I’ve never thought of Madeline as neurodivergent but now that you say it makes sense! I always felt she saw the world differently from everyone else and through sweet rose colored glasses. It’s actually what makes her and Louise such a good yin and yang, as you mentioned, Louise sees the world through a much darker lens. I think Madeline provides Louise with an optimism and positivity that she craves, along with a loyalty and genuineness that is missing in her home life.
This makes me sad that Lane was never incorporated into the Chilton girl gang because I feel like her, Madeline, Louise and even Paris's combined personalities would've really complemented each other, even more so than Rory
I like to think that she was there off screen, I mean in the episodes where she lives at Yale she seems to be very familiar with Paris, also the episode when they along with Rory get drunk lol.

Her own efforts got her in and I feel like she could’ve easily got in with scholarships cuz she was really smart. Her grandparents did pay for her education but without Rory’s efforts there wouldn’t be education fees for her grandparents to pay

She did get into Yale because she went to chilton but before that she studied in a public high school in stars hollow. Her grandparents didn’t help her get into chilton because when Lorelai told them that Rory got into chilton they were surprised meaning they had no idea that Rory had any interest in chilton so there wasn’t any donations/ intervention from Emily or Richard. So Rory’s grades were the reason she got accepted to all the prestigious institutions
Louise is very aware that her mother is a gold digger. She knows that’s her key to success is not school. Louise sees school as necessary to finding her Prince Charming. Madeline’s mother also married well. Her stepfather had that dope house and allowed her to throw a party while he was out of town. Paris, Louise and Madeline all have a disdain for their mother’s lifestyle. Louise’s mother seems to be having an affair because she realized her husband could go to prison. If u all recall at graduation Louise did several courtesy invites to her several stepmothers. They all showed up. Louise sees relationships as a means to an end that has nothing to do with love. I think her father taught her that as well. Which why he had so many women in his daughter’s life. I was very sad when Madeline Louise or Tristan didn’t make a real appearance on Netflix.
I always wished they would’ve kept Madeline and Louise around through Rory’s college years instead of her Yale friends. They would’ve had an incredibly entertaining dynamic with Logan and his friends.
I know what you mean. If I could have it my way, I would have had either Madeline or Louise start dating someone from Logan's crew and so the girls would keep popping up on the show because of it.
Madeline and Louise are the most underrated Gilmore Girls characters ever, way better than unlikable characters like Christopher, Sherry, Gigi, Mitch and Triston. They, Paris and Rory made such a lovely group of besties and Madeline and Louise always brought some light relief when Rory and Paris took things more seriously. It's such a shame they never returned after the Spring break episode in season 4, Lucy and Olivia in season 7 were just Madeline and Louise replacements and weren't as memorable!

I thought Madeleine looked like Betty Boop with that haircut she had. I really loved Louise also, she was very observant and unapologetic. You are spot on with their characters.
In the rewatch i wanted louise and Madeline to be a couple. They have such interesting chemistry. Its also important to notice that its from rorys pov, so thats why they are onedimemsional. Firstly, they arent a threat to her academically as well as to paris and secondly, just two people she knew in high school, so she wouldnt remember their characteristics.
I was always reminded of the 'holy trinity' on glee, Santana, Quinn, and Brittney, whenever is saw Paris with Madilyn and Louise. And secret lesbian vibes like Brittney and Santana for them or at least hoped lol ❤
I really wish we would've gotten to see them again in A Year in the Life during the episode when they go back to Chilton, I mean if Francie can be there why not Madeline and Louise.
Yeah, that was the scene that led me to my theory that she might be neurodivergent. I saw a Reddit post once talking about Madeline and in the post, the person said that they didn't like Madeline because they felt she was annoying, specifically, the scene where she can't handle the word "blood." When I went back and watched that scene, it made me really sad for Madeline. I didn't see a character that was overreacting, I saw a character that was struggling.
Louise is a great true friend to Paris. I love when they meet on the beach and she tells Paris that she can see skin because that line could have been mocking of Paris's sun protection but she made it in a way where you can see it is care for what she knows to be important to Paris rather than making fun of it. Paris also underestimates Louise's care for her both there by saying "were we really friends at one point" as well as when she is getting ready for her date and tells Rory Louise and Madeleine would tease her and not be helpful. I really believe Louise would do anything for Paris. And I do mean anything, she is totally the one to call to get rid of a body.
She was very sweet! I actually didn't notice it as much until I was watching just her scenes. She was super kind. I wish we got more of her sweetness in the later seasons.

