I like the runs where they methodically go over what they are doing
Joe Kelly that’s what I was thinking, not a big fan where they just sit there and just play the game, tell me what’s happening lol
ofc that's literally an addition level of difficulty/ distraction
@@venomtang which makes it an additional layer of mastery to enjoy. Even when the game is too difficult I like when they bring someone on the couch knowledgeable about the the run.
Totally great comment I agree
"He takes more damage if you hit him in the Gwyndolin"
HOW DID NOBODY LAUGH?? HAVE THEY NEVER PLAYED DARK SOULS?????
someone said the mic doesnt pick up the audiences voice very well. It aint like Kimmel's show or something
Timestamp it!
@@Pluto0318 Little bit after 39:00
Was lookin for that comment, cuz I died there XD
@Madness You like hating things just because people like them, don't you?
This was the best run. The commentary was extremely entertaining, his cool demeanor while playing was incredible. More spacey1_ hype! Seriously a pro. Great run man.
Second only to spacey1
third only to spacey
Fourth only to space

Execution-wise, one of the best runs of the event and the best run of DS III specifically at a GDQ. Everything was done super well and the solo commentary was cool and calm.
I love how he explains everything, for both veterans and people who haven't played the game.
I'm an hour in and the fact that he has half a million souls is giving me intense anxiety.
Lul first time i played through the ringed city i had 2 million
@@Deadshot901 Some people farm, some people dupe, some people don't
And some people will just look at their souls and not care. Cuz there's only one soul they care about. THEIR OWN!!!
I dupe v1.00
This guy KILLED this run. Awesome explanations, super well done tech’s, absolutely loved this from start to finish
That was a great run! He knows when to be serious when he needs to, and calls for donations when it's necessary. Soulsborne is one of my favorite series and it's great to see competent runners of it. The bloodborne run wasn't as good as last years, but still worth a watch.
Boss gave me a extended 2hour long lunch, let me just casually beat dark souls real quick
Did you complete it?
Great Run; Good Commentary.
The lag really annoyed me but the runner dealt with it well.
Consice explainations and peerless execution throughout.
Thouroughly enjoyed. Gonna look out for spacey more :-)
Darkeater Midir was my nightmare on this game, maaan I died uncountable times to this boss, see you killing him like it was one of the hollows is pure gold. Also, loved you run and commentaries, it was a really joyfull run to watch. Thanks.
Absolutely fantastic run and just as great a commentator and player. This is I think my favorite ds3 speedrun + commentary ive ever seen1
Honestly, the confidence with the number of swings in what order is pretty impressive.
This video together with that Dragon Warrior run became my comfort video when I want to watch a speed run. So well done.
Best Run of any game ive watched in a long time. Great runner, good presentation and info.
I was scared they wouldn't upload this VOD. Glad they did, this run is awesome!
This man is literally a machine. I love this explanation as a normal dark souls lover, but this gave me more insight of how amazing the speedrun community is.
I never get tired of enjoying the astonishing soundtrack of this game.
The ultimate one man team. Little bit of tutorial, story telling, playing the game, cracking jokes and controlling the mentioning of donations. All done by one man. 💪
Wow, that was a really clean run. Congrats.
Dude takes 2 minutes to beat nameless king... Respect
This dude killed Yhorm with Sellswords Twinblades... I had NO clue that was possible.
The hollows of New Londo are more alive that this crwod.
The fact that he’s playing the game and telling everyone what he is doing is crazy to me. I fee like I can’t focus if I did that..
Even at the end of a SPEEDRUN the ending makes me feel emotional
Ow my pride. It took me like 8 months to beat this games through the first time
this is possibly one of the best run i ever saw
So many impressive moments in this run, made even more impressive by the excellent ongoing commentary that makes it all understandable to a layperson. Meant to watch a little or skim through, ended up glued to the screen for the whole thing. I'm gonna go make a donation to GDQ even though this run was forever ago now...
