I'm so glad i was able to watch this live! My gf was watching too. We were blown away at the donations. As soon as i heard the $11,111 donation i was like 'yeahlight is a legend'
As soon as the announcer read $11,111 I was like “YEAHLIGHT!”
Who is Yeahlight?? I've seen them donate 10s of thousands of dollars to multiple streamers.

He said on stream that his hands were frozen and he had to run them under hot water before the run. I can imagine that nerves didn’t help! Either way he did a great job.
how come they didn't have heat or less AC? does someone there like it really cold?
@@TheUltimateRare I can tell you that those places are hotbeds for sweaty, stinky dudes, so keeping it cold probably reduces the problem a bit.

I'm seriously impressed with Oats both running this.. insane technical game, as well as being like.. a really good GDQ runner. He was being personable, chatty, explaining the run, and giving a ton of room for donations. Most other runs don't even bother to give room for any donations. It's like.. really impressive.
That acid run was one of the most stressful things I had ever witnessed in a GDQ.
i'm always in awe of oatsandgoats skill in this game... actually every super metroid runners skill in this game. like they make all of the complicated movements look SO EASY. it's NUTS. like how do they do perfect wall jumps then into ball curl to fit into the wall. like jesus man. it's like watching sc brood war players perfectly micro their army to make it look like starcraft broodwar had really good pathing. hahahah.
Not only can Oats play the hell out of Metroid, he’s also an amazing speaker/commentator. Love this guy.
Enjoying the run, just gotta give a shout-out to the host. @12:02 She dutifully read the donation, totally read the room, and HANDLED that negative air in the room, so sick.
Damn and then @57:00 you dunked on her goat impression and she turned it around to focus on the donations. That's just a skilled host.
She also immediately linked the “medical attention” joke to the cause. Impressively quick thinking on her part.

@@legless8528 Just a running joke in his stream, there's a a friendly antagonistic relationship between him and his chat which doesn't always translate well to big group events.

watching you run over Varia was fun though, glad you didn't choke after that moment, showing everybody what Metroid runners are made of
Running SMI at GDQ was impressive but this was another level. An incredible run with some great clutch moments, and first-timing both the space jump spikes and acid dive sections was pure baller.
You are the Best Super Metroid Player ever, i want to be like you when i grow up. I saw the event alive. and proud and happy that everyone could see this amazing romhack and you executing all the way crushing it
When Oats said he was going to do SM impossible at an event they laughed...but he did it. They said no one could top it....oat smiled. Now he is back.

I caught a few of the practice streams but the 3-minute lava dive still had me sweating bullets. Amazing composure under pressure

This is awesome. I remember being so proud of myself back in like 2001 when I 100% speedran this game. Can't even remember my time, but I know it was sub 3 hours (lol). But watching Oats slay this: he is the GOAT of SM.
Of all the Super Metroid runners I watch (Zeni, Zoast, etc.) Oatsngoats is the most entertaining one.
Super awesome run Oats! The death count is impressive for a live run and you nailed most of the hard parts. Especially the super long acid run after ridley was *chef's kiss*.

Man, I don't really follow you actively, but god damn, I am flabbergasted. I've watched your SMI run from AGDQ 2020 multiple times, and this Kaizo run seems much harder when it comes to precise execution. Even so, you absolutely killed it. Congratulations, your work towards this run has paid out hugely.

Highlights of the run for me were:
24:10 - I randomly thought of Yeahlight's crazy donation pyramid a few days ago, and hearing the amount just made me go, "The madlad did it again."
37:14 - Backup strat for the Kihunter room before Screw Attack
1:48:40 - Spike maze for first power bombs
2:04:27 - Acid maze
And the various donations with rhymes and execute puns; they're a lot better than previous years' donos IMO
I think it would've been funny if Oats kept the explanation for skipping Mother Brain phase 3 until the escape started. Was hoping to see what the crowd's reaction would be from finding out that you can skip the fight in Kaizo lol.

Tried to catch this live, but unfortunately was out yesterday. I watched the end and was very glad to see it under estimate. You killed it oats! Even under gdq pressure you executed.
I watched this live - I detected Oats was nervous but he pulled it off like the champ he is
He wasn't nervous- he was sick as a dog. He did a rewatch on his stream afterward where he explained his mindset and thoughts on the run and mentioned that he was glad for the mask covering up how runny his nose was and how awful he looked in general. Arguably even more impressive, imo!

Gotta be honest, was kinda nervous in the beginning. Oats had a slow station and then died where he usually does not. But MAN did he put on a show as he got started! Great job on this one oats :D

Oats great job with this run. I remember so many practice sessions of you dying to thr spikes at the beginning and you did fantastic. What an asset to the speedrunning community you are defiantly the best super metroid player ever!
There are so many rooms that would take me a week to get through alone. Forget speed running. Just doing a few of these rooms at all is insane. I’ve beaten super Metroid at least 4 times, but just the regular game is challenging enough for me lol
I'm glad they're doing live audience again, it's one of my favorite parts of gdq, hearing the audience react, clap, etc.
