yeah no joke, that guy was amazing! ive been watching ds speedruns a lot, but that guy really explained the shit out of the run and mentioned stuff ive never understood before
He did an amazing job of explaining all the intricacies of the run. Even as someone played this game for 5000+ hours and did some speedrunning himself, this was fascinating to watch.I've never seen this route before.
I keep trying to find the right sport to compare this run to.... i think a rally car race where there's a driver and a navigator piloting through the map. so impressive.
It is evident that both the runner and the commentator put a lot of effort in preparing for this run, which in turn seems very respectful to the event and the cause. Polite, professional, entertaining and informative.
Commentator clearly practiced his run down & it shows. Most commentators end up being annoying imo, but this guy nailed how it should be done. Some good comedy can be nice, but an informative breakdown really helps you appreciate what you're seeing & I think the vast majority of the comments here speak to that.
The DS1 speedruns are ever evolving, and new strats are being found to this day. The last speedrun of this game that i watched didn't have like half of these strats, and was almost 10 mins slower. It's very interesting seeing how these runs evolve.
this commentary is seriously great, i'm towards the end of my first time running through dark souls and I feel like i'm learning so much random stuff about the game
I’ve never played, nor really been interested in, Dark Souls. But damn this was a fun run to watch. And the commentator really made it accessible to people like me with his extremely in depth yet concise commentary. One of the few AGDQ speed runs I’ve had my eyes glued to from start to finish.
@@leeham6230 I haven't beat DS1, but I've beat DS3, Bloodborne and Sekiro, and I think this has an element of truth towards it. I think if you played other non souls games of this genre, then possibly. But anything else? Na.
Probably one of the best couch commentators. He knows that balancing explanation and just watching the run is important. Its also awesome he knew how many donations to read as well! Amazing.
I'm just curious what do you do to have so many hours on DS1? I felt like I've played it forever and I've only played it for 200 hours. Do you just replay it in different builds or speedrun it?
@@james87367 I have 1.2k in DS3 and most of it was just making all kinds of builds since there's so much variety. If you're into PvP you can also easily sink thousands of hours in it.
incredible run - so informative and well-paced, rehearsed but still natural, and with a wonderful dry sense of humor. there's even a dash of well-earned sappy sweetness at the end. keep bringing these guys back to gdq!!
Grimelios did a fantastic job explaining everything very quickly and accurately you can tell he practiced and it really payed off. Awesome run and awesome commentary
I LOVE when runners and their couch comes prepared, and professional like these two guys. Flawless, informative, and eloquent commentary, and great runner awareness outside of the game. What a class act :D
I like to imagine that the game knows who is playing it, and when one of these runners starts move-swapping all the bosses just sigh like "not this shit again"
This is probably the best run I've ever seen at a gdq. Not only because the gameplay was great, but the commentary was perfect. This is the golden standard.
Solid run! Excellent explanation of everything going on, and great added comments from the runner regarding what is difficult and what is easy to do. Great inspiration for future runners!
You watch GDQ runs for either the funny commentary, informative commentary or really tense live runs of hard games. This had a bit of all three so thank you.
Great run and incredible commentary. That was the best way I've ever heard the wrong warp explained. This is now my favorite DS1 GDQ run by far. Great job boys
Oh man, what a team ! Both commentator and the speedrunner were fantastic ! Even if Regole had to be super focused, he still gave some tips or info. You can feel that Grimelios had prepared this commentary, it's amazing and keeps us super entertained with lots of little infos !
Grimelios is an absolute legend at commentary!! This reminds me of watching the old old school AGDQ/SGDQ runs with lots of explanations about what's going on and critical details. I would love to see him commentate something else, I can't believe I missed this run when it was fresh but going back to it now it's still completely amazing!!
This is one of the best, if not the best DS 1 run that i've ever seen when it comes to commentary, both the runner and the commentator were stellar! love it
Everyone who plans to do a run or commentary at a speedrunning marathon should watch this run as an example. The runner and commenter both did a 10/10 job on this.
This was a really enjoyable watch, props to the commentator for helping us understand whats going on. And of course, props to the runner! This wa amazing
This is such a good run and an especially amazing couch! Dude was to the point accurate and articulate, as well as the two of them have great chemistry.
This was so satisfying the player the commentary from the guy on the couch and the guy reading the donations all the way down to the donations themselves loved every second.
Way back in the day people discovered the force quit wrong warp where you basically dashboard during a load screen, then they figured out that in the Kiln area it spawns you past the door. Force quit gets patched and banned from the category anyway so eventually they came up with the PCC item swap to trigger the wrong warp.
@@dawsonwheeler1849 The trick was actually discovered on accident by a casual player who ended up stuck in the kiln. Understandably speedrunners were pretty excited and it turned out the same trick could be used to wrongwarp to other useful places too.
Wait wait WAIT! You're telling me the jump off the spiral staircase before O&S is a skip??? I thought that was the only way forward! I'm officially a Dark Souls 1 speedrunner! My PB is likely above 24 hours but I'm on the board baby!

