I definitely didn't love the couple, he wasn't the worst but I was hoping that lane would date someone I rooted for or had something interesting (I'm not a zach hater I just didn't care that much about him), and that's not zach, I even got excited when brian wrote a song for lane (or he just added her name on it) bc it would've been so much interesting at least
I actually don't think they are that bad together, except for the time they were broken up, which was a weird plot line in many ways, the communicate quite well together and I think their energy really matches. And yes, Zack has his problems, but I don't think he deserves all the hate he got and I don't like how people are always so mean about his intellect, to me he almost seems like he has some kind of learning disability (he says himself that he is slow sometimes), but I would argue he has a lot of social intelligence (like he even got Ms. Kim to like him) I'm also pretty sure he plays the most instruments out of everyone in the band, even more obscure once like the mandolin, which indicates to me that he is willing to learn, when he is interested in something, you know like these kids that always almost fail every class, but then they get a job repairing cars and suddenly they excel at everything they do and even get better at things they struggled with before, like math. Also I think it's adorable how quickly he just became a devoted dad and husband. All in all I feel like the biggest problem was that he was kind of an afterthought and they really didn't do much to develop his character, after he and Lane started dating. Dave Rygalski being based on the irl guitar-playing husband of Helen Pai, the show producer and bff of ASP Lane is based on, is definitely proof that Lane and Dave were written to be a serious longterm relationship, probably "endgame", not just a first love. Which is why Zack is such a disappointment. Zack was clearly never written to fulfill a serious boyfriend role, so it feels forced when he's shoehorned into that role. They have no romantic chemistry and the result is Lane's story getting the short end of the stick. It's tough but they probably should have recast Adam Brody as Dave in s4 instead of writing out the character entirely, or atleast introduced a new love interest similar enough to him. Not Zack.
I think introducing a new character similar enough to Dave would have been the safest approach. Although I could see a recasting working out as well. I agree that Zach was written in a very specific way since the beginning and his personality wasn't written in a way that would be compatible with Lane.

And if they still really _really_ wanted that Zach boyfriend arc after Brody's unforeseen exit, imo it should have just been written as a coming-of-age phase, the way Rory's boyfriends are written, to explore, say, Lane having a rebound or a more casual relationship after Dave is gone or something. It could factor into her character development before she found her real partner (and perhaps then they could have Dave returning if Brody had more time to guest star later, or that new Dave type you suggested or maaaaybe even Brian...because even that's more interesting than her being with Zach 😅). And yes, a proper final partner who wouldn't just get her pregnant at 20 and have their stories end as typical parents in Stars Hollow because Lane who loved her music so so hard and was so committed to that dream deserved more excitement and rocknroll than that.

She was friends with the guy who played Zack, and wanted Sebastian Bach so badly that she was unable to add any other long term characters. She didn't care enough about Lane's future to worry about that first and foremost. It is a shame that she cared so little about the woman who represents her supposed best friend. I cannot help but wonder what Helen Pai thought about Lane ending up with the guy they introduced as a pathetic loser. The perfect example of this is when she put us through that ridiculously long musical. It was simply placed in the show so that she could showcase her friend, the Broadway star. I had no opinions on her until I saw a panel where she was extremely hateful to a little boy and then smirked as if she was proud to try to humiliate a child. Ever since then, I see her in a new light.
I think a lot about the parallels between Dave and Henry. Both nice guys who are super interested in Lane. Henry wasn’t willing to make sacrifices for Lane, but Dave was ready and willing to go above and beyond.