Best snoot boop of the marathon
holy shit
this was amazing
"Blueberries"
Ah yes, the fire keeper's blueberries
Man, he seems like such a lovable guy
Great run and great commentary!
I see a lot of speed runners mention “marathon runs”, I understand this means the event is a marathon but does that also mean they are less stringent on time in a sense? Ie not going for WR but just showing off the techniques of running the game
SuperOriginalName that's pretty cool, thanks for the comment!
Yes, because actual speedrun is super reset heavy, most of the time just missing a hit on the first boss is grounds for reset. In marathon runs, ie agdq, they are not allowed to reset so they use safe strats
This guys another level.
His Wife's donation is at 11:14
That Pontiff kill was impressive.
This guy is the real boss of the game...he's so good.
Imagine being the mobs against this guy, especially the bosses. Just see a little God drop down and kick ass!
Excellent job!
Farron skip was great, he got it second try. One of the hardest out of bounds jumps in any game imo
Good runner. A lot of hard strats done nicely under pressure from being watched by a crowd.
Well done my dude.
Great player and commentator
woah, just realized the rectangles behind the run time are counting in binary
By the time this guy defeated the soul of cinder I would have only been on vordt of the boreal valley
This was really entertaining and informative; will be using that strat for the Irithyll croco-dog in future!
This is how long it took me to beat one boss
This is more like a tut then a speed run tbh yea I know he did speed run but he helped me a lot!
that ending seems to be a reference to hxh when the dude calls out to the girly.
Is that tumble buff glitch patched? I've been trying to recreate it and it doesn't seem to work. Great run! Kudos to spacey1
there's an easier one doable with a bow in your offhand now
FromSoftware: It's dangerous to go alone! Take this Estoc.
spacey1: (tosses Estoc) Fuck you. We're doin' this LIVE!
How are the donations that high compared to other events? Is it for charity or something?
This is for Charity, Yes.
godly multitasking
never cared for speedruns cause the commentary is always boring . but deadass i fw this guy
How rare is a run this good without the actual run being the current best? On GDQ nonetheless
Sekiro hype?
Did anyone else think it was cute when he got a donation from his wife and smiled when he heard her username
Time plzzz
11:00 mins
That's the cutest shit I've ever seen.
Audience doesn't even register it
No
Me: So this is the first boss, I'm going to do one R1, panic, four circles to roll at random around the arena. Then you'll see this huge wind up for his attack? Well my brain will stop working at this point so I"m going to forget how to dodge and walk right into it. When he does the same move again next, I'll drink my estus flask timing it to frame perfectly get hit right before the heal completes, negating any heal I would get from it. Now to end the fight, I'll dodge, dodge, dodge and...perfect, right off the arena I go.
Stephen Owen Your comment made me blow a substantial amount of air out of my nose. Don’t give up, skeleton!
*light audience applause*
There was also a loud stream of air from my nose whilst reading this. Sums up my first 100 encounters LUL.
"Why are you the way that you are?"
How I play
tough crowd. i actually enjoyed his jokes
I think the audio just doesn't pick the crowd up well. You can hear them when they're saying something loudly (like "HYYYYPE!") but it's really faint. So there are probably a lot of softer laughs that you can't hear
His mic doesn't pick up much noise form the crowd, probably intentionally.
I think talk shows have boom mics aimed at the audience to pick up their reactions. GDQ needs to test try the same thing for their events.
boop him on the snoot
I think part of it was they were being quieter for him. A few times he gave the OK to clap and the announcer only asked once or twice(ish) if it was OK to jump in for a sec. Spacey sounded like he knew exactly what he wanted to say, exactly when he wanted to say it so he was sort of doing traffic control in a way.
Which is pretty cool if you think about it. Basically a one man stage play with Dark Souls 3.
Also, crowd was probably really focused on the monitors because even just watching people play a Souls game takes concentration.

Runs that don't have a couch are usually pretty lame, but this guy is entertaining, amazed that he can commentate like that and still play well.
