    I was just thinking, it reminds me of how I mod my chainsaw carburetors, adding holes or sizing them up till I got just a bit more power and tuned. Nice concept

    I took screenshots of your up draft baffle when you originally posted your video. From that, I made two baffles for my smoker. Right out of the gate BOOM!!!!! they worked. Best part is they are removable so clean the inside bottom of the smoker is easy to do.

    How would this perform with a stack extension installed, same or slightly different? I assume the design and hole size was based on stock stack height.

    Tried the link but it shows the item is unavailable. Any idea when they will be back in stock? BBQ season is about to ramp up for me since I'm down south and this is the last thing I need going into the season.

    Placed order this afternoon after seeing this video. Been looking for materials to make one since your earlier video showing how yours worked cooking the chicken drumsticks. You saved me alot of time and effort trying to cobble one together myself. Thank you much. Yours looks great. Lots better than mine would have been. My Pecos should be much easier to cook on with this new deflector. Thanks again.

      It sure does! Thanks for pointing that out! Wonder where he got the idea from cause here my video from 11 months ago with this half moon design with holes in it before ANYONE was messing with upward baffles.
      Showed it here in my video 11 months ago

    Still waiting for that video to see how that deflector works with the higher temperatures cause so far the deflector's work with low temperatures either Upwards or downward deflectors. It's getting those high temperatures to be even with either type of deflectors

    • @TheSmokinRedneck
      @TheSmokinRedneck  3 месяца назад +1

      If you’re looking for higher temperatures That video may never come and here’s why,
      my deflector plate design is specifically designed for use in smaller backyard smokers, and promoted for use with smoking temperatures around 200 to 275 degrees. The type of backyard pits I demonstrate using the deflector plate aren’t capable of reliably cooking in the higher temperature ranges in my opinion.
      I also don’t have extensive testing in the higher ranges of temperatures either,
      So therefore I’d never want to promote a product I don’t know will work in those ranges,
      In theory, it will work but I am sure there is a limit of the deflector reliably providing protection.

    Deflector plate works even better without any holes

    • @TheSmokinRedneck
      @TheSmokinRedneck  5 месяцев назад

      My deflector plate design is specifically focused on evening out the temperatures in the cooking chamber (top and underneath the grill grate) and I have a couple videos showing that and proving that.
      It provides a consistent and efficient temperature evenness that allows you to not have to fight severe hot spots and avoid an entire side of your cooking chamber.
      Other “deflector” plates on the market that don’t have holes shoot the heat up and over towards the smoke stack area too quickly and creates a hot spot, which is what you were originally trying to get rid of in the first place so they don’t necessarily make too much sense because now you’re avoiding another spot in your smoker after purchasing something that was supposed to even out the temperatures,
      The original downward facing deflector plate, also created a hotspot in the center of the smoker that you had to avoid. Again, another in efficient design.
      Even if you attempt to put holes in the downward facing deflector, you still have a hotspot on that side of the Cook chamber and your cooking from the bottom up, unlike the top and bottom cooking with most of the heat coming from the top which is what you want to create good bark.
      My design mimics what a huge offset smoker provides. Which is that awesome almost even top and bottom cook chamber temperatures.
      So yes, yes the holes are absolutely necessary,
      There’s a reason it’s in works for a utility patent.

    Why are there holes in the baffle? If there were no holes in the baffle, would the results be similar?

    • @TheSmokinRedneck
      @TheSmokinRedneck  5 месяцев назад +3

      There are holes to provide an even amount of heat in the cooking chamber for under and above the grill grate.
      If there were no holes, a deflector that just directs the heat straight up will cause an unevenness in temperatures in the cook chamber. Mainly higher near the stack oddly enough.
      So therefore after multiple tests and designs I landed on this one, it provides the closest to even temps for the entire cook chamber.