Basically in pretty in pink (in the original script) the pink girl was supposed to end up with Ducky, her best friend who had been a prominent character from the very start of the movie. But then, during the test screening the audience was so disappointed that the pink girl didn't end up with the other guy that they changed the ending, but the thing is this other guy was never supposed to be more than a plot device for story, he had appeared for only a few scenes and had no personality whatsoever and no chemistry with the girl. I love him. He is smart, he has this dry humor which I love. They share a pession for music, yet he looks at Lane as her own person, and doesn't want to change her. He accepts a terrible mom - I mean, I know, Mrs. Kim is not a bad person per say, but she is absolutley difficoult, and he doesn't run, he works with her. Everybody, everybody deserves her own Dave. And I never noticed the parallel with Rory and Dean, such a cool detail! Same goes for the contrast with Rory and Jess later!
Honestly, healthy relationships with good communication, healthy boundaries and honest vulnerability are super rare in gilmore girls. Even the good couples öike jackson and sookie communicate terribly. So Dave and Lane were the only aspirational couple in the show ..
I agree; I think they had the healthiest communication. We don't see a lot of that on the show. I'm sure Babette and Morey would get that accolade as well if they had more screen time, but we'll never know. Paris and Doyle seemed pretty good, although they did have some issues.

I think there’s also something about their relationship that is easily romanticised from an immigrant and/or non-white pov. Very mitski best American girl vibes but the idea of this random white guy not only tolerating the idiosyncrasies of Lane’s home life but actively embracing them is such a dream especially when you’re younger. I think it’s so relatable as someone from an immigrant family to feel almost embarrassed about those sorts of cultural things that can make u feel alienated from the dominant culture you find yourself situated in. Think a lot of woc can relate to the idealising the white guy who will accept you wholeheartedly quirks and all and although there’s a deeper conversation about why one may feel that way and the internalised shame etc. it’s still a really sweet depiction of an often romanticised situation
That is an interesting point. One of my friends suggested that I make a video on immigrant families and how it plays out on Gilmore Girls. I think that the representation of a Korean family on the show is a very deep and interesting topic.
Yeah, the show didn’t have to get rid of Dave, even if he couldn’t make guest appearances they could’ve said that Lane was visiting him or that he was visiting but just not show him
I think a strong part of the reason that Dave is so loved is because Lane is so loved. She’s supportive, encouraging, caring, funny and longs for a life that seems out of reach. She often spoke about experiencing relationships vicariously through Rory, wanting her own relationship, and with all that, as a fan you just want her to have something like that of her own. Then along comes Dave who loves the things she loves, respects her, respects his friends (silly though they may be), respects her mother and is willing to understand (not just put up with) the more restrictive aspects of her life. We almost found the perfect guy for her in Henry Cho, but her restrictions and complicated workarounds. But Dave met her where she was and helped her expand the bubble she was in. He abided by her ruses and even made some of his own! He put in effort for her, and after her experience with Henry, Lane put her foot down for him, he was part of her change.
I understand why people love dave, but I liked him as a first love for lane. I feel Zach gets too much hate. He is a great husband to Lane, earned the respect of her mom, and is a good father to his kids. I hate that they could not even enjoy their honeymoon and went straight to being parents. They deserved better writing in that regards. I want a storyline where Lane finally enjoys sex and she and Zach explore that side of themselves more while still maintaining that mature love that they had. I also love mrs. Kim’s dedication to making sure their band can support them. You don’t always see that side of her.
Zach had a tough act to follow after Dave, so he was already at a disadvantage in the audience’s eyes. Like you mentioned, I also think the writing wasn’t generous to Lane and Zach. They didn’t give them enough time to enjoy the relationship. I never felt that they fit together but that doesn’t make me dislike Zach, just dislike the relationship. I’m all for people who support it, though!
I also love the scene where Mrs. Kim tells him about the crush, it also shows how much she actually cares about Lane’s feelings. She doesn’t want to see her daughter get hurt, or hurt Dave, because she sees his potential as a person. I think it’s sweet.
I love the little humorous ways you write these scripts, like Kirk not being meant to make sense but you will make sense of him anyway, or the way you frame trying to prove Dave isn't as perfect as everyone thinks but no he really is so very perfect lol. I loved this video essay when you first posted it but didn't make time to comment then. I really appreciate all the effort you put into these videos. I wish Dave could've had a goodbye scene or a cameo or something. Even in the revival. We all just really loved him so very much. Although I'm glad The OC got to have him too. I enjoyed both shows.

