The expression on Lou Reed when the master Pavarotti starts singing is priceless and moving. Thank you for sharing this time capsule moment. Two greats from different worlds. RIP Heroes.
You can laugh all you want and think WTF?? But at the end did you stay to see Lou Reed's face and his love and respect for Pavarotti? He didn't give a crap what anyone else thought. I mean, what a kick to have a world famous opera singer sing YOUR song with YOU...... !!!!
Reed's amused by Pavarotti singing a bar late (he stretched 'day' for 3 beats longer) for a bit and thus struggling to fit the words into the next phrase, but at the same time equally as impressed how he managed to get out of it without letting anybody know something was wrong.
+Dusty Rhodes two completely different contrasting performances...both in service to the lyric, to the art of music...symphonic and tremendous! the audience certainly appreciated it!
I'm Dusty Rhodes, I changed to Lady BlackStardust. That Pavarotti, he sure got around. But not as much as Lou! It must have been thrilling for each one to perform with the other.
This is so beautiful. So strange but yet so spectacular. Just shows that not everything in music has to be perfect and 'easy' to listen to, it should be felt and enjoyed. Just look at lou's smile when pavarotti sings.
love this version...Pavarotti sang with a lot of people...can I say this without sounding foolish-this is a masterpiece of a song!! It's like God wrote this song and gave it to Reed!
My thoughts exactly! The combo of sincerity and a Joycean focus on the beautiful minutiae of life makes a masterpiece indeed! Not to mention the juxtaposition of voices in this performance. Brought it out to the fullest!
What a beautifull song ! Thanks you very much Mister Lou Reed and Mister Luciano Pavarotti. Excuse me for my bad english but I’m french girl .I love Lou Reed. Luciano Pavarotti and classic music. Thanks again,it’s really beautifull !
He's amused by Pavarotti singing a bar late (he stretched 'day' for 3 beats longer) for a bit and thus struggling to fit the words into the next phrase, but at the same time equally as impressed how he managed to get out of it without letting anybody know something was wrong.
The critics need to knock it off, this was a fundraiser, (Pavarati and Friends benefit for Angolan refugees in 2002) the artists are brilliant and daring to do this.
R.I.P. Lou Reed. R.I.P. Luciano Pavarotti.
I’m a french girl so excuse me for my bad english. Perfect day is one of Lou Reed finest songs. I advise you to listen to Lou Reed and Renée Fleming for another version of this masterful song. Good day to all of you.
Dont make judgements. Two great artists from two great styles of art. Pavarotti was an excepcional musician and a great human being. Lou Reed, its one of my favorite artists. Without him, theres no rock n' roll.
I’m so glad you are honest in your opinion this version kills this song IMO this is about a sad lonely person singing about a day in his life But this version sounds like a bunch of football hooligans especially the end of the song I know I’ll get a lot of criticism for this but who cares
I agree, I was expecting Pavarotti to sing on his own and the contrast between the two was not a good mix. Lou in his leather and Lucy in a tux, I wouldn’t have been surprised if Lou had cracked up after the first chorus. Ah well made me smile as well.
I mean it was for charity. Ricky Martin also sang at one of these fucking things. James Brown and Sting were there singing during the same charity event as Lou. I mean, fuckin hell, Pavorotti sang with the Spice Girls for charity. It wasn't supposed to be art so much as getting a wide variety of people together to raise money for people suffering from war and poverty. He did this charity event every year from the early 90s until his farewell tour and retirement. Context is king. Take it for what it is.
He looked humiliated AND amused, as his song got crucified by Pav/grotti!!!! NOT being a hater but masonic garped upto the hilts, ritual humiliations much for Lou!!!!!! Nutty performance and he knew it... poor bloke :((( RIP.
the song is not about heroin to everybody... Only people that don't know about Lou and Andy and the underground would say something like that. just because this song was in a movie about heroin doesn't mean its only about heroin and everyone that hears it automatically thinks about heroin.
***** Lou was a natural born junkie. And if you only knew about opiate addiction, you would understand what this song is really about. Еspecially line "you just keep me hang it on". But you live the life of a respectable citizen and have no idea about what you try to argue. So, after all, what are you?
