I believe this game was created for speedruns, I am sure about that after noticing that lower norfair stone cave doesn't have heat damage, which means that creators thought somebody will get there without suites
This may be the best run in AGDQ history. The most engaging, the most tense, the craziest, and the most fun. Who knew it would be the last in person GDQ for a while. Such a moment in time.
I still remember the first time I watched a SMI speed run done by NintendoCapriSun. It feels like it was a decade ago. The thing I remember the most was when he did so badly in one of the hell runs; he just sped the footage up and added some awesome audio over it. Good times!
Watched the run live and where I live that meant a whole nighter as it was 4 at night (The Netherlands) when it started. No regrets. This was by far one of the best runs in AGDQ history. A Kaizo Metroid run and deathless up to Ridley?! Oats you continue to show us you are a Godgamer.
Otra crazy to watch these kids do what I did on my own as a teen when this game first came out. I had no idea sled runs where a thing. I just challenged myself to beat the game faster and faster cuz I loved it so much. Crazy to see this turned into a sport like this now. Teenage me would have killed to be a part of such thing.

I watched oatsngoats kaizo super Metroid run last night right before watching this run and I can’t lie.. although this run is amazing it felt underwhelming compared to his feat in Kaizo. The guy is amazing. I have died several times on a vanilla run of super Metroid. He makes it look so easy like I could do what he does until I try and get frustrated and rage quit.
crazy to think this was a few months before covid shut the country down. it was already ripping through the US though, and just hadn't been identified properly. i was one of the first people to get the original (and insanely brutal) strain of covid. i got it flying from SEA to LAX, as did literally everyone else on that flight, in seattle, and in LA for the most part. it was a strange experience to be so violently sick that i thought i might actually die, have literally every test come back negative, the illness doesn't respond to literally any kind of treatment, and then see information about covid become public (although initially heavily downplayed). Covid was already spreading in the US in november 2019, so it makes me wonder if it got to AGDQ on the east coast by jan.
I stayed up way later than I meant to to watch this run live... knowing how tight the window to save the animals and then get back to freedom and knowing that if you FAILED you'd have to fight Mother Brain all over again?? How could I possibly rest? Such an amazing and entertaining run!
I really liked the moderation in this run. I remember seeing previous AGDQ's where the moderation was just constantly cutting into the players explanations to get donations out, etc. This this it was super chill and a good atmosphere.

SM Impossible is a great hardcore game. It's different from most of the HC games. It has huge amount of various precise movements. For example Mario and Super Meat Ball is all about jumping. Dark Souls is all about dodging. Quake and Half-Life is all about bunnyhops, but man SM is truly the mothergod of skillset because it has too many tactics.
I believe this game was created for speedruns, I am sure about that after noticing that lower norfair stone cave doesn't have heat damage, which means that creators thought somebody will get there without suites
This is the most hype speed run I've ever seen. And there's a reason he's called the GOAT
This may be the best run in AGDQ history. The most engaging, the most tense, the craziest, and the most fun. Who knew it would be the last in person GDQ for a while. Such a moment in time.
"Making mistakes leads to death"
Thankfully I only make happy little accidents
I still remember the first time I watched a SMI speed run done by NintendoCapriSun. It feels like it was a decade ago. The thing I remember the most was when he did so badly in one of the hell runs; he just sped the footage up and added some awesome audio over it. Good times!
As a kid in the 90s, Super Metroid went over my head. 30 years later, I went back and beat it. Now I understand why it was so loved..
During the Sporespawn fight, Oats takes damage down to 69 health. The next time he talks, you can hear somebody in the crowd yell "nice!"
Trying to focus on the run is hard when the legendary legs of Poo are so shiny and distracting!
He had them specially digitally created just for the event!
@@sbyamibakura I heard he has advanced hologram technology
Steven Hudson yeah it’s the same technology they used for the Tupac hologram at Coachella , poo got that mad stream moneyz
This was honestly one of the best closing ceremonies I've seen to finish off a marathon in a while.
I have rewatched this run so many times, definetly my favorite movie of all time.
Oats can beat this. While talking. While being watched by someone. 58:21: I felt that “oh nooo” in my pelvis.
I wonder what the creators of this game would think if they knew that 26 years later it's still so heavily viewed and loved by so many.
Amazing job and great commentary, Oats. Keep pushing the limit!
Sub 1:50 is next
Watched the run live and where I live that meant a whole nighter as it was 4 at night (The Netherlands) when it started.
No regrets.
This was by far one of the best runs in AGDQ history.
A Kaizo Metroid run and deathless up to Ridley?!
Oats you continue to show us you are a Godgamer.
I can't believe they let this go on AGDQ, absolute madlads!
And they let this for the very last on AGDQ!
Feels wrong to not have Super Metroid being the last run, it's so iconic.
Another run like that was Low% Metroid Prime 2 a while ago; is there just something about stupid hard Metroid that makes them feel reckless?
I love it when a runner (and the guys on the couch) can entertain a crowd. This run was so fun to watch.
I appreciate the fact that the Save/Kill was such a large gap most likely because Save made it much harder in this run for Oats compared to Kill.
I still consider this one of the Best runs ever. And the Best couch ever.
I recall spending ages in the Red Tower trying to do exactly what was done in the run my first time playing Super Metroid... I feel vindicated.
This is such a good run with great commentary and a great couch; this is at least the third time I've watched this run in a year and it never gets tiring.
Great run oats