I once had a comment that tried to explain to me that jealousy wasn't always a negative emotion. I responded that my opinion was it was always a nagative emotion, but how the person reacts to said negative emotion can create a positive outcome in the relationship. Dave is a prime eample of this. The first time was perfect and the second time, while not perfect, the only thing he did wrong was pull a Rory and Jess by not communicating the issue before the jealousy. I give him credit, though for saying something before it becomes a Rory and Jess fight.
Yes! I feel the exact same way. Everybody experiences jealousy at one point or another, it's a natural human emotion. It's how you react to the emotion that matters.
Everyone loves Dave because he wasn't on the series long enough to make people dislike him. If he had stayed, I bet he, like most TV characters, (and real people, for that matter,) had flaws and would do or say something that fans would dislike. Dave wasn't fleshed out enough to be a well-rounded character. But he left the series, so we'll never know what would have happened with Dave Rygalski if the actor hadn't landed a role on The OC!
I love your analysis of the 2 girls' relationships in season 3, I hadn't realized they were in balance like that, super interesting! For a character with such little screen time overall, Dave really did make an impact on fans, I'm sure that had a lot to do with his real life inspo and the authenticity in that.
To be honest, I don't think the parallels were intended by the show but they really stood out to me as I was analyzing their scenes. Dave did impressively win over the audience in a very short time.
I think the two biggest reasons people liked Dave is first the actor like you pointed out Adam Brody is very charismatic I also think the fact that Dave is based on a real person also helps one of Jim Carrey's best characters his character from The Mask he based on his dad and I think if he didn't do that the character wouldn't have been as good and I think that maybe if Dave's character hadn't been based on a real person and his and Lanes relationship hadn't been inspired by real events it wouldn't have been as good.
I had no idea that Jim Carrey based the character from The Mask on his dad! I thought he was really good in that role. Like you said, I guess there might be something to emulating a real person that might bring a certain authenticity to the character (if done right of course).
Do you mean the song "The Man Who Saved the World"? I discovered that song because of the show. It fits so well with that scene. I love how in an earlier scene, Dave starts playing it on his guitar before Mrs. Kim notices.

Dave wasn't a bad character, and he was a good boyfriend. He just wasn't the most developed character. Granted, I think that the writers might have intended to include him in larger plotlines as he and Lane were headed towards marriage, but I feel like he wasn't fleshed out enough overall. As a side note, as someone who does run competitively, I think there's some context you need: a 4:30(4 and a half) minute mile is an incredible time for a runner to run a mile. To give you context, with a four minute mile you could try out for the olympic US track and field team, and 4:30 is D1 good. When I was in high school, only one guy could run a 4:30-and he had been training for 7 years 5-10 miles a day. This is all just to say, I think he probably ran closer to a 7:00/7:15 mile time as I think it's a little more realistic, especially since he has to run another mile of a similar time on the way back with very little break.
Thank you for adding that information! I definitely skimped on my summary on running. A 4-minute mile is unusually good. I should have clarified that it is Olympic-level speed. I think my best time was a little under 11 minutes, and that was when I was really pushing myself (but I'm also just not a competitive runner). I would have to assume Dave was not at the level of running a 4-minute mile.
This explains so much for me! I loved Lane with Dave and I was heartbroken that he just disappeared and she settled for Zach, who was so undeserving, but this makes so much sense. The actor left and she was thrown together with Zach due to unplanned circumstances. It makes me feel a lot better because I have always been LIVID about the injustice of Lane's story.
I am sure, that Dave fell in love with Zack, which confused him, because in the old Gilmore world, this wasn't something, that could happen. He was overwhelmed by his feelings, didn't dare to tell Zack and had to leave. He didn't know, that Zacks feelings towards him were mutual, which is why Zack was so upset, when Dave left. - There was a confusing triangle between Lane, Dave and Zack, but the show couldn't let us know yet.
😅 Oh gosh, I am kind of afraid to touch that relationship, it is a big one. I might cover it, but I think people will hate it. There's so much nuance in that relationship.
I would much prefer if Dave was a long-distance boyfriend that we hear about, since the actor couldn't make it, rather than the end-game that Lane got. It was Zach, for the love of god. 🤢 And we could see Dave again in "A year in the life" 😢in that scenario
I know I'm in the minority when I say I enjoyed most of the storyline with Zach. I don't have to dislike Zach to appreciate Dave. I think Lane's relationship with Zach had both highs and lows, but I think of it fondly when I rewatch or think back to it.
Zach wasn’t terrible, in my opinion. I think the fandom’s dislike of his character primarily stems from the fact that the show set him up with Lane and everybody had high hopes for Lane.