First
Gotta salute the commentator... he's done a good job
hes the first commentator ive heard compliment the runner at GDQ.
grimelios did some amazing guacamelee runs two years ago.
yeah no joke, that guy was amazing! ive been watching ds speedruns a lot, but that guy really explained the shit out of the run and mentioned stuff ive never understood before
Seriously great duo with great chemistry. They work well together
HarrazOtame hell yeah and praising the runner for doing a good job, MVP
Both the commentator and the runner were amazing. What a team!
Also The donations reader, i really liked him!
Even as a veteran of the game, this was incredibly informative. Both the run and the commentary were perfectly planned. Absolute fire.
The best commentator by far.
Agreed
Yea he was he great
He must be a great player :)
Turns out he was well educated on ds1
No question. Shows how just a little planning can have a big pay off.
This is the most formal and professional speedrun I've ever seen
Cogombre i know right? Honestly some great commentary and explanations about the entire route and all the tricks. Let alone the great run itself.
regole is the goat
Regole in Italian means rules 😏
You can tell how the commentator planned it out to get as much info packed in there, 100% appreciated!
Agreed.
He did an amazing job of explaining all the intricacies of the run. Even as someone played this game for 5000+ hours and did some speedrunning himself, this was fascinating to watch.I've never seen this route before.

36 minutes. That is the time it took me to create my character.
That's the total time of all the attempts I took to kill the Asylum Demon with the broken straightsword hilt to get a mediocre strength weapon
And the character looked shitty anyways because this is dark souls
That’s the total time It took me to break my controller and say fuck this game
Thats the time it took me to summon the courage to play this game
It is evident that both the runner and the commentator put a lot of effort in preparing for this run, which in turn seems very respectful to the event and the cause. Polite, professional, entertaining and informative.
Both player and commentator were on it. Clearly very well-rehearsed. Nice job!

They could do a dark souls run in every gdq and i would watch all of them

same for ocarina of time. These two games are extremely watchable for speedruns
this commentary is seriously great, i'm towards the end of my first time running through dark souls and I feel like i'm learning so much random stuff about the game
To each their own but I think spoiling yourself the game takes quite a bit of the fun out of it.
Welcome to the club bro
Zerofodão Couldn’t agree more.
Commentator is amazing, so many info that needs to be delivered in so little time, and he nails it
This is what I miss from GDQ, a great run and a knowledgeable commentator. It really felt like they were bolth doing the run. Great chemistry
Do you know of another great duo like this?
@@_Blonca Check out Byte Doom 2016 GDQ
Damn that commentator did a fantastic job.
Also great runner, they fit together really well.

Aw Lawrence! What an amazing donation ! Thats awesome dude!

It's sincerely a great game, all claims of difficulty aside.
There are ways to beat everything, it isn't impossible at all. Use your head.
Siegmeyer of Catarina: This gate is closed and I must get past it. Hmm, what to do?
Chosen Undead: Have you tried looking down?
Very nice run, and shout-out to the Quintessential Gamer, Lawrence Sontag.

Ha, was that actually him? I tilted my head when I heard the name.
I miss him so much. He added such a cool vibe to Funhaus vids.
The anime dad himself!

Lawdog
Sir Lar
Yessir!
best couch
The way he takes down the Anor Londo's archer (at 14:00) is incredibly satisfactory.
The speedrunner and commentor are so polite and professional.
I spent 30 hrs to reach Londo... he needed 10 minutes exactly
Lol I never made it
ur not counting the thousands of hours it took him to retry it until he could make that time
DuckieMcduck good point lol
I mean it took him hundreds or thousands of hours to get to a point where he could reach Londo in 10 minutes
Yea he makes it look so incredibly easy.
i dont know why, but at all gdq's Dark souls runs are pretty good