"An incredible start to the year."
Blake why did you have to jinx it like that?
I’m almost feeling nostalgic watching this with all of these people in the same room, enjoying themselves in the “before times.”
@@Norweeg here's praying to whatever God will listen that we can see Dread live and in person at GDQ in 3 months. Speedruns have progressed so fast in that game so I'm looking forward to seeing how it'll be by that point
The year proceeded to take a *nosedive*
This was an *extremely* cool run! Really hope this returns!
Well done everyone!

Me: how bad could it be
1 minute in: 20 seconds to escape
Well dayum.
This ROM hack is amazing. And hard.
crazy to think this was a few months before covid shut the country down. it was already ripping through the US though, and just hadn't been identified properly. i was one of the first people to get the original (and insanely brutal) strain of covid. i got it flying from SEA to LAX, as did literally everyone else on that flight, in seattle, and in LA for the most part. it was a strange experience to be so violently sick that i thought i might actually die, have literally every test come back negative, the illness doesn't respond to literally any kind of treatment, and then see information about covid become public (although initially heavily downplayed).
Congrats on this run Oats, definitely one of the best ever runs on GDQ
anything: is funny
Andy: *wheeze*
I really liked the moderation in this run.
I remember seeing previous AGDQ's where the moderation was just constantly cutting into the players explanations to get donations out, etc.
This this it was super chill and a good atmosphere.
When I was a kid, Phantoon was the one who told me that Santa wasn't real.
"is this even randomized?"
Funny every time oas
Man, that run was magnificent. I respect you for how you clapped for the donation in the middle of *intense* fight with the boss (2:21:21).
17:18 - 3 million hype
43:05 - 3.04 million+ (new GDQ record)
A run so good I come back to watch it in 2021. The combination of an amazing couch, an enthusiastic crowd and a solid host, but I think most of all, Oats, just an absolute beast.
This run is cemented in my brain as one of the coolest things in a GDQ to date.
I like how GPB has NO IDEA WHAT HE’S TALKING ABOUT, and is only there because he’s a good friend of Oats and he’s so charismatic. But boy, that Charisma TOTALLY makes GPB worth it, LOVE YA GPB!!! 💕❤️💜💙💚💛🧡
Poo brings positivity and energy to the couch. Seems like a good man. Plopping him down on the couch for a Super Metroid run seems like a good move.
Joe Hartnett Heck yeah!!! When my faith in humanity is damaged with all of the seemingly new ways that negativity is introduced into the world, here comes GrandPooBear to restore that faith! He truly is a really good guy, one of the special ones!
That and he likes to just goof off rolling with the fact he doesn't know much.

Hell yeah! This is the most entertaining speed run I’ve ever seen because the runner and the couch have such fantastic chemistry and personalities. Amazing run and I’m very impressed
Oh my that Ridley fight ! And the Varia right after that ! This has to be the trolliest thing I've ever seen.
Oh, and kudos for the spiked metroids joke.
In case it hasn't been explained elsewhere, that strange donation message was a reference to the song "Mairzy Doats"
Well done, sir! Thank you for your contributions to this wonderful cause, excellent work!
Amazing run! Super Metroid has been one of my favorite games since release. Based on GDQ, I tried to learn RBO this past Summer. Gives a whole new appreciation of how hard a lot of those movements and tricks are. It's amazing that we're still playing SM 26 years later!
This was legendary, I can say this is the best speedrun I have ever seen, even with the deaths, I can surely say that your skill level is over 9000!
This guy is routinely and almost casually pulling moves I didn't know existed!
Still one of my favorite speedruns to watch, even a year later
How is it possible to humanly play fast like this ? And yet the proof is there in front of us. This guy is a genius.
At least there’s no spikes in this room.
Mate you made that look so easy. I know how hard that was really. Seriously impressive.