Hi! I will probably tackle April this year, a few people have asked for this character. Mitchum and Anna are good contenders for a video but it may be a while before I address them, they are frustrating characters. 🙁
He's a great boyfriend to be sure, at least compared to every single one of Rory's, but that's a low hurdle to clear (none of Rory's boyfriends were right for her). That said, you declare Dave to be the best boyfriend in the series when Max was basically perfect? The problem with that relationship was timing; Lorelei just wasn't ready (meaning mature) to get married, and this being a TV show, a couple that isn't quite ready to get married can't just go on as a nonmarried romantic couple, they must break up (I've always found that a weird storytelling trope; couple is going strong, marriage talk comes up, one isn't quite ready, so they break up instead of just going on as they were; the only exception I can think of is Spenser and Susan in the Spenser books). Also, Luke, whose big advantage over Max is that he was willing to wait for Lorelei.
I personally don't give Dave the label of best boyfriend as it is too absolute. On a show that doesn't give all love interests the same level of depth, it wouldn't be fair to label one "the best." I found in my research that many people consider Dave to be the best, hence my statement that the fandom sees him in this light (of course not the entire fandom). I do think he is in his own way "perfect," he has flaws but he is also very sympathetic and likable. He's not the best but he's a good partner.

I never loved Dave as much as everybody else and I never fully understood why, I can't argue that he is perfect. Some of the reason might just be that I'm one of the few people that like Lane and Zack together and everybody compares the tow and obviously you can't compete with a perfect relationship. Then there is the fact that I felt really bad for him in many of the story lines, like the s**t he had to put up with and I know he agreed, but still, poor kid. But also, I just kind of didn't buy him, I don't know how to say it, maybe it was the fact that he was so great, and in real life, people aren't that perfect, but he also just doesn't feel like a teenager in a punk band, like he just doesn't have an alliterative/musician vibe to him, as I said it's hard to explain. Also, off topic, but please consider donating blood, I know it's kind of scary, but peoples lifes depend on it.
That is a fair criticism. Dave was written as a very idealized love interest. Not only did he have the same interests, but he was ready to move the earth and moon for Lane, which doesn't usually happen in real life.
I think it depends, it’s certainly possible but I could see ways to keep the character interesting, especially if the show didn’t focus on Lane and Dave.
I really wish they wrote a new character for Lane rather than using Zach. If Logan can be added in the last few seasons for Rory why can't we get that Lane even sooner?

Hey! I might do Logan down the line. I have a long list of topics for Gilmore Girls that I told myself I will cover first. I wanted to start off with covering characters that I haven't seen discussed as often or topics that I haven't seen covered in the same way, so I put the bigger characters on the back burner, for now.
I loved Dave's gentle manner, but I wouldn't put in all that work to date Lane. And Lane's mother was a huge pain in the ass. It just doesn't seem worth it.
What Lane really should have done was leave Stars Hollow, move to New York, and play in several different bands in clubs. I don't care who she ends up with, even if she married Dave and bore him twins it would be about as frustrating. It frustrates me that she wanted so much to be free, and as soon as she grows up she doesn't dare to exercise this freedom, and that's not believable for the character in my opinion. Besides, I am very upset that in all the programs the possibility of abortion was not mentioned. It's clear to me that Lane should have had an abortion when she found out she got pregnant the first time she ever had sex. She is so unprepared for it and is not interested in it and it is sad that the possibility of an abortion is not even raised. Of course, in all the programs born from an unwanted pregnancy, the word abortion is not mentioned and it is very jarring. I would love for you to make a video about it.

