie thing and not just watch it collect $1K dust in the room, ( of course I will not use the name Dougie unless I mention you, I will give mine a name, maybe a sweet girl's name me thinking!)
Let me know, sorry for the long post, but I feel like you're my bro, and feel free to share affiliate links, I got your back!
Thanks man!
Hi Mark, do you still rec this lens for the ZV E10 in 2024? I subbed bc of this vid. great work and to the point.
Yes - absolutely I do. I am doing another vid on the lens this week, in fact
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Ive been looking at the Sony ZVE10 for a couple of years and just saw, from another one of your vids, Sony now has ZVE10 ii. Ugh. Decisions, decisions. I look forward to your new take on the lens. Thanks for responding.
The lense looks nice, really nice and informative video. Thank you!
You’re welcome!! 👍
Yassss that’s one of my favorite lenses for sure!
looking forward to your review of the 18-50mm f/2.8 Sigma, as my purchase of the ZV-E10 may well be Body only, if the Sigma is as good as everyone is hoping. That way I don't end up with surplus glass (an Important factor in my purchase decisions- especially as I'm starting over with e-mount glass)
Yes, that sigma will likely be an excellent kit lens replacement. Way more expensive- but worth it
Too bad there is no $129 TTartisan 16mm f1.8 like the 56mm f1.8.
I’m wanting to buy one as I have the 30mm sigma and 56mm ttartisan and want something better for indoor family/baby photos/videos.
Hello, star! I have a question: If I buy a ZV-E10 with which lens would I have a scene similar to Gerald Undone's?
To get the same look on the ZV-E10 you would want the Sigma 23mm 1.4 amzn.to/47Jfn7z or a cheaper option is the Viltrox 23mm 1.4: amzn.to/3XLdiDp
If I pair this lens with the sony ev-10 will it act as a 16 mm with the active stabilization off? I bought it hoping that it would act as a wide angle 16mm for vlogging lol
i love your videos mark

Hi mark, I completely echo the sentiments of the pinned tweet! I have a question… the active steady shot… it’s nice to take advantage of that crop like you say. Do you know if it works with photos or just video? I tried to use it on the photo setting but says invalid on this lens. I’m guessing that means it’s video only? Just checking I don’t need to change another setting. Thanks again for your videos 😊👍
you can’t use the active steady shot with stills. You can use clear image zoom, but unfortunately in JPEG only
Debating on this lens still vs. New sony 15mm 1.4 vs. New sony 11mm 1.8... considering RUclips talking head videos mostly. Thoughts?
the 11 is too wide for most talking heads unless you're sitting really close, and then there may be distortion of your face. The Sony 15 looks great - but no better than the sigma at half the price.
Great video can’t wait to see the one there sending you

Great informative video! One question: do you still keep some kind of active stabilization on the camera when you plan on passing the footage through Catalyst Browse? Would that still work or even give different (better) result than having no stabilization from the camera? Thanks!
I usually leave it off because active steadyshot shot crop on a lot. you can can still use it when you have active steady shot on when you need a touch up. I do that too.

@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis would you suggest 24fps 4k for youtube videos? Or 30fps?

set ppOFF to start. 24p, shutter 1/50. Iso 100. aperture whatever you need. If you want super blurry background - you might need a neutral density (ND) filter if the gym is bright

What’s a nicer equivalent maybe? My iPhone is 26mm and I kinda wanna stay around there so I’m looking at 16-18mm I think and f2 or better
this lens is 24mm equivalent full frame (iPhone is 26 equiv full frame) so they are very close
If there will be a Viltrox 13mm f1.4 for E mount apsc, will you make a review for it? I think viltrox is uppin their game😉 they have it on fuji btw. And google say they make some for sony.
Hi man, thank you for you video. How does this lens (16-50 mm f/3.5-5.6 ) compare to the one you recommended? Which one is better. Thank you
This lens is much, much better than the 16-50 BUT it only has one focal length of 16, so you don’t have the zoom range of 16-50. But Sigma just releases a new 18-50 f2.8 lens that is better than the kit lens with a similar zoom range.

The Sigma is a much better lens. But the kit lens is a zoom so you have much more reach. if you want the same zoom functions in a better lens, look at the Sigma 18-50 2.8. They just released it.

@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thanks im trying it out currently, its making progress. slowly digesting in my head all these tips
Thank you Mark, I was having the same issue and it’s working 🤝
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Yeah, thought so. 11 it is then. But it's dearer! Oh well. The stuff we want is always dearer! Cheers.

Hey Mark, how would Tamron’s 16mm counterpart compare to the quality of the Sigma?
Tamron doesn’t have a 16mm 1.4 for the Sony Emount. They had a fully manual 16mm 1.4 for machine cameras - which are very different than the mirrorless cameras we are talking about here.