I felt that Madeline and Louise could play some part in AYITL spin-off. I have three theories about how they have ended up: A) they have never left spring break and are still on their 30's making out with each other and looking for the hottest daily club 🤣 B) Louise becomes a DJ and Madeline her manager and they travel around to those cheesy frat parties C) both became drug dealers and have lots of encounters with the law.

She could be for sure. Honestly, it was a bit of an out there theory; the thought just popped into my head when I watched her scenes multiple times but it totally could be a personality type.
@PensiveWhiskers I don't think it's that weird of a theory because this show as a whole is exceptionally neurodivergent. In partucular, I think Rory, Lorelai, Sookie, and Lane all have ADHD as well as probably Christopher and maybe some others, I think we'll Paris and April are both girls who are both autistic and have ADHD (or as people in the community say, they are AuDHD). I have an autistic friend who swears Luke seems autistic to her too. And I absolutely see some autism in Kirk and in Madeline. The creator of the show likely is an ADHDer herself and is surrounded by neurodivergence and doesn't necessarily realize what she's doing when she writes it so fully into all the characters. Heck now that I'm saying all this, even Jackson's obsession with fruits and vegetables veers into autistic special interest territory or something. Taylor's lack of social skills... you could argue this show has more characters one could read autism into than most if you wanted to find it. I, as an ADHDer, mostly just see all the ADHD. But if I remember to look for it I see the autism too throughout the show. And that's fun too because I also have a lot of autistic friends and really get that side of the show as well. My headcanon of Madeline is certainly forever changed by your analysis here in this video so thank you for that! I love it!

It's sad they didn't return even for the Revival but Francine did. So many missed opportunities. Even Madeline's actress was surprised when they (Louise and Madeline's actress) weren't called ever for some scenes at Chilton. It should've been memorable. Also, them trying to portrait Lucy and Olivia as their replacements was a bad move...
Yeah, I think they would have fit in really well into season 6's plotline, after Rory dropped out of Yale. Actually, it would have been fun to see them once every season until the end. I'm happy we got to see them again in season 4.
Both of these characters were annoying when the series originally aired and even more annoying each of the times I've researched the series. Anyone that dumbs themselves down just to not look smart isn't worth much. Make especially wouldn't have been a "popular" girl in highschool, that's for sure! Louise is shallow and had little to offer in way of conversation, ever! Could've done with either of them.
As a nd person myself I totally see Madeline being nd. It reminds me of how I was disregarded as stupid by almost everyone in school despite having scores higher that those of the straight a students in our class on exams and constantly expressing my opinions in class just because I couldn't keep up with the daily demands like homework (hi adhd) and communicating with people (hi autism) and always needed a bit more time to understand a new concept when everyone else was for example solving a new kind of math problems the day we were tought how to do that

Yeah, I think they would have fit in really well into season 6's plotline, after Rory dropped out of Yale. Actually, it would have been fun to see them once every season until the end. I'm happy we got to see them again in season 4.

Both of these characters were annoying when the series originally aired and even more annoying each of the times I've researched the series. Anyone that dumbs themselves down just to not look smart isn't worth much. Make especially wouldn't have been a "popular" girl in highschool, that's for sure! Louise is shallow and had little to offer in way of conversation, ever! Could've done with either of them.
As a nd person myself I totally see Madeline being nd. It reminds me of how I was disregarded as stupid by almost everyone in school despite having scores higher that those of the straight a students in our class on exams and constantly expressing my opinions in class just because I couldn't keep up with the daily demands like homework (hi adhd) and communicating with people (hi autism) and always needed a bit more time to understand a new concept when everyone else was for example solving a new kind of math problems the day we were tought how to do that