Honestly, healthy relationships with good communication, healthy boundaries and honest vulnerability are super rare in gilmore girls.

I agree; I think they had the healthiest communication. We don't see a lot of that on the show. I'm sure Babette and Morey would get that accolade as well if they had more screen time, but we'll never know. Paris and Doyle seemed pretty good, although they did have some issues.

I think there’s also something about their relationship that is easily romanticised from an immigrant and/or non-white pov. Very mitski best American girl vibes but the idea of this random white guy not only tolerating the idiosyncrasies of Lane’s home life but actively embracing them is such a dream especially when you’re younger. I think it’s so relatable as someone from an immigrant family to feel almost embarrassed about those sorts of cultural things that can make u feel alienated from the dominant culture you find yourself situated in. Think a lot of woc can relate to the idealising the white guy who will accept you wholeheartedly quirks and all and although there’s a deeper conversation about why one may feel that way and the internalised shame etc. it’s still a really sweet depiction of an often romanticised situation
That is an interesting point. One of my friends suggested that I make a video on immigrant families and how it plays out on Gilmore Girls. I think that the representation of a Korean family on the show is a very deep and interesting topic.
Dave was the best male romantic character on that show. That's the hill I'll die on 🤷🏻♀️

Yeah, the show didn’t have to get rid of Dave, even if he couldn’t make guest appearances they could’ve said that Lane was visiting him or that he was visiting but just not show him
I think a strong part of the reason that Dave is so loved is because Lane is so loved. She’s supportive, encouraging, caring, funny and longs for a life that seems out of reach. She often spoke about experiencing relationships vicariously through Rory, wanting her own relationship, and with all that, as a fan you just want her to have something like that of her own.
Then along comes Dave who loves the things she loves, respects her, respects his friends (silly though they may be), respects her mother and is willing to understand (not just put up with) the more restrictive aspects of her life. We almost found the perfect guy for her in Henry Cho, but her restrictions and complicated workarounds. But Dave met her where she was and helped her expand the bubble she was in. He abided by her ruses and even made some of his own! He put in effort for her, and after her experience with Henry, Lane put her foot down for him, he was part of her change.
I understand why people love dave, but I liked him as a first love for lane.
I feel Zach gets too much hate. He is a great husband to Lane, earned the respect of her mom, and is a good father to his kids.
I hate that they could not even enjoy their honeymoon and went straight to being parents. They deserved better writing in that regards. I want a storyline where Lane finally enjoys sex and she and Zach explore that side of themselves more while still maintaining that mature love that they had.
I also love mrs. Kim’s dedication to making sure their band can support them. You don’t always see that side of her.
Zach had a tough act to follow after Dave, so he was already at a disadvantage in the audience’s eyes. Like you mentioned, I also think the writing wasn’t generous to Lane and Zach. They didn’t give them enough time to enjoy the relationship. I never felt that they fit together but that doesn’t make me dislike Zach, just dislike the relationship. I’m all for people who support it, though!

I also love the scene where Mrs. Kim tells him about the crush, it also shows how much she actually cares about Lane’s feelings. She doesn’t want to see her daughter get hurt, or hurt Dave, because she sees his potential as a person. I think it’s sweet.
I love the little humorous ways you write these scripts, like Kirk not being meant to make sense but you will make sense of him anyway, or the way you frame trying to prove Dave isn't as perfect as everyone thinks but no he really is so very perfect lol. I loved this video essay when you first posted it but didn't make time to comment then. I really appreciate all the effort you put into these videos. I wish Dave could've had a goodbye scene or a cameo or something. Even in the revival. We all just really loved him so very much. Although I'm glad The OC got to have him too. I enjoyed both shows.