+Ricky Rhoades For all the silly, insulting, brain dead, mean handed comments I read on youtube, yours says exactly what I was thinking. This is when youtube shines: when a glorious moment such as this can be preserved for you and I AND for generations to come. When later this year I purchase one of those 65" TVs this will be one of the first videos I watch. Peace.
Lou took it to church on this rendition. One of the best live versions I have heard from him. He seemed inspired. Also cool to see that even the Pav could misread sheet music.
I love this version of a favorite song. My late brother used to set up the shows in Atlanta and swore that he and the crew loved Pavarotti who was the kindest to the crews and always took them for a steak dinner. I'm a huge Lou Reed fan so it's best of all world for me.
Who didn't know this was going to be a love it or hate it thing. I'm generally glad I found it, though while I'd pass it along to some music friends, it won't be something found on my disc tray.
In terms of singing tecnique, it seems like Pavarotti is an elephant and Lou an ant. One was a classical trained singer, one of the best opera singers ever. The other was not even a singer, he was a talker, like Dylan, for example. He didnt how to sing. Reed probably knew he was dying and this would be the most beautiful rendition of his song he would hear before his death.
I loved Lou, the Velvet and Pavoretti, greatest tenor ever. But this combination...if well intended...really???
😂😂😂
the way lou looks at him when he sings lol... like "holy shit im singing with pavoratti WTF"
Pavarotti: "holy shit i'm singing with Lou Reed WTF"
Or maybe it's
Pavarotti: "What's a Lou Reed?"
Either way.
lol
1:25 what this face is saying
EXACTLY what I thought.
The expression on Lou Reed when the master Pavarotti starts singing is priceless and moving. Thank you for sharing this time capsule moment. Two greats from different worlds. RIP Heroes.
Lou Reed ain’t got a note in his head god bless him

Exactly.
1:21 lous face is just priceless. Total respect to a legend
Agree 👍
Real as it Gets
It looks like he can’t believe it 😂 it’s so beautyfully bizarre…
Reed's amused by Pavarotti singing a bar late (he stretched 'day' for 3 beats longer) for a bit and thus struggling to fit the words into the next phrase, but at the same time equally as impressed how he managed to get out of it without letting anybody know something was wrong.
This is awesome, yet almost laughably ridiculous at the same time. I love it!
Heehee. Yes. Thank you, exactly what I was thinking.
Yup, it's amazing, even though the two styles don't really click
MaximumMadnessStixon when Pavaratti sings the first chorus lou reed's face kinda says the same thing, he looks like "how the fuck did I manage this?"
Couldn't have said it better myself.
mozart and his mates must be thinking "We started something"
Maravilloso tema de Lou Reed,,Perfect day, gran poeta, versos tan sentidos y tan verdaderos.
1:20! The most unlikely duo ever to perform a song together. And one of the most moving and spectacular performances.
+Dusty Rhodes two completely different contrasting performances...both in service to the lyric, to the art of music...symphonic and tremendous! the audience certainly appreciated it!
+Lady BlackStardust Not the most unlikely duo ever. There's a video of Pavarotti singing along with James Brown.
I'm Dusty Rhodes, I changed to Lady BlackStardust. That Pavarotti, he sure got around. But not as much as Lou! It must have been thrilling for each one to perform with the other.
Lady BlackstarDust The recent Lady Ga Ga and Tony Bennett or David Bowie and Bing Crosby.
Pavarotti with Spice Girls is even weirder
Pavarotti knew a genius piece of art when he saw one. Brilliant song.
This was a benefit concert for the children of Bosnia I wish celebrities still did things like this
they are nowadays busy defending Israel or making the same phony post about Ukraine
This is so beautiful. So strange but yet so spectacular. Just shows that not everything in music has to be perfect and 'easy' to listen to, it should be felt and enjoyed. Just look at lou's smile when pavarotti sings.
Tears me up

Thanks again,it’s really beautifull ! In french : Un grand merci à ces grands Messieurs, un grand merci post mortem.
This was played at my mentor's funeral. It knocks the wind out of me every time i hear it nowadays.
This song is so melancholic, but with Pavarotti's voice, damn, the anguish is alive....