He might have refused to have a coach accompany him since he seemed to love commentating by himself
I always crack up when a runner does really solid commentary on their own run, in real time. That is two, very distinctly different set of skills being performed at a very high level at the exact same time by one person.
That was this run. Actually Spacey was also doing crowd control as well, letting them know when it was OK to clap, read donations, etc. That is taking in and responding to a whole lot of stimuli happening right there.
Yeah that's the first thing I thought how he's so calm and collective playing this ridiculously hard game while also being informative and also funny
Video games help us at multitasking, that video is pure proof
Spacey's IRL CC effects have hit level cap.
I can’t even do one of these things half as competently
Very well said. Smart smart man
Holy crap, from all the AGDQ dark soul's runs this has to be one of the most impressive
Haha this guy has ice in his veins, it's impressive how calm he stays pretty much this entire run.
idk guys it's probably pretty nerve-wracking doing a one attempt live speedrun for tenss of thousands of people!!!
@@dilsco It's much easier when you've had the practice he's had.
Says mastershake the guy who literally has ice in his veins
I'm 12 hours into my first playthrough and this guy overtook me in 17 minutes.
my first ever ds3 playthrough (it was my first dark souls game too) took me like 50 hours
same - 10 hours in, he beat me in 10 minutes :D I was actually pretty close to beating the second boss (the tree) on the first try, but I tend to explore a lot, seems like there's much more to this game than you can see in the speedrun
I like to enjoy the games as much i as I can with the first playthrough
I feel bad because the hype for Bloodborne right after this run really brought down how much people cared for this run. Great run, one of the best from the event by far. Sad to see more people caring about Bloodborne being next rather than the run at hand, though.
I mean its prob just the fact that we see dark souls every gdq for the last like 15 years lol bloodbourne is a little more rare ro see
Lol isn't dark souls 1 only 9 years old though
@@NosferatuXGutts speed running so advanced, runners complete games before they're developed.
This guy's stupidity transcends time and space
I just started playing dark souls 3 for the first time last week. I've been playing for about eight hours. Glad to see I'm nine minutes in.
49:00 "The voice acting's good..." *Enemy's unholy screeching*
Anyone:
Oceiros: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
In the same vein 31:40 "and he nicely hands us the ring pay no attention to the deathcry"

This video, speedrun, and Spacy definitely deserve more views. I’m surprised this has such low views as of this time in comparison to the other GDQ 2019 runs. Nice run and commentary.
That may have something to do with the fact that (on my computer anyway, using Google) searching for 'agdq 2019 dark souls 3' doesn't bring this run up.
Agreed
I was waiting for this run, but I think it flew under the radar. It was probably due to the amount of videos that got released.
Yeah, it didnt appear for me either. I tried looking for it too.
most people saw Spacey1´s run, he was faster than Spacey1_´s
love it when runners are very informative.
today I actually decided to make a sellsword run and I was wondering why other straight swords were better until you just told me that they only get OP with sharp infusion and a soft cap in dex.
It's not lost on me that his wife hyped him up like that. That's great.
His wife tragickiwi is super adorable. Its awesome he has support like that. She seems so proud!
Not gonna lie, that ending was pretty badass.
I didnt really understand the ending, what did he do? swing the sword just at the right time so that it shows the animation but doesnt hit her?
He killed her instead of getting the "real ending"
@@zanekreger8041 he didn't
Was a set up fake out to time perfectly so the line of the sword in the dark seems like he kills her but instead doesn't and it's only revealed by the voice of the fire keeper. Most people wanted to kill her.
Also there is no real ending but the "most canon ending" would be the usurpation of the fire ending which won't be done into speedruns because it requires following Anri questline which takes a lot of time.
@@Endeva09 He swung in the other direction just enough to make the sword swing look like it might just barely connect, but it did not.
Damn. I've never liked these live runs. But this guy was genuinely entertaining. I liked his little quips, clearly a tough crowd! GG man 👌
I really like this guy.