Putting Lane with Zack was stupid and we hate it
I once had a comment that tried to explain to me that jealousy wasn't always a negative emotion. I responded that my opinion was it was always a nagative emotion, but how the person reacts to said negative emotion can create a positive outcome in the relationship. Dave is a prime eample of this. The first time was perfect and the second time, while not perfect, the only thing he did wrong was pull a Rory and Jess by not communicating the issue before the jealousy. I give him credit, though for saying something before it becomes a Rory and Jess fight.
Yes! I feel the exact same way. Everybody experiences jealousy at one point or another, it's a natural human emotion. It's how you react to the emotion that matters.

Everyone loves Dave because he wasn't on the series long enough to make people dislike him. If he had stayed, I bet he, like most TV characters, (and real people, for that matter,) had flaws and would do or say something that fans would dislike. Dave wasn't fleshed out enough to be a well-rounded character. But he left the series, so we'll never know what would have happened with Dave Rygalski if the actor hadn't landed a role on The OC!
I love your analysis of the 2 girls' relationships in season 3, I hadn't realized they were in balance like that, super interesting! For a character with such little screen time overall, Dave really did make an impact on fans, I'm sure that had a lot to do with his real life inspo and the authenticity in that.
To be honest, I don't think the parallels were intended by the show but they really stood out to me as I was analyzing their scenes. Dave did impressively win over the audience in a very short time.
I think the two biggest reasons people liked Dave is first the actor like you pointed out Adam Brody is very charismatic I also think the fact that Dave is based on a real person also helps one of Jim Carrey's best characters his character from The Mask he based on his dad and I think if he didn't do that the character wouldn't have been as good and I think that maybe if Dave's character hadn't been based on a real person and his and Lanes relationship hadn't been inspired by real events it wouldn't have been as good.
I had no idea that Jim Carrey based the character from The Mask on his dad! I thought he was really good in that role. Like you said, I guess there might be something to emulating a real person that might bring a certain authenticity to the character (if done right of course).

Dave was amazing but honestly justice for Henry. It’s totally understandable why he was scared away as a teenager.
Henry does deserve attention too. Maybe I’ll make a video devoted to all of Lane’s relationships.
Dave wasn't a bad character, and he was a good boyfriend. He just wasn't the most developed character. Granted, I think that the writers might have intended to include him in larger plotlines as he and Lane were headed towards marriage, but I feel like he wasn't fleshed out enough overall.
As a side note, as someone who does run competitively, I think there's some context you need: a 4:30(4 and a half) minute mile is an incredible time for a runner to run a mile. To give you context, with a four minute mile you could try out for the olympic US track and field team, and 4:30 is D1 good. When I was in high school, only one guy could run a 4:30-and he had been training for 7 years 5-10 miles a day. This is all just to say, I think he probably ran closer to a 7:00/7:15 mile time as I think it's a little more realistic, especially since he has to run another mile of a similar time on the way back with very little break.
Thank you for adding that information! I definitely skimped on my summary on running. A 4-minute mile is unusually good. I should have clarified that it is Olympic-level speed. I think my best time was a little under 11 minutes, and that was when I was really pushing myself (but I'm also just not a competitive runner). I would have to assume Dave was not at the level of running a 4-minute mile.
This explains so much for me! I loved Lane with Dave and I was heartbroken that he just disappeared and she settled for Zach, who was so undeserving, but this makes so much sense. The actor left and she was thrown together with Zach due to unplanned circumstances. It makes me feel a lot better because I have always been LIVID about the injustice of Lane's story.
I loved Dave! He was awesome! Then Lane married Zack. *sigh*

It was implied that they broke up because Lane balked at getting married to him, which he learned when she told him about the "marriage jug".
I am sure, that Dave fell in love with Zack, which confused him, because in the old Gilmore world, this wasn't something, that could happen. He was overwhelmed by his feelings, didn't dare to tell Zack and had to leave. He didn't know, that Zacks feelings towards him were mutual, which is why Zack was so upset, when Dave left. - There was a confusing triangle between Lane, Dave and Zack, but the show couldn't let us know yet.