Well goddamn. Isn't this just the most excessively epic thing ever?
Wow this sounds so lush with the orchestra.
I just love how Reed looks at Pavarotti at 1:20. It's a combination admiration and childish glee. Priceless.
one of the best facial expressions i've seen on anybody!
He's amused by Pavarotti singing a bar late (he stretched 'day' for 3 beats longer) for a bit and thus struggling to fit the words into the next phrase, but at the same time equally as impressed how he managed to get out of it without letting anybody know something was wrong.
RIP legends. This was amazing. Now that looked like one Perfect Day.
I want this played at my funeral.
Weird when you watch this knowing that both of them are gone now RIP Both of you.
Pavarotti made a perfect song......perfect
The critics need to knock it off, this was a fundraiser, (Pavarati and Friends benefit for Angolan refugees in 2002) the artists are brilliant and daring to do this.
Critics on this one?
It's like two totally different things lol he's a fkn opera singer preforming with Lou Reed. Just enjoy the absurdity = )
The best singer of all time with Luciano Pavarotti ❤
Then I have a chance of being the best singer.
R.I.P. Lou Reed. R.I.P. Luciano Pavarotti.
Pavarotti’s stage makeup here could totally hold its own to glam-era Lou Reed. That brow pencil work is some expert-level shit.
I’m a french girl so excuse me for my bad english. Perfect day is one of Lou Reed finest songs. I advise you to listen to Lou Reed and Renée Fleming for another version of this masterful song. Good day to all of you.
This is simply amazing. R.I.P.
Awesome duet, such contrasting styles but they rock it!!!
Dont make judgements.
Two great artists from two great styles of art.
Pavarotti was an excepcional musician and a great human being.
Lou Reed, its one of my favorite artists. Without him, theres no rock n' roll.
The words are so touching... brings tears to my eyes. Thanks for the memories.. RIP Lou and Luciano
I didn't know this many chills was possible
INCREIBLE SIN PALABRAS.. ES LO QUE PUEDEN HACER DOS GENIOS DE LA MUSICA COMO TALES., DEJARTE SIN PALABRA. GENIOS
Lou's look at Luciano is wow!! Good vibe!
It should be a cappella 😁😁😁
Though.. Phenomenal artists 😍
Croatia, nice!
Both are unforgotten heroes of music.
certainly not forgotten
This wasn't all that good, but seeing these two together makes me smile.
I’m so glad you are honest in your opinion this version kills this song IMO this is about a sad lonely person singing about a day in his life
But this version sounds like a bunch of football hooligans especially the end of the song I know I’ll get a lot of criticism for this but who cares
I thought it actually had real comic value which made it that much better😂🤣
I agree, I was expecting Pavarotti to sing on his own and the contrast between the two was not a good mix. Lou in his leather and Lucy in a tux, I wouldn’t have been surprised if Lou had cracked up after the first chorus. Ah well made me smile as well.
Lou sounds off key.
I'm so confused yet intrigued
Oh Lou. You are so amazing, showing respect to Luciano on your song. So happy to have lived in your generation. Heroes ❤
The criticisms on this thread are pointless. This is a wonderful infusion of styles, feelings, artistry, all with flaws and genius.
Right bro 👍
I mean it was for charity. Ricky Martin also sang at one of these fucking things. James Brown and Sting were there singing during the same charity event as Lou. I am shocked I don't hear this song more often. It's beautiful!
Unusual Duo but very nice.Thank you for posting. ♪♫•*♫ •♫♪
Intense, fascinating, monumental.
RIP Lou ,you will be sorely missed
The ending was heaven...
Love them both like crazy 🥰😍😘
never been a fan of the opera style of singing but this is pretty awesome :D
Haha, I don't know why expected this to be good. But it still made me smile.

i think they match perfectly... the fact that they are so utterly different makes one appreciate both more, IMHO...
It looked like Lou Reed was about to laugh for some reason during the first chorus. Maybe it just seemed super surreal at that moment!
+hump frog I do believe that is was, for Lou, surreal.
He looked humiliated AND amused, as his song got crucified by Pav/grotti!!!! NOT being a hater but masonic garped upto the hilts, ritual humiliations much for Lou!!!!!! Nutty performance and he knew it... poor bloke :((( RIP.