It was a great time watching him, he is an amazing players obviously and nothing fills me with more fun watching someone play than the ones who are outsanding at teaching what they do by explaining it nicely and precisely
He takes more damage if you hit him in the gwendolyn lolll
“This skip has never been shown at a gdq”
**No Signal**
Was that intentional?
@@plumpbird2005 I don't think it was the guy seems willing to share knowledge most likely someone tripped on a cable there was plenty lag already
This got me just further conviced it was all pre-recorded.
I was so impressed with the death cam run in the painted world. I think my jaw hit the floor from how smooth that was.
Most skips that are glitches and not just movement tech were found by accident.
what do you think the estus flask tastes like? i imagine a mix of mango, pineapple, and orange juice but it's carbonated.
That...sounds really good, kinda wanna try that
probably tastes of ash
Sunny D ?
Rob C Whisky, but the consistency of syrup.
Caramelized onions
Such a good commentary.
Yeah I was immediately impressed by it. Really neat.
*Spacey1 starts Ds3*
Ds3 Bosses : oh shit not again
I am dead lololol this guy has such a mastery of the game it is next level :)
"boop em on the snoot, then give him some belly rubs" *viciously murders doggo* LMAO!
Going back and revisiting old agdq slots, I feel like this is the best showcase any runner has done. Spacey offers clear and concise commentary on his run while smoothly transitioning between strat explanations, he only gets one minor detail wrong (estus upgrades) which doesn't really play into the speedrun itself, he's extremely focused on playing both the game and the crowd, he gets almost every skip first try and finishes the run with no major mistakes (deaths), and he did the entire thing without a couch behind him. Really impressive stuff, and entertaining the whole way through.
Not to mention that clutch save during vilhelm skip, holy moly
He got estus wrong? His explanation sounded correct to me. Estus shards increase number of uses, bone shards increase how much each drink refills your HP.
"Yes clap for that, that's fine" 😂
This guy seems much more credible, calm and cooler than other "soulsborne" runners that just screams and act insane in streams. Gonna follow this guy ! :)
So you really want to just hit the younger brother as much as possible.
This comment is really under appreciated
Pontiff was incredible, wow
Edit: Champion Gundyr was INSANE
He made nameless king look like child's play, that blew my mind.
@@YourPalHDee Not to mention the hardest part for him is the "chicken"
Congrats to Spacey, that's the fastest Farron skip I've seen in a speedrun!
I am still amazed by all GDQ events. Just think about it: We nerds get to spectate some awesome speedrun skills. The nerd runners get to show off their skill. And everyone is making A LOT of money for a charity cause.
This dude must do commentary on all his runs while he’s practicing with no crowd at home, cause that was SMOOTH!
I should do homework
me too lol
this is more important, rip grades
Why, homework skip is one of the easiest skips in this game.
did you do it?
Did you do it yet?
Best fake-out, there was a second where I thought he screwed it up but I shouldn't have doubted him.
0:00:00 - 1:43:00
_M y. G o d._
I wonder why there were so many lag spikes? DS3 isn't super well optimized but you don't need a monster PC to run it at smooth 60. Props to the runner for not letting it effect him or his run.
"I wanna thank dist, for trying his best to make this unplayable with all the skips" LUL
My god. That was an incredible run. That Midir fight. I'm still stunned. Great job! :D
that fucker supposed to be tanky as fuck, why he 's so soft in that damn speed run ....
this guy really knows his shit. And as someone who did Yhorm The Hard Way back in my first playthrough it was... cathartic to see it here.
Android 19 you died to yhorm?
Same! I remember the first time I saw someone use storm ruler I was so tilted. Lol i brute forced him so many times.
Awesome run Spacey! This was the only run I actually watched throughout.
OMG YOU KNOW HOW LONG IT TOOK ME TO BEAT PONTIFF.....and he beats him in 13 seconds... wwwooooooowwww
look at midir man, pontiff aint got no shit on that midir fight