I know I'm in the minority when I say I enjoyed most of the storyline with Zach. I don't have to dislike Zach to appreciate Dave. I think Lane's relationship with Zach had both highs and lows, but I think of it fondly when I rewatch or think back to it.

Zach wasn’t terrible, in my opinion. I think the fandom’s dislike of his character primarily stems from the fact that the show set him up with Lane and everybody had high hopes for Lane.

Hi! I will probably tackle April this year, a few people have asked for this character. Mitchum and Anna are good contenders for a video but it may be a while before I address them, they are frustrating characters. 🙁
He's a great boyfriend to be sure, at least compared to every single one of Rory's, but that's a low hurdle to clear (none of Rory's boyfriends were right for her). That said, you declare Dave to be the best boyfriend in the series when Max was basically perfect? The problem with that relationship was timing; Lorelei just wasn't ready (meaning mature) to get married, and this being a TV show, a couple that isn't quite ready to get married can't just go on as a nonmarried romantic couple, they must break up (I've always found that a weird storytelling trope; couple is going strong, marriage talk comes up, one isn't quite ready, so they break up instead of just going on as they were; the only exception I can think of is Spenser and Susan in the Spenser books).
Also, Luke, whose big advantage over Max is that he was willing to wait for Lorelei.
I personally don't give Dave the label of best boyfriend as it is too absolute. On a show that doesn't give all love interests the same level of depth, it wouldn't be fair to label one "the best." I found in my research that many people consider Dave to be the best, hence my statement that the fandom sees him in this light (of course not the entire fandom). I do think he is in his own way "perfect," he has flaws but he is also very sympathetic and likable. He's not the best but he's a good partner.

I never loved Dave as much as everybody else and I never fully understood why, I can't argue that he is perfect.
Some of the reason might just be that I'm one of the few people that like Lane and Zack together and everybody compares the tow and obviously you can't compete with a perfect relationship.
Then there is the fact that I felt really bad for him in many of the story lines, like the s**t he had to put up with and I know he agreed, but still, poor kid.
But also, I just kind of didn't buy him, I don't know how to say it, maybe it was the fact that he was so great, and in real life, people aren't that perfect, but he also just doesn't feel like a teenager in a punk band, like he just doesn't have an alliterative/musician vibe to him, as I said it's hard to explain.
Also, off topic, but please consider donating blood, I know it's kind of scary, but peoples lifes depend on it.
That is a fair criticism. Dave was written as a very idealized love interest. Not only did he have the same interests, but he was ready to move the earth and moon for Lane, which doesn't usually happen in real life.

Hey! I might do Logan down the line. I have a long list of topics for Gilmore Girls that I told myself I will cover first. I wanted to start off with covering characters that I haven't seen discussed as often or topics that I haven't seen covered in the same way, so I put the bigger characters on the back burner, for now.

What I meant to say is that jealousy is an emotion that is typically not desired by people. People don’t usually look positively on this emotion.
I loved Dave's gentle manner, but I wouldn't put in all that work to date Lane. And Lane's mother was a huge pain in the ass. It just doesn't seem worth it.
What Lane really should have done was leave Stars Hollow, move to New York, and play in several different bands in clubs. I don't care who she ends up with, even if she married Dave and bore him twins it would be about as frustrating. It frustrates me that she wanted so much to be free, and as soon as she grows up she doesn't dare to exercise this freedom, and that's not believable for the character in my opinion.
Besides, I am very upset that in all the programs the possibility of abortion was not mentioned. It's clear to me that Lane should have had an abortion when she found out she got pregnant the first time she ever had sex. She is so unprepared for it and is not interested in it and it is sad that the possibility of an abortion is not even raised. Of course, in all the programs born from an unwanted pregnancy, the word abortion is not mentioned and it is very jarring. I would love for you to make a video about it.