He was laughing because Luciano missed the first chorus
Nah man😂🤣😂 Lou has a few times bursted out laughing on stage for no real reason before I saw it in another live concert he did outta nowhere😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@Salamander676 yea I think he really does it when there’s a forgotten chorus like Pavarotti did here😂😂🤣
Rock artist and more classical artists should collaborate more often!
Due leggende ineguagliabili.
R.I.P. Luciano and Lou! Maybe there are playing somewere else together!
Pavaroti sings about heroin. Now I have seen everything.
the song is not about heroin to everybody... Only people that don't know about Lou and Andy and the underground would say something like that. just because this song was in a movie about heroin doesn't mean its only about heroin and everyone that hears it automatically thinks about heroin.

***** P.S. "They are just fucking narrow minded idiots" That was SO buddhist ))
Vojtas Vlčkes
Perfect Day IS about heroin you self fellating sea cucumbers. Lou was an addict in the early 70s and the song was written during his detox period.
This is so surreal
Unreal- super awesome
this is the best thing i saw in a while, epic yet goofy, wonderful yet hilarious
It's extremely insane and extremely epic at the same time! Totally off the grid and beautiful! I'm always looking for interesting and unusual music.
This is fucking awesome. Glad they got in on RUclips. Saved for posterity!!

WOW
Lol two of my father's favourite performers and it's so out of time......and tune sometimes. Hysterical.
Countess Boochie Flagrante exactly, it could work but fails in timin' .
love it. awesome performance
Can't believe they're both gone. Legendary.
This is simultaneously the greatest and weirdest collab of all time...
Would have been sweet to hear their voices paired 20 years earlier. At this point in the careers, not so much. Miss them both.
Lou took it to church on this rendition. One of the best live versions I have heard from him. He seemed inspired. Also cool to see that even the Pav could misread sheet music.
Yea , I think singing with Pav kind of pushed Lou to focus on Singing
See Pavarotti singing you song must be so honouring...
Two amazing talents that do not mix together at all. Too bad.
***** Yep. Singer =/= Musician
all the vocal training doesnt make this type of singer versatile
Poor Pavarotti was sick here 💔RIP
really? He was terribly off queue at times.
simbiosi d'arte. Adesso puoi vivere in eterno dei "perfects days". addio lou
Two legends singing the wrong song the wrong way. Even Lou Reed manages to make a mess of this little masterpiece of a song.
I love this version of a favorite song. My late brother used to set up the shows in Atlanta and swore that he and the crew loved Pavarotti who was the kindest to the crews and always took them for a steak dinner. I'm a huge Lou Reed fan so it's best of all world for me.
beautiful
You're going to reap just what you sow. Always always always true. Two greats, gone but never forgotten.
R.I.P Lou Reed
R.I.P Luciano Pavarotti.
hasta siempre maestros,...
With Pavarotti's voice this song is taken to another level...
It was just a perfect day.
absolutely love Pavarotti duets. Mans world with James Brown is also beautiful.
Who didn't know this was going to be a love it or hate it thing. I'm generally glad I found it, though while I'd pass it along to some music friends, it won't be something found on my disc tray.
beau duo.. pour a "perfect day"... musique ...musique partage..*
In terms of singing tecnique, it seems like Pavarotti is an elephant and Lou an ant. One was a classical trained singer, one of the best opera singers ever. The other was not even a singer, he was a talker, like Dylan, for example. He didnt how to sing. Of course i know Lou Reed was completely incapable of singing Nessum Dorma, but i know one thing too: Pavarotti would be incapable of singing Heroin or Venus in Furs and make it sound great the way Lou did. There are some stuff, especially from The Velvet Underground, that only sounds good when Lou is on it talking, mumbling and being so fucking unmusical, but sounding perfect anyway. What is a good singer? That is the question.

So touching.... This version is deep.. RIP... thanks for all the memories... I'll never forget you
Pezzo fantastico.
This is the weirdest shit ever and they had some trouble rightfully on stage but they managed to pull it off!
This is like beef steak and tiramisu - both amazing, but mix them together and feel the pain...
